I am really enjoying this series. This book was good and the characters were very likable. I ‘did’ figure out who the murder was, but still enjoyed the story. Looking forward to book 3!

With an eye to a fresh future, Clara Kelly is planning to turn her 1800s home into a B&B. A trip to the local bookstore intended to gain materials to shore up her request for a historical plaque has unexpected consequences when a book signing leads to the murder of a local author. With the ghost of the victim demanding all her attention, will Clare be able to restore her home and solve the crime?

4.5 Stars

I was delighted to see the newest book in this series hit the BookSirens shelves. This series has a brand-new perspective on amateur detection that hit the spot. The main character, Clara, is a little bit snarky and a little bit tender-hearted. I love her resourcefulness in meeting challenges and find her inspiring.

In my previous review of the book that opened the series, I mentioned what a bright idea it was to have Salem, MA as the backdrop to the series. This still holds, perhaps even more so with the new story. The spookiness of the setting heightens the emotions, causing goosebumps and the occasional shudder.

The mystery was fabulous. The suspect pool was not vast, but it required a skilful touch to narrow the potential targets to one. The wrap-up was decisive and just felt right. Very satisfying!

I recommend this book and series to readers who love a little paranormal with their cosy mysteries.

Thank you to Dina Marie and BookSirens for the opportunity to view this eARC. As always, my opinions are my own, honest and true.

Dina Marie delivers a 2 for 2 with this latest book in the Salem Spirits Cozy Mysteries! It was finished all in one night. I would say that it can be read as a stand-alone, BUT you will miss some connections and references made in this second installment, especially as some issues/feuds continues from the first to the second book. The one star markdown is due to the fact that I would have liked a little more character depth. You can see it in the periphery, giving me hope I will get it in later installments.

Everything I wrote in my review of the first book still holds true, with the cozy feeling seeping from the pages, making it hard to put the book down. What the second installment added, and what was perhaps my favorite part, is the increased focus on William. Throughout the book you got glimpses into who he was before he died (and how his demise came to be). I look forward to seeing more of him in future installments! ..and perhaps adding some more of Sebastian as well?.

Finding the Truth . . .

Settle down for another awesome story by this author. Clara Kelly wants to convert her 1800’s home into a B&B and heads for the Salem Historical Society to apply for a historic building plaque for the side of her house to make it look “official” and a part of history. She was surprised when Mavis tried to discourage her from getting a plaque to draw attention since William Kensington (her ghostly Union soldier friend) was a traitor to his country! Mavis insisted this information was in the historical record. Clara didn’t believe it, but since William hadn’t revealed much of his past to her, she was unsure how to respond.

Across the street was a book shop and she headed over there to look for more historical information. She saw a sign announcing “Book Signing Today: Best-selling Author Marlena Ryder”. All the historical books Clara needed to research had been moved to accommodate the author’s event so she would have to come back later or wait until the author finished and the shelves were moved back. When it was time for Marlena to sign her books, she hadn’t returned from the ladies’ room. When Sadie Smith knocked and opened the door, she let out a scream as the bloodied body of Marlena Ryder lay on the bathroom floor, her throat slit and a copy of her book, The Secrets We Keep, opened on top of her! When Clara looked up, she saw the ghost of Marlena standing near the bathroom and, when they made eye contact and the ghost realized Clara could see her, she ran up to her and demanded that she solve her murder! Insisting she couldn’t help and had to meet the electrician about her renovation project, she hurried home -- only to find her miserable sister-in-law Allison Turner on her doorstep, scowling. She intends to contest the inheritance, feeling she deserves her deceased brother’s properties more than Clara. And while Marlena argues with Clara to invite her into the house, the electrician arrives! Does it ever slow down?

Generous Clara can’t turn someone in need away, so she will begin to look for the truth of who murdered Marlena. Will she find the murderer, and perhaps more than she was expecting? She will also find out her ghostly friend William’s history and more information about her new home. There is so much going on in her life, but you won’t want to miss it! The story is very well-written and the characters will feel like real people, with their annoying habits still intact! Grab your copy and join Clara as she takes on her busy challenges. This series has a bit of everything you might enjoy in a cozy mystery… and more!

