The perfect cozy escape! This story had everything I didn’t know I needed: mystery, heart, and a dash of sweet romance.

I’m not usually big on cozy mysteries, but wow, this one had me totally hooked. Read it all in one day! The romance takes a backseat at first, letting the mystery shine and it’s a good one! Someone’s targeting Lizzie ( and her bakery) , and she’s determined to find out who’s behind it before things get dangerous. I couldn’t stop flipping pages, needing to know how it all played out.

And let’s talk about Lizzie and John. Longtime friends who’ve never seen each other that way... until now. Watching them slowly realize their feelings was just the sweetest. But with feelings comes risk, could being honest ruin their friendship? And if they took that leap, would Lizzie have to give up her bakery dreams? So many layers!

Oh, and we have to give some love to “Little Mouse”: the sneaky, smart hero cat who lowkey saves the day more than once. Iconic.

What you’ll find inside:
- friends-to-more romance
- a twisty small-town mystery
- a peek into Amish life
- baked goodies galore
- a heroic feline sidekick
- some pretty suspenseful moments
- warm, supportive community vibes
- and yes… RECIPES!

I received a complimentary copy, but all opinions are totally my own, and this one’s a keeper.

Lizzie Miller is an Amish woman who has learned to bake New Orleans–style French pastries. When she opens a bakery, she soon starts having issues with someone trying to scare her into shutting down. With the help of her friends—and her good friend’s older brother—they begin investigating who might be behind it and why. Their search uncovers a 100-year-old mystery they must solve to get to the bottom of everything.

This is a cute cozy mystery with a touch of romance—not much. It was a little better than most cozy mysteries I’ve read. There were a few moments that genuinely made me smile, and I thought the book was really cute.

Cozy mysteries aren’t exactly my favorite, but they’re a nice break from my usual reads. I felt this one was done really well. I liked that an element of surprise was saved for the very end—it was something I had been wondering about for several chapters. As with most cozy mysteries, the love story wasn’t a major focus. I always want more romance, but what was there was sweet, and I marked several parts I really enjoyed. If I could, I’d rate this book 3.5 stars.

This is definitely for readers who prefer a cozy, sweet read that’s well-paced but not overly emotional or suspenseful. Even though it’s Amish fiction, I think people who don’t typically read Amish fiction could still enjoy this—if they like this kind of mystery.

I received a copy of this book through the publisher. All opinions are my own.

Rating: 5 stars Cover: Love it!
Series: #8 of The Heart of the Amish Book

Ever pick up a book and, from the very start, the read is enjoyable. Makes you smile every time you return to the story. Well, that's the way I feel about "Lizzie's Little Mouse". The title got my attention. I loved the cover and guessed (or maybe I hoped) that I was seeing "the mouse". Hint! I was right.

I have read some of this series and enjoyed all of them, but I have to say, this is my favorite. A different kind of plot. An Amish woman is opening a bakery. Not just an Amish bakery but a French & Amish bakery.

A family furniture store across the street wanted that building for expansion. See, the plot is different. And of course, that family has a son -- an unmarried son.

You'll find yourself smiling a lot when you read this one. Laugh out loud sometimes. You've heard of feel-good movies? Well, this is a feel-good book. I highly recommend.

I received a complimentary DRC (digital review copy) of “Lizzie's Little Mouse” via NetGalley from the publisher, Barbour Publishing. A positive review was not required; the opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

I wish this would have taken place in New Orleans. I liked the French-New Orleans style pastries and baked goods throughout this story. The mystery was fun. It involved a few break-ins and a past murder in the building. There is also is a bit of romance.

This is the first book I've read by this author. I enjoyed the character of Lizzie, who is so independent, caring, and quite determined. She had lots of motivation to succeed despite the threats to close her new bakery.

There is humor, danger, mystery, and an unexpected budding romance. The author did an excellent job of weaving some historical and mystery aspects into the story, keeping me engaged. I like stories with cats, so Little Mouse was a great addition. Made me laugh.

