It was the stuff rom-coms are made of—meet a girl in an airport bar.
Buy her a drink.
Get her number.
Then I smudged it. Literally.
A year later, I’m still kicking myself for letting her get away. But I have bigger things to worry about. Like running my family’s Fortune 500 company.
Until she shows up in my small town.
As my newest employee.
The spark is back in an instant.
And our plan to just be friends? Forget about it.
Especially once I’ve tasted her lips.
The pull between us is just as strong as it was a year ago. But thanks to the company’s no-fraternization policy, sneaking around only makes things hotter between us.
Margeaux is as focused and driven as I am, with goals and plans of her own.
I refuse to stand in the way.
But now all of that is on the line.
Turns out, our relationship isn’t as secret as we think.
Claire Hastings is a walking, talking awkward moment. She loves Diet Coke, gummi bears, the beach, and books (obvs). When not reading she can usually be found hanging with friends at a soccer match or grabbing food (although she probably still has a book in her purse). She and her husband Drew live in Atlanta with their fur-child Denali.

Ohhh my gosh! This book was amazing!! Feel It in the Air is book 2 in the Hayes Family series and it follows Grumpy Gus and Margeaux. This book had me hooked from the beginning. The way Claire introduces her characters and starts building their characters for us is amazing. I fell in love with Margeaux from the very beginning, and we know Gus from Blue Jeans in Low Beans as he is Milo’s oldest brother.
We knew from BJILB that Gus met the most amazing girl in an airport bar and they hit it off amazingly, only problem, Gus smudged her phone number and spent a year kicking himself. Now a year later, Margeaux is hired to work in the legal department at Gus’s family business. Can they rekindle what they had a year ago or did Margeaux move on after no call from Gus?!
I loved the chemistry Gus and Margeaux had from the very beginning and you could see it get stronger the more they are around each other. I loved Margeaux. She is super smart and caring. She busted her butt to get to where she is today with multiple degrees. Gus is the grumpy oldest Hayes brother and carries the world on his shoulders. Is Gus willing to finally bend some rules and get the girl of his dreams, even though she’s an employee.
I absolutely loved watching them fall in love with each other, watch the connection and spark get more intense after the pages went on. Their banter with each other and the side characters is epic. I absolutely love the side characters, all the Hayes siblings are hilarious and they love ribbing on each other. Watching Margeaux fall right into place with the Hayes family and friends was seamless and amazing. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and going through all the emotions along with them.
There was so much emotion in this story. The characters, like always, were incredibly written. The book had everything I love in a book, a great storyline, amazing MCs, fabulous side characters, some drama, amazing family, and of course lots of love and spice.
Hickory Hills, GA, is one of those small towns that feels like home, and I’ll spend as much time there as possible. The Hayes family is close knit with good-natured banter that makes the reader feel like she belongs.
Unfortunately, Gus Hayes has given had family some excellent fodder for their teasing. Who meets the girl of their dreams at an airport bar and when she writes her number on his hand proceeds to grab the cold glass of beer and smudge the numbers so they’re unreadable? Our guy, Gus, that's who.
A year later, Margaux Finnegan is the newest attorney with the Hayes companies, and the attraction hasn’t diminished at all. Commence the sneaking around. Feelings grow, but what they thought was secret comes to light, and it's one big mess. The only thing that remains constant is the way Margeaux and Gus feel about each other.
With small-town charm, a family that feels like home and a mean girl you’ll love to hate, this one has something to please the romance reader in each of us. Humorous, steamy, and full of heart, you’ll love this place and its people so much you’ll wish you could stay here forever.
I could feel so much emotion in this story. It is well written and the characters are multifaceted. Gus and Margeaux's meeting story is great and I love their chemistry.
Gus’s airport mystery woman is finally revealed and she does not disappoint.
From that very first airport meeting there is a spark between Gus and Margeaux. When they run into a year later at Hayes? Yep, that spark is still there and the chemistry between them only grows as the story continues.
I love that Gus, the rule follower older brother, bends rules when it comes to Margeaux. He shows he is willing to take risks. I also love that the man is honest up front to her and doesn’t drag out the truth. Margeaux, I have a massive girl crush on her. She is a BA and we all love a smart girlie.
