Immaculate writing, a fascinating moment that gives you huge food for thought.
I got this book for free on a promotion the other day and I was feeling unwell yesterday so I thought, hey, let's sit down with the first short-read I can find on my phone. Hence Simulacrum. The only problem with this short read is IT SHOULD BE LONGER!
I honestly couldn't get enough of the Victorian Gothic, steampunk, mad scientist mix going on in the atmosphere of this short piece. It's stunning how well the atmosphere can grab a reader in so few words. The tale was well written with engaging characters that I instantly warmed to and wanted to know more about. The plot itself is left deliciously vague in places to keep you guessing as to what's going on. People who need a story spoonfed to them might not appreciate that, but for me it was heaven to not be told verbatim what the truth of the tale really was. My conclusion is that I need to read more from this writer as soon as I can!

I really enjoyed this story. It was fast moving and intriguing. Even though this isn't the usual genre I read I loved the Victorian setting and the characters. I wish it had been longer. I was so disappointed when I reached the last page and realized that the story had finished. Always leave your audience wanting more I guess! I'm already enjoying some of the author's other books now.