It's an exciting story with lots of twists and great characters with flaws and strengths. I gasped when I read some parts, laughed through others, and thought a lot about "who did it" until the end. It's not your normal Amish story—much more.

I received a complimentary copy from the publishing company, a positive review is not required. All opinions are my own.

Synopsis:
Lizzie Has Dreams That Won’t Be Deterred

Full of faith, hope, and romance, this series takes you into the Heart of Amish country.

Maybe all Lizzie needs is a little faith and a lot of love.

Thoughts:
A good, clean mystery that, while it does deal with murder, is not directly a murder mystery as the murder happened 100 years before. The culprit of the mystery was surprising to me, though that has to do with the fact that the person was practically never in the story until they show themselves as the culprit.
I liked how protective John was, and how Lizzy and the others didn't refuse his help. They appreciated it. Far different from other books where the female character refuses any help or support until they collapse. I like how the romance was slowly building up, not instantaneous. And I even appreciated how Lizzy wanted to court/be courted by John but she also didn't want to give up her bakery.
The baked goods that were mentioned in the book honestly sounded so good! I wanted beignets, and strudels while I was reading! I also like that there are recipes in the back of the book. Maybe I can make a notebook with all the recipes from the books I read! That would be good!
I liked Petite Souris, Little Mouse, and liked how she saved the day.

*****I received this free ARC ebook from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

A fantastic read! I love how this Amish romance incorporates a mystery and a strong female main character!! Lizzie purchases a bakery and plans to make French style pastries as well as Amish. Someone is trying to get her to close her bakery and is making threats as well as breaking in. They discover a history at the inn where the now bakery stands. Previously an author was murdered there. This was such a fun and enjoyable Amish read

It is unusual for an Amish woman to open a French bakery but Lizzie is pretty unusual. She had purchased a building to house her shop and living quarters for her to live. Unbeknownst to her, the shop has a 100 year old mystery. A author was murdered there and the murderer was never caught. Lizzie and her supportive friends are excited for opening day however, it becomes a tragedy when a brick goes thru the window and a stranger threatens her with a message that is cryptic.

Of course her friends and the brother of her friend John becomes concerned and they are ready to solve the mystery. They uncover the history and possible motives. It all comes to an head when the whole community comes together to "search" the house for the lost manuscript.

John and Lizzie add to the mix their mixed up feelings for each other and make their own story.

A special thank you to Barbour Publishing and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.

Spiritual Themes
Overt spiritual content is light, aside from the characters being members of the Amish church. I did like one scene where a character is praying and determines to pray for God’s will — not just his own.

What I Liked
I really enjoy stories with a strong food emphasis, and I found the bakery setting to be highly appealing. It was delightful to read about the abundant French pastries, cookies, and strudel. There were also a few mentions of pizza (which was not one of the bakery’s offerings), which I consider to be an added bonus!

This is Blackburne’s third contribution to the Heart of the Amish series, and she makes a point to bring back the characters from the earlier installments. I am most intrigued by the slowly-developing relationship of two background characters. (As a note, readers will benefit from reading Blackburne’s installments consecutively, since they are set in the same community as her other books in the series).

I planned to read LIzzie’s Little Mouse because I’ve enjoyed the other title in the series. As such, I did not give much attention to the synopsis, nor did I realize that the book would be something of a mystery. With that said, I liked the mystery element in its departure from the standard arc of romantic Amish books. Lizzie’s bakery is located in a historical building, and I enjoyed how that setting framed the plot in terms of timeline and long-forgotten intrigue. The inclusion of a titular cat is also a unifying thread between the books, and I liked that Little Mouse has a more significant part to play in “her” book.

The female friendships in the book are sweet! Eliza and Jane (and I just realized why I kept thinking of Eliza Jane Wilder while reading! I only now connected that the girls have both her names– not just Eliza) are supportive and kind and also lend a touch of humor to the story. I enjoyed reading Jane’s knowing observations about Lizzie’s developing romance.