Of course, with any big family there are some great family moments with the Hayes and I just want to be a part of them. I can’t wait to see what is in store for the next brother…
If you’re looking for a small town, age gap, workplace romance check this one out.
Having read the first of the Hayes brothers book and was introduced to Gus I knew his story was going to be special and I was not disappointed, this had everything I love in a book, great storyline, great MCs and surrounding characters, a little bit of drama, wonderful family dynamics, their sense of humour and love for each other is enviable and of course plenty of heat. Gus is the eldest of the Hayes siblings so pressure is on his shoulders to make sure the family business is successful, stuck at an airport due to a delay he meets and falls for Margeaux they have a wonderful time, she leaves her number but alas that number disappears leaving Gus with a dilemma regretting that The One may be lost forever. Fast forward a year and as fate would have it she’s now the new lawyer at Hayes industries and this is where their journey begins and of course it’s not smooth sailing as there are some obstacles, some dodgy colleagues and accusations to overcome. A gorgeous and well written book. Next is Hux’s story and I’m hoping his hea is a real doll😜
I totally geeked over this storyline. There’s so much that I want to word vomit over this book!
Okay - guy meets girl in an airport bar. Instant chemistry. Girl writes number on guys hand, guy grabs beer and ruins number. Guy spends a year getting razzed on by his brothers and feeling like he missed something huge with said girl. Girl walks into his family business to work in their legal department and she’s not happy to see him.
What a meet-cute, right?!
But let’s add in that she’s wicked smart and totally driven - just like he is. Match made in heaven.
Throw in some work place relationship grey areas and now we’re cooking with gas.
This story is high velocity, fun, inspiring (girl power!), and everything we love about being in small town, Hickory Hills, GA.
-Second chance -Small town -Age Gap -Workplace Romance -Grumpy x Sunshine -Airport Meet Cute
An airport meeting and a wrong number have been on Gus and Margaux's minds for a year, but they never thought they would meet again as boss and employee.
This was a low angst read that was fun to read. Great chemistry, characters, funny moments and a HEA.
I was given a free copy of this book and I'm voluntarily leaving an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Omg, we get to meet Gus' mystery woman in his book!! And she's so wonderful! She's smart and beautiful! Gus has fallen and fallen hard!
Gus runs into the woman he met at the JFK airport bar a year ago at his family’s company. She's now an employee, and he's so over the moon he's got his second chance! Gus is a rule follower, and he finds himself breaking all sorts of rules when it comes to Margeaux.
I love their chemistry and banter. It's so good!
And I love how welcoming Gus' big family is of Margeaux. She's it for him.
Stuck in an airport, Gus Hayes meets a beautiful woman, but loses contact with her. When they meet again, the spark is still there, but there is an issue. Well-written, with a huge cast of characters, each of which will get their story, I expect. Gently humorous at times, and sweetly sentimental at others, not too clean and not too steamy. Very enjoyable.
We are back in Hickory Hills! If you remember from Bronwyn and Noel’s story in Small Town Boy, Gus met this woman at an airport, who could have been the one. When she writes her number on his palm, the condensation from his beer smudged some of the numbers. We continue to see his brothers give him crap in Blue Jeans in Low Beams.
But a year later, and Margeaux is in the legal department of his family’s business. Now, as his employee, she is off limits. Gus doesn’t break the rules, but will he risk it all when the woman of his dreams comes back into his life?
I love how smart and caring Margeaux is. And that Gus just loves how smart and brilliant she is. Gus knows what he wants from the beginning. He care and carries the world on his shoulders. Will he let Margeaux help carry the burden?
I’ve missed the Hayes family, and I loved being back in Hickory Hills. I can’t wait to continue on this family’s journey 💜
We met Gus some time ago in a Small Town Boy. His airport mystery women, “the one”, and her smudged number. In Blue Jeans and Low Beams, Gus is reminded of the event, by his brothers, repeatedly.
Well, mystery women has appeared at Hayes Industries, as the newest attorney. With a no-frat clause in place, do Margaux and Gus even have a chance?
