As a child, Gunner McKinny was given a choice. Rule in Hell or serve in the human realm and protect his little brother. He doesn’t regret the vows he made, but it’ll be a cold day in hell—literally—before anyone controls him like that again. Aside from his brother, he trusts no one. Most are terrified of him anyway.
Just how he likes it.
Vero Cap grew up rejected by his own kind, but he has zero use for the damn fae. His ability to disrupt technology was invaluable to the anarchists who raised him. He owes them everything for keeping him alive—except that loyalty didn’t go both ways. When a mission goes wrong, he’s left behind.
At the mercy of the High Guard, whose sole purpose is to defend this realm from creatures like him.
One horrific mistake leaves Vero facing lethal consequences, but he’s spared by the demon who’s become his jailer, and an uppity seelie, Jae, who hides his softness behind a gilded mask. Vero isn’t into the whole military vibe of the Guard until he fights with them and falls in love. Now he has a reason to stay.
But none of them can escape their pasts, and when Jae ends up tangled in the web of the Golden Court, Gunner and Vero will stop at nothing to free him.
Even if it means making a deal…with their very own nightmare.
Tell you about me? Hmm, well there's not much to say. I love hockey and cars and my kids…not in that order of course! Lol! When I'm not writing—which isn't often—I'm usually watching a game or a car show while working on promo. Going out with my kids is my only down time. I get to clear my head and forget everything.
As for when and why I first started writing, I guess I thought I'd get extra cookies if I was quiet for awhile—that's how young I was. I used to bring my grandmother barely legible pages filled with tales of evil unicorns. She told me then that I would be a famous author.
This is one of the authors I love for their unique and original world building where every detail, every connection between the characters has a story of its own and nothing, absolutely nothing is what it looks like on the surface.
The second book in the series - No shame - is centered around Gunner, Jae and Vero. But there is so much more than their stories happening on page and so much more, hidden beneath, deeply rooted in their past. I was curious to see behind Jae's perfect glamour, Vero's prickly aloofness and of course - learn more about Gunner. And it definitely delivered!
No shame is a fascinating combination between paranormal, urban fantasy and even, at least to me - light dystopian vibe. It's very hard to explain without spoilers, how the hellhounds aren't what we typically know and see in books, how demonology has a brand new uptake, based on the author's different view.
Bianca Somnerland always stays away from trends and creates fascinating worlds from scratch. And what is even better? The non traditional polyamory elements expertly woven into the story.
Does perfection has a name - descriptions that make you feel, not just read, immaculate flow, characters that aren't one-dimensional, world building that makes you look around and check, haven’t you fallen through a crack into it without noticing? Yes, this new series delivers something thrilling and unconventional! Enjoy!
I finished this book and didn’t want it to end, I was just savouring every moment! This world, these characters, we get to learn even more about them, and the circumstances of their lives. Our three main characters for this romance sparked and then paused, and we get to see why that was. This world is more complicated than it seemed, and we get to see how it became. The bad people aren’t clear, or as clear as they seemed, and even then, ambiguous at the most. As usual, I reached a point in the book where I simply could not put it down, and while things veered in directions I did not expect, it all made perfect sense that that was where it was supposed to end up. Gunnar, Jae, and Vero are secure in their commitment to each other, and whatever the future brings in the series, they will face it together <3
In all honesty I should probably have reread book one before reading this. The large cast of characters, not just who they are but also what they are still caught me out at times. Then we got a few more thrown in for good measure. In fairness though, that’s on me and not a reflection of the book as a whole. Gunner, Vero and Jae all have their reasons for not wanting to get too close to anyone but while their personal journeys are not straightforward they eventually find their way to each other. This may be Gunner, Vero and Jae’s story but I did develop something of a soft spot for Solomon. I’m not sure whether I’m ready to forgive the author for what they put me him through!
When I read No Escape (the first book in this series) I was immediately pulled into this world full of monsters, magic, and mayhem. I did not want that book to end, I just wanted more from the characters and to learn more about this unique world. When I saw that a second book has been released I was so excited, it made me eager to dive in.
