Bodyguard Mack McCann gave up on his quiet life in Colorado to protect a tabloid darling. Hope Minnow had been marked for death—unless Mack had his way. He'd stick by her side to make sure she didn't stray too far, though Hope had learned long ago how to give unwanted suitors the slip. But what secrets was she trying to hide? Mack was smart enough not to believe everything the public said about Hope, but she sure didn't like being under his scrutiny. He had to take control of the situation somehow. And with an admirer watching and waiting for the perfect opportunity to give Hope the kiss of death, he had to do it soon.
Yikes. This piece of crap wasn't the best choice when it comes to breaking a reading drought.
Hope Minnow is the daughter of a famous televangelist. Somebody makes threats against her, so her father brings in Mack McCann to be her bodyguard.
I don't know why it's called Stalked, because Hope is barely stalked. Hardly anything even happens! Let's Talk About Food And The Other Characters In The Mini-Series is perhaps a more appropriate title. Exactly the pet peeves I had about the last book I read, the utterly awful and pointless "The Wharf" by Carol Ericson. I'm sorry, but if you want to convince me your h and H are falling in love, they need to talk about more than what they're eating and what the other characters in the mini-series are up to!!! Is is that hard?!?!?
Hope was a good character, and her relationship with her father had some shades of complexity. Beverly Long at least wraps up the plot and explains everything.
But it was completely lacking in any sort of thrills or suspense (a molotov cocktail thrown at a building and a bullet fired into a shop are the only things that happen), and the romance didn't convince, because they never talked about anything other than food and other people.
STALKED is the second book in the 'Men From Crow Hollow' series. Each story was about one of three close friends who eventually met his soul mate but not before jumping hoops to save her. They are short novels of light romantic suspense. I intended on reading HUNTED (Book 1) after I finished this story but Ms. Long gave away the identity of the villain in STALKED.
Mack McCann was hired as a bodyguard to protect Hope Minnows, the daughter of a tele-evangelist. Someone had a vendetta against her but she didn't know why. This was a fairly predictable story but still managed to be entertaining. Just remember to read them in order if you don't want to learn who the villains are ahead of time.
Mack is a Navy guy who has left the service and is taking some time off before he starts his new job. A former commander and friend contacts him and asks if Mack will spend a couple weeks acting as bodyguard for his goddaughter. There have been some threats made against her and Bing wants someone he can trust to look out for her.
Hope is known for being a party girl, in spite of her tv evangelist father. She is sure that the threats against her are something that her father has come up with for the publicity. She'll tolerate Mack's presence if she has to, but she'll also do her best to give him the slip.
There are sparks between Hope and Mack from the beginning. Hope notices Mack's good looks and hot body, but after a disastrous marriage she has no intention of getting involved with another man. Mack definitely notices Hope's beauty, but her reputation is one that should be a turn off to him. But within a few hours of beginning his duties as bodyguard, he's seeing a whole different side of Hope than he expected. And that side of her is definitely appealing. I loved seeing her open up to Mack about the things that had changed her life and made her who she was. I loved seeing them grow closer as Mack sees the real Hope under the facade that she shows the rest of the world. I also found Mack to be pretty sweet as he takes caring for Hope to a level she never expected.
The suspense was good as Hope went from total disbelief to seeing the danger she was in. I had my suspicions about who was behind the trouble, but there were also times when things didn't add up. There were several twists and turns made it seem that the problem was solved, but then something would happen that cast doubt on whether or not it was over. The final confrontation was pretty intense and I enjoyed seeing Mack not just save Hope but also find a future just right for both of them.
2.5 stars.
It has been entertaining. I liked the story but it would have been better without so much melodrama in the family, if at the end, this family melodrama would had been fixed,, if the mystery had not been so convoluted and unbelievable and also solved in two lines and mostly without the shadow of the during all the romance, because at the end, although the relationship between the main characters was very good, everything revolves around a and the lessons of morality that the author, unfortunately, decides to give us. A pity because it is the kind of story that I like, but there has been too much interference.
