She never expected a marriage of convenience to give her everything she ever wanted…love, family, happiness. But a threat from her past could change everything.
When Addison Wentz agreed to a marriage of convenience, she thought it was a reasonable, rational decision. After all, her new husband was already a friend of sorts. He’s also kind, respectful—and a badass Navy SEAL with excellent health insurance, which she desperately needs for her 12-year-old daughter, Ellory. In exchange for coverage, she’ll help Ricky foster three small children from the Ukraine. But just a month into their arrangement, Addison also discovers that Ricky’s sweet, supportive, a wonderful father to all four kids…and the sexiest man she’s ever met. Suddenly, she’s in danger of doing the one thing not allowed in her falling in love with her husband.
Ricardo “MacGyver” Douglas thought his fake marriage was a win-win. Addison got healthcare for her daughter, and he got a mother for the three children he hopes to adopt. Never in a million years did think he’d be lucky enough to choose the one woman who’s actually perfect for him in every way. Addison’s an amazing mother, a savvy businesswoman, a supportive Navy wife…and she turns him on with a single glance in his direction. The ink’s barely dry on their marriage license before there’s no longer anything “fake” about his feelings for his new wife. But how to convince her that he wants to change their arrangement into something very real?
Addy and MacGyver are barely beginning to explore what could be, when her past rears its ugly head, bringing a little more chaos into their lives…and attempting to break up their newfound family for good.
**Protecting Addison is the 5th book in the SEAL of Alliance Series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings.
New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal Bestselling Author, Susan Stoker has a heart as big as the state of Tennessee where she lives, but this all American girl has also spent the last fourteen years living in Missouri, California, Colorado, Indiana, and Tennessee. She's married to a retired Army man who now gets to follow her around the country.
I honestly wish I would stop reading books I wait months for in one day!
This book had me hooked from the very first chapter, well actually I was hooked to this book from the previous one in the series where you meet most of the characters.
The book was a 'forced proximity/marriage of convenience', but it was not dragged out. The action was a bit less than what I am used to in Susan Stoker books. But it still satisfied that action romance vibe I was looking for.
Ricky/ MacGyver is my favourite SEAL in the SEAL of protection series so far.
Once again, I always enjoy getting an update on what is happening to my retired SEAL Team friends! Dude and his Dom vibes always gives you all the best feels!
Love MacGyver & his instant family: 3 adopted orphans from a mission and his new wife & daughter. “Fake marriage” that never feels fake. No internal angst in their relationship, or family for that matter. Just a few blue balls in the outset.
Protecting Addison is the next book in this series, which I am absolutely loving🙌
MacGyver returns from the Ukraine with three kids. He promptly marries Addison so that she can help with them but also so her daughter who has a chronic disease can benefit from his military health care. But both want more than a platonic relationship😊
When Addison’s past comes knocking just as they begin to explore the “more” that they both want…Will it bring them closer or tear apart the family they are trying to build?😢
So good…I can’t wait to read Bree and Kelli next❣️
MacGyver and Addison - a marriage of convenience for the sake of 3 orphans from Ukraine and Addison’s daughter who needs constant medical care. These two fall fast. They make a terrific family. But Addison’s ex comes into the picture and he’s a monster. They just don’t know it yet.
Another page turner about the NAVY SEALS you can’t help but fall for. Admire. And swoon over.
I listened to the audiobook as I do now with all of Susan’s books and highly recommend.
Once again, I am blown away by Susan Stoker's empathy and understanding of her character's psyche!
Susan Stoker is a one-click author of mine for many reasons. However, her understanding and empathy for the men and women characters she creates stand out beyond my other reasons. Her characters are so well-developed, their character evolution so relatable, and their stories so believable, I feel Susan is my kindred spirit. Susan Stoker has lived the life of a military wife waiting for her soulmate to return from a mission. She understands her warrior's need for control, his alpha protector mode, and how her presence can keep the nightmares from destroying the love. Susan Stoker is one of us, the military spouses, who keep the home fires burning so their other half can do their jobs- protect and keep us free. I especially think Susan Stoker demonstrates her incredible love for the military community in Protecting Addison, the fifth book in the SEAL of Protection: Alliance series.
