When elitist rich girl Libra Thorn wakes up in Absentia Asylum after partying all winter break, she has no clue how she got there.
Three, four, unlock your door.
Forced into confinement, the noises and shadows in her room are just the start of the horrors that wait for her in the dark.
Five, six, take your medicine.
No one knows who she is except her new stalkers—the three heathens who terrorize her every chance they get.
Seven, eight, there’s no escape.
Raithe, Mordecai, and Fabien are monsters—psychos who won’t stop until they get what they want—revenge on Libra Thorn. It’s her fault they’re in Absentia Asylum.
Nine, ten, you’re not dead yet.
Their games are sick and twisted and dark… But Libra is as obsessed as they are, craving their touch even when it hurts.
Eleven, twelve… better run like hell.

I received this book as an ARC and WOW from the first pages I was absolutely hooked (I unfortunately hadn't read the previous books to this one but I caught on pretty quickly) this book has so much that I love!
Haunted asylum... check Hot badass psychos... check Bad ass FMC.... check Spicey as heck... check Compelling story and vivid writing... absolutely check!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Absentia Mori so much I devoured it in a couple of days! It was so good despite me not knowing what happened previously, but I do plan on reading the others asap. I really liked the vivid detail of every scene and how you really felt what Libra was thinking and feeling throughout and how it made you really pull for her and the boys.
Libra Thorn (such a badass name, btw) is a damaged socialite who is the central focus of this book, and I adore her so much, I loved that she got her moment and I am glad she conquered her demons and rode them until the sun doesn't shine (see what I did there)
Enter Raithe, Mordecai, and Fabien... psychotic stalkers hell bent on revenge and their escape and boy I got an absolute thrill out of reading about these men... they are absolutely addicting and rough as guts, and I am OBSESSED.
I would highly recommend this book but would suggest that you read the trigger warnings as there are some heavy topics and scenes, and your mental health matters!
Asylum Dark Paranormal Why Choose ⚔️ Enemies To Lovers Forced Proximity Revenge Standalone Morally Pitch Black
Absentia Mori is a dark asylum standalone romance. It is related to the Devil’s of Raven’s Gate duet so you may want to read those first for extra context.
Libra Thorn is seen as a spoiled little rich girl but no one truly knows the hurt and darkness that lie inside her. She wears a mask to protect herself.
Fabien, Kai, and Raithe have only seen the face that Libra projects to the world. When Libra gets locked up at Absentia Asylum, a place they were sent as punishment, they want nothing more than to take their circumstances out on her in as vengeful a way possible.
The guys aren’t the only predators in the asylum. There are creepy workers, a cruel doctor, and a myriad of unhappy spirits.
Will Libra and the guys see who the real enemy is before they break each other or are they doomed to be victims?
This is a fast paced, fast burn, dark romance with a shopping list longer than Santa. The characters are fantastic and the gritty romance pays off big.
Hot hot hot! Dangerous boys in an asylum tormenting her for what they thought she did only to help her and themselves get revenge and break out for good. Dark, dirty, insane, chained up, tortured (but not really) hot sex!

Plot: 4.5/5 • Smut: 5/5 ————> This was so good. I’m glad I didn’t have to read the entire series to understand this as a standalone. I obviously didn’t know the background on some of the other characters, but it was still easy to follow. Libra wakes up in an asylum after a “night” of partying. The guards and doctors claiming they don’t know who she is. However, three guys already in the asylum know her very well and don’t have to pretend anything. Torture is the name of the game when it comes to the Raithe, Mordecai and Fabien. However, their games lead to other plans. Revenge is a dish best served cold, after all. The smut is very good. These scene with the straight jacket… *chefs kiss*. Well done. We do get some MM action too. As the guys share some love together as well.
“We’ve killed you, Libra. Your body lives but the old you is gone. The spoiled little rich girl is gone. You’re like us now. Dead to the world that never wanted us to begin with. You don’t belong to them anymore. You belong to us.”
