The monsters. The chaos. The hurt. The banter. The shock value. All of it was PERFECT.

“You’re going to hate Aris, probably love Lai, and adore Klein.” - I feel this SO HARD.

The Sirin Sisterhood is the second instalment in the series, following on directly from where The Sons of Echidna left off. The transition between books one and two is seamless, not leaving us with a time gap which I love. I only had to wait a month between reading TSoE and TSS but I missed the characters so much and I was starting to loose my mind thinking about what was going to happen.

And now I’m here, reeling after finishing this book thinking “WTF?!” Over and over. SERIOUSLY WHAT THE ACTUAL F, HOW AM I GOING TO SURVIVE THE WAIT FOR BOOK 3?!?!

“You want me to negotiate with an apple?”

In this book we see our beloved characters grow, learn a thing or two about being humble, and experience some awful traumatic things. We see some of the sweetest moments between lovers, friendships solidified, trust broken and regained, and some spicy scenes I didn’t see coming but I was absolutely here for! 🥵

Don’t get me wrong- this book is still filled with literal chaos on every page, hilarious banter, an epic adventure and insanity like no other.
But it dives so much deeper than the first, giving us an inside look of the characters that shows more than a few probably have a sprinkling of well earned PTSD, ADHD, ED’s, and God Complexes (who doesn’t, right? 👀)

“Bending over for the business end of a dragon is no simple task.”

I highlighted 47 sections… most of which are either strangely motivational speeches, moments where I was genuinely laughing out loud, or the aforementioned WTAF moments.

As stated in my review of TSoE, all of these characters need extensive therapy and I’m beginning to think…. Maybe i do too because I ate this up and left no crumbs.

It’s completely unhinged in the best way.

Aside from the amazing content of the book; I want to show some praise for Athena and her husband Marly both. They have worked so hard, and have been so thoughtful in the creation of The Sirin Sisterhood. The artwork is beautiful, it fits perfectly in context with the pages they’re on, and is so well done. I don’t know if I will ever stop raving about there being actual art inside your books, right from your very own head and hands. We’re extremely lucky as readers to have you, and I can’t wait to see what you chaos goblins give us next.

In Short:

This book was nothing short of fantastic. The second installment of this series has easily shown how it's improved and developed from book 1. Athena really knocked it out of the park with this one.

In slightly more length:

Oh my, where do I even begin. If I could give this book 6 stars I would.
Everything from the writing, to the plot and the characters have shown some serious improvement. It really proved that The Sons of Echidna was a warm up act, so that we could all be chucked in the deep end without a paddle for the release of The Sirin Sisterhood. I am on the edge of my seat waiting for the next installment in the series.

The Sirin Sisterhood jumps right back in to where we left off at the end of book one, with everyone scared for their lives over Lai's driving ability. Our beloved, chaotic characters have been thrown out of the comfort of their confine and have to brave the big and scary outside world.
However will they get their home back, you may ask. In true chaotic fashion the head of the family is voted out and replaced by the Goddess of bad decisions (was this really the right move Lai? I'm yet to see evidence of this), and have ventured off to find help in the most unlikely of places... Russia.

Athena does a brilliant job of incorporating not just Greek Mythology but also Slavic Folklore into her storytelling. Allowing us as readers to not only enjoy a fun fantasy book, but also learn along the way. Most importantly learning about different cultures that we might not have thrown a second glace to otherwise. It's truly fantastic.

In this book you get to learn a bit more about the eccentric characters we know and love, but are also introduced to many more along the way. All of which are very quickly indoctrinated into the chaos family (some in more ways than others...).
The illustrations, once again were a massive highlight in this novel, and will continue to be one of my favorite parts about the books Athena publishes.
I laughed, I cried, I gasped. I even ran straight to Athena screaming over the CRIMINAL ending. I seriously thought I was missing chapters, that's how big that cliffhanger is.
I'll just sit here hugging my knees until the next one comes out.

If you thought The Sons of Echidna was good well then The Sirin Sisterhood is even better!
The same amount of chaos and tension and angst but with MORE magic, MORE monsters and MORE questions that need answered.
Athena's writing style is so unique, the way she incorporates mythology and fantasy in a way that is so different and fast paced. It leaves you wanting to keep turning pages to find out what happens next. I am absolutely blown away by book 2, what in incredible wild ride!

