Vampire Council: Hunted

Rate this book
A road trip with a killer is not how Carmen wanted to travel to the opening ceremonies of the Convocation. But someone has been murdering her kind, and her traveling companion might be the only chance Carmen has to make it to the annual meeting of vampire society in one piece.

Assuming he doesn’t simply take Carmen out himself.

Only a week remains before the Convocation, where the vampires will gather to witness their mysterious Council, the strongest of their kind, make new laws and pass judgment on transgressors.

Carmen has no choice but to attend. The only question is which threat is more deadly: those that pursue her, those that wait for her, or the one traveling beside her….

Vampire Council: Hunted was a book I thoroughly enjoyed pretty much start to finish.

What I liked...

- The road trip set up is great fun.
- Vampire Hunter/Bodyguard Ryan is very likeable.
- The alternating person view works very well due to how distinct Carmen and Ryan are.
- A glimpse near the end of lots of fun potential additions to the cast.

What I didn't like...

- Fairly small supporting cast until near the end.
- Has kind of a weird editing error.

Though similar to the Chance Lee books in the sense of humor and setting Vampire Council is very different in a few pretty significant ways. The first is Ryan who, unlike Chance, comes across as a skilled professional who is good at what he does. As opposed to Chance who relies almost completely his bizarre luck.

The second big difference is that it's plot leans much more toward romance. This story is really about Ryan and Carmen, polar opposites, taking a road trip together as he tries keep her "alive" and doesn't go much into the source of that threat; at least not in this book. So it's a straight forward and mostly character driven adventure.

The editing error I mentioned above is that part of the final chapter of the first Chance Lee book is attached to the end of Chapter 1 of the kindle version. It's not a huge deal but it is something that needs fixing.

------------------------

I'd recommend this to anyone who enjoyed the Chance Lee books, is looking for a fun character driven urban fantasy, or just likes the "opposites attract" flavor of paranormal romance.

Fun book set in Chance Lee universe, with a couple of cameos from that series, but is otherwise independent and with slightly older / more mature protagonists and story.

I actually had very little idea what the book was about, which put me off from reading it, so here is a quick and hopefully spoiler free synopsis:

The male and female protagonists, who begin as strangers and love to hate each other, and are forced by circumstance to take a very long road trip together. Between them fighting each other and fighting the people trying to kill them, there is never a dull moment.

I'd say more but I don't want to spoil anything. Dialogue, characters, and action are well written, fast paced, and funny. If you liked his other books you will enjoy this one.

There were 2 issues I had with this book. First, I did find some of tis book derivative of his other works. Second, the end of the book raised more questions than it answers. I almost wish I had waited to read book 1 after book 2 was published.

What a breath of fresh air for a vampire romance book! I fell in love with the characters and could not put the book down. I accidentally left it at home when I went to work and could not resist downloading it on kindle because I couldn't wait to see what happened next. The characters are witty, funny, adventurous and know how to push each other’s buttons. I can't remember the last time I laughed so much reading a book. The lines and sayings are great. The book is well written and has a good story line. I can't wait to see what is next in this new series! I have not read the "Chance in Hell" books but after reading this one I am going to start them right away. It is so nice to read a vampire book that is not, non-stop intimate scenes and very little story line. This book has just enough sexual tension to keep you hooked and wanting more. Absolutely worth the read!

Fun concept, but overall pointless book. There's no resolution of any kind, the book just ends abruptly. There are cliffhangers, and then there is this abomination. The book is glaringly unfinished. Given that it came out in 2014, it will most likely remain unfinished. I deeply regret getting invested in the story and the time I wasted reading it.