I said it once and I’ll say it again, M Violet is my spooky season/dark romance QUEEN and I will read anything she writes. This series has such a chokehold on me! I cannot get enough!
I’ll be honest, when I learned that this was going to be Libra’s story I wasn’t sure how to feel about it because I was kinda indifferent about her when reading The Devils of Raven’s Gate. However, I am now OBSESSED with her. This was so freaking good y’all! She may have just become my fave FMC in this series. The more we learned about her, the more I felt for her and fell in love with her. Unhinged Libra is my absolute fave! I was screaming and cheering her on the whole time. Now..the men🥵🥵. Mordecai, Raithe and Fabien were the most feral and unhinged MMCs and I was here for every second of their depravity😂🥵. My jaw hit the floor multiple times when reading the stuff they were doing to Libra haha. The spice in this one hit different.
The world they all grew up in is so messed up. My heart was breaking learning each of their stories, but I’m so glad they found their way to each other. I don’t know what’s to come next, but I will be there front row and center to read it😂🖤
Omg I am obsessed with Libra! I loved her story so much, PLP will always be my favorite but this is a super close second! Libra is so strong and fierce and she never backed down in the face of all the f-up things that happened to her. Hearing about her past was heart wrenching, but she rose from the poison and emerged the monster she was always supposed to be! I loved how she gave those boys a run for their money, she dished it out just as hard as they gave it. They’re all obsessed psychos and I absolutely loved it! I’m so happy Libra got her own story, I missed her so much in DLS. All hail the queen of revenge and vengeance!!
Fav quotes: “She looks like the angel of death. Like a psycho goddess come to eat me for dessert.”
“F*ck. It feels like heaven and hell morphed into one. Like all the bad things they do to me are my holy sacraments.”
“They’re obsessed. We’re obsessed with each other. No matter how much pain and trauma that we carry, it’s what connects us. It makes us fiends for the torment.”
“I think that I did die in absence. But then I was reborn. I rose from the ashes of ravens and gin and fucking cyanide…Everyone else can fuck off and go to hell for all I care. I’m still Libra fucking Thorn, bitches.”
This was DELICIOUSLY dark and craaazyyyyy. I loved every mind-bending second of it. The previous books in this series leave us with questions regarding Libra’s whereabouts. This book picks up shortly after she goes MIA, AND her story is UNREAL. I don’t know how I stumbled upon M.V.’s writing, but she has easily become one of my top 5 dark romance authors. I’d even say she may be THE darkest and most twisted writer I’ve read to date. This story was like riding on the most talked about “scary ride”, with the longest list of warnings possible. I’m talking- sign a waiver and “ride at your own risk”, type of ride. I was sucked into this story from the first page, with my jaw dropped until the final page. I am so glad that Libra got her own voice in this series and was able to tell her harrowing story. Her bravery and tenacity during what she went through left me speechless. Where most people would have cowered and gotten lost in their minds. She did nothing short of PREVAILED. Her boys thought they could ruin her, but she took the reigns and owned it ALL. I love that she got her own book. Simply outstanding. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This book was deliciously dark and depraved. I loved every second of it. It went so much deeper than I could even hope for. The hate was raw and messy. Absentia Asylum was filled with monsters and ghosts, and it created more all the time. Libra had to fight with everything she had and got slapped in the face by reality quite a few times. The Poison Boys had no chill. They wanted revenge, and they would take every pound of flesh and then some. Pain and pleasure were one in this book, and they truly blended perfectly together. Libra got to unleash her darkness, and boy, was it really dark. The spice was epic! This is probably one of the more twisted books I've read, and it added to the spice level so much! It was so hot and messy and gory. No one was left untouched. Such a good book. I loved it!
I devoured this book! This universe is amazing! Reading Libras story I absolutely loved! I loved her the first time we met her and hearing her story you can’t help but love her more and understand her. Read the triggers and if they don’t bother you, DIVE in! I can’t wait for what’s next! Definitely a top book for me this year!
