I will unashamedly admit that I devoured this poetry collection WAYYY to quick. I had the honor to read this as an ARC reader, and I am so pleased to have had this collection in my hands as soon as I did. firstly, the dedication had me sobbing before I even started reading the poetry (which is always a good sign) secondly, the little artsy features on each page I absolutely ADORED. It absolutely gave the vibes of a journal, and in a way it felt like I was sneakily looking through someone's secret diary. Like I was actually peering into someone's inner life, words that were only meant for them. I think it made the poetry a lot more person, which I find very admirable and wholeheartedly love. Poem 4 & 12 were my absolute favorite, but every single word had so much feeling and emotion behind it, I could completely feel what Lucy was experiencing and the emotion that she was conveying through the poetry. I absolutely loved this read - an absolutely essential anthology.
Wow, Lucy, I LOVED this. It was genuinely so beautiful and I could say more but I’ll just let the quotes speak for themselves…
The poetry collection is gut-wrenching in all the right places, telling a deeper, complex narrative through just three short, distinctive sections. Clearly a lot of effort was put in, and emotion as well, as readers feel the emotions right alongside Lucy as the poet! The artwork was a stunning and creative way to depict emotion alongside lines of verse.
Seriously though, I loved this. I loved the metaphors and figurative language and the structure of your work. It was an honor to get to read this before publication!
i am embarrassed of the way i practically inhaled this book. i started crying after reading "Is it purposeful? Your constant theft of everything I value" and just continued to cry on just about every page after that but it hurt so good i refused to stop reading it. pages 7 and 11 had me completely WRECKED & needing some time to process what i had just read. they felt like the author dissected my brain and wrote about some of the most personal feelings i have and i loved it. the illustrations were sooo pleasing to the eye and the way this book is formatted?! SO unique. i've genuinely never read any poetry collection done in such an eye catching way. this is one collection i NEED on my poetry shelf!
For the ones who say the wrong things and try their hardest when it feels like no one else reciprocates...
Lucy Gould pours heart and soul out in a very vulnerable collection of poems. Accessible, tender, and gut wrenching. I also loved the doodle-style illustrations. As a person who journals on poetry on my notes app, it felt like reading my diary but on paper.
I really enjoyed this, and I hope as soon as you can, you get your hands on this book.
(I was given a free digital ARC copy of Things Unsaid in return for a review)
Things Unsaid is a short and sweet collection of poetry. I enjoyed each of the nostalgic, vulnerable, and powerful yet personal poems. The art on each page is beautiful and complements the poems themselves. I'm not the type to usually read poetry collections, so this was very fun for me. My only small issue is that I wish it were longer so I had more to enjoy. Great work!
A short, vulnerable collection of poems that sucked me in. Gould gives the reader and intimate look into her mind, and though each poem is very personal, they are easy to relate to and resonate with. I felt nostalgic for my late teens. Poem number 9 was especially poignant, a quick snapshot of grief that I felt deeply. The poems are digestible, insightful, and emotional. Love this new side from the author!
I loved this short poetry collection. As a young woman, I recognized a number of the moments and struggles that Lucy based these poems on. A few of them hit a little too close to home from my high school and early adult years and made me tear up😅
If you enjoy poetry, I definitely would recommend checking this out.