And we're back for book 2!

The Sirin Sisterhood starts right where The Sons of Echidna left off. So much happens in this book - new characters, magic and revelations! Of course it also included more of the banter and chaos I loved from book 1.

If you loved The Sons of Echidna, you are in for a treat.

Special thank you to Athena for the ARC. Can't wait to see what you deliver next. <3

4.25 stars!

I was lucky enough to Beta read this beauty and what can I say......Athena, this is the perfect continuation of your world and the characters in it.

The way they grow and develop, the top tier banter, the magic, the mystical, the revelations all had me on the edge of my seat either cackling with laughter, acting like a giddy school girl or almost shouting at the screen as I read 🥰😂

If you read and loved the first one, you're going to absolutely devour every single morsel of this sequel and still want more, more, more!

Honestly there is so much I could say but TRUST ME, if you haven't read this series now is a great time to start

“A coward with a shield of cheap wit, desperate to be loved and terrified of being seen.”

Athena has done it again folks and not only have they done it but they have absolutely smashed it out of the park. If I could give this book 6 starts I absolutely would and so far it is the best book I have read in 2024.

When you have a world that is so eclectic, with characters as coated in chaos as the Galanos family I assume it’s very hard to write a cohesive story. The Sirin Sisterbood kicks right off at the end of Sons of Echidna and slams us right back into the action. Evidently this family of monsters needs a bit of help to get their house back so they seek out another one of the families in Russia.

This amazing dive into not only Greek Mythology but also introducing Slavic Folklore added so many more fun things to learn and also made me completely obsessed with Domovoi and I now want one for my house please and thank you.

The crossover of cultures as well as the pure feminine divinity you’d only ever find in a Kiki Rockwell song and music video had me enraptured through every chapter. When I say I DEVOURED this book I mean it - I had over 40 annotations 😅 you bet I’ll be doing an annotating reread when I get my hot little hands on a physical copy next month.

This book made me feel everything, I laughed, snorted, cried a lil bit and got to find out more about my favourite Bird - plus we all know everything Athena puts in these books is not just drugs it’s also intentional so you bet there are some sneak peeks about where we may follow the family next. The ending absolutely killed and I’d sell my left kidney for a few more chapters. Is it too early to ask for the next book?

Hi. Hey. We're gonna start this review with all the proper stuff before I start screaming below. 😂
The Sirin Sisterhood starts exactly where we left off in The Sons of Echidna. You thought the last book was good? Buckle tf up because I swear Athena laced this book with cocaine.
Everything we loved in TSOE follows through into this book. The banter, the love, the spice, the pettiness. It's all there.
Athena stepped up the drama. You will gasp. You will scream. You will be in love and want to kill her all at the same time.
Reading The Sirin Sisterhood felt just like going home. The whole time reading I felt like I was the older sister needing to intervene when things got heated, or offer a shoulder when emotions were low.
Before I share some of my screaming thoughts, here are some of my highlights from the book!

"Klein, are you seriously doing the dishes?"
"You don't have to be blood to be family."
"Welcome to the circus."
"I'm a wonderful friend; I buy him a different horse calendar every year."
"...?"
"Bitch, my mother was a saltwater siren."
"This is so fucking unfair."
in comparison to this, he was a pet shop gecko.

Please now enjoy some unhinged feelings so I can try to get out emotions 😂
wow, what a book! Klein's character growth was my favourite he really tore out of his shell. Xim? I feel weird about her and I think I'm about to start an anti-Xim club. Twins??????? my jaw is broken and will never be lifted again. Questioning my sexuality rn thanks Athena. Please everybody read these books 😭

To preface this review: In my heart of hearts, I'm a hater. And I also love Klein. And think Lucy is not worth the trees that are dying for her stupidity to be shown on paper.

Oh, hi, Athena. A huge thank you for the ARC. I'm proud of you for surviving writing Lucy without scratching your eyes out! What a strength of character! You should put 'Lucy survivor' in your character bio. I KNOW I WILL.

“You’re going to hate Aris, probably love Lai, and adore Klein.”

More like "Aris is going to make you roll your eyes, Lai is insufferable and Klein needs a villain arc"

Seriously, WHERE'S KLEIN'S VILLAIN ARC.