What has this story standing on it’s own is the third party causing all the drama! Because all the siblings saw the handwriting on the wall. What could have easily fallen into place, makes the story that much more fun.
Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.
This author is single handedly making me fall back in love with small town romances.
Feel It in the Air was such a wonderful read. It had a lot of great tropes in it, and done in a wonderful way. There was grumpy/sunshine, employee/boss, age gap, missed connection, forbidden love. Just everything.
The way it's written though all of these things just melded together in a well blended plot so that one trope didn't overpower all the others. It was just a perfect mix of what they needed to be in order to enrich the characters and the story line.
This is a book where the characters themselves are really the plot and move the story forward, create the tension, and build the world for us. This book can be read as a stand alone, but it is interconnected to the first book in the series. The Hayes Family follows a set of siblings who all own or oversee parts of a large corporation set in a small town. The small town is Hickory Hills which is another series by this author. You also don't need to have read that series in order to enjoy this book. As the author uses the small town gossip and small town interconnections to seamlessly fill in new to her readers with what you need to know.
Our two main characters in Feel It in the Air are Gus and Margeaux. In the first book of the Hayes series we had learned that Gus had once met the supposed love of his life in a bar in JFK. This is the story of that chance meeting and what happens later in life. That missed connection shows up in the form of Margeaux, a year later, as a new hire at Hayes Corporation. The corporation that Gus is poised to take over from his father in the not so distant future.
While there is a ten year age gap between these two characters, Margeaux's intense focus and drive, not to mention her intellect cuts that gap down to nothing. It also makes Gus have to apologize to his older brother who also has a younger significant other that Gus was vocally against in the first book in the series.
Gus spends a lot of this book learning a lot about himself and doing a lot of growing up. He lets himself break rules. Big ones. Big bad ones. He has a relationship with an employee when he knows he shouldn't. He has a relationship with a woman much younger than him when he was so against his brother having a similar relationship. He starts to share the burdens he carries around for his family with the woman he is in the relationship with, letting someone else see the worries, strains, and stresses he has on a daily basis.
I went into this book expecting a Grumpy Gus. I didn't expect to fall in love with a caring, concerned, and overinvolved with his siblings lives Gus. He isn't grumpy. He's constantly on the look out for what's in the best interest for them and trying to stop pitfalls for them before they can happen. Expect in this case he didn't let any of them in to help him when he needed it.
Margeaux has to be one of the my top tier female main characters that I have read in a long long time. This woman is just......she is my catnip of female characters. Her brain and her intellect are just SO amazing. The author didn't downplay the smarts she gifted her character with either. She leaned all the way into the smart, educated, driven, and utter nerd that she created and I was here for it. This is a woman who isn't afraid to show her smarts, stand up for herself, show the world that she will work for what she wants and will walk when she needs to in order to protect herself.
There isn't any miscommunication between these two, it's a matter of, getting them to agree that they can have each other and all of their goals, aspirations, and jobs AS WELL AS each other. It's a gift of the magi sort of situation.
I love a character who knows her worth as both a human as well as her own mind. Margeaux doesn't disappoint in this department at all. She's sassy, she's smart, she doesn't back down or play around. She says what she means and what's on her mind. She doesn't play games. The younger Hayes brothers respect for it too.
I also loved how intuitive her character was. She became very good at reading the small cues that each Hayes sibling had very quickly. Assessing each personality and picking up on the smaller indications of when they were in turmoil and when they were joking around. It made her the perfect foil for Gus who also watches his siblings with the same eagle eyed care.
Plot wise this book not only gave us some more depth into the Hayes corporation which allowed Margeaux's character to shine and be built, but it also allowed for Gus to have flaws, and for him to break some rules. The pacing was excellent. The device used to reveal the forbidden relationship was all in small town fashion as it should have been. I loved that the overlap of employee vs "known you since you were in diapers/dated my daughter/we were in kindergarten together" was balanced perfectly with the "we are adults in a very serious situation".
Overall it was a great read, one I hated to put down as my kindle kept hitting my face since I was falling asleep while reading, and a book I devoured. I'm falling more and more in love with all of the Hayes brothers with each book in this series that comes out, and I'm looking back at the Hickory Hills series for rereads while I wait for the next Hayes brother to pop out. The overlap between the two is just right. It hits that perfect amount of "just enough to entice you with side characters" and "relief that the side characters have books too".
