He didn't know which was harder: not falling for a woman who was off-limits, or protecting her from a madman…
Scarred from the brutal murder of her fiancé, former UN translator Lyssa Cafferty sleeps with one eye open. Now a serial killer is determined to finish what he started…and she's his next target. Desperate to survive, Lyssa seeks protection from the one man with knowledge of her past.
Noah Bradford, a cunning ex-marine, vows to protect Lyssa—along with the secret she keeps from her watchful predator. It soon becomes evident that Noah's growing attraction for Lyssa could distract him from his mission, but only together can they crack the cryptic messages of a killer. With time running out, it's uncertain who will come out unharmed—or alive.
I really enjoyed this book. Lyssa sucked me right into this story. She was hiding, and running from a madman, or shall I say a serial killer. After Archimedes killed Lyssa's husband, she went into witsec. Archimedes always found her. He was playing a very sick game. He wanted Lyssa, and was obsessed with her. When Lyssa's husband had been killed, she heard Arcimedes's voice but never saw his face. How can you hide from a person you've never seen? In every crowd she wondered if he was there watching her. Noah and a team of trained agents came to protect Lyssa. She didnt want anyone else to die, so she wanted to make herself bait. She wanted to run away from the agents that was sent to protect her. Noah was not going to let her leave his protection. I loved the friendship, and romance between the two. This book had an amazing plot, with gripping suspense, action, and romance.
Some of the other reviews mentioned that the villain was evil. They were right. He would kill as a sport. He also gave new meaning to the word O.C.D. He didn't want his hands to touch anything that had germs, but wouldn't hesitate to take a life. He was one of the worst villains that I've read about.
Wow! I have to say that I picked this book up not knowing what to expect, but I am sure glad that I did. Robin's writing not only kept me wondering what was going to happen next, it also kept me on my toes about what the outcome of the book should be.
While I wanted Lyssa to hang on to the love that she had for her now dead husband, I also wanted her to just fall in love with Noah and go live her happily ever after. So geesh, what is the right person to root for here, the love of her life that is gone or the love that has made her life worth living again?
Not to mention poor Noah has to deal with his own personal demons, and did I mention that he was best friends with the husband that was murdered? I know, it is so much to take in! Between wondering if the killer was going to find Lyssa, if she was going to make it out alive and trying to decide if she should love Noah I was left emotionally drained. I loved this book, and recommend it to anyone who loves a good story!
The story is intense and captivating, it took the hold of my interest from the first page and kept it to the very end. Let me start with the villain. I have to say he might just be one of the most evil, vile, and vicious bad guys I've ever read about. He made my skin crawl. He was the stuff nightmares are made of. He is not only evil, but also smart and brainy, scary combination. But he is not only brainy one in this story. Both Noah and Lyssa are brilliant and sharp. Noah is not only a bit geeky, he is ex-military, and caring, loyal, devoted, true. Yes, I completely fell in love with him. There was absolutely nothing not to love about Noah. Lyssa is strong, steadfast, and bright. She has had to make some terrible sacrifices in her life, to protect, and to survive. Together Lyssa and Noah are so perfect, a team. The attraction and love is so adorable, heartbreaking, touching, it brought tears into my eyes.
Absolutely loved this book!!!! However I was a teeny tiny bit disappointed since I'm crazy and I kind of wanted Alyssa and Todd to get together. I have no idea why. I just love the bad boys!!! But obviously I'm deranged so your book gets 5 stars from me!
The story is very clear from the beginning and you don't need lots of details to understand what goes on. The plot is really tense and there is action that left me breathless! There was no unnecessary drama or self doubt. It was a strong story really nicely said.
Lyssa is amazing character! She is down to earth and strong! I really like her!
Noah is also fantastic! He has a job to do and he tries to do it in the best way possible! I love his reactions and his way of thinking.
I really liked this book because there was a perfect balance among romance and suspense. The characters were strong and real. Even the vilain was really good in his nasty way! And there was a great epilogue!
The only negative point it was the introduction of the characters before the story started. I could have read the story without the introduction and I would have understand everything. Actually the introduction spoiled it a bit for me.
I will definetely suggest this book to everyone to read it!
Awesome, just awesome! Read the blurb, and read the book!!! Fabulous suspense, wonderful characters, the hero and heroine, Noah and Lyssa, go perfectly together, and the killer will make your skin crawl. The story is great, the characters are great; it’s a real suspense with a bit of romance. Everything feels real, it’s modern, intelligent and it’s as exciting as you can get. I hope it’s the beginning of a new series because I feel several characters should have their own stories. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this book! Thank you Ms. Perini for a great book!
In Perini’s romantic suspense novel, former UN translator Lyssa Cafferty sleeps with one eye opened since the brutal murder of her fiancé. Now a serial killer has targeted her and desperate to survive, Lyssa seeks out ex-marine Noah Bradford for protection. Thrown together, passion ignites between them causing a growing concern for the mission due to the overpower distraction it causes.. Working together, they must crack the cryptic messages of the killer if they have any hope of surviving.
A fast-paced energetic story revolving around passion and danger.
I really liked the concept of this book when I first started, but as I began I found the beginning to start out slower and didn't really pick up until closer to the end of the book. So much seemed to happen all at once towards the ending-though this did make for an ending that was a page-turner, and that made me fall in love with it. In my opinion, the ending was the absolute best part of this story; if not for liking the ending, I might have changed my rating, but as it is I think the story was worth reading just for the ending.
3.5 stars. A mystery/romance that was "steamless" but interesting. I liked the nerdy, geek main character and the story moved right along so there was no getting bored. There were some pretty graphic descriptions of killings by a serial killer, so if blood is not your thing you probably need to skip this one.
This book had me hooked from the first page. Lyssa has so much turmoil and Noah is just the right person to help. I had to keep reading to learn Lyssa's secret and wondered why a serial killer wanted her. great read.
The right length and very interesting characters. Romantic mystery. Military experience of characters added much to the story. The author has written numerous books but so far I have enjoyed them.
"A stalker, unrequited love, fire, explosions, terror and a psychopath — Perini pulls out all the stops for this one, and readers won’t want the tale to end" (RT Book Reviews). 4 1/2 stars TOP PICK!
Secret Obsession is one of the best Harlequin Intrigue Suspense I've read so far. I like to read more like that in future series and books from Harlequin.
UN translator Lyssa Cafferty is running from a serial killer who killed her fiancé and is now after her. She runs to seek protection from ex-marine Noah Bradford whom she knew in the past. The story development is exciting at every twist and turn.
