Marjory Wentworth is the Poet Laureate of South Carolina. Her poems have been nominated for the Pushcart Prize five times. Marjory teaches at the Art Institute of Charleston, and her work is included in the South Carolina Poetry Archives at Furman University.
Marjory’s work always embodies empathy, vision. She is the voice for those that are not heard. Her poetry can be read over and over never losing its beauty, meaning. One River, One Boat with its gorgeous cover is a treasure of poetry and incidental stories that I loved.
I have been diving so deeply into this stunning poetry anthology by the talented Marjory Wentworth!
Wentworth is an extremely talented poet, who served as laureate for the state of SC for 17 years while also teaching at our local colleges and leading a class at the hospital centered around healing through artful expression.
I suppose it’s a testament to my more plebeian reading habits 😜 when I say that it’s been a bit since I was taken by a book of poetry. But, as with many poems that I come across, both contemporary and traditional, I find myself taking the time to really reflect with this book. It’s such a treat to allow yourself to slow down, marinate with a thought, appreciate a cadence, and take in each word of a beautiful poem.
These works will make you smile, sigh, rage, and maybe even break your heart. But I promise you that you’ll find one that will speak to you!