If you like action with romance, then this book is a must read. I love it! Archie Minnow hired Mack to protect his daughter Hope. He was a famous pastor. He started getting threaten letters basically saying Archie had caused this guys son to die, so the man was going to take Hope away, to teach him the pain of losing a child. Archie hired the body guard, then took off for 10 days taking his wife, Hope's mother to Hawaii. Mack was good at his job. He thought he was being paid to protect a spoilt rich socialite. Mack found out he was wrong about Hope. She was nothing like what he had envisioned. She helped women get back on their feet after a divorce. Hope had a heart of gold. I love her character throughout the book. The more time Mack spent around Hope the more he realized that he was falling in love with her. Hope didn't take the threats seriously until someone shot at her. I loved how Mack protected her. Mack also did a bit of investigating to find out who wanted to hurt Hope. I loved the suspense, and action. I was left surprised at the end, on who was behind it. Great book. This one is going on my favorites list.
I enjoyed reading this very quick read, but I can't stand when characters get pregnant from having sex once and then are obsessed with possible pregnancy for 50 pages. Little cliche, along with wanting to get married after knowing someone a week. Otherwise entertaining and had a good plot twist for who was behind the kidnapping. I would read other titles by this author I enjoyed the writing style.
Great read as I was brought into this well developed plot. Another enjoyable read by this author, Beverly Long. I encourage more readers to enjoy her style of spinning intrigue and romance.
Stalked by Beverly Long is a suspenseful read that will keep you intrigued from the very beginning.
Mack and Hope are put into a situation that neither one finds appealing. Mack must act as Hope’s bodyguard and keep her safe. Of course Hope doesn’t believe she needs a bodyguard and tries to dodge him at her earliest chance, only Mack knows what he’s doing and can’t be dodged that easily. This is a good thing because it tuns out Hope does need protecting.
Mack is a strong character, who steps into his Alpha protective role with ease. Not much of a hardship to him, since Hope is easy on the eyes. Hope is more than a pretty woman though, she’s smart, generous, and caring. What she does with her free time is inspiring and only adds to her strengths. Once Mack realizes Hope is more than what she appears, all bets are off and the attraction between them heats up.
The suspenseful scenes were exciting, the romance was steamy, and the secondary characters added to the depth of the story. The author added a few twists and turns at the end that completely surprised me, to where the “bad guy” was someone who I would have never guessed. I just love when a story surprises me like that.
Overall, this story was enjoyable and anyone who enjoys suspenseful romance will definitely enjoy this book.
Thank you so much for the opportunity to read and review this book. I look forward to receiving it and will update my review asap the cover of the book looked kind of like one of the trashy romance novels my mother normally reads, needs a much better image
it was a pretty typical know the storyline before finishing the story, predictable story, a fairly nice short read.though pretty predictable unfortunately. i hope to pass it on to my mother for christmas and see if she enjoys it more than i did.
In Long’s romantic suspense novel, bodyguard Mack McCann sacrificed peace and quiet for media darling Hope Minnow. Hope has picked up a stalker and while she’s not thrilled to have Mack tailing her, she’s frightened enough to put up with it—within reason. Mack is sharp enough to keep up with her antics and smart enough not to believe everything he’s heard about her. As the stalker draws closer, Mack is forced to tighten the reins of his libido to keep Hope safe and out of harm’s way.
A solid addition to The Men from Crow Hollow series.
When Hope's Dad hired Mack as a bodyguard to protect her, she didn't think she needed one. Family had been getting treats, but Hope didn't believe them. Finally agreed to allow Mack to stay, so her Mom not be worried.
But things begin to happen. Could Mack keep Hope safe, but what about him getting too close? Enjoyed the book, really didn't turn out like I had expected. But nice sometimes, not to be able to guess the ending.
Mack McCann is hired to protect Hope Minnow. Hope is the daughter of a TV minister with a huge congregation. Someone has been sending her father letters threatening Hope's life. Mack is trying to find the person sending the threats. In the meantime, he finds himself falling love with Hope. Good story.
I liked how the book was more focused on progressing the story than on multiple sex scenes. It kept me guessing. Good read. Got this as a free book from publisher.