Lizzie’s friendship with John presents an interesting exploration of gender roles in the context of friendship. I feel that Lizzie raises an excellent point when she weighs John’s level of involvement in her life, considering that he is not a family member, nor is he her husband. I think that sometimes, Christian women can overextend the idea of masculine authority beyond the words of Scripture. We see fathers and husbands presented as “coverings” for women, but that does not mean women are called to come under the authority of all men, simply because of their gender.

Content Notes
I was a bit surprised by the frequent references to luck, including casual conversational use and comments about it being “fun” to pretend to believe in luck. There’s a similar approach to the concept of ghosts, with one character commenting that it’s fun to pretend, and Lizzie feeling unnerved by the history of her bakery, even though she doesn’t believe in ghosts.

There’s an interesting, but very brief, comment about Lizzie’s decision to bake French, New Orleans-style, pastries, rather than sticking with traditionally Amish fare. I think this could have been a valid point of discussion, but it’s undermined by the fact that the character making the claim is not from New Orleans, either.

Recommendation Status
French cuisine pairs nicely with a light mystery in Lizzie’s Little Mouse. Recommended for readers who enjoy Amish romance and historically-motivated intrigue.

Maybe all Lizzie needs is a little faith and a lot of love.
This is Lizzie Miller and family's story. Agnes and Henry her mother and father.
Childhood friends Jane Bontrager and Eliza King's story.
Jane’s brother, John Bontrager's story.
Elizabeth Miller grinned so hard her cheeks hurt as she care fully maneuvered a pair of giant scissors into position to cut the bright green ribbon stretched across the front of her new business in downtown Willow Creek, Ohio. She opened the scissors wide, then closed them with a decisive swish, sending the cut ends of the ribbon fluttering away to each side.
A cheer rose up from those gathered for the grand opening and ribbon cutting of The Plain Beignet, and Elizabeth—Lizzie to her friends and family—looked around in wonder as the people dearest in the world to her celebrated the realization of her dream.
The pretty little cat was officially named Petite Souris, which was French for “Little Mouse.” But she was more commonly known to Lizzie’s friends by her English name.
“That was odd. Are you oll recht?”
Lizzie glanced away from the door where the strange little man had made his angry exit, and saw that Jane’s brother, John Bontrager, was standing nearby frowning in concern. “John! I didn’t see you there. Ja, I’m fine. That was just so odd.”
He frowned and looked out through the big front window, but the man was gone. “It was more than odd, Lizzie. It was rude and a bit threatening. Do you know who he is?”
I recommend this book.

I really enjoyed the story and getting to watch Lizzie’s dream of opening her own bakery. She is excited to share her treats with others and welcomes people at her grand opening. I could smell the pastries as they were pulled from the oven. One person is not happy that Lizzie has incorporated French pastries to her menu. His threat is ominous and later will play a big part in who wants to scare her enough to close her bakery.

One thing that really struck me was when someone was saying, “even though we belong to different church districts, we’re all Amish, and we’re suppose to support each other.” As Christians we should be supporting each other instead of judging or trying to cause strife. We all serve one God and should not be trying to stir up trouble because we may not agree on everything. This was so powerful to read how the Amish support each other and don’t like division.

I really liked John and how protective he is over Lizzie. He does seem to overstep himself when he tries to encourage Lizzie in what to do when she is threatened and her business is broken into. Does she realize that maybe John has feelings for her? Will their relationship develop into more than a friendship?

I liked reading about the history of the building where Lizzie’s bakery is. What an intriguing mystery the building holds and I couldn’t wait to see who was behind the tragedy that happened so long ago. It made me wonder how the mystery from so long ago was related to what was going on with Lizzie and her building. The author does a great job of keeping readers interested with great characters, faith and a mystery that starred years ago.

Baking up an Amish Mystery!

Lizzie, a young Amish woman, has worked for years to have her own bakery, and now her wish has come true--almost. From the day the bakery opened, bad things have happened. On that day, two odd men questioned her, one told her she should give up the idea, and close her store. Both men were strangers in the community.