I absolutely devoured this today. The world of Melancholia that M. Violet has created is so captivating. This installment is no exception. These characters have suffered some horrific things including their time at the asylum. The vengeance Libra dishes out is incredible! I love how protective Fabien, Raithe and Mordecai are of Libra because of course only they can torment and torture her. The chemistry between the 4 is top notch. The ending was perfect!
Was this a literary masterpiece ? No, not at all. But was it entertaining and fun as hell ? Yes, yes it was.
The plot of these all these connected series : The devils of ravens gate, Wickford Hollow, & now this one aren’t my favorite. The whole poison, ravens, ghost vibes sometimes bore me but the smut is always top notch.
I loved the asylum & bully vibes as well. I think it was the perfect length and wasn’t overdone. I also liked getting glimpses of Maureen and her guys in this as well.
I CANNOT WAIT FOR DRAVEN, ARIES , & BONES BOOK!

“She looks like the angel of death. Like a psycho goddess come to eat me for dessert.”
M Violet, you have sealed my fate as a fan of your work. Absentia Mori follows after Wickford Hollow and Devils of Raven’s Gate and is freaking awesome. While each of these can be read on their own, if you want the full experience, read them in order and fall in love with the captivating world of Melancholia. Absentia Mori is a twisted dark asylum romance. We meet our FMC Libra in the previous books. She definitely worked my last nerve at for a while with her uptight pretentious attitude as a spoiled, rich, entitled princess. But how my attitude adjusted seeing how she evolves working through her traumatic past and present disturbing circumstances to become one bad a➿ savage. Upon meeting Raithe, Mordecai and Fabien, anxiety spikes from the impending danger looming with nothing but dark depraved visions of revenge on their mind. They only know Libra as she presented herself at Tenebrose Academy. They are thrilled to see her trapped in their nightmare with other predators after her with plans that are nothing but diabolical.
“We’ve killed you, Libra. Your body lives, but the old you is gone. This spoiled little rich girl is gone. You’re like us now. Dead to the world that never wanted us to begin with. You don’t belong to them anymore. You belong to us.”
Mind bending in the best of ways this dark gritty story unravels at a fast pace and is quick from little sparks to inferno when it comes to the spicy business. The heat and lust is raw, hot and messy and evolves in the most delectable of ways. Broken and discarded Raithe, Mordecai and Fabien deepen their bond and absorb Libra into their circle strengthening their devotion to each other and becoming a true force. An absolute turbulent roller coaster of emotions I could not get enough.
“They’re obsessed. We’re obsessed with each other. No matter how much pain and trauma we carry, it’s what connects us. It makes us fiend for the torment.“
Full circle closure, M Violet gives us a most satisfying ending. As with the other books in this world, the trigger warning list is long. Please make sure to check them to ensure this book is right for you. For me this world created by M Violet is top shelf. Plot unhinged and twisted and characters that are 100% soul consuming this is one I will definitely recommend to any dark romance reader.
“I rose from the ashes of ravens and gin and f❥cking cyanide… Everyone else can fuck off and go to hell for all I care. I’m still Libra f❥cking Thorn, bitches.”
I don't really know if i can put into words how much i loved this book and do it justice. I have been a fan of M Violet's book from the beginning and these books keep getting better and better. The characters that she writes are.. well i wouldn't call them normal but they way i feel is that they give me something that makes me feel seen. Most of the times it's very sutble and sometimes you dont even know it untill the end. But it's definitly there. I have had this feeling since i read her first book. I love her fmc's so much. They are like the odd ones out, the loners, the broken ones, the ones that miss something in there lives until they find their own strength with a little bit of help by their guys. And don't even get me started on these guys ugh, they all bring something different to the table, they are always different but so delicous!