I love the small town feel of Salem that Dina Marie has created in her series Salem Spirits Cozy Mysteries, not to mention having a ghost as a roommate sounds interesting as well. Ghost keep finding Clara Kelly and she keeps avoiding them until she an avoid them no longer. Clara Kelly heads over to the bookstore because she is looking for historical Salem books. She aims to learn the history of the house she lives in because people take pity on her when they learn which house she wants to know about. While at the bookstore she stumbles on a collection of people there to hear a reading by and get a signature from a best selling author who is from that very town but what she doesn't bargain on is seeing yet another dead body and a ghost hanging out near said dead body. A ghost who figures out very quickly that Clara Kelly can see her. This book is quite the adventure for Clara who really just wants to hunker down and open up her Bed and Breakfast. She almost gets herself killed while inadvertently discovering who murdered the author.

I love the relationships she is forming with some of the townsfolk who are beginning to recognize her as she walks through the small town. I think there might be love in her future with Sebastian, the dog groomer. She also is king friends especially her ghost friend William

She has a lot to do with getting her B&B ready to open, trying to exonerate her ghost roommate of his ghastly reputation, and keeping her sister-in-law from taking this house right out from underneath her. I look forward to reading more about Clara's adventures in the future.

Clara’s abusive late husband, Joe, has left her the perfect house as part of her inheritance—a historical home in Salem, Massachusetts, complete with the ghost of William Kensington, who’s now her best friend. But when Clara goes to the bookstore to gather historical references to the home, she learns that William may not be who she thought he was. Further, while she’s there, visitors discover the body of Salem’s own best-selling novelist, who is killed while on a bathroom break from her launch party and book signing in the store. To make matters worse, now the author’s ghost is pressuring Clara to solve her murder. Clara just wants to get on with her life, turn her new home into a bed-and-breakfast, and rebuild her life in this new place, except the ghosts have other ideas.

I love cozy mysteries! Most are warm and fuzzy stories, great reads to enjoy under a blanket with a cup of tea and a few cookies. Ghost Writer is no exception. While this is book two in the Salem Spirits series, it’s easy to read and follow without having read book one (which is where her husband dies and William enters the scene). Without going too far into backstory, Author Dina Marie gives enough clarification to help the reader come up to speed and follow along.

I enjoyed getting to know Clara, who’s learning to be independent and build her own life without her abusive spouse. Her character shows a lot of courage, which just made me like her more. Even when a prospective new love interest enters the picture, she opts for friendship while she learns to stand on her own, a nice touch of women’s empowerment. Nicely done!

Ghost Writer is an easy read with endearing characters and a lot of heart. Definitely recommended.

I haven't read the first book in the series, but that did not affect my enjoyment of this book.

The author was able to provide the necessary background information needed to understand the main character and her situation while setting up a new story. So while I know there's some detail I'm not getting coming to the series in book 2, I'm looking forward to going back and reading the first book.

All that to say, don't be put off reading this book simply because you haven't read the first one. The characters, even the ghosts, feel like real people, with real emotions and are relatable. However, they are not all likable. I think that makes the setting more believable.

I loved the small moments when Clara would talk to her dog like he definitely understood her. I got a good laugh when she would slip up, when talking to her living neighbors about the ghosts, by talking about them in a way that indicated she knew the ghosts when they were alive.

The friendship she develops with William, the resident ghost in her home, is also intriguing to me.

At the end of the book one mystery is solved, but you have things in Clara's personal life to look forward to exploring. Plus, we get to learn a bit about the resident ghost in Clara's house, but that leaves more to explore in future books as well.

All in all, I love the characters and the setting is interesting. You get one complete story in book 2 with plenty more to look forward to reading about in future stories.

A great second book in this spooky Salem series!

This story was very hard to put down! Clara’s working hard on renovating her new home. In search of historical information relating to William and Mansion House Clara finds herself at the local bookstore at the same time as a celebrated local author is having a book signing event.

When the author turns up dead and then notices that Clara can see her, she demands Clara investigate her murder - which reveals a lot more than the author expects. Though there don’t appear to be many suspects, the way the author lead the mystery to a very satisfying conclusion really kept me guessing.

