Luke's father has died. His older sister is being difficult and acting out without their father there to help keep them all together, and apparently has a new boyfriend. Luke's mother is crying. All. The. Time. Matt- his father's best friend- has started imposing on all of them too, owning up to the 'father of the house' role- not that anybody asked him to, not that Luke wants him to.
And now there's this girl at his father's funeral- Sophie. She's beautiful.
She had a boyfriend. An older, cooler, better boyfriend then Luke could ever hope to be. But Luke is determined to make her his.
Introducing The Six Steps To A Girl- brought to you by Ryan, a random who won't leave Luke alone after bumping into him at a party.
Firstly- Ryan seems like a total tool. Secondly- six steps to a girl? That can't possibly work. Can it?
But now Luke's using them on Eve- and she's actually flirting back on her own. Could this be thanks to the magical steps?

I don't think I learned anything from this book. But it was a good story. A one time read. I didn't take away anything from this book but it was a light read and I enjoyed reading it.

The cover of the book is so pretty, though.

Any book that has cheating and deception in it immediately loses points in my opinion. The only reason why I'm giving this book 2 stars instead of 1 is because there were moments of beauty and love that I enjoyed.

None of the characters were particularly likeable, although I did love Ryan. Eve was manipulative, Luke was childish and Chloe was too much of a teenage stereotype.

I was really disappointed because I have loved all the other Sophie McKenzie books I've read, but this one just wasn't for me.

i thought it was a good book and you want to carry on reading it so you can find out what happens. It is about the relationship between Luke and Eve. There are problems because of the parents disapproving. There's a happy ending. Im now reading the second book in trilogy. It was a happy story. I guessed the ending. i would recommend to girls year 7 and above.

After Luke's dad passes away, he spots Eve his sister Chloe's friend at the funeral and despite being a half a year younger pursues her, crushing on her hard.

When the siblings later host a party, Ryan tells Luke about his six steps to a girl plan that always works, along with Numbers and Tones two boys who've had success with the theory.

As Luke takes a chance on it, changing his image, joining art club Eve does etc, he makes it known he likes her and she notices the spark between them.

Ben, her boyfriend is still with her though and trying to get her to finally have sex with him on her sixteenth birthday. Luke is disgusted by the way he hears Ben speaking about Eve.

Chloe starts fighting their mum whilst their dad's best friend Matt hangs around too much, they both see other inevitable coming...

Then Ben catches on to Luke and Eve, his controlling and manipulative behaviour resulting in Luke being beaten up.

As rumours fly around the school, the couple still have a powerful attraction leading to a huge change and Ryan has a surprise announcement too of his own...

Luke deals with his grief by representing it which isn't healthy as he focusses on Eve and whilst a great distraction, it allows him to be consumed and engrossed solely on himself a lot not always seeing or choosing to acknowledge the fights at home between his sister and mum. However, it shows how powerful love, lust and the power of attraction can be as he acts like Cupids arrow has just struck him from the second page!

Every girl will want a Luke!

Purchase Six Steps to a Girl here for just $6!

The first in the All About Eve series, Six Steps to a Girl is a great story that would be recommended for 10-14 year olds. Sophie McKenzie really understands teenagers, in a realistic, non patronising way and this book is hard to put down.

It just felt like reading a youth drama. As a person has watched hundreds of romance drama, I can barely guess what going to happen next. But not all, some part was happened very sudden that made me concentrate on what I was reading. It was unique that it was talking in boy's view and perspective. Most of the romance books I read were mostly are talking girl's not boy's. So it made me learn some boy's thinking when they are fall in love. If the boy's thinking were all like that in the book, then I feel I can catch some boy's thinking. I recommend to some people if you want to know your other half's perspective.

I absolutely despised this book. Luke was extremely insensitive to his father's death. The fact that he still pursued Eve despite her having a boyfriend was a huge red flag for me. All the characters in this book were whiny and immature. Overall, I was very disappointed with the outcome as I had anticipated so much from a Sophie McKenzie book since I enjoyed some of her other works.

I actually quite enjoyed this. Super short and quick to read, not sure how I feel about the "6 steps" but I think it was all a joke in the end.... Its wrong the girl was seeing 2 guys at once, but other than that there was a good story line. I predicted some of it towards the end but it was still a good read

A good short read, great characters and loved that it was written from the main guy's (Luke) point of view. However, it was a bit cliché and many 'twists' were expected and not so surprising... Otherwise would recommend to anyone who wants to read a cute love story.

I decided to read this book because it looked good. The category that this book fills in the bingo board is "A book with a male main character" Something I learnt from this book is people do anything for the one they love. My favorite quote from this book is "Is she really going out with him? Is she really gonna take him home tonight? Is she really going out with him? ’cause if my eyes don’t deceive me There’s something going wrong around here."My favorite character from this book was Chloe, the main character, Luke's sister. She was my favorite character because she was a trouble maker once her dad died and she would always tease Luke but when he gets into trouble and gets beaten up, she is there straight away and she doesn't leave his side.

A nice Young Adult romance novel, with a touch of betrayal put here and there.

This is one of my favourite books. As a writer I was interested to see how McKenzie uses first person with one character throughout. My impression: very good! Effective! Gripping!

In terms of the narrative, the protagonist is likable. The characters are fairly realistic, although I did question some of the dialogue: Would she really speak like that? Wasn't it obvious they were seeing each other?

Overall, a good light read! Easilly read in one sitting!

Finding time to sit down and read a book is becoming harder for me which is why this was the perfect book to pick up after a long time.

I remember being obsessed with this book when I was like 12 so rereading it now at 19 was nostalgic but also quite amusing. It's not the type of book I'd pick out now but I can definitely see how it was one of my favourite books as a teen, it's so dramatic but cute at the same time. Some of the plot lines are a bit insane but honestly I loved it.

This was probably the first teen book I've ever read and I absolutely loved it at the time. I remember being completely enchanted by the idea of getting an insight into the mind of a normal teenage boy (!!!). Despite his desperate moping I felt in love with Luke's character and really wanted his and Eve to get together.

This series should have ended here.

6 Steps to A Girl is the first book of the All About Eve I read and immediately I was hooked! We see how Luke and Eve first met, it's rather funny if you have a twisted sence of humor like me. I'm telling you, once you start reading this book you wont wantt to out it down!!

This book had me hooked right from the first page. Actually make that the title! The book was sweet, romantic and can make you feel so much with so little words!

Forget vampires, werewolves, faeries, mermaids and the rest, this is the perfect book to curl up with!!!!

This was a short, fun read. Easily read in one sitting. A good book to read to pass the time. It's from a teenage boy's POV so despite the girly cover guys may enjoy it. I think the title says it all, he's chasing the girl of his dreams but of course there are obstacles in his way. :)