Libra being stuck in this place, made my heart bleed so much. I got goosebumps so many times and sometimes not for the right reasons. The fact that they wanted to break her, everybody being against her and she still did not give up, is the biggest most incredible thing i've read. With all that she has been through not just now but in the past. She is still here, she only had to find herself again and that is what Fabien, Mordecai and Raith did, they reminded her of who she is, how strong she is, how she is a force to be reckoned with. The guys go from hating her, wanting, her, crushing on her to, wanting revenge, to degrading her, to.... Everything you can think of. And i was here for it, for all of it. Let me give you some keywords to look out for, because these scenes were out of this world.
- straightjacket - lollipop - courtyard - Aries apartment -Libra's escape ( best scene in the whole book, i love her like that, crazy and unhinged ) - and so many more....
The way this story unfolds, that is something i really love with her books, it isn't always how it looks, on first sight you get some part of the story and you think it makes sense until she turns it around and gives you goosebumps and makes your head spin in all the right ways.
Look i'm still looking for my limit, I didn't find it in this book. It felt very depraved and insane and so good. Like literally mouth foamingly good! Everything is just 5 stars ( because i can't give more, otherwise i would) , the plot, the characters, the spice, the turns and twists, the world building, it's all just PERFECT!

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS BOOK. And yet I love all your books. They are feed my poison addiction, I get a taste and I can’t seem to stop. I drink it up in 1 day and want more. They are dark and twisted and yes SOOO SOOO GOOD for my black heart and soul🖤
“……absentia mori.”……”What does that mean, though” “It means to die in absence. No one comes to pay their respects. There are no flowers or eulogy. No ravens to guide you to the After. They just cease to exist. And then their souls are trapped there forever.”

LIBRA THORN— She’s a rich entitled princess. She drinks and parties non stop with no remorse. They think she’s just like the rest who are entitled and yet they aren’t sure. They don’t know her story nor what she truely has been through. They only see what she lets people see. She walked up in an Asylum and no one wants to admit to who she is and says she’s delusional and calls her Jane Doe, but they know who she is and they have a plan for her.
(Monsters aren’t born, they’re made.)
RIATHE, FABIAN, MORDECAI—- they have each others back no matter what. They do everything together. They are excited to see who ended up in the asylum with them. They want to take out all their pain, anger, and vengeance on her but little did they know she isn’t so easy to break. What happens when they keep her alive and learn her secrets. Is she truely an entitled princess or a “Freak” just like them.
“In Absentia Mori,” Mordecai rasps. “To die in absence… We’ve killed you, Libra. Your body lives but the old you is gone. The spoiled little rich girl is gone. You’re like us now. Dead to the world that never wanted us to begin with. You don’t belong to them anymore. You belong to us.”
Fabien grabs her and tilts her back. “Fuck, you’re one crazy b!tc+. I think I’m in love.” “We are your fucking medicine. Your poison. We’re all you have now.”
“Looks like someone wants to play with monsters.” Raithe
I loved the plot twist that happened in this book and how you never see them coming. It sucks you in and you can’t help but to get lost in the asylum with them and watch them play with their new pet/ little freak/ wh0r3.
This was so unhinged but so good in all the best ways!!!! 🖤🖤🖤
We met Libra is Maureen's books and to be honest, she wasn't my favourite but she definitely redeemed herself in this, after all, this is her story. When I first met Libra, she seemed like a bit of a b**** but then I really got to know her and I understand now that she wore a mask. She is intelligent, brave, beautiful and completely unhinged. I love her!!!
Our mmc's are Raithe, Mordecai and Fabien. They don't have the best backstory either, it's filled with so much darkness but through it all, they've always had each other. It seems to me as though Fabien is a little on the softer side especially when it comes to Libra (I hope that makes more sense to you when you read it, it's the vibes I got). But they are quite dark and kind of damaged from what's happened to them and where they ended up.
