King Henry Tapes #4

The Foul Mouth and the Headless Hunny

Rate this book
My name is King Henry Price.Yes, really. Still here. Still alive. Still running my Artificer shop. Got me a girlfriend now. Got a decent life for maybe the first time during my stay on this messed up little planet we call Earth. Better Earth than one of the other Realms, I suppose . . . but that was last time around, wasn't it?This time around . . . well, got me kidnapped again. Annie B is back! Pulling all her old moves. Kidnapping me, trying to seduce me more than ever, especially since I got said girlfriend now and Annie does so enjoy breaking up a happy couple. Never trust the pretty ones and NEVER trust a vampire.Ain't sparkly like all them romance novels you read. Ain't even got fangs actually. Just blood parasites living in a human shell. All that pretty ain't alive, just a suit for them to wear and what you know, the most rich and power of them slide in and out of those body suits just like we humans do our Sunday best.Yeah, disgusting, that's why you don't trust them. Vampires always get more disgusting. More you know, worse it gets. This time with Annie, thinking I'm gonna learn a lot. Someone stole bodies from their Great Bank. Stole from a Blood God. A Divine. Vampire been around longer than humanity's recorded history. This is the kind of stuff they don't tell you in magic school . . .If they did, none of us would ever go out at night.THE KING HENRY TAPESBook 1 - "The Foul Mouth and the Fanged Lady" (released)Book 2 - "The Foul Mouth and the Cat Killing Coyotes" (released)Book 3 - "The Foul Mouth and the Troubled Boomworm" (released)Book 4 - "The Foul Mouth and the Headless Hunny" (released)Book 5 - "The Foul Mouth and the Mancy Martial Artist" (released)Book 6 - "The Foul Mouth and the Pit of No Return" (released)Book 7 - "The Foul Mouth and the War to End All Wars (forthcoming)Book 8 - "The Foul Mouth and the Most Obvious Trap" (forthcoming)MancyVerse MomentsKing Henry and the Three Little Trips (released)Assault on Dread Fortress Paine (released)Glassbreaker Goes Home (released)The Everchanging Dilemma (releasing Feb 15th 2022)Vicky von Welf and the Mancy Masquerade (forthcoming)

Some days I think boredom will be the death of me.
Not my mouth. Not my fists. Not even Prince Henry wanting to put himself in some crazy chick's spicy muff taco. Just my beautiful mind.
Okay, ain't a whole lot beautiful about my mind.
My ugly, foul-mouthed, often perverted, one-of-a-kind mind.
Better?
Gonna get me killed one day. Boredom and curiosity gonna come together for some hate sex and there goes King Henry Price, his mortal coil snapping with the rest of him.

God.
I know we don't talk much.
I don't even know if you're actually a thing. I've met gods, but never the full on capitalization job that churchy types do for you. Mancy kind of takes out all the miracles in your little book too, so…ya know, no hard feelings, but I ain't that impressed. But on the off chance you do really exist, I got a deal for you.
If you get me out of this one then I promise I will never make another Japanese tentacle porn joke in my lifetime.
Promise.
Please?

So, I know I've said it before, I'm saying it now, and there's an 80% chance I'll say it again when I get around to reviewing the next book: I can't believe I forgot how good this series is and I'm kicking myself for waiting so long between the last book and reading this one. The only excuse I have is, so far, these books are so much longer than what I'm usually in the mood for. I open it up, see the "location length" (or however kindle measures page length without pages) and I push it aside, thinking I'll start it over a weekend, or something like that. And it's ALWAYS a mistake. This series is hilarious, there's so much going on, and I love every minute it of it.
For the Headless Hunny, like the other books, there's two story lines, switching back and forth through time. The first set of tapes we have a just graduated, alone for the summer and stuck at the Asylum, King Henry. Ceinwyn Dale decides to throw him a bone and takes him with her on a cross-country recruiting road trip. The second set of tapes picks up right where the last book left off. King Henry and Val back at the Asylum, then fast forwards four months to date night that's interrupted by good 'ol Anne Boleyn kidnapping King Henry…again.
I won't go into everything that happens along the way, it is A LOT, but by the end a few questions are answered, a ton more emerge, Annie B and King Henry part on amicable, if violent, terms, King Henry and Val are still together (I think), KH and Ceinwyn's relationship hits an all-time low, and a few more names are added to the "People Who Want to See King Henry Dead" list. Just read it, you won't be disappointed, seriously.

