The First Snow Of Winter is the fifth heart-pounding instalment of the Jamie Johansson Files series, and the 12th book in the Jamie Johansson series overall. Perfect for new and existing fans of the series, and readers of Simon McCleave, DS Butler, and Angela Marsons.
Morgan Greene grew up in Wales, and works a copywriter, editor, and author. Morgan studied Creative Writing and English Literature at Swansea University with a focus on narrative structure and theory, and published the first crime novel in the Jamie Johansson series in 2020. Since its release, the series has gone on to reach bestseller status, with Detective Jamie Johansson quickly becoming a reader favourite.
The series blends classic Scandi-noir elements with modern and cinematic thriller writing to create a unique style that adds to the emerging Brit-noir genre. Jamie has many novels ahead of her, but Morgan is also working on a variety of other projects across crime, thriller, and mystery and plans to publish plenty more in 2022 and beyond.
A long-time fan of Morgan Greene and his Jamie Johansson series, I grabbed for the next book in the collection. While Jamie has been working hard to protect her adopted daughter, she is thrown into the middle of a new case when a killer tries to coax her. The Mannequin Killer is out for revenge and refuses to stand down until Jamie faces him head-on. A gripping story that kept me turning pages, which proves how impactful Morgan Greene can be!
When a woman is found frozen in place at a downtown Cardiff market, the authorities can only wonder what is going on. This is especially the case when a note is left for Jamie Johansson, as if to coax her to join the case. She takes the bait, but only after she ensures her adopted daughter is safely in a boarding school amongst the German forests.
With her attention focussed on the victim, Jamie discovers the woman was injected with a paralytic and painted to resemble a statue. This reminds some of the Mannequin Killsr, known for his sadistic treatment of those he captures. As more notes appear, Jamie is sure that she will have her hands full.
Working every angle, Jamie learns that Alina is not fitting in to her scholastic residence as well as could be hoped. Trying to juggle this and the case, Jamie soon realizes that the intention is to lure Alina away from the protective surroundings to strike and send things into a new spiral. Jamie may have taken on too much this time! A stunning addition to the series that had me hooked until the very end!
Morgan Greene has always had a way to pull me in with his ideas and presentation. The narrative of this piece keeps the pace high and the action even more on point. Characters enrich the piece, particularly for series fans, and there is no end to the backstory or development. Plot points keep things edgy and the reader is sure to find themselves surprised or eager to see what twists await them. I cannot wait to see what’s next and how Greene will make it all come together, particularly with that stunning cliffhanger.
Kudos, Mr. Greene, for always keeping things edgy for your series fans.
Morgan Greene has us with the majority of Jamie's friends that are still alive such as Alina, who acts as if she's Jamie's daughter, Elliot a criminal from her past, Church a person who watches Jamie, Thorsen, who was Jamie's partner before and also her lover and a new character Meredith who's with the local police. Now the bad guys Lena Viklund, kills people with flowers dried and crumbled into a powder, Bashir Amad, alias Mister Mannequin who freeze's people by putting a seal of chemicals on them, and then Voss, he was Elliot's partner in crime and has him crazy with fatigue. In this story Jamie is caught with fatigue also and doesn't no what to do. But Thorsen kills Bashir Amad and puts Jamie in a bath. Then she checks her phone and find Alina has been kidnapped and goes crazy with grief. Next book well she be on time to find Alina.
I have been waiting for what seems like ages for the latest Jamie book and this was definitely worth the wait. I feel like I have to pause after reading it and take a few deep breaths.
The pace was relentless as Jamie, Church and Elliot try to track down the elusive killers who are taunting them, particularly Jamie. This is made even more difficult with a series of attacks with the killers leaving messages after each. It certainly has the intended effect, leaving Jamie more vulnerable and with a sense of mortality that I've never noticed with her before. Alina is also caught in the crossfire with a sensible safe solution in hand to keep her out of the way. Just as I thought they were getting somewhere, that ending..wow.... I'm on tenterhooks for the next book.