The plot was amazing, unhinged yes, but so amazing. We see so much character growth in Libra as well as her men. When Libra ends up in an asylum with no hope of escape, she never expected men from her past to show up. They go from absolutely despising each other to blurring those lines and falling into something like love, it was a very intense journey. There are so many twists, turns, heartbreak and everything and anything in between in Libra's story. I loved how powerful Libra becomes or should i say how she comes into her own 😏😏😏. I don't want to go into too much detail because I feel like I may spoil it for you and I think you should experience this story for yourself.
I always love the way M writes her stories, they are so dark but always so deep, raw and gritty.
Please read your triggers warnings before diving into this beauty as she is quite dark and your mental health matters 💚
Please read this story, its so worth it and I loved every second of it.
Thank you so much to M and your amazing team for giving me the chance to be apart of your incredible ARC team, it's such a privilege ♥️

How would you feel if you woke up and didn't know where you were, strapped to a bed with no memory of how you got there 👀 Libra certainly knows that feeling..
I highly recommend reading the books before this one to get a better understanding of this story!
Libra thorn looks like your typical spoiled rich kid but on the inside her monsters scream at her to be let out, drowning in her misery and guilt, Libra finds herself in the one place she never thought she'd be sent to. Absentia asylum isn't your typical mental health facility.. it's a place where once you enter you never return, your soul forgotten, your body left to rot and if your really unlucky the ghosts tournament you more than the living ever did 👀
Libra quickly learns that her stay isn't going to be a good one and after she's cornered by Fabien, raithe & Mordecai things go from bad to worse but in the best possible way. The three psychos have plans for lil Libra whether she wants them or not but Libra isn't easily broken infact they will find out just how unhinged Libra really is 🔪
Fabien, raithe & Mordecai promised themselves they would get revenge on the people who stole everything from them, they were out for revenge and would stop at nothing until they got it but when Libra falls into their laps they decide that she's the next best thing to getting their revenge. They think she's just like the rest of them, using her wealth and looks to get everything she wants but when they realise the truth about the real Libra they realise they've made a mistake but will Libra forgive them or want her own revenge 😏👀👀
This book has twists that keep you wanting more! There is so much more to be uncovered and I can't wait to see what happens next 🫢 the suspension and the spice in this book are top tier and @authormviolet knows how to keep your pulse racing with her delicious deprived books 🥵
M. Violet has a way of writing stories that keeps me hooked - I couldn't put this book down and finished it in one day.
After a night of partying, Libra (FMC) wakes up in Absentia Asylum where she is being held captive with no clue how she got there. Mordecai, Raithe & Fabien (MMCs), who are also being kept in the asylum, claim her as theirs.
The guys may not let anyone else touch her but that doesn't mean they are nice to her. They are out for revenge and she ends up caught in their chaotic web, subjecting her to their twisted mind games. She tries to explain to them that none of the past horrors were her fault but they don't believe her, thinking that she's just a spoiled socialite like her family. They thought she was the one who hurt them.
The MMCs fit perfectly together, they were all dark and depraved yet loyal to each other. The spicy scenes were extra steamy thanks to the guys and their creative minds (The Lolliop Scene 🍭🔥😈)!
My heart goes out to all of the characters as they all endured horrific trauma in the past and it changed their lives forever. The guys are unhinged, demanding, dominant and out for blood. Libra is strong, a survivor & just wants to be loved.
Side Note: I loved the ghosts - M. Violet is amazing at writing them into a story!

“F*ck. It feels like heaven and hell morphed into one. Like all the bad things they do to me are my holy sacraments.”
I swear M Voilet is the Queen, no Master of dark horror romance. I have been with her from book one and every book only gets better. I absolutely devoured this today. This was so deliciously dark, Psychotic, and crazy that I loved every mind-blowing second of it. The previous book The Devils of Raven’s Gate series leaves us with questions regarding Libra’s whereabouts. This book picks up shortly after she goes MIA, and what a story for her, it is UNREAL/CRAZY, and so sexy hot. This is super depraved and spicy you will not think of a strait jacket the same way again or even in a courtyard the same way. Libra really lets loose with her vengeance after the courtyard and finally finds herself, which matches with the guy’s energy, it’s a perfect match forged in the blood, sweat, and tears.