To sum this book up: it's about a pack of horny bickering squirrels, plus lots of danger and stupidity (supplied by Lucy and Lai ofc <3), cool lore and messy secrets.

Klein, you're perfect. Don't let these people tell you to drop the starved victorian child look. At least you're not out there effing horses, or maneaters, or sib—
Agata should have slapped a few people, would be real satisfying.
Ryan, I don't know how you can live with these people. Seriously, blink twice if you need help.

Brownie points for that witch who told Lucy to shut up. That was my second of fame. Not a word wasted.

I also love Xim. I loughed out loud when she desinfected her hand after skin contact with Lai. Xim gets it. She's not about to be infected by the Lai disease.

Overall, I AM NOT THE TARGET AUDIENCE OF THIS BOOK. There's way too much spice. I realized I might not be oh so straight. So I guess that's SOMETHING. My pearls have been clutched heavily. AND THEY HAVE BEEN GRINDED TO DUST AFTER LAI AND YOU KNOW WHO—

Anyway. Athena you're lucky I cannot physically throw the book at you.

Spoilers down from here:

Lai deserved it. SHOULD HAVE CUT OUT HIS TONGUE THO, perhaps then there would be some peace and quiet for 0.5 seconds in this book. But I'm sure he'd just be loud in sign language.

And Lucy should have burned. Or Aris should have hit her harder, man, you're a shitty father and you can't even beat women properly? What is the even point of you.

"So there's this guy who gets a d tattoo in a middle of family crisis, just to shove it into his twin sister." (But not actually)

I hope this book finds the right audience,

lovingly, Lucy's biggest hater.

Spoiler free review of The Sirin Sisterhood by @spawn_of_echidna

Firstly, thank you so much Athena for allowing me to read an ARC copy! This book will be out on June 15th, and if you order a copy directly from Athena, it comes with the sprayed edges!

Grab your neck brace, and maybe an alcoholic beverage because you’re in for a treat with this one.

Picking up right where book 1 left off, you’re welcomed back into the family and it feels like coming home.

But that doesn’t last for long as you’re chucked into the deep end. There was so much going on - it felt like whiplash in a good way?!

For those willing to surrender to the chaos, you will be rewarded with a reading experience unlike any other (I’m not joking, this book is unlike anything I’ve ever read)

Plus… there’s drawings! For people who struggle to picture characters and scenes, the relief I felt when I turned the page and saw the illustration was incredible. My brain felt so relaxed 😂

I said this after reading SOE but Athena, respectfully, hurry up because we need book 3 after that ending.

Edit: I have changed my mind. Bumping this up to 5 stars.
I have read this book twice this week. I'm in a huge book hangover now and I dont want to touch any other book besides this one. The ending leaves me wanting 500 pages more.

⭐️ Banter
⭐️magic
⭐️found family
⭐️plot twists and cliffhanger ending!

I DEVOURED this !!! This was a HUGE step up from the first book.
Admittedly, I was intimidated by how chunky the book was but I blinked and somehow finished the book in a day.

A read that had me filled with joy, fear, shock and pride!

What a roller coaster!

Spoiler-free favourites:

Favourite moment: protective Klein at the lake (but admittedly this made my heart stop)

Favourite character: Pizza Greg ❤️

Favourite line: pg 267 this is more of a moment of banter than a line.

Lucy: "...Still I fcked your dad"

Lai: "at least I have a dad"

Brutal 🤣

Second book to The sons of Echidna, THE CLIFHANGER IN THIS BOOK SHOULD BE ILLEGAL 😅

Once again this book has not disappointed, another book that reels you and makes you fall in love and vibe with all of the characters, this is even more dear to my heart as it dives more into Slavic mythology where that’s a deep part of my family history.

The Sirin Sisterhood has opened us up to more of the echidna family history and more background details on each character from the previous book.. I am upset that we have to wait to read the next one! It’s all just so well written !!

Oh my looooord this book is just 🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻

Coming back to this world is such a breath of fresh air. It's witty, it's hilarious, the characters make amazingly questionable decisions where it then works out after they go through trial and error.

The Sirin Sisterhood is a sequel that doesn't disappoint and i can't wait for what comes next

The Sirin Sisterhood is the second instalment of Sons of Echidna and if you thought SoE was wild, you’re in for a hell of a ride with TSS. Think of everything you know as unhinged and then turn it up to full on the unhinged dial because this book is such a wild ride in the best way possible.

