Relive the tale of Sleeping Beauty, a beautiful princess hidden away, a witch's curse, her fairy godmothers, a handsome prince, and the magic of true love's kiss, in this collection of classic tales from Charles Perrault and the Brothers Grimm.
German philologist and folklorist Jakob Ludwig Karl Grimm in 1822 formulated Grimm's Law, the basis for much of modern comparative linguistics. With his brother Wilhelm Karl Grimm (1786-1859), he collected Germanic folk tales and published them as Grimm's Fairy Tales (1812-1815).
Indo-European stop consonants, represented in Germanic, underwent the regular changes that Grimm's Law describes; this law essentially states that Indo-European p shifted to Germanic f, t shifted to th, and k shifted to h. Indo-European b shifted to Germanic p, d shifted to t, and g shifted to k. Indo-European bh shifted to Germanic b, dh shifted to d, and gh shifted to g.
I listened to the audiobook which featured Julia Whelan as the reader/storyteller who did a superb job. She made each character vibrate with personality and brought them alive as I listened to each story. ‘Sleeping Beauty’ contained over a dozen classic fairytales by Jacob and Wilhelmina Grim and Charles Perrault. I was disappointed however, that the collection was named Sleeping Beauty, as this was my least favorite tale of all.
Audible Plus has granted my wish Sleeping Beauty and Other Classic Stories brings together the timeless tales of Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm and Charles Perrault, beautifully narrated by the enchanting Julia Whelan. It's a match made in fairy tale heaven. As a fan of both Julia's captivating voice and the classic stories, I'm truly delighted. What more could I ask for? I'm certain that with Julia's storytelling and my imagination, I'll be left happily ever after.