The previous book, Protecting Maggie, set the stage for Ricky (McGiver) and Addy's love story. Protecting Maggie was pure Susan Stoker military suspense, one action-packed adventure from beginning to end, interspersed with chili-hot romance. But in Protecting Addison, the romance, not the mission and suspense, takes the lead. I loved how Susan portrayed how love can still persevere in the chaotic environment of a large family's life. The romance between Addy and Ricky was a slow-burn, but the anticipation of what their attraction could become reminded me of the first time I visited Yellowstone and waited in a large crowd for Old Faithful to erupt! When Addy and McGiver finally let go of their inhibitions, steam exploded, and almost burned the hand holding my Kindle!
My favorite part, however, came towards the end of the story. Addy is berating MacGyver for putting himself between Abby and his daughters and a murderous villain firing a gun. I won't spoil it further, but Ricky's response was classic:
" You married a protector," he told her seriously, "I'll protect my teammates, their families, my country, and anyone else who needs it to the best of my ability. But you? And my children? I will go to the ends of the earth to make sure they have everything they need... and I will always, always stand between danger and those I love." That statement, the same vow my Special Ops made the day we got married, melted my heart, brought tears to my eyes, and is why I love this book and the entire SEALS of Protection: Alliance series so much!
Experience for yourself why Susan Stoker is an award-winning author. Read Protecting Addison (but it is best to read the series in order, so you should probably start with Protecting Remi!)
I loved, loved this military romance, it had the perfect balance of humor, heartwarming love, real life issues, danger, and spice. This heart warming story includes two strong, intense, and passionate main characters who are real, relatable people who have flaws and make mistakes, but are really just trying to just do their best being messy humans. Addison is a single mom to 12 yo Ellory who has Crohn’s disease. Ricky is a Navy Seal. While on his last mission, Ricky bonded with three Ukrainian orphans, 5 yo Yana, 7 yo Borysko and 8 yo Artem and ended up returning to the states with them hoping to adopt. Addison and Ricky are sort of friends and they agree to a marriage of convenience - Ricky gets a mom for his three kids for a better adoption chance and Addison gets health care to help Ellory. Of course, feelings rarely stay in the box they’re assigned to and fake quickly becomes real for the newlyweds and their blended family. To get to their HEA they’ll just need to deal with unexpected danger along with very real feelings in their fake marriage. The four kids - Ellory, Yama, Borysko and Artem - were such wonderful and integral additions to the story rather than a flimsy story prop. The story would not have been as rich and well rounded without the full development and inclusion of their characters. Addison and Ricky’s love story includes sweet moments, spice, danger, suspense, painful pasts, strong friendships, swoons, and laughs. Expect to feel all the things - fear, love, anger, redemption, tears, joy, and so much all encompassing, nurturing, protective love. Susan Stoker is a master at balancing a story of romance, danger, and personal growth. And while most of us will never be in the dangerous situations the main characters are a part of, the author nevertheless makes who they are as people so relatable and real that it is easy to fall in love with them. I cannot wait to hear what happens next for the men in Seal of Protection: Alliance series.
This one was very sweet. Addy and Ricky knew each other and felt comfortable enough that the marriage of convivence for both of them was a smart choice. It was fun to see them get to know each other more, to see the feelings change and for them to explore them. Just as fun was to see them as parents. Ricky had the most to learn, but he was so good with all the kids and I loved how he took time to get to know Ellory and teach her things she wanted to learn.
There were some bumps along the way, like when CPS had their heads up their asses and hurt what this new family was building. Happily Tex was there to get them on the right path again. The other huge bump was when Ellory's bio-dad turned back up and what a POS he was. It was interesting that everyone saw how awful he was. You knew it was just a matter of time before Ellory wouldn't give him the time of day. He saw that too and made a big move that would get him what he wanted, no matter what. Things were crazy there, I was glad that calm heads prevailed and it all ended good. Nice to see this family ready for only happy times ahead.
