Just happened across this book on our bookshelves and I'm grateful I did. Written with the intention of helping people build a closer relationship with God through consistent quiet times, I appreciated the many simple ideas and examples given throughout the book. It's very practical, straightforward, and a good tool for inspiring new ways to approach time alone with Him at a variety of stages of life.

Worth the read. A wonderful reminder of how important, life changing and needed quiet time with God is. Lots of practical applications and ideas along with encouragement, Bible verses and good Christian advice.

“No relationship flourishes without some face-to-face time when we give our total attention to the other person.” Another book that I think every believer should read!

I highly recommend this book for those who want to get in an established quiet time routine and have a deeper relationship with God.

To be honest, I purchased this book because I liked the author's previous work Pursue the Intentional Life. I have a quiet time every morning, and thought I would just pick up some gems here and there to enhance it. Instead, I have completely overhauled my morning devotion time. Using her method of Report, Reflect and Respond I:

1) Read a passage of scripture (right now I'm working through the book of Mark)
2) Report (write out) what the scripture said. (You can be as succinct or verbose as you'd like--there are examples in the book)
3) Reflect: Journal your reflections and response to what God taught you.

I think this method is good for me because it slows me down--I notice things I haven't noticed before. Writing out the "report" helps me to be more aware of what I've read. The time spent writing out reflections is also good. I'm never quite sure where the writing will take me, and it's interesting to see where God leads me.

I like how the author says there is no wrong response. In fact, she says, this is your time to ask questions of God. In other words, if you don't like something that is happening in scripture or your life, just be up front with God about it. I found it very freeing to say, "This just doesn't make sense to me God, if you expect me to understand it, you have to help me". God is not afraid of any of our questions, and really just wants us to talk with him.

I loved how the author explains why she kept up with the discipline of meeting with God
But I kept working at meeting with God because our two lives are merged together. I can't separate myself from Him. His Spirit lives inside of me; His life is now my life.I keep coming because I can't help it.
I've had the habit of meeting with God in the morning for a number of years. This book has enriched and lengthened that time.

This is the most thorough and best book I have read on the subject of having a daily quiet time with God. Fleming stresses that having that daily time is the single most important factor in spiritual growth. Outstanding!

Very refreshing and encouraging! Every season of life brings new blessings and challenges to quiet study of Gods Word and prayer time. As someone who has been blessed to walk with The Lord since 6 years old, I highly recommend this handbook to Christians new and old!