I suppose it wouldn't shock you to learn I've been pooling anima this whole time?
Nah, didn't think so.
Had up a five-minute-pool, or at least what was a five-minute-pool before my trip into the Geo Realm. Now it was a three-minute-thirty-second-pool. I tried not to think about what a day in that place did to me, much less what happened when Meteyos swallowed me whole and spat me back out. Wasn't just knowledge and artifacts that separated me from first timer King Henry.
Was a whole new world…
A dazzling place I never knew!
Sorry…that was the Disney Princess Band-Aid talking.

I'm not a knight in shining armor, but I just might be enough to save this piece of crap world one insane person at a time.
Climate Change? On your own, assholes. I hear Fresno is gonna be lakefront property, so I'm looking forward to it. Have to be an improvement for this shithole, right? Besides, fucking geomancer, ain't I? If I need some land to keep from getting wet I'll just make me an island or two.
Overpopulation? Learn to use a condom, it's really not that hard. If I can live with rubber on my dick, then so can you! Feels better? Ain't gonna feel better when you're married to some chick you just accidentally knocked up and her post-pregnancy lady hole is so stretched out you can fit a bowling ball through it.
Getting the X-Men and the Avengers into the same movie? Even the Mancy ain't powerful enough to make that happen.

~

"I feel like a phony," I whispered out the corner of my mouth.
"I remind you," Ceinwyn said to me, trying to encourage me for once, instead of playing with me like I was a choose-your-own-adventure book. "You are the only Artificer that the Institution will graduate for a considerable period of years. At worst, if you have no talent for it, you will become a Guild member in good standing, you will craft items of unique power for vast amounts of money. You will be a rich man and an important man, who any person in that building will seek to please and who any father in that building would quickly welcome into their family, including Hope and Heinrich's fathers.
Silence.
Then: "I think my dick just grew an inch."
Ceinwyn rolled her eyes at my predictability, giving me her elbow not like I was a date, but like I was a family member helping around an elderly aunt. An elderly aunt who had really nice legs. "This is why I don't encourage you."
I took her arm. "Maybe two inches."
"Also remember that only I know that you have a papercut on your left ass cheek."
"…And it just shrunk to normal."

If you needed someone to play a male sex god…he'd be up for the part. Especially since it was real life. Ain't no edge of the cover to hide the rest of him. And Meal? Naked from the waist down too.
Holy fuckballs.
Literally.
Cuz if those things ain't fuckballs, then no ball that's ever been has been a fuckball. And his cock? Not an area of anatomy I'm well studied in outside my own, but…if you wanted to measure it you'd need to throw out your ruler and find a tape measure, that's how big his cock was.
Not a stitch of clothing on him, Meal didn't care. He walked into our private room with a big grin on his face…and really, if you had a cock that big you'd grin all the time too. "Sex?" he asked.
"You come at me with that thing and I'm gonna cut it off and beat you with it," I told him. Mancy knows you could have clubbed a seal with the thing. Fuck, you could have clubbed a whale with the thing.
Meal seemed confused by so many words. He looked to Annie B next. He nodded on seeing her, like it explained something. Maybe he knew Vamps on sight. "Sex?" he asked her enthusiastically.
She still didn't bother to open her eyes, too tired to bother. "No, dear, just blood."

~

"I suppose I'll have to give you an appropriate nickname then."
"Whatever, I've heard them all. And don't think I'll let you pretend that it was werecoyote incompetence and not my brilliant strategic mind that created this situation," I rebutted.
Annie B snorted in contempt. "They aren't even the best of the Coyote Nation, they're third or fourth stringers. Cast offs, jokes. But take all the credit you feel you need to inflate your delicate esteem, Beef Cake."
"No, just no, Fanged Lady."
"So many nicknames for me, but none for you…what did they call you at school?"
"Foul Mouth."
She chuckled, "Fitting. I suppose I could call you Shit for Brains."
"Shit for Brains? Fifteen guys with guns completely surround us and we're lying here having a pithy conversation while they're holding their cocks in their hands. Me, all me, admit I'm a badass already."
Team King Henry: 4-6 (estimated)
Team Coyote Super Awesome Tough Guys, Trust Us: 0

"I do like your ass…" she admitted. "Maybe Sweet Buns?"
"Kill me now."
"How long will this darkness hold?"
"Another minute or two."
"Not even time for a quickie," she complained.
"Nope…which was not happening anyway."