That was followed by someone breaking in the bakery during the night. It was really traumatizing because Lizzie lives above the bakery. Later a brick, with a threatening note, was thrown through her front window.

As Lizzie and her friends try to figure out who is doing this, more bad things happen. Lizzie is on thin ice with her bishop, he has not told her to stop sleuthing--yet.

John, the brother of her best friend, is helping her try to figure things out. But the more time she spends with him, the more confused her feelings towards him are.

Little Mouse, her cat, plays an important part in the story.

As a bonus, there are two recipes in the back of the book, including one for beignets, along with the best way to eat them.

This is a great book that is both an Amish story, and a very good mystery. The ending has many twists, with things I did not see coming. This five-star book has one of the best mysteries I have ever read. Get a copy, and see if I am right!

Fans of mysteries, Amish books, and well-written stories will enjoy this great tale.

My Review:

I just love these fiction books that revolve around a bakery. I always wanted my own bakery, so I live vicariously through the main character. Just love this story. Lizzie seems like such a sweet and honorable person. i cant imagine why anyone wouldn't want her to have the things that she wants most in this world. Why would anyone want to take that away from her? But someone does. So Lizzie and her friends do their best to get to the bottom of the mystery. And along the way help comes from somebody she never thought of.

A really sweet story with a little bit of mystery--thrown in.

Does anyone else love a good Amish fiction? I’m all for them! They’re quick and easy reads that you won’t want to miss. This is the eighth book in a series. Definitely grab all of them and read them in order. That said, you can read this as a stand-alone novel as well.

This is a sweet cozy mystery with plenty of romance and cuteness thrown in as well. You’re going to love every minute of it.

Lizzie apprentices with a French bakery to help her learn all the tricks. And then she opens her own bakery. It’s unique for an Amish woman to get to do this. Not the have your own business part, but the two-year apprenticeship part. But it was approved, and she loves it!

Fast forward to having her own business.

Things aren’t going as she thought they would. Apparently, there was a murder here years and years before. And now someone is out to stop her success.

Add in John, who has been her friend through it all. But who is suddenly being seen as more than a friend. Oh, and the sweet little kitty. I’m a fan of cats, and hers is super cute.

Oh, and I loved the recipes! Going to have to try to make some of these but gluten and dairy free to fit our family.

I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book, which I received from Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. I was not required to write a positive review, nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC regulations.

Lizzie's Little Mouse by Anne Blackburne, book eight in the Heart of the Amish series, is full of faith, hope, dreams, supportive friends, humor, danger, mystery, and an unexpected romance growing between friends.

Lizzie Miller has waited a long time to own her New Orleans-style French bakery. With her parents’ and the bishop’s permission, she did a two-year internship in a French bakery in New Orleans. When she came home, she worked in the local Amish bakery, buying the business when it became available. Now that she has opened her dream shop, The Plain Beignet, with the help of her good friends Jane Bontrager and Eliza King, someone wants her or her shop gone. A few disturbing events have occurred, trying to scare her away. Thankfully with her friends’ help she will find out why someone wants her bakery business to fail. Maybe, along the way, she just may realize that sometimes dreams can be fulfilled unexpectedly; with the help of someone who was just waiting to be noticed.

Lizzie and her friends get caught up in playing detective, trying to figure out who wants to shut The Plain Beignet down. Other encounters with strange, mysterious men asking questions didn't help matters. Aiding Lizzie in chasing down clues is John Bontrager, Jane's brother, and Lizzie's grey tabby, Le Petit Souris, aka Little Mouse. As the friends work together, collecting clues and following up on them, they discover the history of the building, a murder, and a mystery that occurred within the former inn that stood there before becoming a bakery.

I loved the friendships and caring here; even the whole church community rallies around her and helps looks for answers. It was fun watching John become aware of his attraction to Lizzie and confused when he was unsure if she reciprocated. Their sweet romance had obstacles but these two were able to finally overcome all that is thrown at them. Characters from previous books in the series make an appearance, which was a nice way to catch up with them. I enjoyed how the mystery had twists and turns and an ending I never saw coming.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

LIZZIE'S LITTLE MOUSE (THE HEART OF THE AMISH SERIES BOOK 8)
by Anne Blackburne

Elizabeth "Lizzie" Miller has opened her dream business The Plain Beignet in downtown Willow Creek, Ohio. It is an Amish/French bakery, that is sure to be a hit with the residents and tourists, alike. The old building is large and has a nice sized apartment upstairs, where she lives.

