He’s got a serial killer plotting his demise, CI Quinn on his case, and two crazed Pomeranians nipping at his heels … time for a nice round of golf then.
Naturally, there’s a body in the clubhouse just waiting to be discovered and with the list of suspects growing, Mike soon wishes he chosen a safer sport, like chainsaw juggling, perhaps.
General Trout had a fatal appointment with the business end of a nine iron and those around him all appear to have both motive and opportunity. Did they all really want him dead? No one seems in the least bit upset, except for the general himself, whose ghostly figure now haunts the greens every night as the sun sets over the eighteenth hole.
Will General Trout's spirit haunt the club until someone brings his killer to justice? Or are reports of these ghastly sightings a ruse to throw Mike Atwell off the scent?
Mike and his team are on the case. Can they solve it with the help of some local experts in things paranormal? Or do these strange happenings have a more earthly cause?
Mike Atwell book 3 . I was so looking forward to reading and it totally exceeded expectations. Of course I knew I was in for a treat, not quite ice-cream though that was neat. ..Mike , Mike you can’t even take a leisurely hike on the fairways and green without finding yourself at the watering hole rather green. A dead body just waiting to be discovered. General Trout it seems was clouted by an iron , they’re at a golf house so it’s safe to say it’s the type you use on the fairway. And not to press….Anyway I digress.. there’s a list as long as eighteenth hole , which is quite apt as that’s now one of his haunts and it’s the club members he taunts. So is this really the ghostly apparition or a sinister decision by the killer to throw them off their deliberations and the answers they seek? The team must work together and three heads are well better than two now they have Mel on the team too. His ex wife is coming into her own and has merits and discredits on any given day . It keeps him on his toes and if he was honest , he wouldn’t have it any other way. Brilliant writing as per. Well what do you expect with these pair and their mighty pens. And those descriptions make perfect sense .The cryptic clues and the drawing us in , to take us on a journey from where they begin, throwing little snippets of information in now and then. The characters are amusing and masters of their craft , even though sometimes they act a little daft.
There are things I have liked about this book and the Mike Atwell series overall. They are entertaining. I like the characters. On the negative side, there is something about the Mike-Sharon relationship that doesn't work for me. I'm not sure exactly why and don't plan to spend my time trying to figure it out. Another negative factor is how much I have always hated books that build up a big unresolved cliff hanger right at the end. This is not the first series I've given up on for that very reason. If the author feels the need for a hook of that nature to get readers to go for the next volume, it doesn't say much for the confidence they have in the book.
I really enjoy reading the adventures Mike Atwell and his team go through and Death on the Nineteenth is another easy read, full of mystery and many laughable passages as they discover leads and pursue them to find the culprit. Mike's health is not so good and he needs care which will be provided by his ex-wife (and his true love) Sharon blurring the lines between what is professional and personal. Why was the General killed at the golf course? Was it murder? Death of natural cause? What are the motives? Very entertaining! I thank the author for this ARC.
I like the way this series is developing. A new case or two in each book while an on-going saga relating to an old case winds its way through this and the previous book.
Unfortunately I only got half-way through the previous book (Death of an ice cream salesman) before the digital library took it away and now I can't get it back (no idea why).
However, this series is proving to be a mix of cosy crime and police procedural and I am quite enjoying it. I listened to the audio version of this.
I have always enjoyed the Mike Atwell character, and this second book in the series just proves why. Smart, yet sometimes dumb about certain things, he has surrounded himself with a good team to help in his P-FBI business. (That's the Patricia Fisher Bureau of Investigation.) One being his ex wife. That's where the dumb often comes to play. People can be obtuse when it comes to relationships. Anyway, another hit with me, especially since I love golf.
I really enjoyed this Mike Atwell mystery. This mystery had a lot of twists and turns that kept me guessing. The constant spats between Sharon and Mike are becoming a tad tedious for me. I hope they can work out the issues so the detective business can work more smoothly.
Mike Atwell and crew have their hands full needing to solve the death of General Trout who was killed by a nine iron on the 19th hole. Will the General forever haunt the club or will Mike uncover the killer? Highly Recommended.
This eclectic team from the P-FBI (Patricia Fisher Bureau of Investigation) is really gaining traction in this,, third book in the series. Fun characters and the usual Steve Higgs humor, this is a fun read.
What can I say about this writing partnership - the books are clever, intriguing, draw you into the story so you feel part of the team and always leave you wanting the next book quickly! So much to look forward to and unanswered questions to be resolved.
A posh golf resort is the scene of the latest murder. While trying to find out who killed the head of the club, the P. FBI crew discover that someone is stalking the crew.
Death on the Nineteeth, A Mike Atwell Mystery Book 3 (Mike Atwell Mysteries)
Took me a while to get into, but then it turned into a good read, everybody in it has been fleshed out now. Looking forward to next story. Good cliff hanger.
Tough Case To Crack Mike Atwell and his investigative team have to use everyone's ingenuity to get this case solved. The stakes are high and the rewards are really great for the team should they succeed. I love all the sleuthing and hijinks. Mel is a great addition to the team. Hopefully Mike and Shaz can resolve their differences and boost their team to the professionals they aspire to be. Loved it!
