Commander Erwin has finally come to a decision: Putting their own wealth and position ahead of the survival of humanity, the royal government is no longer fit to lead. To execute their leader’s most audacious plan yet, Eren and Krista will have to put themselves in peril yet again, and Armin, Mikasa, and the rest of the Survey Corps will have to turn from humanity’s guardians into traitors. If they fail this time, they’ll face not a Titan’s gaping mouth, but the gallows…
Hajime Isayama (諫山 創 Isayama Hajime, born 1986) is a Japanese manga artist from Ōyama, Ōita. His first and currently ongoing serial, Attack on Titan, has sold over 22 million copies as of July 2013. He has mentioned Tsutomu Nihei, Ryōji Minagawa, Kentaro Miura, Hideki Arai and Tōru Mitsumine as artists he respects, but stated that the manga that had the biggest influence on him was ARMS.
That was intense and not what I was expecting. This series never fails to be twisty and full of surprises. The series has definitely shifted to much more of a conflict between humans as opposed to a titan conflict, but I'm not too mad about it because it's still really interesting and enjoyable. I loved how this volume made the lines between good and evil a little blurry. It gave me a lot to think about and at times I was even sick to my stomach because of some of the violence occurring from the "good" people. I can't wait to read the next volume soon.
So this one is a lot more talk, but man does the action pick up at the end. I can't wait to see how this battle turns out. I love Mikasa and Levi--even though he's a jerk--so I'm excited to see how they pull this off. The villain is really interesting too. I'm hoping we get a flashback into his past in the next volume. Onward it is.
What’s not to love in terms of a saloon shootout. Humans turn against each other, and the survey corps is in a real pickle We’re not good people anymore
Armin the great manipulator, I am starting to warm up to him: No, Armin’s always been good at thinking up insidious, underhanded plans. But Armin is far from the one who needs to take the most uncomfortable routes to get information from the other side.
I know your boss is a scary man but he’s not a bad guy feels overly optimistic as a verdict.
Whaaaat?!?! I swear, this series has the best (or should I say worst?) cliffhangers.
Great vol, as expected. I'm really enjoying the political aspect of the story in last few volumes, but I do wish that next one would have more action in it.
"So you like Attack on Titan and want more shocking revelations about the Wall and the Reiss family? Congratulations. We will now set aside all the relevant, Titan-related storylines and watch Levi and a serial killer have a shootout in a Wild West saloon. You're welcome, guys." -- Hajime Isayama
Things I like about Attack on Titan: • The anime’s theme song is incredible. I jam out to it while studying, walking the dog, cooking dinner, etc. • Those uniforms are a cosplayer’s dream. Been to a con lately? You’ll see enough Scout Regiment soldiers to fight off an actual titan. • Subversion of gender norms. • Erwin Smith is totally unphased by whatever hellish situation he finds himself in. Sometimes, when I need to appear powerful and confident, I impersonate Commander Erwin. Works surprisingly well.
Things I dislike about Attack on Titan: • Sadly, Goodreads reviews have a character count.
Actual storytelling in Attack on Titan is rare. Almost nonexistent. Like pandas. If you cut the inner monologues and panels of characters looking shocked, each volume would be four pages long. Did we forget a crucial exposition scene that explains what the heck is going on here? Oops! Just cram a flashback into the middle of the action! Important plotlines like the key in the Shinganshina basement... we'll just forget about that for ten volumes at a time. Plot progression in Attack in Titan is nonexistent, as each arc ends in a Pyrrhic victory and is then discarded.
On a similar note, let’s talk about some of those big reveals. Some (like the identity of the Female Titan) make absolutely no sense and have never been explained. Some (the identity of the Colossal and Armored Titans) are so ridiculous they made me laugh hysterically. Boom! He’s a titan! And she’s a titan! Everyone’s a titan! (To be sung to the tune of "Everything is Awesome" from the LEGO movie) How did Character X become a titan? What motivates Character Y to betray humanity? How are these human titans organized by brainless, man-eating lumps of flesh? And how did the Female Titan get from Wall Sina to the 57th Expedition without anyone noticing? Can she apparate? Are we actually inside the Wizarding World?
Attack on Titan might be meaningful if we saw actual characters. Instead... Eren has rage. Levi is tough. Erwin is cool. Armin is smart. Mikasa is so bland she might erase herself. It is impossible to get swept up in their struggles, to feel any sort of pain when they are devoured, because they are as simple and lifeless as the Titans themselves. When a major twist happens, my reaction is not shock but something like: "Christa…? She’s that chick who finds Jean’s horse, right? And Berthold? Have we ever seen him before? I think he might have said ‘Yes, sir’ somewhere during the battle against the Female Titan."
The anime has the same flaws, but it is freaking gorgeous. Sometimes their shots look like live action. Sometimes their shots look better than live action. So when everything in the anime goes to hell, just watch the pretty scenery. Not possible in the manga. On top of all the other flaws, it’s just sloppy. Compare Attack on Titan to, say, a volume by CLAMP. Warning: Attack on Titan will look like scribbles on a restaurant napkin.
I think it is my least favorite volume, as it doesn't feel like Attack on titan . It feels like some western action movie. The first part was good though. I didn't get the essence of this volume. Like, what is happening? Has everyone gone crazy?
. [image error] . . [image error] .
"humans turn into titans... titans turn into the walls... in this world full of miracles... my father doesn't seem so crazy for believing that..." :))))))
Story This is another volume that is both satisfying and frustrating at the same time.
I love all the politics and mystery behind the walls. We learn a lot more about the rich and a little more about the titans, but not nearly enough for my liking.
Most of the questions I've had since finishing the anime and picking up the manga still haven't been answered, though I'm far from bored with the story.
Artwork The artwork continues to be good, but not great. The action sequences do seem to be improving however.
that cover is everything, I mean putting the best trio on the cover? that is called art!!
finally, I reached Kenny and Levi's reunion!!! their fight is never getting old, also Levi you should team up more with Mikasa because both of you are great killers don't deny that boy......
Levi is being teased most of the time with his height and I am just wondering what if Dazai meets him or what if both Chuuya and Dazai meet Levi, Dazai will just advise him to drink milk and I don't know what will be Chuuya's excuse for Levi since he is already a grown-up😭
La trama si infittisce (giustamente, era tutto fin troppo semplice, no? 😂). Bello bello bello!
Now I feel like I'm reading Trigun again. And can somebody explain why all this is necessary to do BEFORE fixing the wall and getting to Eren's basement? Seems like this is all stuff that I might care more about after we learn all the important secrets.
And WTF is up with the monkey thing?!?!?! You can't just throw a giant talking monkey at me and not address it for two volumes!!!! Screw the political upheaval and scandalous murders and cover ups I wanna know about the gorram monkey!!!!
