Ambros Brothers Duet #2

Fixation of the Mind

Rate this book
I'll admit it. I freaked out for a second. It wasn't my finest moment.

As I pulled back the layers of Ambros triplets' life, secrets became revealed, dark obsessions exposed, and a new sinister world has forced me to take center stage.

The boys tried to shield me from it, but now they can't. It's been made very clear that if they want to keep me, unharmed, they need to acclimate me into their world, and fast. Foedus was no joke and not to be messed with.

At first, I stayed for survival, but the longer I spent with them the more they proved over and over how true their love and devotion was. How could a girl like me resist?

All I know is the more I sink deeper into this dangerous world, the more my mind becomes fixated on one thing…

They are mine.

This is a dark romance where the good guys and bad guys are blurred, nothing is quite as it seems, and its hard who to know who you can trust. This is a romance where the FMC doesn't have to choose between love interests. Make sure to check authors website for warnings.

I am thrilled with the way this played out!! Rin found allies, made peace with the way the Ambros triplets obsessed over and loved her, and came into her own power and strength.

This line sums it up perfectly:
"With me being their obsession, and them being my fixation, the four of us will never be alone again."

The way the boys obsessed over her was over the top in the best way without being smothering. They may have struggled to give her space, but they truly wanted her to be happy. The tether that formed between them became strained at times, but it never broke.

I would LOVE to see stories from the other families. Cin needs some good psychos in her life, too! ;) And Elio...please, PLEASE, give that delicious man some pages!

I lost interest in this while reading and was tired by the constant push away from the h.

The story was also dragged out in this and i tried finishing it, but it couldn’t hold my attention anymore.

Wow. What a way to wrap that up. This book answered so many questions I had after the first. I still love the chapters with the boys pov. This time around though, I really loved reading Layrin’s growth. She learns to lean into the her inner darkness when needed and not to be so scared of it. She finds out more about who she is internally and also about her past and where she comes from. The obsession between the triplets and her continues to grow as the story continues and it looks like the guys might not be the only ones with an obsessive habit…. Who knew. I still love Cins character more than ever. She is the bestie that everyone needs in their corner, but especially Rin after everything she’s gone through. Also the spice ramped up in this book, yes ma’am it did. Seriously a solid ending to this duet in my opinion.

This second book lost a bit of its hook for me. I really enjoyed book one. But book 2 fell a bit short for me personally.

Altho I did enjoy the spice where they finally all had their moment, I think that’s what kept me reading as the plotline just wasn’t really doing it for me.

If you like a why choose these are that and a very easy read.

Review for the duet

I kind of struggled through book one. I felt the story dragged but my main issue was that I was just reading a story. I didn't feel anything. No connection whatsoever with any of the characters. And when the plot unfolded as it did in book 2, I just didn't care enough for the characters to continue with a plot that was so.... I don't even know what word to use here. Unbelievable? Improbable? Unrealistic?
It's not a bad book, but it is too much when I don't like the writing style, the smut is meh, the characters are flat and the plot turns out to be too fantastical. I DNF'd at about 22% of book 2.

I'd say 2.5 stars.
But also, maybe it's just me.

The story got dragged out and It did not get more interesting the more I read. I started to skim through some parts because of how long it became. It got boring.
The uncle was disgusting and awful but it felt like they, especially the boys, should have dealt in another way. They were killers, badasses and someones that you shouldn’t have messed with yet they let the uncle do the way that he did??

The only character I really liked was Ravi, but that’s it🥰🤷‍♀️

I love a secret society and I really liked how this became more about Foedus in the second half of this duet after not seeing much of them in book one. Layrin being put through her paces to pass initiation was such a good plot and it felt like she had completely earned it. The romance was still there too and the forced proximity while the triplets train Layrin to ready her for Foedus just stoked that tension in the best way. Layrin has some great development along the way; not only just by learning to embrace her own darkness but also within her grief journey. She is a complex FMC and kept me engaged throughout.

The side characters though! I would read a spin off about every single one of them although my clear favourite is Elio. I 100% believe he would track Layrin down in the next life!