Athena has such a cool writing style, mixing mythology and fantasy (and machines!) in a way that feels super fast-paced and I flew through this book because I had to know what happened next.

The banter between characters had me absolutely CACKLING all the way through, and quite frankly I’m so deeply in love with Lai that I might need a therapist. I’m also a Klein stan and his character growth in this book was SO good. Can we also talk about the art work??? An absolute talent.

All in all this was absolutely a 5 star read and I am SAT for everything else Athena writes.

A big thank you to Athena for sending me an advanced eArc, this is the second book in this series, and it does not let you down. This is unlike any other fantasy I have read; it is truly unique with dynamic characters and monsters galore.
.
In book one, I was 100% team Aris but now after finishing book two, I might be 50/50 between Aris and Klein.
.
In book 2 we met a cast of new characters while also seeing the return of some of our fav from book 1. We learn more about the Family including Klein. In need of help to save their home, Lucy and the boys must seek help from a coven of witches. When they arrive, they find there may be more to this coven than they think.
.
My favourite part of book two was the introduction of Slavic myths and legends including my favourite the Domovoi. On more than one occasion I was shocked by twists and turns and cannot believe that Athena has left us hanging.
.
Also, I had to squeal when I saw that she meant her street team in her acknowledgements, I am part of that team hehehehehe!

10 out of 5 stars 🌟 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Oh my fucking god this book was a roller-coaster of emotions. I am so glad I got an Arc for this because I was dying to know what happened after book one. As soon as I began this book it felt like coming home. I adore these characters so much and the found family aspect although they are dysfunctional I love each and every one of them.

There are so many times that I laughed out loud at this book. The sass and humor is top tier.

In this one I really enjoyed how honest these characters were about certain things and how they feel which I believe was very important to the relationships. If you thought SOE was good then buckle up because Sirin Sisterhood is on another level. I adore that we explore Slavic mythology in this book and I am so excited for book three although I am mad at the cliffhanger!!

4.5/4.75 ⭐ rounded up to 5.

An incredibly solid sequel to the first book, this does exactly what I was hoping it would and flesh out the world and mythology side of the story more.

Just like the first book though I had a very enjoyable time reading and found myself flying through the story, the characters were *chefs kiss* and I am a character girlie at heart.

We also get way more different perspective time rather than just Lucy which was refreshing and made the pace of the book feel nice and snappy. Especially intriguing is our look at Xim, we learn much more about about her motivations and secrets along with the secrets of the Farrowatcher family's company.

I also very much enjoyed seeing much more inside of Lai's head and hearing more of his and his family's past e.g. about their mother. Lai is just as loveable as the first book but wedefinitely see more of his broken sharp edges, which honestly just made me love him more.

The Sirin sisterhood of the title were also very interesting and goddamn am I desperate to see more of these ancient families that were teased.

So why only 4.5? Well whilst overall I had a great time reading there was one particular section that I struggled with, that being the section about half way through where Lai and Lucy fall out. Without spoiling too much both parties are in the wrong in some ways for sure and both definitely could have communicated better. And the actual falling out I liked, it felt natural and made sense to me, my issue was the way they made up again. It felt that Lai was the one that had to do all the peace offering, he had to make ammends he had to suffer to realise how sorry he was for acting like an ass (which he did), but Lucy? It felt like Lucy just got to listen to Lai offer an olive branch and go "omg i'm so glad all that pesky fighting is over" Where was her olive branch? Where was she apologising? Cause she also acted like an ass, she cried to Klein but not to Lai when it was him and Freya she wronged. It really just felt very unbalanced in the blame department for me when Lucy messed up a LOT and didn't seem to actually suffer proper consequences until the end and even then it wasn't because she'd been an ass it was because of something else. And again, I actually really enjoyed Lucy having the arc that she did but I felt like she really should have learned some more lessons and gotten less sympathy.