~

Still empty.
Still too busy.
Wonder how many kids get missed because they're too busy to compare notes?
Given the warning I'd just been entrusted with I couldn't help but be sour on the whole thing. New school, old school. Didn't matter. The whole system was fucked. All to keep the world as it is, really. Secret powers in the dark where the humans can't see them. If we told people about us, came out to the public with THE TRUTH, then ain't a single kid would go without training.
Of course, there would be witch burnings…I mean, fundies have handled gay people fucking so well, I'm sure they'd be totally cool with another group of people throwing fireballs, strutting around with dead bodies as guards, walking on water.
Okay, so maybe it's not a good idea.

Ok. This one. This one is absolutely beautiful.
Lore drop? Lore avalanche.
There's so much info, lore, character growth and so much misery...
Ok. Vamos are horrible. But so are the Were. And the mancers.
Can't go too much, otherwise it'll be spoilers after spoilers .
Let's just say that A LOT of shit hit the fan. And a lot of questions are answered, and A LOT is not.
Oh yeah, and this time I remembered: it's not only the temper, life and lots more that I have in common with him
Even Dr Pepper...
Again, not a compliment

I'm going to assume you've read the first three book. If you haven't - you've missed out on a truly good series. Now go back and get book one. This review can wait until you're done.

This book starts with King Henry being... happy. Which is the first of many revelations... Of course, since King Henry is Fate's b!tch, this doesn't last too long. Because our favorite vampire has to show up and ruin things for him. Someone has been stealing from the vampires... again. And guess who's been tapped to solve their problems?

As usually, there is snark, wise cracks and lots of action. Cool new artifacts! King Henry learning new tricks! And lots more details about vampires. Yes - it CAN get grosser. And yes, they CAN get more repellent. We also get some were action. Also... A LOT of interesting dirt on Ceinwyn, Read this for the Ceinwyn info if nothing else.

Now I can't wait for book five! Hurry up and write faster Richard Raley!

So many questions answered 3 or 4 times as many generated!

I really liked it but let me get this part out of my system,

Ahhhh!!!!

F### ME!

There, that should cover for a bit. Annie B, you will hate her, like her, hate her, like her, so many times. Ceinwyn will be about the same here as well. Lots of relationship issues and through it all you will hate the Vampires more and more...

It is a rough ride for our favorite Foul Mouth and the end is intense, very intense.

Read this series, thats about all I can really say. It is very good.

Another GREAT book by this author.

So far, I have read pretty much 4 books in the series in a row.

While I understand that King Henry is called foul mouth for a reason, I do find myself skipping over the swear words and wishing there weren't so many of them or they weren't used so often. Yes, I've heard all the words before. I understand King Henry using them when he was a teenager and even a young adult. I understand him using them for shock value when he was young and/or adolescent. But now that KH is becoming an adult, I wish the author would tone down the foul language.

Annie B is back!!!! I think she's my favorite character of all. KH is the hero. Valentine is his love interest. BUT Annie B is his friend! In this book, Annie B shows up and lures KH outside where she kidnaps him in order to get him to help her. She has been charged by the Vampire Devines to find out who stole six vampire "shells". (Vampires are made differently in this series but you will have to read at least one book to find out how).

KH gets to whoop some butt. Annie B gets to flirt and surprise KH. Ceinwyn, T-Bone, Welf, and Pocket are back. The students are older now and getting ready to graduate. They are also pairing up in couples quite differently than I thought they would.

However, the author is not one for summarizing what has happened in the previous books. So, this is one series where you will have to start with book one and read them in order.

This series and the main character are both growing in leaps and bounds. Again the story contains 2 parts, one while King Henry is still in school and the other in current time.
During the summer after King Henry's 4th year at school his mentor takes him with her on a recruiting trip.
In the modern portion of the book King Henry is basically kidnapped to assist Annie B in another job for the vampires.
No disappointment in this book, plenty of blood, action and humor

The King Henry Tapes #4
I love the Foul Mouth and his stories. Nothing makes me laugh so hard.