My interpretation of the star system;
3 stars - I enjoyed it; would read the author again
4 stars - I really liked it; I am invested and definitely want more from this author/series
5 stars - I loved it; I engaged with this book completely until I finished it and it is one I will re-read

I really enjoyed book one but book two lost its hook for me and I stared to lose interest in the story all together. I didn’t like the fact, that Rin was also a member/descendant of one of the Foedus families. I am all for cool plot twists, but this one seemed just really far fetched and made me annoyed.
I also was several times confused with the relationship between the MMCs and the FMCs. In book one the boys are described as this overly and extreme obsessed triplet group and their only goal in life is to be together with Rin. In book one, Roux had concerns about it being too early to introduce her to their lifestyle but they resolved it and moved on. But in book two the relationship between Rin and Roux and Rion was difficult and they seemed to not like each other at times and I was most of the time confused as to why. The relationship problems seemed to be forced and not natural, which made it difficult to stay interested. The only consistent one was Ravi and I enjoyed his personality a lot.

Normally I don’t mind, if the MCs are younger (in this case 21) if their characters seem mature. But throughout this book, I constantly felt like I was reading about boys and not men, which is not my cup of tea.
Also are the MCs still virgins? There is no mentioning of their prior experience with woman and/or sex, which would have been quite important to know.

Tell all of your friends that I'm crazy and drive you mad
That I'm such a stalker, a watcher, a psychopath
🎶

The Ambros triplets, who had tried to shield Layrin (h) from their dangerous reality, are now forced to integrate her into their perilous world to ensure her safety. The threat from the ruthless Foedus organization is real and immediate, and it becomes clear that her survival depends on her rapid adaptation.

─── ・ 。゚☆: THOUGHTS*.☽ .*:☆゚. ───

They had fed me, clothed me, taken care of me, and kept me safe and warm. Going over those days and nights, I was forced to admit that nothing had happened that I didn't want. I was a willing participant who was always given time to think, and the ability and space to say no, so what was I really upset about?

Okay, so there’s a lot going on in this story, but honestly, I loved every bit of it. The way the characters interact and match each other’s energy is just spot-on. Even though their dynamic skews heavily towards obsession, that’s actually what makes it work. Their all-encompassing fixation on each other is central to the story, and it creates this intense, compelling atmosphere. What I found really interesting is how their obsession is both their driving force and their bond. They’re completely devoted to her, and she returns that love, which adds a lot of depth to their relationships. They’re super protective, to the point of keeping secrets, which makes it hard for her to fully trust them at times. But, at the end of the day, they’re reliable and would do anything for her. The lengths these guys go to for her are mind-blowing. They even give up their family name and pretty much become trophy husbands to be with her. It’s like there’s nothing they wouldn’t do to keep her safe and happy. Their obsession and fascination with her, which started back in their childhood, makes their devotion feel so authentic. Given how everything unfolds, it feels like this was exactly the ending it needed.

[Ravi]

No fair!” Ravi whined behind them. “Next time, I get to carry Rin.”

“Wow, Ravi. You feng shui-ed the place.”

Ravi, of course, beamed up at her like she had told him he was fucking Picasso. It all made my head hurt.

Oh man, he’s such a precious cinnamon roll, even if he’s a bit deranged and unhinged. Seriously, he’s the kind of guy who would need a full-sized body pillow of her just to feel complete. But you know what? We all need someone like him in our lives—someone who’s completely obsessed in the most endearing way. He’s like a golden retriever puppy in human form. He adores her to the point where he’s practically worshiping the ground she walks on. He’s not thrilled about anyone else talking to her because he wants to be the sole focus of her attention—except, of course, when it comes to his brothers. His obsession is intense; he’s all about being close to her and constantly needing to feel her presence. He talks about her in this all-consuming way, making it clear that he can’t imagine life without her. In fact, he’d rather not be alive if she’s not in his life. It’s like he’s completely unhinged when it comes to his love for her, going to great lengths to ensure they’re together. He’s essentially a little leech, always finding ways to be near her. His devotion and obsession are so extreme that it’s both unsettling and oddly compelling.

[Rion]

“I kept tabs on you in high school, but it was more from afar, data collected from others. You didn’t post on social media, and that damn town had only two security cameras, one on the bank and one on the police station, so I had to make do. It wasn't until we were eighteen that we were even in a position to try to find you in person.”