I have to admit that Gus and Margeaux intrigued me, but the nastiness of a certain mean girl is really what had me wondering what the what was going on! Why does she hate Margeaux SO vehemently from jump? What is she hiding? Will she get her comeuppance? While the first one is easily solved because she’s clearly just a mean person, the last two are the ones to really bring the drama and the twists.
The forbidden relationship might shock some, but not for long. I mean, all of the Hayes siblings, their friends, and their partners saw it coming. Especially Auggie, which cracked me up. What better reaction than “I told you it was a 3” could be had when the mystery girl truth comes out? And while everyone seems fine with it, one person is absolutely not okay. And that person’s jealous anger will be their downfall.
I felt Margeaux’s pain and fear so clearly, but I also watched the wheels turn in her brilliant brain, so I knew she would be okay. She and Gus may have a bit of cardio via worrying and pacing, but they also use their worrying minds to find the answers that everyone needs. And oh, that final meeting was so delicious to witness.
But I’m still holding out for another sibling and a best friend. I’m pretty sure some pain and sadness is on the way, yet I’m also sure that it will lead to true happiness. I just hope they’re going to figure out their forever soon.
“Because there’s magic in the air. I can feel it.” August Hayes is having the worst travel day ever. His flight keeps getting delayed and the airport is beyond crowded. But when he spots an empty chair and the chance for a beer and food he rushes to ask “that seat taken?”
“Do you plan on selling me something, askin’ about my relationship with the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, or mansplainin’ anything to me in any way?” Margeaux Finnegan just wants to get back to California but the weather is not cooperating, so why not get to know the guy who needs a seat? After a couple hours the two are instantly bonded and she rushes for her flight after giving him her number with the hopes he will call. Fast forward a year and there has been no communication, but with them in the same place again they aren’t taking any chances!
Gus and Margeaux were cute together. They simply couldn’t ignore their attraction and were willing to risk it all. “You were, are, and forever will be worth every risk I have to take.”
I loved seeing all the Hayes siblings and their friends again throughout this story. I’m so excited for what is to come next! Thank you @clairehastings_author for the ARC! Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🔥: “Finally, my turn to play.”
Feel It in the Air by Claire Hastings is a delightful addition to the Hayes Family series, showcasing the author's knack for blending humor and heartfelt moments. Set in a charming small town, the book captures the essence of familial bonds and the hilarity that often accompanies them.
One of the standout features of this novel is the engaging family dynamics. The banter among the characters is not only entertaining but also feels authentic, making readers feel like part of the family. Hastings does an excellent job of developing her characters, allowing readers to connect with their struggles and triumphs.
The storyline is both light-hearted and touching, striking a balance that keeps readers invested without becoming overly dramatic. While some plot points may feel predictable, the warmth and charm of the characters elevate the narrative, making it an enjoyable read.
Overall, Feel It in the Air earns a solid 4-star rating for its engaging writing, relatable characters, and the perfect blend of humor and heart. Fans of contemporary romance will find this book a satisfying escape into a world where love and laughter go hand in hand.
I’ve said it before, but I love being back in Hickory Hills! Feel it in the Air is the second book in the Hayes Family series, and this one focuses on the eldest sibling, Gus. If you've read any Hickory Hills/Hayes series books, you probably remember that Gus and how he met a woman once, but smudged her phone number. Fast forward a year, and that same woman, Margeaux, now works for the family business—and, for now, Gus is her boss.
The two had instant chemistry the night they met at JFK airport, and this book is packed with all the tropes: second chance, forbidden boss/employee, grumpy/sunshine, and more. I loved how both Gus and Margeaux are career-focused and never really put themselves first. That is, until they meet the one. And let’s be real, I loved the drama, too. It wouldn’t be fun if everything went smoothly, right?
It was great to learn more about the Hayes family while still seeing familiar faces from Hickory Hills. Both Gus and Margeaux grew so much and finally decided it was time to fight for something great. This series just keeps getting better, and I can’t wait for Hux and Dolly’s story next!
