It isn’t until I find the stowaway in my luggage — a single, sentient tentacle that decided to hitch a ride from my old job— that the Kraken even realizes not only am I not a pet, but I’m also intelligent.

When he figures out that I’m a female? Well, let’s just say maybe I am about to get lucky after all.

3 ⭐️ for my enjoyment but 4 ⭐️ for the overall vibes.

a funny, short & sweet novella! i read this in one go — bridget was a mood with her internal monologue and borumor was a fun tentacled mmc. there were some wild lines in here that had me hysterically laughing. it was very short so there wasn’t a ton of depth or development, but for what it was, i had fun!

i have loved being an ARC reader for the starlight brides series, and i do sincerely hope that some of these authors keep writing in this universe, because the premise and setup of “accidental mail order brides” is really funny

Seeking a better life, the characters sign up for new jobs. However, what they receive and what they expected are two different things.

This sci-fi paranormal tale follows Earth women as they discover their fated mates in the most unexpected places. It features humor and a longing for love that we can all relate to.

The series is written by different authors, each contributing their own unique spin on the concept of fated mates with unusual alien creatures.

It's a very short but enjoyable read.

This was silly, fun, with some very real stressors. Bridget ended up as a pet for a hot minute, until mister kraken guy figured out she was sentient. He jumped all in right off the bat but she was reluctant. I wish we got to see more of their friendship and relationship building on page, but it was still cute.

Spice: 2/5

Triggers: abduction, drugging, captivity, fear of suffocation via drowning, MMC cums on FMC for not entirely sexual reasons but she doesn’t consent

1/5🌶️

This was a goofy, short, alien romance novella which I found enjoyable and a little break from reality which I needed. This follows a human who is dropped into the lap of a kraken alien, initially as a pet, but once he realizes she’s intelligent and appealing, he looks for a a way to mate with her and keep her happy.

I would love to see a longer version of this story, especially hearing more about the reunion between Bridget and Aileen, and their alien husbands. Also… gimme more of the glittery spice!!!! 🤭😏😜

Super cute, funny Starlight Lottery novella from the always imaginative January Bell.

Human Bridget has spent her entire life on a space station servicing air scrubbers for ages, so when she’s kidnapped as she’s about to approach the transport hub, she’s upset and worried for what her fate will be. With only a stowaway sentient single tentacle as her companion, she’s completely alone in a vast and cruel universe.

When Borumor, eight-tentacled king of Kylassis is offered a “pet” by a very sketchy courtier who’d love to see him unseated, he snatches the bio bubble containing the creature to examine in privacy. When he realizes the pet is a she, and unlike any other being he’s encountered and that she’s sentient and angry, he’s drawn to her while aware of the fact that his courtiers have basically framed him for trafficking interstellar species.

This was very short, had tons of humor, (Bridget has been hilarious throughout the series, and her cocktopus jokes are on point) and a whole lot of smexy tension.

I was fortunate to have received an advance reader copy from the author and bookfunnel, and I’m pleased to leave my honest review.

On one hand i really wished it to be longer but then again - this was exactly the spicy little sweet treat I needed after the election.
This was a 4.5 star for me, and the only part dragging it down was that it was a tad bit too fast in a Stockholm syndrome sort of way. 🤷🏽‍♀️ But I can't really fault our girl cuz I would've folded faster than a wet napkin as well soooo yeah
We already know that January Bell is a spectacular author so I wasn't surprised to find that I really enjoyed this book. Wouldn't say no to more spicy scenes tho😅

I received this (and the whole starlight brides series) as an arc and these are my honest opinions. Thank you so much to the author 🫱🏻‍🫲🏼💕

I loved this. This book is everything a book should be. Funny, romantic, and had me laughing out loud at the way the FMC was written.

This was just a short novella but honestly I could read this book if it was 1000 pages and have such a damn good time doing so.

I'm obsessed with this whole series, but this is one of my favorites!

I love that they are all standalones, but there are little ties to other books. We first meet the FMC and her tentacle friend in Alien Werewolf's prize so it was cool to see her get her own book!