He was sort of the face of the group whenever they needed to make public appearances or deal with enemies. Even though he was committed to defending her and ensuring her safety, he didn’t always have full control over the situation—like when he got sedated and had to step back. What’s interesting about Rion is that he crafted his entire persona around protecting her. That was his main focus, but he also had this playful, teasing side that added a lot of depth to their relationship. He loved to mess with her, which was honestly one of the best parts of their dynamic. It created this layer of tension between them. Their interactions had a lot of angst and friction. They were constantly trying to get under each other’s skin, which led to some intense clashes. This ongoing battle between them brought out a lot of sexual tension and frustration, making their connection both volatile and compelling. The push and pull between them added a lot of excitement and depth to their relationship, making it all the more engaging.

[Roux]

It was claimed by Roux next. “I promise on my soul to always save you when you need it.”

Roux’s constantly at war with himself because he hates how much control she has over him, yet he’s undeniably obsessed with her. There’s a chapter where he just goes on this whole rant about how much he despises her, but it’s clear that his hatred is tangled up with his deep, consuming love for her. His obsession with her is so all-encompassing that it completely distorts his ability to think rationally. She’s his entire world, his sole focus, and his whole personality seems to revolve around her. It’s like she’s the only thing he can think about and care about, which makes it even more frustrating for him when he can’t be with her all the time. He’s stuck pretending not to be one of the triplets, which means he has to hide his obsession and feelings. That has to be incredibly frustrating for him—wanting to be close to her and openly show his devotion but being forced to keep it under wraps. Roux is definitely the epitome of being "boy obsessed" in the most intense and consuming way. His entire world seems to revolve around her, and his fixation is all-encompassing. It’s not just a casual interest—it’s an all-consuming obsession that defines him. He’s constantly thinking about her, and his feelings for her dominate every aspect of his life. This obsession drives a lot of his actions and reactions throughout the story. He’s so deeply invested in her that it shapes his entire personality. The way he talks about her, the way he acts around her, and even the way he struggles with his own feelings all point to just how obsessed he is. It’s not just about wanting to be with her; it’s about being utterly consumed by his feelings for her, which makes his character both compelling and complex.

─── ・ 。゚☆: OVERALL*.☽ .*:☆゚. ───

The obsession and intensity are definitely a big part of what makes the story so gripping. The way the characters go to such extreme, deranged lengths to show their love is both wild and fascinating. It’s like they’re all wrapped up in this intense, almost chaotic devotion. What’s great is that she’s not just a passive character in this dynamic. She matches their intensity with her own fierce loyalty and possessiveness. Seeing her mirror their level of obsession adds a whole new layer to the story. It turns into this complex web of emotions where everyone’s deeply invested and fiercely protective in their own unhinged ways.

Honestly, the book was a bit disappointing. So many things were just so predictable.
The kidnapping was a bit disappointing since it was a cliffhanger in the first book.
That her parents were a part of Foedus was predictable and obvious.
That the uncle, Neil, killed Layrin's and the triplets' parents was also predictable.
Layrin's thoughts about her parents leaving her behind as a baby cause she was "lacking" something got annoying. Like, you were a baby. What could you possibly lack?
The mental test part to get into Foedus was also disappointing. I expected something much worse after what the triplets told about this test. (Imagine what plottwist it would've been when the test was still not over after the second time she woke up from the test).
The way the uncle died was also disappointing. I expected to see it after the pain he put the boys through.

Generally, she is described as smart, but I don't really see much of that. When Ravi trained her, she didn't understand what he was doing, which was obvious. Or when she went out to get breakfast the next morning after her test ALONE. They still didn't know who tried to run her over with the SUV. It was obvious that something bad would happen.
And again, when she got kidnapped by the uncle, and she had a meltdown cause she thought the guys would really leave her. Ravi even gave her the sign. Obviously, they just played a part.

I just couldn't really connect with the characters in this story. The book lacked something for me.
The boys were a bit too much for me. I understand they're obsessed, but that she can't even spend time with her friend, and that they start a shooting just because of Elio and Luca...
I actually hoped to see more of them along with Cinzia.

I just expected more of this duology. The spice was good, tho. I loved the scenes where they were all together.