Lizzie learned all about working in a French bakery from her stay in New Orleans, several years ago. She fell in love with the bakery and wanted to have her own, someday.

She lives with her cat, given to her by her friend Lydia several years ago. Lydia had given several of the Amish misses in their district a kitten, extracting a promise from each of them to keep them as indoor cats.

Mysterious things begin to happen and it appears that someone wants her to abandon her dream of owning a bakery. Her good friends are determined to help her keep the bakery open.

Her childhood friend John Bontrager insists on being around to keep the Amish women safe.

This is a delightful story of friendship, mystery, and faith. Highly recommend.

Amish Fiction is my favorite Genre of books. Lizzie’s Little Mouse by Anne Blackburne is Book 8 in The Heart of the Amish Series. The series is written by various authors and they can be stand alone books. I read many books in the series and have been enjoying the series!

I was hooked on the storyline from the very first pages. The main characters in the book are Lizzie Miller and John Bontrager. Lizzie has always wanted to run a Bakery and has been fascinated by French Bakery treats since visiting New Orleans. She was given authority to study French Baked Goods in New Orleans for 2yrs. She was very excited to be able to buy the Amish Bakery when she returned. She is living her "dream", but then trouble arises. She is being attacked in many ways and it takes her and a crew of her friends to begin to figure out why someone doesn't want her to run the Bakery. A Mystery needs to be solved and Lizzie and her friends uncover some interesting info about the Bakery that goes back 100 years. I LOVE that the friends stand by Lizzie and protect her, especially John. I truly enjoyed watching Lizzie and John turn their lifelong friendship into a Romance. They finally admitted the have wanted to court one another for a long while. A VERY Sweet Romance blossoms! This is a WONDERFUL Story and anyone who enjoys Amish Fiction with a bit of Cozy Mystery will enjoy this book! WONDERFUL BOOK!

Lizzie’s Little Mouse by Anne Blackburne is the eighth book in The Heart of the Amish Series. This work of Christian Amish fiction provides the perfect continuation of this series. Focusing on Lizzie Miller, who wanted to open a French-inspired bakery after attending a Louisiana wedding. With the permission of her parents and her bishop, Lizzie completed a two-year internship at a French bakery, worked for a local bakery, and now stands ready to put her own touches on the bakery.

After buying and opening her own bakery, she finds herself dealing with someone who wants her out of business. The author does an excellent job of building the suspense and other storyline parts. I love how her cat’s French name means “Little Mouse”. The cat plays an interesting role to this story.

With familiar characters, plus some new characters, the author takes you through interesting twists and turns. Lizzie, her best friends, plus her best friend’s brother set out to discover the secrets of the building where her bakery and living quarters is located. in the process, Lizzie and John discover they may have feelings for each other.

The dynamics of the group of friends, their families, and the community help bring this story to life. So, if you enjoy Christian Amish fiction, check out

Our main character is Lizzie Miller, an Amish young woman. Her dream is to open a French bakery complete with beignets. When she was fifteen, she attended a wedding in New Orleans and fell in love with the New Orleans style of bakery and bake goods. For two years she interned in a French bakery in New Orleans. After completing the internship, she returned home and spent the next few years working in a local Amish bakery, when the business came up for sale, she purchased it. On opening day two strange men came in and strongly suggest she close the bakery. Then someone broke into the bakery. Someone threw a note wrapped around a brick through the window. Lizzie is determined not to let anyone spoil her dream. As Lizzie and her friends search for the answer to who is trying to stop Lizzie from baking, they uncover an old mystery that has repercussions on Lizzie’s business.
Lizzie and John have been friends for a long time. Slowly they come to realize that they have more than friendship. However, could their growing feelings damage their friendship?
This is a great cozy mystery! Lizzie is a strong, independent, compassionate and heroic character. She is dedicated to her new bakery and doesn’t want anything to come between her and her dream. Fans of Amish romance and mysteries will enjoy the dual genre. This book has a focus on faith

Lizzie's Little Mouse is a charming Amish tale that follows Lizzie and John as they evolve from friends to something more. While the title didn’t initially appeal to me, the characters, setting, and storyline quickly won me over.