My favorite part was definitely when the MMC realizes Bridget is a female and becomes a little obsessed.

January Bell always makes me laugh out loud and this book wasn’t any different! I really enjoyed it, the humor was amazing, Borumor was a bit weird but sweet in his own way and Bridget was badass with sharp funny comments and I absolutely loved it all.

💙 “Every sound you make makes me feel good. Every smile you give me is a gift. Every breath you draw makes me feel lucky to be alive at the same moment as you.”

Do you remember Bridget - Aileen’s friend from Alien Werewolf's Prize? Well, she and Harry the tentacle are in for quite an adventure!

I loved Bridget! She’s sassy, clever and absolutely hilarious. Honestly, her inner monologues had me cackling non-stop! Living on a space station, her life hasn’t been easy, but when she’s been selected for the Starlight Lottery, the future starts looking far brighter. Until her ship is boarded and she ends up on an ocean planet as a pet for an alien king.

Borumor is the kraken King of Kylassis. He’s gorgeous, charming and protective. And he’s quite thoughtful, patient and considerate, too. Borumor is a spectacular male and I loved him so, so much!

I absolutely loved everything that happened between Bridget and Borumor! As a new ruler, Borumor has a lot on his plate, especially when he’s constantly pushed by the nobles to choose a wife and produce an heir. That’s when he’s offered a pet, which turns out to be no pet at all… I adored Bridget and Borumor together! And their banters, teasing and cultural and mating differences had me laughing out loud throughout the whole story. They were truly perfect together and I couldn’t get enough of either of them!

Overall, the story is a quick, sweet and fun read and I absolutely loved every page of it!

Hilarious! **SOME SPOILERS**

Bridget was hilarious but the two MCs together was pure comedy! I literally had tears in my eyes from how hard I was laughing after he "clouded" on her. I never believed a couple was meant for each other as much as they were within the first few moments of them meeting. I wish the book had been longer so I could enjoy them more. Knowing this was a very short story, I was satisfied with it all. However, I would love it if a longer version came out one day. It'd be thrilling to see the MMC get his revenge and his throne back. I wanted to see Aileen and Bridget reunite in the book but was happy enough that they were on their way to it. I'd enjoy seeing the MMCs world more and finding out if Bridget would ever get used to it, because she would be a bada** queen. Her character was EVERYTHING!!! And I am highly interested in learning all about how the cloud of fertility works because Bridget's WTF was my exact response. I was in TEARS! Loki Renard's book "Ransom" is the only other book that made me laugh this damn hard, with an equally different kind of heroine. I'd love to find more books like this.

This one was super short, but hilarious. I loved it. We have already met Bridget in this series and she’s on her way to a Starlight Lottery hub to get her new life when her ship is taken over & she’s kidnapped. She’s given as a pet to a kraken king of an undersea world. Borumor is arrogant and really not interested in taking a wife and having heirs, much to his court’s dismay. When someone from court tells him they will give him this rare air breathing pet for him to court their daughter he can’t help himself. He sets Bridget up in her own little terrarium, but soon finds out she’s actually sentient. The banter between these two had me cracking up! Bridget is a firecracker, so funny and so blunt. I loved her so much. She’s also still holding onto the sentient tentacle thing she broke free with in an earlier book lol I actually expected that Tentacle to somehow transform & become her mate before I read the book 😂 I am still loving this series!

Stranded in space and taken captive by alien forces, Bridget (h) thought her luck couldn’t get worse, until she wakes up in a terrarium under the watchful eye of an enormous, tentacled king. Borumor (H) rules an underwater world, but he’s tired of his conniving court and never expected to find himself entranced by a human, a pet who refuses to play by anyone’s rules but her own. After some tense encounters, they develop an uneasy connection. When Borumor’s kingdom casts him out, he and Bridget are thrown together in a daring escape that leads them on a journey across the stars. Both fierce and funny, they make an unlikely pair whose bond grows deeper as they leave behind everything they’ve known to build a new life together, free from expectations and old loyalties. Hot and steamy alien-human romance, with plenty of humor, exploring love, loyalty, freedom, belonging, societal expectations, obligations, devotion, resilience, fresh starts, and adventure in the vastness of space.