PROTECTING ADDISON (SEAL of Protection Alliance Book 5) by Susan Stoker and it's another good book that she has written. Just when you're thinking everything is going to work out for the couple, they're hit with one after the other bad disaster, but I thank goodness the author always ends her books HEA! You just have to get there!
Ricardo “MacGyver” Douglas has brought 3 orphans' home from Ukraine because they had helped save him & plus team members to survive, and he'd not leave any of them there alone. He had met Addison “Addy” Wentz and her preteen daughter, Ellory. She was in dire need of help because her daughter had a chronic illness and Ricky had good health insurance and 3 kids who needed a mom. What starts out as a marriage of convenience is a marriage of true love. They both are great devoted parents to their 4 children. He'd be the best father he could be. The best husband & treat her with respect & love. He loved when she called him by his childhood nick-name Ricky. Addison had never had a nickname, but Ricky called her Addy! Don't think this is just a love story, because there are some dark parts. All is well that ends well!
A real humdinger! In the previous book in this series, we know that Ricky (MacGyver) Douglas brings home three small children from his last mission in Ukraine. He bonds instantly with the tough little siblings in the war-torn remains of their hometown. He knows immediately that he wants to ask his friend Addison to marry him for convenience. Addison will gain his health insurance for her chronically ill pre-teen daughter, and in return she will help him care for the three Ukrainian children until the adoption is approved. Of course, they both are in love with each other but don’t say right away! I loved the day-to-day story we’re given a peek at of Ricky and Addy trying to manage three elementary school kids trying to assimilate into a safe environment while handling the chronic illness of Addy’s daughter. And becoming a solid family along the way. When Addy’s baby daddy shows up, wanting to get acquainted with her daughter after 12 years, everyone’s radar goes off, and they’re right! Trouble’s a-brewing, and the ensuing battle left me with tears in my eyes. Well done, Susan Stoker!
Great marriage of convenience. Another awesome book by Susan Stoker
Addison and MacGyver have a marriage of convenience and have known each other casually for only a little bit. But a month into the marriage here is no sex or kissing or anything but they both are starting to have feelings. MacGyver is more of a dad to Ellory than her biological dad who took off when we was a month old and now has showed up twelve years later. But why does he really want to be in Ellory's life? But the family is also dealing with the other kids being taken away from them by social services to "investigate" something. I don't think I have ever heard Tex this mad and wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of it. Then when Ellory and Yana are signed out of school by her biological dad even though he is not on approved list for his own financial gain, the whole SEAL community is called out to help search for them. Will they be able to find the girls before it is too late? Will Ellory be able to find a way to escape where the are?
I HATE when kids are targeted, and when it is their own flesh and blood that is using them, it's vile and makes my blood boil. Parents are supposed to love and protect unconditionally....forever. Having said that El and Yana are amazing, and yes Ricky and Addy have had a huge part in that, but the girls are amazing in their own right, strong, smart, determined and so brave despite their young ages. I love that they manage to MacGyver their own escape - little heroes! I really, really love that Ricky and Addy finally admit their feelings and embrace the chemistry that explodes between them, they are two fantastic people, protectors, nurturers and teachers, their arms are "safe" places for their kids. They have the biggest hearts, offer encouragement without judgement and love with their whole heart. I look forward to Bree's book, she is an unexpected hero here but it shows us she is perfect for Smiley and the Alliance family.
Whew! This story is awesome! Of course I was intrigued by MacGyver - his namesake is still one of my favorite characters (both the original and reboot of the TV series)! And the adventure in Preacher & Maggie's book that set the stage for Ricky & Addy... perfect!