I’m fond of stories set in bakeries, and the added elements of mystery and history brought an extra layer of intrigue. (The included recipes are a bonus!)

Lizzie’s dream of opening a bakery felt genuine, and I found myself rooting for her success, even though her French twist was an unexpected touch for an Amish bakery. I was intrigued when she delved into the past to discover a murder mystery connected to the building. John is also a likeable character, though at times his tendency to guide and protect felt a bit much.

This Amish cozy mystery and sweet romance kept me engaged, and the blossoming romance touched my heart.

First Line: Elizabeth Miller grinned so hard her cheeks hurt as she carefully maneuvered a giant pair of scissors into position to cut the bright green ribbon stretched across the front of her new business in downtown Willow Creek, Ohio.

This is the first Amish book that I’ve read, and it’s book eight of The Heart of the Amish Series. I found it quite enjoyable. There is so much meat in this mystery from just who is responsible for the brick thrown with a note? To finding out the name of the man who threatened Lizzie at her grand opening. Lizzie and her friends search for an answer, and the plot thickens indeed, and that is, refreshing. I love how smart Lizzie’s cat was at protecting Lizzie. You go cat! As time goes on, Lizzie and John follow clues given by the locals and she finds out her building was in the news 100 years prior. Lizzie, John and crew make for great amateur sleuths. There were many twists and turns, and I enjoyed the humour as well. There is a romance blossoming between Lizzie and her old time friend, John but it isn’t overwhelming in the book. I believe you will enjoy this wonderful book over a nice cup of coffee. I look forward to reading more from this author. I received this e-book for free from Celebrate Lit Tour and the opinions I express are honest and my own.

Lizzie‘s Little Mouse by Anne Blackburne is the delightful story and mystery romance of Lizzie Miller, who opens a New Orleans style French bakery. It has been Lizzie‘s dream to open this bakery. She has worked very hard to study and learn about French cuisine. She has a love for baking and is delighted to start her business. Suddenly, on the opening day, a brick is thrown through the window of her bakery business. This takes Lizzie on a long journey of solving the mystery of who could have thrown the brick into her bakery and have caused further demage. Lizzie enlists the help of two of her dear friends. Suddenly, her friend's brother is helping and Lizzie has taken an interest in John. In turn, John, no longer sees Lizzie as his little sister‘s friend. The mystery of the 100 year-old murder that has taken place in Lizzie's building comes to light and takes you on many twist and turns along with the romance of Lizzie and John.

At first, I had a little difficulty getting into the story since you don’t typically hear about an Amish French bakery. Once I persevered, I was quickly drawn into the story and couldn’t put it down. It is a unique tale, but does draw the reader in. I like the combination of romance and mystery. I recommend Lizzie‘s Little Mouse by Anne Blackburne.

Do you like Amish romance? Or is a cozy mystery more your cup of tea? Thankfully with this book, you get both!
“Lizzie’s Little Mouse” is the eighth book in “The Heart of the Amish” and the third book by Anne Blackburne in that series. Yes, you can read it as a stand alone, but her books are so good that you will want to read them all.
Lizzie opens up a New Orleans-style French bakery in Amish country. The bakery is a success but right from the start, people are out to ruin her business. Her friends Jane and Eliza are there to support her, along with her childhood friend John. You will not want to put this down once you start reading!
With this novel Anne Blackburne has established herself as a standout Amish fiction author along with Mindy Steele, Kathleen Fuller, Shelley Shepard Gray, Rachel J. Good, Tracy Fredrychowski, and Debra Torres. I look forward to more books by her. Many thanks to the author, Barbour Fiction and NetGalley for a complimentary copy of the book. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

First I’ll say that although this is book 8 in the Heart of the Amish series, each book is a standalone. We do meet some characters, and cats, from Mary’s Calico Hope but if you haven’t read it there is no problem. But do read them all. Each author brings her own style to the stories and is enjoyable reading if you like Amish fiction.