After a moment of hesitation costs her everything, Lucy and her found family are forced out of their sanctuary and into a dangerous world. Hunted and desperate, they seek help from a mysterious coven, but old rivalries and dark forces threaten to destroy what little they have left. Determined to make things right, Lucy is prepared to risk it all no matter the cost

WHY DID THIS END LIKE THIS? I HAVE SO MANY UNANSWERED QUESTIONS!!
Omg, this one was great! We get to see everyone in so much more depth, which I absolutely love, and the storyline moves forward with so many new plot points. I can’t believe it, and I’m beyond excited to keep reading!

We get to know all the characters better in this book, which is exactly what I wanted. While we learn more about them, we’re also left with even more questions, and the feeling that we need to understand them even deeper!

This book expands the world and introduces us to more people in the magical realm, including Lucy’s oldest and best friend. Of course, this adds even more questions I need answered, plus an insane new plotline that hooked me immediately

There’s a lot of character growth and new developments, which I really enjoyed. But the whole book is just filled with their lovable chaos, and I adored that energy. I was basically screaming at the characters the entire time, in the best way. I was so invested

The writing style is definitely unique, but it’s so captivating it makes you want to read until you physically can’t anymore. The storyline is perfect, I don’t want to say too much because the plot twists are best experienced without warning
I loved this book and I am so eager for book 3!!

Every visual element of this book was beautiful, the detailed character art, the striking cover, the sprayed edges, and the unique headings for each POV all worked together to make the reading experience feel extra special and immersive

I’m back with one of my favourite family’s which I love. I have definitely loved getting into Lai’s head, and he changed my opinion on him throughout this book, seeing his motivations, thoughts and emotions. The brief moments he had with Al also makes me hope they both heal and cement their relationship, maybe they’re actually wrong together I don’t know, but there were some super sweet moments so honestly how could I think otherwise.

Lucy was.. interesting… in this one, it’s pretty cool how these characters have insecurities and fears and aren’t always perfect at everything they try etc. For me this was Lucy in TSS, she’s going through a lot, trying to help her new family and wavers from moments of extreme confidence to ‘what the actual f am I doing’ 😅 she is thrown full force into seeing how her actions and words affect others. Whilst we find out more about her origins, her coming to grips and understanding herself runs parallel to the main story. Is she totally fine at the end of the book? I’m not sure yet but this makes it pretty relatable that we can’t magically fix all the broken pieces fast and being comfortable with who you are and your story can take some time.

Klein still remains one of my faves, he has one of the greatest scenes in TSS. But I shall say nothing because it needs to be read. It is glorious. Freya is a pretty cool addition and I’m looking forward to seeing how her character navigates her way forward.

As always the art is perfection and perfectly put in all the right places.

Thank you Athena and Marly for crafting this imperfectly perfect family, I am looking forward to book 3!

I’m so upset by that cliffhanger.

The fact this picked up right from where TSOE left off made me SO happy, especially as I just dove straight into the book with no wait. Another chaotic entry in the adventures of the Galanos family, this time with added responsibility and extra hijinks.

After fleeing the family home and narrowly escaping Eleanore’s clutches, Lucy and the family seek refuge with Xim while they piece together what’s left of their life and what’s next. In order to take on Eleanore and regain the manor, they know they need more power, and so seek out the secretive and cagey Sirin Sisterhood.

With Lai’s attitude, Lucy’s ego, and the absolute lack of healthy communication, the Galanos family are in for shocks and surprises aplenty, and possibly more than they were begging to chew on.

I’m so mad, and so invested, and can’t believe Athena is toying with us like this.

ARC review thanks to the wonderful Athena.

I finished this two weeks ago and still don't properly have the words to describe how much I love what Athena has created!
The first chapter of this had me feeling like I was right back at home with my favourite chaotic family and it continued the whole way through. The pacing, character development, action all had me absolutely hooked and I finished it in a day and then sat there staring aimlessly wondering what I'm going to do with myself after that ending.
This book has what I love most in a book, fantastic characters and hilarious banter. When you combine those with the excellent illustrations that really add to the journey, you end up with a story that will stay with me for life 🖤

I really loved this book! I enjoyed the first one too but this one had lots of twists and turns that were exciting and unexpected. The monsters (especially the Sirens in the lake!) we’re just the right amount of terrifying. I think because they were accompanied by her amazing artworks throughout they seemed more fun and whimsical
(Which I enjoyed!). I think Athena has created such a brilliant cast of characters. I have fallen in love with them all (especially Klein!) I can’t wait for the third book to come out. So excited.