After her transport is hijacked, Bridget and her pet sentient tentacle find themselves in what appears to be an alien pet enclosure. Her owner is King Borumor, a kraken-like alien in charge of a treacherous, scheming, underwater people. He thought that all land dwellers were simply animals, but when he realizes she’s sentient and injured, he strives to help her. His sudden attraction to her is unexpected, but he’s more than willing to do what it takes to win her affections.

Alien Kraken’s Prize is a perfect novella that hits all the right notes. Bridget is a little bit zany, and Borumor is a little bit crafty, making for a fun clash of perspectives with the perfect thread of romance. A perfectly delightful read.

This cute romantic story is about Bridget with her tentacle friend and King Borumor. I'd loved the characters, the story line made me giggle, swoon, groan, get angry, and etc... Bridget gets captured and drugged out by the pirates that attacked the ship with the brides. Borumor's council keeps pushing him to marry which he's resisting. Zayros walks in carrying a creature, a pet, as a courting gift. He dumps Bridget in front of Borumor. Borumor accepts. Zayros expects him to court his daughter and tries to make plans for them to meet, but Borumor carries Bridget to his chambers dismissing the idea. What occurs afterward when Bridget wakes up from the drugs in Borumor chambers was an entertaining enjoyable twisty alien romance to read among this series of the Starlight Brides Lottery. I'd received a copy and volunteer to read and review.

Bridget is fucking hilarious. I related to her reactions at every bad turn and I loved how funny she was. I even loved the sentient tentacle she stole away and takes care of.

The situations/plot was all around funny. from her being a pet, to him being shocked she stimulates his mating response, to his abject terror over her grievous injury (her period. lol), her punching him in the dick, him being deposed, all of it.

I just honestly thought it was too short and the ending was rushed. It was one short arc scene at the end and it was door ajar. No real details.

Alien (octopus tentacle man). Abduction. Human pet. She gets her period and he freaks out (thinks she is dying). Hilarious sarcastic FMC. King MMC. Mating secretions (aphrodisiac). Mating. Epilogue 6 months later traveling to her friend since the king was deposed.

I had been eagerly awaiting Bridget and Borumor's story ever since I read this author's previous entry in this series, Alien Werewolf's Prize, which is where you first meet Bridget. I absolutely adored that book, and I can't state strongly enough how hard my heart breaks to give this book only four stars. While it is still a super funny, wickedly cute and have you sighing and swooning story that I definitely recommend, I have to admit it just wasn't very satisfying. I desperately wish that there had been more actual interaction and relationship development between the main characters. I know it is only a fast-paced novella but a read a lot of them and unfortunately this one didn't only leave me wanting more, it left me feeling I needed more and that Borumor and Briget deserved more.

“I’m not a man,” I remind her. “I am a kraken.”

Rating: 4.5/5

POV: Dual 1st

So much was packed in this novella and I spent most of the time cackling! The banter between Borumor and Bridget was delightful.

All the big lines were crossed to make this a concise novella, but I would love an extended version. I didn’t mind not reading about the details of the political coup on Kalamatri, but it was an interesting world to briefly learn about. The relationship between our leads was really the focus and I appreciated that a lot. The humour was the cherry on top!

This is such a sweet sweet novella. Its humorous and addictive and way way to short.

There are many things in life that suck, but being mistaken for a pet is probably the worst thing imaginable, well, apart from being abducted. Fortunately though the king realizes I am so much more.

This story goes from 0-100 in the blink of the eye. The banter and innuendoes that follow leave you bewildered. The amount of catchphrases pertaining to a bodily function has you laughing, gasping for breath and ultimately trying to repeat them. 🤣

This is such an amazing read. I hope that we hear from them again in the near future. 💜🔥

What a fun story! It's light hearted and silly. I totally appreciate this showing up after election day a few days ago. It lifted some of my sadness. The MFC showed up in a previous book and her tentacle companion is great. I love how she is just rolling with everything that happens to her.