I loved the progression of Clara’s story and excited to read more on William, Clara’s resident Civil War era ghost. It’s a moving storyline and shows that it’s not just in current times can events be twisted into fake news, the results of which are a cautionary tale across the intervening centuries.

I enjoyed the developing connection between Clara and the ghost of writer Marlena Ryder - it’s great to see her setting boundaries and standing up for herself whilst still being true to the kindness in her nature. I would have liked a bit more personal development for Clara as I feel there’s so much more to her character, but hopefully there’s more to come in the following books.

I highly recommend this book and think all fans of paranormal and cozy mysteries will love it!

Another ghostly mystery

Another ghost and another unexpected case for Clara. As she’s starting on her new venture and new life sans abusive husband she was hoping the ghost and the sleuthing was a one time thing. No such luck.
I thought this book was wonderful! I enjoyed the characters both human and ghost and the discoveries that Clara made were both sad and shocking. Clara is coming into her own and learning to rely on her judgment and trying not to live in fear, though I imagine she’ll still have rough times abuse and its aftermath can linger. But she is brave, smart, kind and caring. I enjoyed the mystery it was very well done. I thought for sure old house, trap door was gonna come into play but I was totally wrong and intrigued by the resolution. This book is absolutely more hopeful than the first in the series and I’m enjoying this world and its inhabitants. I’m very much looking forward to the next installment.

I'm loving this series! Clara lives in a house with its own resident ghost, William, that only she can see and speak with. William and Clara have an unusual friendship as you can imagine, but even though they lived hundreds of years apart, it's so true and wholesome, I love it. Clara is digging into the history of the house and William when she stumbles onto the murder of a famous writer. The writer is horribly unlikable and Clara is beyond kind to help her. Clara digs up some secrets as she helps uncover who killed the author.

I love Clara; she is such a great main character. She is strong, smart, independent, and kind. She is still navigating figuring out who she is after being in an abusive and controlling relationship for many years. I love that she is choosing herself for the moment while still helping others and remaining kind and compassionate.
I enjoyed the story. It was a really good read. The culprit wasn't immediately obvious which I appreciate. I enjoy the balance of the murder and history mysteries in the story. I can't wait to see how William's story unfolds.

I was lucky to receive an advanced reader copy of this book. I started reading it and realized I wanted to start with the first book- it does provide a good background for the characters qnd their story continues here.

I am obsessed with this series! It is a joy to see Clara rid of her abusive ex and continuing work on her B&B. I was also relieved to hear Williams side of history. Clara and William have an unexpected friendship that is so warm! I am loving watching their friendship grow. I’m excited too to see where the relationship with Sebastian goes! I also love watching Clara grow as an amateur sleuth! This series reminds me of the TV show Ghosts! So cute, an easy read, characters to fall in love with, and a small town filled with history- what’s not to love? Definitely recommend!

I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC and am happy to provide my honest review. 5/5 stars, 100% will be finishing this series.

I've been so grateful to be gifted ARCS of the first two novels in this series.
I absolutely adore them and really look forward to the next in the series.
In this installment we see Clara settling into her new home with her resident ghost William Kensington.
But then while on a book tour a local author, Marlena Ryder is slain in the bookshop bathroom.
Hence Clara has ANOTHER ghost to deal with and whom wants her help to solve her murder.
Meanwhile researching this case she delves into the history of Kensington house and sees rumours of William being branded a traitor.
With the scandal of his past clouding her new bed and breakfast venture at Kensington house and trying to solve a vengeful Marlena's murder.
Clara really has her hands full, can she exonerate William and help Marlena get justice and is her case even as cut and dried as it seems?
Another fantastic story in the Salem Spirits series.

This book follows Clara Kelly, a new resident of Salem, as she is asked by the ghost of the victim for help solving the victim's murder.

I liked the premise that Clara can see ghosts, unlike most people. In fact, there is a ghost in the house she is living in. He is part of the long-term story arc across multiple novels in the series.

It was a fun read, and as the second in the series, it would be best to read the first novel first, if only so the references she makes to the past have better context.

While I enjoyed the story, the characters did not draw me in as much as I would have hoped. It felt as if most of the characters just needed a bit more depth. Hopefully, that will develop over the course of more novels!

