An American by birth, Erica Sinclair has barely found her feet after a trying first year in England, but believes she is finally fitting in. She awakes one morning, happy to be in love and full of expectation for her first real writing assignment for the London magazine for which she works. Within hours, her world has crumbled, and she finds herself the unwanted guest at Cairnview, the country home of a one-hundred-year old woman in Stirling, Scotland. Friendless and far from home, Erica is painfully aware that the woman's grandson from Newcastle is there for the express purpose of getting her removed from the house, and that's before even meeting Lottie Hill, the redoubtable centenarian. Exhausted and ill and believing herself very much alone, Erica disconnects for a few days, not knowing that all is not completely lost. She has yet to learn that true friends can be found in new friends and that there is much perspective to be gained by hearing the life story of one, who has not only survived almost everyone she has ever loved, but also two of the darkest periods in the history of the world. Lottie Hill has a story to tell.
this story was very moving. I felt a part of each character. a beautiful love story throughout many generations also a lesson that love should be cherished no matter in what form
What a wonderful story of a courageous live lived. Very impressed with the clean language all thru the book! Awesome writing. Cannot wait to read book 2❤
Liked the characters for the most part. The initial animosity was not too extreme but was overcome by friendship not uncontrollable passion. I always want just a smidgen more though, like the legal threat Dean made…is that a real thing? I loved the idea of the kindness of strangers and what a difference that made. I think the John thing might have been a bit more pronounced and the ex girlfriend was an unneeded distraction. Loved Lottie, and my heart broke for the tragedy-even though it is fictional, it IS representative.
As I started to read this book I fell in love 💘with it the more I. Read I couldn't put it down
Personally I just got carried away with her story it was like going backwards into a another time and let your mind take control.it was purely a 👍great story
So enjoyed this book about t the value of trusting your self and learning from others experiences. I loved visiting Scotland and it was a treat to spend time in the lovely Scottish country again.