Besides the sheer absurdity of "glitter jizz", I liked this surprisingly pertinent comment on capitalism,

"Being kept as a pet is not the same as being able to exercise free will.”

“Being someone’s wage servant is not the same as exercising free will, either.”

We briefly meet Bridget in a prior book in the series featuring her friend, Aileen, written by the same author. Bridget signs up with Starlight Lottery looking for a new job and the tentacle, Harry, tags along. Borumor is a king when he meets Bridget and is being pressured by his court to marry. He refuses to be caught up in their nefarious plans but fate has something else planned for him. This novella is a fated mates kraken romance with bits of humor and spice thrown in. Overall, a quick and entertaining read!

I loved the story. Quick, fun and romantic.
I wondered what happened to Aileen's friend and now I know.
This is a standalone with a wonderful HEA.
Steam to the romance. I loved the way the king Borumor "marked" Bridget. His realization that she was smart and could use her brain was fun to read. How he knew she was the "one".
He was also thinking ahead with an alternate plan.
Action and humor make this a fun book .

Gleeful Goblin Review: This novella is such a fun inversion of the more typical 'human girl falls for captured alien male being studied or kept as a pet' storyline. Our FMC is on her way to a Starlight Brides hub but is waylaid and taken to our MMC's planet where she's thought to not be sentient and is treated as an oddity but prized pet for our MMC. What ensues after that is a seriously nonstop hilarious circus of no shared language, followed by miscommunication, wildly different ideas on 'dating rituals', and tentacles galore. Short, sweet, and full of heat. 5/5 Stars

Water King and Dryland Queen

I enjoyed this book because of the crazy cultural misunderstandings. The FMC is kidnapped and given away a Kraken King as a pet. But he doesn’t deal in sentient beings being kept as a pet. Then there are concerns trying issues and before you can sneeze the couple is off on a space adventure roaming the galaxies. It was a cute romance and had some pretty sexy times. I admired both main characters, she was feisty and resilient and he was protective and culturally aware.

Bridget is flung into captivity after escaping the space station she had been living on with Harry, her sentient tentacle. Borumor, leader of his people doesn't know what to do with the new pet he's been gifted with. He just knows he's never had this kind of reaction to any female before.

It was a sweet little story. The set up was strong, the characters' reactions to their circumstances was cute and quirky. For such a short novella, it really did feel very fleshed out and full. Will definitely be reading more of this author in the future.

Tentacles galore, this sweet read had me chuckling with so many funny one liners I just couldn’t stop reading! Bridget’s Starlight Lottery job gets her abducted and sold as a gift to the kraken king Borumor. What I love about this book is how devoted Borumor is to his mate…and how different species could find commonality with the “fertile cloud”😁. The plot is solid and although you keep wishing the story continues, you are left satisfied. Download and enjoy this delightful read❤️❤️❤️

This is the companion story to Alien Werewolf’s Prize. If you were wondering what happened to Bridget, and the tentacle, you’ll get some answers here. Told from dual POV this story felt rushed and like it needed more. More character development, more world building and just more story in general. Admittedly I waffled on how to rate it as 3 stars seemed too low but four stars too high. Eventually I decided on 3.5 and rounded for a bit of a tale that was bit better than okay.

Ms. Bell, you are completely unhinged.

Don't ever change. This was a very short read but a highly entertaining one. After finishing a more serious book for my work book club, this was exactly the book snack I needed. I expected something longer for the next installment in this series, especially with it having been previewed in a previous book. But, I must say, I was not disappointed in the length. She said what she had to say. Silly sexy times were had by all.

This was so sweet, Bridget was funny and unique and I loved her little tentacle sidekick, Harry.

That said, I really wish this was paced better and was way longer. The leads barely know each other before the time skip and we don't get to see their relationship grow, also, most of us read these for the smut but you had to wait until the LAST chapter for anything to happen and it was super vanilla and over in a few sentences. Spice this up and make it raunchy and spicy and it would be perfect!