Lizzie’s Little Mouse is different than is typical for an Amish story, as it really is a cozy mystery. I enjoyed that aspect of it. While Blackburn kept me guessing, it wasn’t a nerve-wracking edge of the seat book.

Well developed characters make this story enjoyable. Lizzie is trying to make her dream come true. John is trying to help during all the mysterious trouble, without getting his heart involved. But can he? Will they remain friends, or ruin a life-long friendship? The secondary characters are equally as good and I would love to go have coffee and pastries with them all.

If you enjoy Amish fiction with some twists and turns, do read Lizzie’s Little Mouse. You’ll be glad you did!

Lizzie Miller is a young Amish woman who opened a New Orleans style French Amish Bakery after being in New Orleans to learn to bake French New Orleans style. She dreamed of opening her own pastry store at home.

Her dream has finally come true and she had a lot of support in her community. Her grand opening day was a bit more exiting than she could have imagined. Someone wants her to shut down her bakery or maybe they want something in her store or living area. They are really trying to scare her to close her bakery. With the help of her friends, and her best friend’s brother they start doing their own investigation into the vandalism and break-ins at her store.

With leads of different individuals that had their eyes on buying the store front and a revelation into an 100-year-old mystery.

A fun story with mystery, danger, humor, and an unexpected romance. As with all the stories in this series the cats add an extra layer that you will love.

All the characters are well rounded and developed nicely. I love getting a glimpse of previous characters in this series.

I received this complimentary product ts in exchange for my honest thoughts.

This charming Amish tale centres around a New Orleans style French/Amish patisserie: The Plain Beignet, newly opened by Elizabeth Miller, ably assisted by her childhood friends Jane Bontrager and Eliza King.

Right from the get go, there is trouble at the bakery with a brick smashing a glass window on opening day. Tied to it is a chilling message: "You're not wanted here. This is a warning. Close your business or next time..."

Lizzie and her friends get caught up in playing detective, trying to figure out who wants to shut The Plain Beignet down. Other encounters with strange, mysterious men don't help matters either. Aiding Lizzie is John Bontrager, Jane's brother and Lizzie's grey tabby, Le Petit Souris, aka Little Mouse.

What will the friends uncover? Is it tied into past gruesome events at the former inn, now bakery. If so, how exactly? Why are Lizzie's closest mercantile neighbours, so unfriendly. Who is this mysterious Mr. Valentine who was asking so many intrusive questions?

The author has woven a charming mystery and tender love story into this novel. I don't like mysteries or murder tales in general, even solved murders: they give me the creeps. This was so gently woven with just the right touch of mystery that barring a tiny shiver, I quite enjoyed the book. Actual mystery lovers might find this offering a bore, but wimps like me will be enchanted.

I received an ARC for my reading pleasure, and the opinions expressed are my own.

Lizzie's Little Mouse, by Anne Blackburne, is the eighth book in The Heart of the Amish series. This is a nice series that is being written by different authors. Each of the books are good stand alone stories, yet they do reference people and places from other stories. This story focuses on Lizzie after she has completed her training and is opening her own bakery. Someone does not want her bakery to succeed.
This is a well written, easy to read and imagine story that is enjoyable to read. This story is filled with mystery, suspense, and with touches of romance. This story has wonderful characters that are so helpful and supportive of Lizzie. I enjoyed how close Jane and Eliza are to Lizzie and how they come up with a plan to keep her safe. I liked the parts of the story of them and John trying to find out who is breaking into the bakery and her home and why. I especially enjoyed the theme of family and faith.
I voluntarily received a complimentary copy of this book, this is my honest review.
