Well Developed Characters, Plot, Great Writing
Arthur is a firefighter who becomes permanently injured on a call to a neighborhood which is a resettlement area for monsters from other worlds. Within the year, he’s not only lost his job, but has been divorced by his wife and has had to move to a poorer neighborhood-the same one where his last call occurred.
Sansara is the daughter of a lamia saved by Arthur when he was injured and lives near his new home. She visits to thank him for saving her mother’s life and ultimately ends up becoming his caregiver.
From there, the book follows the budding romance of Arthur and Sansara, as well as their friends and family members. The story alternates between the major characters to narrate: Arthur as he transitions to his new life of working in an office environment, undergoes regular physical therapy and comes to appreciate and eventually love Sansara. For her part, Sansara’s attraction for Arthur quickly grows from a purely physical one to love and respect. The story does focus on the two’s physical desires and there are several explicit sexual scenes.
In the course of the story, the reader meets Arthur’s best friend Mark, another firefighter, his daughter Tanya, and Sansara’s mother and friends in the monster community.
Overshadowing all of this is a threat to Arthur and Sansara’s new relationship and the generally poor relationship between the human and monster communities.
Bottom line, this story has plenty of spice but also a full story with three dimensional characters and a real plot. I hope the authors continue this series and I recommend the book as a fun read.