“She looks like the angel of death. Like a psycho goddess come to eat me for dessert.”
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I was so captivated how Libra so quickly fostered relationships with the asylum ghosts. How the Ghosts were all women who had been traumatized and abused, much like Libra had. While in Violet’s other books, (which you don’t have to have read to understand what is happening in this one, but they’re good, so you should), and elsewhere in this book, there were male ghosts. Yet in the asylum it seems as if all the ghosts were women. When they explained why the ghosts didn’t move, that was a really incredible bit of the story, and made me wonder if it’s important for their future?
Fabian was the only one who was able to talk to the ghosts beside Lib but his communication was limited. Even though everyone knew they were there and could see them and hear their screams when the ghosts wanted. Fabian knew they were trapped in the asylum, and he knew their lives and deaths had probably been terrifying. Yet he never made the leap to why they all liked Libra so much. It stared the three mmc’s in the face the whole time. I wanted to smack them sometimes, a lot of times, I kept wanting them to just shut up with all the ‘you have to suffer because of what all these people did to us’ speeches. And just ASK themselves, WHY would Libra take it? I loved how strong and fierce she was as character and a woman, she didn’t quit fighting, even when she accepted their punishments.
I don’t want to give anything away, just suffice to say, while this book is incredibly dark, tormented and deviant, the story gutted me. What the four of them had to go through, how they were connected. I started it and didn’t put it down until the last page. I even feel like I need to go back and reread because I feel like I missed some substance that mattered. I really, really wish this was a duet like the others so I could have more, that is how good it is.
When elitist rich girl Libra Thorn wakes up in the eerie Absentia Asylum after a wild winter break, she has no clue how she got there. From the very first page, Absentia Mori drags you into the twisted world of darkness, obsession, and revenge.
Libra’s confinement is terrifying enough, but the real danger comes from the shadows that stalk her—Raithe, Mordecai, and Fabien. These three “heathens” have their own bone-chilling vendetta against her, and they won’t stop until they’ve gotten what they want. The catch? Libra is just as hooked on them as they are on her, craving the twisted games they play, no matter how dangerous.
Seven, eight, there’s no escape…
This book is a rollercoaster of suspense, psychological thrills, and oh-so-sinful spice that will leave you breathless. M. Violet masterfully builds a world that’s as dark as it is captivating, filled with unexpected twists that kept me on edge the entire time. And let’s not even get started on the steamy scenes—🔥🔥🔥—they are pure *chef’s kiss*!
I’m seriously in awe of how M. Violet brings her characters to life, especially the anti-heroes. Her ability to humanize the darkness makes you feel empathy even for the most deranged of characters. It’s a journey into obsession, revenge, and something much deeper.
This is hands down a 5-star read (and I’d give it more stars if I could). Everything—from the plot, to the characters, to the insane twists—is just perfection. If you love dark, twisted stories with complex characters and unrelenting tension, Absentia Mori is for you. I can’t wait to see what happens next in this deranged world!
Okay babes - we need to talk about this one. Holy jalapeños! 🌶️
This was a spicy one for sure, but the manner in which certain uh acts were preformed.... I was ☠️😮💨🫠
Honestly I related a lot to the fmc and how we felt about herself. It was amazing seeing her go absolutely feral and take her power back. Loved seeing her come into her own. And those men....sometimes I wanted to hit them, sometimes I was a little puddle.
When elitist rich girl Libra Thorn wakes up in Absentia Asylum after partying all winter break, she has no clue how she got there.
→ Three, four, unlock your door.
Forced into confinement, the noises and shadows in her room are just the start of the horrors that wait for her in the dark.
-> Five, six, take your medicine.
No one knows who she is except her new stalkers-the three heathens who terrorize her every chance they get.
→ Seven, eight, there's no escape.
