A few weeks ago, when we contacted our steampunk compatriots and regular Tor.com bloggers to ask them if they wanted to contribute to Steampunk Fortnight, we got a lot of good ideas, but none quite as unexpected as one from the inimitable Eileen Gunn:
Four pieces of flash fiction, tuckerizing four people who donated to Clarion West’s Write-a-thon.
These are four very short stories written as an hommage to some of the great works of Steampunk. The protagonists are real people who contributed their names and biographical info as part of a fund-raiser for the Clarion West Writers Workshop. They work best for people who know the original stories: "The Difference Engine" by Gibson & Sterling, "Night of the Cooters" by Howard Waldrop, Perdido Street Station by China Mieville, and "Internal Devices" by KW Jeter.