I love the way their marriage progresses, the affection & love Ricky & Addy have for each other & their kids. I love the bonds that grow in their family. Ellory's just as much of a BA as any member of the team & her openness with Ricky is fantastic. I very much enjoyed the large part all four kids play, the page time they're given. This is definitely MacGyver's story, a romance between him & Addison, but it's ALSO about their family. ❤️
So, we get quite the adventure, quite the 🔥🔥🔥, and possibly the most diabolical villain in this author's wheelhouse so far. Whew!!
I loved this story of Addison and Ricky (MacGyver)!! It started as a marriage of convenience. She needed healthcare for her daughter. He needed help to adopt three siblings from Ukraine. The friendship and attraction were there. As time goes on, they grow closer and the attraction ignites. Addison's ex, and Ellory's biological father, comes into the picture. He is a horrible person that causes nothing but trouble. I love the relationship between Addison and Ricky and also between Ricky and Ellory, Addison's daughter. Addison is also so good with the kids they are adopting. There little family is chaotic and amazing. I loved this book and series! I couldn't put it down. I highly recommend! I can't wait for Flash's story. But I really can't wait for Smiley and Bree's story!!
Addison and MacGyver. It is their story, but so much more as we get to see them become a family with the three kids saved in the last book and Ellory, Addisons daughter from a previous relationship. The danger is local and immediately known as the story shows his POV as well. All the teams significant others plus Wolfs team and significant others are liberally part of this story and family’s path. Tex has a verbally colorful and impactful moment which made me love him even more , which I didn’t think was possible. We get a brief but major glimpse into Bree, her brave and strong character, and her path towards Smiley. Then we also get to touch base with all the team and their upcoming plans! A great read that was quick, easy, and fun with all the characters.
Protecting Addison is yet another marvelous addition to the SEAL of Protection, Alliance series. You are going to love Ricardo "MacDyver" Douglas AKA Ricky. He is so tender, warm hearted, protective and nurturing. He struck all the right notes for me. His marriage to Addison Wentz may have started out as one of convenience for both of them but the attraction and draw is there. Acting on it is only a matter of when not if. Their four children are thriving because of the love and guidance being showered upon them by both Ricky and Addy. There are hiccups along the way but trust Tex to have them handled with his usual speed and efficiency. When a scary and dangerous situation arises it's MacGyver's strong influence and teachings that save the day. Great reading start to finish.
Brilliant narration from Savannah Richards, Ryan West and Noel Harrison each one brings the emotions, drama and suspense to ears.
Addison and MacGyver have been married for a month, it is a marriage of convenience. No sex or kissing, each would like to change that, but just not have the courage to say so. MacGyver or Ricky has been more of a dad to Ellory than her biological dad ever was. Both have are brilliant to the orphans Yana, Artem and Borysko. With social services taking away the three orphans but Tex steps in. But it is Ellory’s biological dad is the true villain. One thing is the Seal family is a strong one and all of them get into the fight.
Drama, action, steamy, chemistry, humour and great characters.
Serie consigliatissima
An Amazing read that l would Highly Recommend by Susan Stoker! Mc Guyver and Addison are both determined that what began as a marriage of conven̈ience wouldn't stay that way but something needed to happen to break the ice. Then to top a series of stressful situations it happens. To top it off, just as they start to relax Addison's ex, Brady shows up saying he wants to be part of Ellorys life, too late they find he has other reasons and its All hands up to find Ellory & Yana who are missing as their warning arrives just a little too late. But it's also with some unexpected help they may find safety. But at what cost. Highly Recommend this book to Anyone & Everyone who wants a damn good Read.. 🌹
Another fun ride from Susan Stoker. Ricky (Macgyver) and Addison had a modern day arranged marriage - help taking care of three foster kids in exchange for Macy insurance for Addison’s chronically ill daughter. What started as a practical arrangement quickly started morphing into something more. The attraction between Ricky and Addison built quickly, they each became attached to the kids, and they started being a family.
Addison’s past comes back, and the SEALs come together to help save the day. It’s always so fun to see the bond not only between each military team but the wider SEAL family. And appearances from Tex are always the best. Can’t wait to see what the next one in the series brings!