Raithe, Mordecai, and Fabien are monsters-psychos who won't stop until they get what they want-revenge on Libra Thorn. It's her fault they're in Absentia Asylum.
—> Nine, ten, you're not dead yet.
Their games are sick and twisted and dark... But Libra is as obsessed as they are, craving their touch even when it hurts.
→Eleven, twelve... better run like hell.

“Absentia Mori” by M. Violet 4⭐️ 4🌶️
Love a good unhinged and creepy 💀story about redemption and self~healing.
MFC Libra Thorn is a privileged party girl who wakes up and finds herself in “Absentia Asylum “ with a bunch of unhinged patients, orderlies, her doctor and some trapped and tormented ghosts/spirits. I think my favorite characters in this book were the “The Terror Twins “ who are spirits who can’t rest because of what happened to them at the asylum. And they take bribes in the form of “sweets” 🍬or 🍭lollipops. They really did add a layer of creepiness to the story!😳😬
MMC’s Mordecai, Raithe, and Fabien are also trapped in the asylum and are out for revenge on Libra. They start tormenting her and try to break her, but Libra Thorn is one tough cookie! She plays along with their unhinged games, and find herself enjoying the torture.
M. Violet does write some unhinged smut scenes 🌶️ and let me tell you I will never look at a lollipop 🍭 the same way again lol 😂😳 phew 😮💨
There are so many more elements and revelations to this story, and you definitely have to read the previous books to understand them. But in the end Libra does get her revenge , three new boyfriends and a HEA. 🖤💀💀💀🖤
Overall I loved this twist and spicy story that’s perfect for spooky season! 🖤

☁︎Once again M. Violet has created an amazing, deranged, unhinged why choose romance. It is very dark and has a lot to unpack but dang she does it so well. I love her writing style, it is so engrossing and captivating. I couldn't put this book down. I kept having to read it even when I probably should have been doing chores or work. It was just that good! I am utterly obsessed with all of the characters! I cannot wait to see what comes next!

This is Libra’s story. This girl goes through hell and comes out the other side reborn, with her devoted unhinged men by her side.
Waking up a prisoner in an asylum, being gaslit into not believing who she is? Well, this is Libra Thorn bi!ches, and while she may bend, she does not break. I loved her strength and tenacity throughout this book. Especially when you find out more about what she has been through, her self discovery, self awareness and her commitment to being better is admirable. Well, being better to those she loves anyway, haha! Cause yeah, she’s a little p$ych0 fr3ak and she wears it well.
This is a true hate to love, enemies to lovers story when Fabien, Raithe, and Mordecai come into the picture. They harbor serious resentment toward Libra and they are determined to make her pay. They are demanding and brut@l. And Libra is not only here for it, she gets hers. My favorite part of the book is when the tables are turned. It’s a turning point for them all, their relationship is solidified, and the true mayhem begins.
This is a great reverse harem dark romance for those who love enemies to lovers, forced proximity, love to hate, found family, revenge, and just general unhinged craziness that at the same time makes total sense. Heed content warnings and enjoy the ride!
Absentia Mori by M. Violet is hands-down one of the most unhinged, haunting, and violently seductive books I’ve read in the dark romance space. It drags you into the twisted halls of Absentia Asylum and does not let go.
Libra Thorn is the spoiled socialite who wakes up with no memory in a nightmare asylum, and the three men who claim to hate her—Raithe, Mordecai, and Fabien—are here to torment, punish, and ultimately possess her. Their vendetta is personal, brutal, and unrelenting... and Libra? She doesn’t break. She evolves.
This book is chaos incarnate in the best possible way. M. Violet masterfully blends forced proximity, revenge, obsession, and kink into a gothic horror-romance stew that’s as grotesque as it is gorgeous. The paranormal touches elevate it to something mythic—more ritual than romance.
The spice level is insane, but it’s the emotional devastation, trauma bonds, and psychological warfare that really make this book unforgettable. If you love stories with morally black characters, asylum settings, pitch-dark themes, and complicated, carnal love? This is it.