"The Foul Mouth and the Headless Hunny" on my really OLDSCHOOL Kindle...

Aus Books & Reading

“The Headless Hunny” is book four in the King Henry series.

As in the first books of the series two King Henry stories are told in turns.
The first is about King Henry, still at the Institution – making an interesting recruiting road trip with Ceinwyn Dale and the acquaintance of a water fairy…
The second is about grown-up Henry, artificer shop owner and now the official boyfriend of the “Boomworm” Val, who gets kidnapped by Annie B. to help her with Vampire matters of the weirdest kind.
We learn a lot more about the crazy Vampires in King Henry’s world and Henry has to make some difficult decisions about whom to trust in his life from now on. Yes, King Henry is really growing up… but still swearing and funny as hell.

I loved this book! The storyline is getting more and more complex and rich – so there’s a lot potential for more stories in the King Henry World. Thank you, Richard – for writing another keeper! I’m really looking forward to King Henry’s next adventure.

I'll admit, I'm a big fan of the Foul Mouth books, and the previous one "Troubled Boomworm" was my favorite. Up to that point. Now this is easily my favorite, and I'm waiting for the day when this series finally gets the recognition it deserves and I can say "I was there at the beginning."

If you haven't read these books before, you really should start at the beginning because Richard Raley doesn't do much in the way of catch-up from what has previously taken place, and I appreciate that. Too many books you have to skim through several pages of what would be on television the "Previously, on so and so" bit. But you should also start at the beginning because you'd be missing out on a ton of character building and growth. Not just with King Henry himself, but characters like Annie B (my new favorite). What takes place between the two of them in this book won't have the same impact unless you've seen what happened before.

I don't want to spoil the plot, or what I surmise to be the overall story arc, but this book really gives you a better understanding of where the entire series is headed, and makes you eager for more. As a self-contained book, however, it is still awesome and as I said, the best yet. It is almost entirely King Henry and Annie B together, with a nice flashback story of King Henry and Ceinwyn Dale, and you don't want to miss what happens in either. I feel like a teenage girl gushing over Justin Bieber, but that's about the only way I can describe how I feel about this book. It really is that good.

As King Henry would say, "Buy the ******* book!"

I've liked every 'Foul Mouth' book so far and the author deserves credit for upping his game in each book.

This is the first book where my own sense of telling a story matched very well with the author's. I expected King Henry to be pulling out the stops in 'not going to take it anymore' and pretty much that's where this went.

The world that King Henry disrespects is big and scary. He wants to solve the scary and he's not afraid of the big. Well, maybe he is afraid of it, but King Henry is the Dirt King and resistance is his nature.

So he finds out the monsters are bigger and creepier than ever. He decides to do something about it.

Each of the tales so far has a template of sharing a "lookback on the school days" 'B plot' woven skillfully into the current timeline. This time the two stories reflect back and forth very well, and the stakes are as clear to the reader as they are to King Henry. We get to see a bigger picture, the darkness of the world as it is, and how small the efforts of the few on King Henry's side might turn out to be.

The author throws down with some extremely heavy foreshadow that things will get worse. Much, much worse.

The humor is great. The character portraits are immersive and solid. The ethics are central to the story, even though I don't think ANYONE talks about ethics much at all.

Highest rating.

Somehow I didn't review this the first time around. (EDIT: Apparently I did review it the first time like I thought, but I'm going to keep this second one anyway, because it just reiterates my point.) Yes, this is my second time reading the series, because it is that good.

This is probably my favorite of the series, although books 3-5 are all pretty comparable in quality. The main reason this is my favorite is because it brings back Annie B. I'm just going to admit my love for Annie B right here in public. She's my favorite character (besides King Henry obviously) and she's awesome. I worship at the altar of Annie B.

And this book is all about her. That's all you need to know to pick it up if you haven't already.

Another hysterical King Henry book by Richard Raley. It's not great literature and Raley could seriously use a proofreader. But his characters are vivid and his plots, while simple, make it hard to put the book down.