Okay wow like i finished this 0.5 seconds ago.and I’m just currently basking in the after book glow because Kira seriously knocked it out the park with this one like rent was due.

Now while I really enjoyed book 1 one this book right here oh yeah it was everything. the pacing was immaculate but more importantly kiras writing in this was wonderful like I had the best time reading this because not only did you have the moments where you felt touched by the words and the meanings behind them but also the complexity of the characters and the story something I liked about how Kira did this is she really allowed the characters to grow and kind of shine if that makes sense like the character development is really my Roman Empire (I really love to see characters grow and learn as the story progresses and that was so evident in this)

This book really exceeded all my expectations I had.
there were moments where I was giggling, moments where I was close to tears and also moments where I was literally screaming (for various reasons this was definitely a rollercoaster that I would get on again)

Of course I can’t share much about what actually went down in this book for spoiler purposes but please believe me when I say I loved every part of this duet/book from the characters to the plot to the friendships to Kiras writing because this book definitely showed me why I feel in love with her writing in the first place

Like her mind>>>>

Im incredibly sad to say goodbye to these characters but excited for what could possibly be next

I felt like I was in another world when reading this duet. Fixation of the Mind is where we get all the answers we seek from the way the first book ended.

A lot goes on in Fixation, the deeper the story gets the more we find. Rin is pulled further and further into the Foedus life and their secrets, with all the families involved in this dangerous society.

The boys are very over protective over Rin and they have a good reason to be so. Their uncle is not someone you can trust or mess with and try and stay clear of him as much as you can. He will stop at nothing to get what he wants and it seems like Rin has something he's been trying to overtake for years.

Rin and her boys were to die for in this 2nd book and together they were all like fire together. They certainly couldn't live without her and she figured out that she couldn't be without them either. She may have thought that they were out to get her, but it turns out that they were always on her side.

Magnificent duet. Totally fell in love with this author when I read Obsession of the Mind and she certainly made one hell of an impact with this story!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐
Fixation of the Mind by Kira Stanley (Ambros Brothers Duet #2)

This one’s messy, raw, and absolutely magnetic. Rin has spent half the book wondering “What the hell am I even doing in this world?” and by the end she’s screaming “They are MINE.”

Spoiler zone!!!!
The triplets: Rion Ambros, Roux Ambros and Ravi Ambros stop playing the semi-protective big brothers and straight up drag Rin into their killer world. Their secret society? Foedus. The climax? Rin realises her family past is tangled with Foedus, the guys’ obsession turns into action, and she doesn’t just survive she fights with them. The line where she says she used to stay for survival but now she’s staying because “they prove over and over how true their love and devotion was.”

What hit me:
• Watching Rin shift from scared orphan to someone who leans into her own dark side and doesn’t apologise.
• The obsession: not romanticised vanilla stuff, but full-on “I’ll die for you and make you mine” energy.
• The world-building: the more secrets drop, the more twisted it gets…and I wanted the twists.
• The weaponised love: these men are dangerous, they’re flawed, they’re obsessed and Rin matches them.

Tropes to know:
• Reverse harem / why-choose (three men, one woman)
• Dark romance / obsession & possessiveness
• Secret society / elite dangerous groups
• Found family / orphan heroine
• Training/initiation into new life

P.S. I was hooked.

Decent book

This duet finale was pretty good. It tied up a lot of the issues they needed to face at the end. We also got to learn more about her family before they were killed. I’m really glad that she got to keep Cin as a friend. The female lead character had a dismal upbringing and her only friend was killed at the start of the book, so Cin was a breath of fresh air for her. We got to read all the male main characters point of views too. There were a few moments where the character thought something or said something cruel mainly Roux. I expected a bit more obsession from him, but he hated her for making him feel things for her. So he was cruel a lot of the times, but Layrin just let it go. It also didn’t make sense they would bow to their psycho uncle thinking they were doing the right thing by submitting to his crazy demands. It was just the thing Layrin needed to react, and it felt almost to easy. I dunno. I mean the storyline was good, there wasn’t to to much action besides the beginning and the climax but it was more going about their life while training Layrin to pass the initiation test. I also figured out that she was still in the test as well. Other than some of the weird character flaws that didn’t seem natural to what they all felt I found the story to keep my attention. It was better than the first for sure.