Another great installment in this cozy mystery series! I love Clara and William and learning a bit more about them in this book.

I could easily have binged this whole book in a day if I didn't have to work or do adult responsibilities. I have always wanted to visit Salem and this series makes me want to visit even more.

It's such a cozy setting and the story flows so well. I decided to read book one before this so I had the whole picture of the story and I'm so glad I did. Now I'm just dying to get my hands on book 3! I need more. Even after only two books in the series, I can tell this will be a favorite cozy mystery series for me.

Thank you so much to the publisher and BookSirens for the free ARC of this book. I leave this review voluntary.

I just love these characters!

Clara is well on her way to making Salem home, becoming friendly with local shop owners and renovating the Kensington House.

I like how her relationship with William develops into a closer friendship and some of their initial rules get nixed as they adapt to living together.

I look forward to Sebastian and Clara getting closer but I like that romance isn't the main focus on this series.

The murder mystery was a good one! The plot was fast-paced and the resolution came together nicely.

Another fun read. I loved this book’s murder scenario with its own unique spin, and the over-arching mystery of William. This is book 2 of the series, and I would have preferred a little more reminder of the cast and background to help refresh my memory, but it didn’t detract. Again, setting us up for the next book easily with William and Kensington House’s story. I’m not one for continued antagonism, so the lingering issue(s) of her former in-laws isn’t my thing and I could do without. There’s plenty of antagonism with the town reporter and police characters.

Looking forward to reading more of the series.

I'm going to need Ms. Marie to release the books in this series quicker because I can't wait to read the next book!

While looking for information on her haunted house so that she can begin turning it into a B&B, Clara Kelly, is in the bookstore when the body of author Marlena Ryder is found. Once Marlena realizes that Clara can see her she demands her murder solved. While trying to solve the murder, she also finds out information about William and her home.

This is such a great book in a great series. I enjoy characters that seem to be real, people you may know. Dina Marie delivers. And the Salem, MA setting couldn't be better. I can't wait for the next book.

Let me begin by saying, This book is Amazing!

The next instalment in The Salem Spirits Cozy Mystery series is a fun, sensitive, fast paced and true blue cozy mystery.

Clara is in the process of readying her house so that she can start her bed and breakfast, When she discovers an unpleasant fact about her house and William. Clara wants to research whether what she’s learnt is true and she goes to the local bookstore. A book signing event is on at the store for a local bestselling author Marlena Ryder. Before the event is over, Marlena is dead and turned into a ghost. And she is at Clara’s heels to Push her to find her killer.

Excellent!!! This was a very inspirational story about righting wrongs, second chances, and new beginnings. Clara can see and talk to ghosts and one is seeking justice for her murder , while Clara is trying to right an adjacent wrong. I especially liked Clara finding out the truths about William and about Penelope's actions when push came to shove. A short read with great impact . I like that there's always so much going on- multilayered . I'm invested in this series and these characters. Love this book the second in series. Mystery to solve and the main character Clara is moving on from her past and has plans for a B&B. Becomes best friends with a ghost. It’s inspiring to improve yourself and move on after events that could keep you in the past. Looking forward to the next book. I wanted to read it n one sitting but couldn’t. Not often I feel good after ready a mystery, there’s not a happy ever after as such but just her personal growth gave me feelings of joy.

Clara and William are baaaack! And ohmygosh I keep loving them more and more.

Listen, Sebastian, you're cute and all, but #TeamWilliam all the way.

The mystery is very cozy, it kind of works itself out, but what I love the most is how Clara manages to bring the best out of anyone she befriends, living or spirit.

Also I knew there was no way William was a bas guy. I KNEW IT.

This is a charming and enchanting series which I absolutely recommend.

Great continuation of Clara working to get her B&B up and going, along with the ghosts finding her. Lots of interesting characters (ghost and human) as well as little romance. An excellent sequel to the first book. I started reading and didn't stop until I reached the end of the book. It's a very suspense filled story that keeps you guessing what and who is involved. The ghost, William, is so alive as you read the story. Clara is becoming more of her own person as she learns to live her life without fear. I will definitely look forward to the next book in this series.
