Farmers of Goodrich County

The Farmer's Heartbeat : A Sweet Western Romance

Rate this book
He is rooted in the farm. She is pulled by a wider world.

Part One

Lifelong neighbours Greg Wells and Aggie Davis have always fit—best friends turned first love, with graduation close and a future that looks like sunrise over Goodrich fields. Greg sees a life they’ll build in the soil they both cherish. Aggie’s heart, though, beats to the rhythm of distant streets and untried chances.

When a family crisis sends Aggie to the city to care for her grandmother, distance widens more than miles. New opportunities beckon; old dreams tug her home. Greg waits, working the land and believing in the life they planned, while Aggie must choose between independence and the promise of the boy who knows her best.

The Farmer’s Part One is a sweet small-town prequel about first love, hard choices, and the ties that pull us toward the places—and people—we call home.

He trusts time. She trusts her gut.

Part Two

Four years later, Greg and Aggie are married, the farm is theirs, and a baby is on the way. Everyone calls their newborn “such a good baby.” Aggie hears something a silence that worries her, a distance she can’t explain. Greg believes it’s a phase. Aggie can’t shake the feeling their child needs more than patience.

Sleepless nights and frayed tempers turn into questions neither knows how to answer. To hold their marriage—and their family—together, they’ll have to listen bravely, seek help, and choose each other when it’s hardest.

The Farmer’s Part Two continues Farmers of Goodrich County, a sweet, clean small-town farm romance about courage, partnership, and loving a child exactly as they are.

Nice, moving, relatable story—the first half about two young people, a brokenhearted, spunky grandmother, and other involuntary trials; Aggie had to grow whether everyone else liked it or not. And it was hard for me to tell if she and Greg were really a good match for each other—I definitely liked her better than him—but they seemed happy and at home.

Then the second half depicted the events of their married life and their *spoiler alert* autistic kid. I’m glad came around to stop calling it “something wrong with him” even if what was happening was difficult indeed. The unexpected challenge definitely tested her and Greg’s relationship to see if it was up to par.

Overall, it was a pretty interesting and enjoyable story from Sharon Mitchell, and I’ll be interested in reading more from her!

This book is a breath of fresh air. It portrays a realistic look into the hearts and minds of teenagers/young adults trying to find themselves and also a glimpse of life raising an autistic child.

Greg and Aggie have lived on adjoining farms for years. He knows she’s the girl for him, they just click. She isn’t sure why he picked her and doesn’t know if life is going the direction she thought it would.

This is a two part book as they learn to communicate and work through life as it comes, including learning to accept, and nurture an autistic son. Along the road they both grow and mature as they navigate the highs and lows together.

This book is well written and grabs your heart. I recommend it to readers who want something different in romance.

A beautifully written story of friendship, love and heartbreak. Aggie and Greg have lived near each other all their short lives. What does the future hold for them, separate lives, marriage or who knows what will be.

Everyone should read this story. So many times we don’t address stepping stone but this author does. After their first child is born, his diagnosis changes life dramatically But the sequence of learning how to regroup, sharing and demonstrating love differently made this family a strong team

The first half of the book is basically a story of developing romance, which is easy reading…. The second half of the storyline takes place a few years later and they have a child with a developmental stage of autism and the strain of raising their child. This is probably a realistic scenario for parents to understand and accept. I’m concerned that it’s more common today than it’s ever been before, due to the multitude of “medications” that are injected into the bodies of so many innocent children. It’s criminal! We should put all of our trust in Jesus Christ. (1 Peter 2:24).