This is book 2 in the Ambros Brothers Duet. These books should be read in order as their sone continuous timeline. Please check the authors website for content warnings. There are dark themes in this series and I recommend doing your homework before diving in.

"The more I sink deeper, my mind becomes fixated. They are MINE." -Layrin, Fixation of the Mind

Fixation of the Mind picks up exactly where the cliffy in book one left off. The action continues and the secrets and hidden truths become a reality for Layrin and the triplets. I loved how devoted the triplets are. they want nothing but a happy life with Rin. The reality is not the same as normal people and they all need to dig deep in order to stay alive. This book had all the action and all the suspense I needed. I loved finding out the secrets and surprises that were hinted through the duet. Layrin had so much love for the triplets and she had so much to learn. Her character growth was amazing and I really loved her relationship with Cin. She needed that friend and Cin was there for her. I cannot recommend this duet enough and I need Cin's story so badly! Thank you Kira for writing a great world that I could get lost in.

The Foedus Duet wraps up with Fixation of the Mind. The story picks up right where the first book left off, with a whole lot of drama.

Oh, the guys really messed up but they were coming from a good place. At least my feral murder puppy (Ravi) was a little apologetic, the others, not so much. I expect that from Roux (Mr. Grumpy face) but that's what happens when you get possessive and obsessive guys have you in their site. Layrin wasn't so easy to forgive, the tension between her and the guys was delicious.

The evolution of Layrin in this book was a wonder to behold. She went from the girl who listened to the voices in her head saying she wasn't worthy and stuffing her feelings down to starting letting her darkness out to play. It was great, plus Layrin was becoming just as obsessive with the guys as they were with her, she really was the perfect fit for them.

Fixation of the Mind was all the dark goodness that I expected and more. I liked it even better than the first. My only complaint was that one of my favorite side characters didn't get the love that he deserved. Nevertheless, what a story.

I've figured out what I enjoy more than an unhinged, possessive anti hero, when the somewhat sweet and naïve heroine, grows so much that she also becomes and unhinged and possessive anti-heroine - that's a new thing. Layrin starts book 2 alone again, ripped from the triplets and yet again floundering in an unknown world, with new threats and challenges. The triplets don't change too much, but certainly let more of their inner workings out to the front - if Layrin was shocked at their obsessiveness when she discovered their obsessions over her, once it comes out to the front, she has a whole new side to discover of each of them! I loved this darker duet and i thought the world that was introduced was amazing. There are so many potential stories just waiting to be told. With a fantastic story and a satisfying ending, this was a great read!

Good Read

Fixation of the Mind is the concluding part of The Foedus: Ambros Brothers duet and concludes Layrin and the triplets story picking up in the aftermath of the first books cliffhanger.

This book sees secrets revealed and digs deeper into Layrins past with some shocking consequences. I think this book really saw Layrin coming into her own and taking control of her life away from other people. I loved the story and I loved how obsessed the triplets were with her and the lengths they’d go to to protect her. Ravi added some humour to the seriousness of the story and his antics made me laugh a few times while reading. I liked the story and felt that this book brought the story to a satisfying conclusion.

Overall, this was a really good read and a great conclusion to the duet and I’d recommend giving it a read.

This Dark Academia Romance is set in a private University setting with Secret Society aspects.
Layrin has been an orphan since she was an infant found in the woods. One night while watching out her window three dark princes show up and change her life. There is a lot that happens from. This point til the ending of the duet and man is it a lot to unpack. These three men will stop at nothing to possess ever part of her. even go against the Foedus.
Layrin "You guys don't love me. You just want to control me."
Rion "No. Love doesn't begin to touch the pure unadulterated obsession we have for you.""
This is the kind of possessive, obsessive men Rion, Roux and my fav Ravi are.
They say you never meet your soulmate when you are children.
Well what happens when you do but there are three of them and they are triplets?

