Updated Review 10/20/25: I will never get over how selfless Brigitte is! Truly an awe-inspiring heroine!

Original Review 11/10/24: "You don't have to be angry. Even if you don't become Prince Joseph's retainer, that doesn't take away from how hard you worked to get here. You can be proud of that…!"

I will NEVER tire of a heroine who, for the majority of her life, has been talked down to, bullied, and ostracized but still chooses to help those around her, especially those who were the same people who were mean to her! Maybe that's something "cliche" for shoujo manga, but no matter how many times I read it, I find it so incredibly inspiring and admirable!

That is definitely what happened here in the opening chapter and got teary-eyed with the quote above because right after Brigitte was ridiculed, she still put herself in danger and stepped in to help the Class President. I was with Yuri that I really rather her go to him (Yuri) for help rather than put herself in harm's way, but it's also her courage that makes me love her character so much, so I don't know. LOL! I DO hope though that she won't be in any more danger, but with how Lisa has it out for Brigitte, I don't feel that things are going to go smoothly…

And speaking of, I CANNOT STAND JOSEPH!!!! He was bad in volume one but he is SOOOO much worse in this volume and want to be like Lisa, why the heck are you with him if you're SCARED of how he acts when you make him angry?! Such an unhealthy relationship and hope we don't see much of them next volume!

Past the opening chapter, I was THRIVING with all the sweet romance moments and need Brigitte and Yuri to just hurry up and get together!!! LOL! Yuri may be subtle in his feelings, but I have no doubts he knew what he was doing when giving that gift to Brigitte at the end!! EEEEEPPPP!!

There were definitely several other moments and revelations that I loved in this volume, but I will stop there because much of what I want to talk about is spoilers, but please know this is a worthy sequel that is just as good as volume one!! I'm overjoyed to know volume three comes out early next year because I will be picking it up and reading it!!

I'm enjoying this a lot. Brigitte and Yuri are a great match. Brigitte is kind and hardworking, and I just love Yuri's dry humor and subtle flirtations. Unsurprisingly, there's more to Brigitte's spirit than originally shown, so I'm eager to see what kind of power she has hidden from even herself.

Adorable and sweet, the title's rather misleading isn't it?

It's nice to see a good adaptation of the light novels coming out in Manga form. I think they've done a pretty good job and it's refreshing to see all the spirits visually. I do feel inspired to reread the light novels, since there's not very many volumes of the manga out yet. I think the third light novels do to come out soon, be good refresher for that I think...

This series is too freaking cute. I always love when the villainess gets the redemption story. And boy does this villainess get her redemption. I read the novels and now the manga is giving me so much joy! I can’t wait for the next one.

This manga is a delightful take on the villainess trope, bringing together two characters who are usually portrayed as antagonists and giving them a love story of their own. The dynamic between the main characters is one of the biggest highlights—there’s a natural chemistry between them, filled with witty banter, subtle romantic tension, and moments of genuine care.

The heroine, with her striking red hair and fiery personality, is an absolute standout. She isn’t a damsel in distress but a strong, determined character who refuses to be overshadowed. Her interactions with the male lead, a cunning yet charming villain, create a compelling and heartwarming romance. Unlike typical shoujo stories, this one gives both leads equal depth, making their relationship feel more balanced and engaging.

The art is another strong point—the elegant character designs, expressive eyes, and beautifully detailed outfits all add to the visual appeal. The soft yet vibrant coloring perfectly complements the story’s tone, making each panel a joy to look at.

Overall, If the Villainess and Villain Met and Fell in Love is a sweet, captivating read with lovable characters and stunning artwork. If you love strong heroines (especially ones with fiery red hair!) and a romance that develops naturally, this is definitely worth checking out.

I’m so happy that I continued reading this! Brigitte is such a great person, she’s kind and tries to work hard to achieve her dreams, and Yuri is caring and honest. I love that he cares a lot about Brigitte and the first thing he does is try to help her! Brigitte is so so kind that even when Nival was rude to her, she went to rescue him! I really don’t understand what’s Joseph’s problem, he just doesn’t leave Brigitte alone… it’s annoying

This is for fans of Kaguya-Sama and the villainess tropes for sure. It’s a very slow burn, and characters you love to hate but with spirits l!

In Summary

Brigitte’s latent powers save the day! Weirdly, it only earns her a somewhat improved social life and the heart of the class president. While these relational elements help push along the romantic arc between Brigitte and Yuri, it would be nice if the school and Brigitte’s family attempted to bring more insight on her mysterious contracted spirit.

The Review

Volume 1 ended with a cliffhanger as the class president’s contracted spirit goes on a rampage during class. The emergency sets up a situation where multiple things get accomplished. First, Yuri displays his feelings about Brigitte by running to her aid – no surprise there. Second, after all the hints Yuri’s undine dropped about Brigitte’s supposed no-name spirit, we get a glimpse of its true nature. Third–and most unexpectedly–Class President Nival goes from being Prince Joseph’s loyal tool to Brigitte’s earnest admirer. Seriously, he’s following Brigitte like a lovesick puppy throughout the latter half of the book.

I don’t believe the story is headed into reverse harem territory. Nor is Nival a realistic contender for a love triangle. His purpose seems mainly to give Yuri a reason to show his jealous side. Because even though Brigitte thinks Nival is simply a clingy friend, Yuri recognizes the other boy’s real feelings toward her and is not happy about it. Thus we get another character to make our couple’s romance arc more interesting, even if he isn’t a rival for Yuri. In the meantime, Brigitte is slowly but steadily falling for Yuri, though she would never admit it.

Developing that aspect of the story is all good and fine (this is a romance, after all), but I found it strange there wasn’t more conjecture about the display of Brigitte’s power, which her instructor described as “splendid, refined magic.” As a reader, I’m dying to know the true nature of Brigitte’s contracted spirit, and it frustrates me that the characters aren’t equally curious. Because this is only Volume 2, I realize the mystery’s probably going to drag a while longer. But you would think that after Brigitte quells a life-threatening incident, the school or her status-obsessed family would bother reevaluating her abilities.

Anyway, in rescuing her classmates, Brigitte decidedly takes herself out of the villainess category. But the one who firmly assumes that mantle is Lisa. She’s definitely the character the creators want you to hate, but her motivations are difficult to pin down. She’s certainly out to make Prince Joseph hers, yet at the same time, she’s frustrated that her attempts to charm Yuri into loving her haven’t worked. If she was scheming to pass herself off as a good girl, she blows the act by publicly deriding Brigitte. And she’s kinda stupid. I’m hoping that will be more substance to her, but for now she’s coming off as an emotional idiot.

Extras include the first two pages printed in color, bonus text story, and creator afterward.

I still liked Brigitte and Yuri’s dynamic. It’s not the most memorable thing I’ve read recently. I think I would have enjoyed it a bit more if I reread volume 1 before picking this up.
