I found this book useful for research purposes as an introduction to the forties; the eyewitness accounts were eye-opening and really made the book worth reading. However, it was much less detailed than I had expected and made me want to find out more about this extraordinary period.

Interesting, and the photographs were great. I really enjoyed the anecdotes from people living the the forties and learnt a lot.