A terrific, funny, charming employee/employer romance that grabs your attention immediately. Ms. Hastings gives us a storyline in which two people have a chance meeting: Gus the oldest Hayes brother and Margeaux, at the airport bar. They both leave an impression on one another but when she has to leave, she leaves her number but it gets ruined. A year later, Gus comes face to face with the woman who has invaded his thoughts. The only problem is that Margeaux is his family's company's lawyer and is off-limits. Or is she? The best part of their story is that Gus is such a rule follower, he never bends or breaks the rule, but when his brothers tell him to live a little he does just that. I love how sassy Margeaux is. She is a smart and confident woman who knows what she wants and goes after it. The two of them make the perfect couple. The chemistry between them is off the charts and you could see it right from the start. I can't wait for the next installment in the Hayes Family series.
Feel It in the Air, the second book in Claire Hastings’ Hayes Family series, takes us back to Hickory Hills, and I couldn’t be more excited to dive into Gus’s story. The eldest Hayes brother meets Margeaux in a serendipitous encounter at an airport bar, where their flights are delayed. A few drinks, stolen glances, some flirtatious banter, and a smudged napkin lay the groundwork for their undeniable connection.
Fast forward 12 months, and their paths cross again when Margeaux comes to Hickory Hills to work for the Hayes family. The chemistry between them is electric, but the road to romance isn’t smooth—family dynamics, witty banter, and emotional ups and downs bring the characters to life.
With rich storytelling, complex characters, and all the feels, this book is another winner from Claire Hastings. I, for one, can’t wait to see what the next instalment in the Hayes Family series brings!
---
I liked the story of Margeaux and Gus, their first meeting was so sweet that even I wanted something like that to happen to me, she comes to work in his company and they meet again, there is not much drama with it which I appreciated, they were very domestic even when they had to hide so no one would know (outside their circle) that they were together, the little drama at the end seemed a little predictable and a little incoherent but otherwise, the two were cute together and it was good to return to this series and now I look forward to the next one!
📌 I received an e-arc, and this is my honest opinion/review of it.
This book was amazing!!! If I could give this book more than 5 stars I would. Every bill Claire Hastings puts out in this series I love more than the last book. I especially love that she pointed out my favorite show Top Gear!!! I love the small town feel this book and series gives. The family is hilarious and I enjoy their banter and how close they are to each other. This book is a contemporary small town romance. I thought the storyline was original, heartwarming and page-turning. I couldn’t put this book down until I reached the end and can’t wait to devour the next book in this series.
Margeaux is independent, loyal, witty and I loved her free spirit. I really felt s connection with her. I felt she was trying to prove something to her family. Gus was intense, determined and also just s as loyal as Margeaux. He was a swoony and I loved his attitude with his brothers and sister. I enjoyed the story of both characters romance and the trials and tribulations that went along with it. They were the perfect amount of angsty and spicy!!!
Another visit to Hickory Hills and another fun and entertaining read. This time it’s Gus and Margaux second chance to see if they are soulmates. Gus met a woman at an airport and believing they have a connection he gets her to write her number on his palm…well they didn’t work and the number was lost but now a year later she walks into Hayes Industries as the new lawyer . So will lines be crossed and will rules be broken as this couple get to know each other…one click now to find out. I was so excited to be back in Hickory Hills and I wasn’t disappointed. Feel it in the Air is a great addition to the Hayes Family Series, it has wonderful characters, it’s fun, it has camaraderie that only exists in families and more importantly it’s well written. Loved everything about this entertaining read.
As far as meet cutes go I loved Gus and Margeaux’s because it was full of witty banter that showed us that even just meeting there is something special about the tow of them and it sets the tone for the rest of their story. I loved how Gus was flustered when he couldn’t read her number on his smudged palm and how his family gave him such a hard time about it, so when Margeaux does come back in his life it makes it all that much more special. They share a connection that is real and intense, but with both of them being career driven things change when he becomes her boss. Knowing they shouldn’t cross the lines their chemistry is off the charts and can only be fought for so long until they can’t take it any more. This story has it all from the steam, amazing characters, family, and twists I didn’t see coming but was oh so glad to see a certain few get what they had coming.