The ability of this authour to conjure up bad guys and their motives in frightening good! This one, these guys, they terrified me on so many levels. And some larger arcing events that happened, that story is going to be epic when it releases. There were a couple of plot points in this story that drew me away from it. One was never explained, one seemed out of character for a protector, and one seemed out of character for a caring parent. The development of all the relationships though, that was the shining core of this story. Not the danger, not the confusing pieces, but how these individuals bonded and became a loving family <3
Susan is simply the mistress of lulling you into a false sense of security. for lots of chapters I experienced a wonderful warm feeling of love and romance, best friends, family and loyalty. then as the wonderful narrators continued, sinister characters emerged and the suspense started. just love the way susan creates a world of everything I want in a book. characters from other books make the story even better and the way real life topics align with people in the book is what Ms Stoker is a master at. just thrilled with fiesty but gentle Addison and the ever loving alpha Ricky. can't wait for the next one.
Loved it! MacGyver & Addie were such wonderful, likable characters--and both were super protective. I loved the kids! They were meant to be a family, even if they all came together in an unexpected way. My only critique was that the kids were such wonderfully fleshed-out characters, who each had their own conflicts to overcome, that the romance between Mac & Addie got a little short-changed. They went from friends to all-in as a couple without the delicious build I'm used to seeing in Ms. Stoker's books. It was a great story--I just wanted a little more of the romance. (And poor Bree--I can't wait until Smiley tracks her down and saves the day!)
A suspenseful and gripping story that will keep you glued till the end!! A marriage of convenience between Addison and Ricky aka MacGyver happens when Ricky comes back from Ukraine with 3 foster kids!! With Addison in need of medical insurance for her daughter, she agrees to the marriage but in no time this marriage becomes very real. The past tries to come back and split them up but with the seals help to stop the danger and their love grows!! Grab this book and enjoy the journey this couple must go through to get their HEA!!
A marriage of convenience for MacGyver and Addison started as a way of providing insurance for Addison's daughter and a female lead for the Ukrainian kids MacGyver saved. Things change quickly when feelings be one involved and they find themselves as a found family: a bunch of small parts and persons coming together to form a unit. I loved that this author wrote about the realities of surviving a chronic illness and how living with it does not make her less of a person, but more of a hero.
Likeable characters and a satisfying story. I basically skipped the parts spent with the bad guy once I got the gist of what flavour of evil this one was. Saved me a lot of aggravation! I also skimmed past the sex scenes because those are usually TMI anyway. I especially liked the parts where the kids used what they learned from their stepdad to help with their own rescue. Could have done without the teaser chapter at the end, but at least it was just a teaser and not a cliffhanger, so thanks for that!
I really loved this story. MacGyver and Addison were so perfect together and worked almost seamlessly to establish a home for all of them. Taking on the kids he found on his mission as well as a chronically ill teenager could have resulted in lots of friction, but instead they created a real family for all of them and, of course, fell in love in the process. When danger came to find Ellory, his team, Tex and Wolf’s team and even an unexpected person came to help, but his new daughter found a way to help herself and Yana, making them all proud. Just an awesome story!
Another amazing read for an amazing series. Love this Seal Team and how they consider the team their family. Love how MacGyver found Addisson and Ellory. Love that Yana, Artem and Borysko are able to stay together as siblings but have found parents in Addison and MacGyver. Such a compelling storyline. Lots of action. Lots of love. Lots of hot and sexy times. Can't wait for the next installment of Seals of Protection Alliance Series.
Book 5 in this series is MacGyver and Addyson’s story. Addison is a single mom with a 12 year old daughter with Crohn’s disease. MacGyver is a seal who wants to adopt 3 orphans from the Ukraine. What’s started as a marriage of convenience became a real one quickly. They both loved all the children. Ellory’s biodad shows up to cause drama. He kidnaps the girls to sell them. The seals go into action and everyone is saved. HEA is had by everyone.