After reading the first book, I knew I needed to finish it. I was invested from the beginning and needed to know what happened after that jaw dropping cliffhanger.
This book has dark secrets revealed and we get a deeper look into Layrins past. She really came into her own and started taking control of her life with the guys. And the obsession the triplets have with her and the lengths they’d go to to protect her had hearts in my eyes the whole time. Ravi is as playful as always and the banter between everyone made me laugh while reading. Then we learn about Foedus and more about the Ricci's which was a great palate cleanser from Rin and her guys.

This was a really good read and a great ending to the duet. Must read if you love an HEA!!

Is there anything that Kira Stanley can’t do!?! Fixation of the Mind was a thrilling conclusion to the Ambros Brothers Duet. There were so many twists and turns - suspense, intrigue, and so much more. I was brilliant seeing Layrin come even more into her own. Accepting her darkness and the darkness in the triplets. The darkness that drew them together. From beginning to end this book was a twisted, raw, thrilling ride. Seeing the dark seedy side of Foedus and Layrin coming into that world - with the brothers at her side - power baby, power. These four can do anything together. I love love love this book and this duet!

This is the second book in the duet and picks up right where the cliffie of book one ended.

This one focuses on Layrin training to become a member of Feodus, there is a lot of heat and spicy scenes in this, more than I need so I skipped several of them and just continued on with the story.

I think this duet could have been fleshed out a lot more into a full series as it has a wonderful wealth of side characters which were underused and let's face it we all fell in love with Elio. Yes we knew he was never going to get the girl cos those boys would never share but a part of me really wanted him to.

I'm sure one day we will get more from this world and these characters

Layrin's continued evolution wasn't surprising but I'm thankful her inner struggles weren't overwritten. There were nice comedic moments, usually involving Ravi, which helped lighten the overall mood of the story.

I expected more angst and heartbreak but was pleasantly surprised to not experience those feelings, especially during Layrin's test and the reactions from the council.

I feel like the ending was slightly rushed and almost too neatly wrapped up but it still worked. I am glad it was an HEA. I think I world have liked a little more from all the families as an intro to possible other stories but that's just me.

A Fantastic Duet!!!!!!

I absolutely loved this duet. It pulls you in and doesn’t let go. I love the psychotic men in the story that absolutely makes you want to have them in your life. We see Layrin going through some changes that may or may not be good depending on your point of view. The drama and intrigue throughout the story keeps you glued to your seat unable to put the story down. The story was extremely well written and developed. The flow of the story was beautifully executed. I loved how the duet ends and how everything turned out. One little thing I would have loved to read more about is what happened to Roberta and Lennon at the end. That would have been the cherry on top. This was absolutely a fantastic story that should definitely be read.

more of the same but a little worse

Look, you have got to start using a thesaurus, please for the love of anything. I don’t think I could take it if one more person said or implied that someone had giggled. I read it to see what the conclusion was but it was not worth it. These people are supposed to be in their early 20’s and it reads like they are play pretending as adults. It’s also a little boring and anticlimactic. Idk, this author has potential but this, this is not good. It’s also not that dark, the only thing you could claim as darkness is the manner of how people die, that’s it

Layrin and the triplets
This book was full of twists and turns, a few revelations, and action!
We also got lots of steam, humor and so many feels.
Layrin grows so much in this book. Her strength and confidence.
She learns to embrace her true self.
I will forever love Rion, Roux, and Ravi.
Not only because of their love and obsession. They helped give her the freedom and support to become a queen.

The author did a great job with the ending. She answered our questions and gave Layrin and her triplets a HEA!

It is the second of the duet, was s whole ordeal and explained so much the first kind of touched on. Obsessed with how things turned out, especially going through Layrin's history and being able to watch her change and grow into the woman I had hoped. The strength she mustered and darkness was super intense.

The triplets sounds DELICIOUS, though how smart they are is scary! I loved how each chagned and how they went with teaching her how things worked in the system.

Please check any and ALL trigger warnings! Spice was TOP NOTCH as always!

Holy Guacamoly. That sure was a really good book. Even though I've got to say that the guys (for my taste anyway) didn't grovel enough.
But I guess those type of men don't know the definition of "groveling" 😂
There are lots of really 🔥 scenes in this book, so you've been warned 😉.
Storyline is a little bit predictable, but that could be because I read a lot of books throughout the year.
If you like mafia-type romances, with lots of morally grey characters you will probably love this two books.