Two people meet in a bar have a drink and hit it off. When it's time for one to leave a number is left to stay connected. One of them though messes up and smudges the number. Gus and Margeaux hit it off and you can feel the attraction from page one. After they part ways, their lives will move on, but they will think of each other often. When they come face-to-face again the sparks will fly. But she now works for Gus and well that is a no-no. As Gus fights everything he has to keep it professional things start to turn. What I loved about this story was that the passion in the pages pulled you in. I love that Gus has a woman who will put up with his grumpiness. I love the Hayes family and can't wait to see what's next.
My level of squeel at getting Gus and Margo's story was only slightly embarrassing. Aside from Hux, Gus' story has been the one I've been most excited for. A grumpy MC is one of my all-time faves. 🫠
What I wasn't expecting was to fall even more in love with Margo and her beautiful brain.. exactly like Gus will tell you.
We have been teased with their meet cute for many books now, and to get to read it all unfold truly was magical.
All I can say is that despite the town gossip train, I really wish I could live in the fantastic fictional world of Hickory Hills that Claire has created. Each new book is like a visit home, and I am forever grateful for it.
Margeaux is a law student working hard to get her degrees and on her way to making her dream job a reality. She is not following in her grandfather’s footsteps in the family restaurant business. He is a chef and is well know for his delicious creole cuisine.
Gus is the future holder of the keys to his families legacy. Hayes is a huge company with many divisions that span over many different businesses. The first of which were the shotguns his family smithed back many generations. His family home is a mansion that currently is a home for many of the employees of the Hayes family business.
This story was so good. I loved the chemistry between Gus and Margeaux. She is so smart and isn’t afraid to use her brain to work hard. Her specialty is in Patents and is really interesting.
This is the second book in this impressive series, and this is Gus and Margeaux’s story. These two meet in an airport bar, have a drink together, hit it off, and exchange numbers, but one of them smudges the number literally. Now a year later Gus is focused on running his family’s Fortune 500 company, when Margeaux arrives in town and is his new employee. This is a well written easy to read story which has family, friendships, emotions, angst, secrets, humor, witty banter, undeniable chemistry, and love, which leads to a spicy, and entertaining, small town romance. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
This is part of the Hayes family. Gus is the typical serious oldest sibling. He is known as the one in the family who never breaks the rules. In past family books we see him get teased about a smudged phone number. We finally get the story about the phone number and get to meet the woman who makes him want to break all the rules. Margeaux and Gus will leave you believing in fate and that some rules are made to be broken. You will also fall more in love with the Hayes family. I can’t wait to visit them again.
Back to Hickory Hills, GA for another Hayes family member we go! I love this family almost as much as I love this small town!! And we finally get to meet Gus’ airport mystery girl!! (Best meet-cute ever, BTW!!!) Margeaux is a fantastic, brilliant, beautiful lawyer & Hayes’ newest employee. Watching rule-following, responsible, oldest child & future CEO, Gus, sneaking around & losing all his self-control for the love of his love was so fun! Margeaux is the perfect match for Gus turning them into a power couple in the business world. And their bonus epilogue!!!!! Perfection! Go Dawgs!❤️🖤
I loved being back in Hickory Hills! The Hayes family and their friend group is one of my favorites, and I love seeing them fall in love. Gus and Margeaux were no exception. They were perfect for each other. Gus was focused and serious and the epitome of the oldest sibling. Margeaux was smart, driven, and fit perfectly into the Hayes family. Their chemistry was off the charts. I loved how they support each other and know exactly what the other needed. I loved their airport meet cute and of course I loved all the familial banter between the Hayes siblings. I can’t wait for more
I really love Gus and Margeaux they are the perfect match. Getting to know them and watching them fall for each other was a fun, entertaining read. If you enjoy… ✅ a grumpy hero who is caring, funny, and sexy ✅ a heroine who is intelligent, comfortable in her own skin, and sassy ✅ fun, family shenanigans ✅ a slew of characters you will love and some you will love to hate Then this is the book for you. It’s a great addition to the Hayes family series. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