I'm going to start by saying this book is as incredible as the first, if not better. After reading No Escape I knew that this author knows how to write fantastic characters and knows how to immerse you into the world they created with their words. Even though I knew from the first book that Bianca is a good writer, their writing in this book surprised me. In the first book we didn't get to learn much about Gunner, Vero, and Jae but within this story we got their whole backstory from each of their perspectives.
Oftentimes time jumps can be muddled and end up throwing the story off, but Bianca handled the time jumps expertly and made those moments fit seamlessly. Those helped provide insight into these men and what their lives were like before the compound. I enjoyed being able to learn about all of these men from their own perspectives, that was done really well. All of these men have heartbreaking pasts but overtime and after a lot of stubbornness they help soften each others sharp remarks, and work towards breaking down the walls they have had to build to protect themselves. I really loved the side characters, they not only help provide that found family aspect that the compound has created, but they also help progress the storyline, in addition to providing wonderful dialogue and insight into each of the MC'S lives.
While Jae wasn't my favorite in the first story, I was able to understand him better with this book. I learned why he behaved the way he did, I learned why Vero was so determined to leave in the beginning, and why Gunner tried not to get too close to anybody. I liked being able to learn about each of these men and being able to better understand them. The buildup of these characters getting together was so good!! Definitely a slow burn as far as admitting feelings goes. It was done so well!
The plotline itself was full of twists and turns, secrets that got unraveled, and plenty of detailed action scenes. Solomon's character made me cry, he's such a sweetheart who was raised and treated like something he isn't. I hope he gets his own story, I would love to see his character grow. What I enjoyed the most was seeing all of the other characters from the first book in this one. Such as; Jethro the elder dragon, Edric, Lyric, Nicky and Axton just to name a few. Aside from Solomon, we got introduced to several new characters, most of which are bad, but Rowan's character is good guy and he was a pleasant surprise! I hope he'll be in future stories. Overall a terrific addition to this series with an amazing overarching plotline, and has a steamy romance between three stubborn men who realize they love each other. I hope there is more to come from this series, I don't feel as though this is done just yet. The fae courts seem to have their sights set on the Guard and I'm curious about what's going to happen next. If you're wondering if this book ends with a HEA I would say.. technically yes for the couple. However, for the plotline itself, I would say this has more of a HFN ending.
I'm hoping there will be lots more to come from this series!!
I really enjoyed the plot and the story building. Each book gets better and better. There's so much love between the characters. I can't wait to read the next one. I really wanna read about Nicky. He's such a sweetheart.

I was lucky enough to get arc copies of both books in this series and I literally read them back to back as I absolutely loved them! Set in an amazing and intriguing world with such brilliant character development by the author that enabled us to fully bond with the characters. The storyline just drew me in and kept me there as I explored along with Gunnar, Jae, and Vero whose belief and commitment to each other was such a pleasure to read. I am really hoping the author decides to give us more! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I can't remember the last book that was so deeply moving that made me cry and at the same time was full of action humor and heat. I don't want to add any spoilers, so let me just say that Ms. Sommerland gifted me with lasting pavlovian response - every single time I think of Winnie the Pooh, or see the reference anywhere I can't hold back the tears. It's been a week since I've finished this book, but I couldn't write the review because every time I tried my vision blurred. Bianca Sommerland is a true master of understanding the complexity of one's feelings, emotions and therefore the reasons for their actions. Along with the angst, heart stopping action, imagination, heat, family found trope and banter this makes a book that's impossible to put down. Her characters are incredibly well fleshed out and complex - there's no black and white here - just real life transferred in her captivating imaginary world. Don't read this as a standalone, because you'll be lost and missing out a lot! So grab No Escape first and enjoy the ride. I can't wait for the next book in this series because there are so many characters that absolutely beg for stories of their own.
Enjoy this author. Will continue reading this author. Characters are individuals. (I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.)