⚠️ Content Warning: This book is not for the faint of heart. Please read the author's warnings.
Favorite Quotes:
“We’ve killed you, Libra... You belong to us.” “F*ck. It feels like heaven and hell morphed into one.” “I rose from the ashes of ravens and gin and fucking cyanide.”
For fans of Haunting Adeline, Den of Vipers, or Wickford Hollow, this is your next descent into hell.
Absentia Mori is my first installment in the world of Melancholia and my first novel by M. Violet. Oh, what a delicious descent into madness this trip was! I will have to go back and read the Devils of Raven’s Gate one and two to fill in the backstory and the characters mentioned in this book.
From what I can tell, Libra was a vapid, entitled rich girl who played a minor role in the other books, but here it is: her time to shine and shine, she did! I loved her evolution into this pitch-black, unhinged queen! Waking up trapped in a haunted asylum will do that to you.
Oh yes, the men of Absentia Mori have me drooling over here: Mordecai, Riate, and Fabian. I love how tight-knit these three are and how they do everything, and I mean everything together. When they see that Libra is also in the asylum, they want to enact sweet, sweet vengeance on her.
The plot was pretty awesome, but I felt a little out of the loop because I missed the other books. I am sure it will all come together when I get caught up. I am over the moon that these side characters had their time to shine. I, for one, will never look at lollipops the same ever again.
Thank you to M. Violet for gifting me an eARC of Absentia Mori. I am leaving this review voluntarily. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Holy shit! This book was crazy. What would you do if you woke up in a room where the door is locked and you have no idea how you got there? And everyone calls you Jane Doe bc they don't belive you're who you say you are?
This story takes place in an insane asylum. Where you are trapped with three unhinged guys who are out for revenge and you are the target. Fabien, Mordecai & Raithe are out to break Libra. They crazy, humiliating, painful things they put her through is wild. But she blows their minds and takes everything like a champ. They can't break her, and are starting to see she's not just the spoiled princess the world sees. The more time they spend trying to break her down they start to meet the real girl she is. She's just as crazy, unhinged and as murderous as they are.
This book has so many twists and turns that I didn't see coming. A slight mystery aspect in it. And the spice is top notch!!! If you are into books with why choose, enemies to lovers, touch her and die, strong FMC, blood play/knife play, Obsessive/possessive MMCs. And lots more.
Def check your triggers before reading!! This is a standalone but part of the Melancholia world. So reading the previous books first helps the book make more sense.
Libra Thorn was definitely a character in the Ravens Gate duet and her sudden disappearance was definitely noticed but not worried about too greatly, everyone being used to her antics and hard partying lifestyle. Absentia Mori shows what really happened whilst she was absent from all the drama of Nocturnus in Dirty Little Saint. I loved the fact that we get shown how she isn’t the vain, obvious spoilt rich girl that she is first portrayed as, that her past and traumatic experiences have actually made her a force to be reckoned with. You definitely need to be well versed in M Violets Melancholia world to understand this book, there has been so much happening throughout the series already that lots of plot points are coming together nicely in Absentia Mori and we get glimpses of characters past and future in this book too. As usual in an M Violet book there’s a lot of spice, but there’s a sense of carnality, trauma bonding and healing that goes hand in hand with it that sets itself apart from the previous books.
Where is Libra?? That was the question at the end of Dirty Little Saint. This book will give you all the trïggęr warnings you could imagine so make sure you proceed with caution.
Libra has always been seen as the rich and spoil brat. But all her luxuries, all the parties and all the faceless men have all been a coping outlet for her that no one knows, not even her twin brother.
After waking up all alone in the Absentia Asylum with zero recollection of how she ended up there in the first place, she will come face to face with Mordecai, Raithe and Fabien. They are part of the consequences of said past. They are out for blood and they will stop at nothing to break Libra Thorn!