Book 12 in the Jamie Johansson series, and book 5 in the Jamie Johansson Files series set in Wales, and things are getting really tense. It felt like everything was unravelling around Jamie and for the first time I felt like she was very vulnerable and wanting a more normal life for herself and Alina. There is also a welcome return of Thorsen, Jamie’s former partner, who really hasn’t forgiven her for her past actions. You could read this as a standalone, but I would definitely recommend reading the full series, or at least start with the first of the Files series.
Briefly, old foe Voss is back and he has Jamie in his sights, but not just Jamie, Elliot and Alina. Voss is using two of Jamie’s old adversaries to draw her out - The Mannequin Killer and Lena Viklund - and Jamie and Solomon Church are torn between who poses the most danger. Meanwhile, Elliot is trying to find Voss and has put Alina into a special boarding school for her safety, but she hates it there, thank goodness for her only friend there, Bea.
If you haven’t read any of this authors books before they are quite dark, and at times gruesome, with some very unusual and unpleasant kill methods rearing their heads. I love all the regular characters, they are all flawed, but they all now have the desire to do good. I know Elliot was a pretty bad guy but he’s become one of my favourite people. As always, a fast paced and exciting read, this time with three distinct threads, all of which meet seamlessly, although there is a pretty massive cliffhanger looming. I really need the next book sooner rather than later!
This is book 12 In the Jamie Johansson series and like all its predecessors it did not disappoint.
We pick up where we left off in the last book. Jamie & Elliot are worried about Alina's safety after Voss got away. They send her off to a high security boarding school in Germany whilst they try to hunt down Voss and the 2 other psychopaths he has helping him.
After 2 separate murders in different parts of Wales we see Jamie exhausting herself trying to work both cases. At the murder scenes there are messages left for Jamie in some kind of sick game the killer is playing. Thorsen is also trying to solve the case even though he doesn't seem happy working with Jamie again.
Meanwhile Elliot is off hunting down Voss and getting caught up in chaos where he is. It seems that Voss is always one step ahead of Elliott.
At the boarding school Alina isn't happy and wants to go home. She ends up getting into trouble with another girl she's befriended, and she hopes to be sent back home.
This book had me feeling really anxious with all the chilling stuff happening. The ending was another cliffhanger so I am definitely looking forward to the next book in the series!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Having followed this series from the start, I was really looking forward to diving into the world of DI Jamie Johansson again and this book definetly didn't disappoint.
The story follows Jamie as she seeks to find a trio of killer's who seeks to break her down emotionally, mentally and physically. This is Jamie's toughest case yet and it was great to see the return of Solomon Church, an enigma of a character that I can't wait to read in his own series of books.
For the first time we see Jamie reach breaking point as she seeks to find three killers, all hellbent on destroying her life. Will she be able to keep her adopted daughter Alina safe? Can she keep her never as the stakes grow higher?
I really enjoyed this book and from page to page it is filled with action and drama. It's not often that a series of books still has legs after 12 other books but I feel with each story, the author reveals a different side to Jamie's character. She is such a complex character and having thoroughly enjoyed this series, I love following her cases and seeing how her life unfolds. The next book is released in 2026 and I'll certainly be pre-ordering it!
Another great book for Jamie and some old faces from her past. As Jamie and Elliott realise that their pasts are being used against them with a vicious mastermind killer determined to see them suffer. Having sent multiple serial killers after them and their loved ones, it's all hands on deck trying to find the killers sent after them before they can kill anymore innocent people just torment them further.. With Alina safely exiled in a top security boarding school, their quest has Elliott traipsing all over the UK and Europe to find the mastermind behind it all. Meanwhile Jamie is forced to call on faces from her past to help her try to track down the serial killers sent after them. Both Jamie and Elliott are driven to the point of exhaustion and everything they do seems to make it worse.
How many of them will survive these killers determined to take them out but to make sure they suffer first.
This is the second part of a trilogy of stories for Jamie and her friends.
There is a high intensity in the story throughout the book as Jamie and Church race around Wales & Elliot round Europe as they appear to be one step behind the perpetrators at all times.
A fast paced book where the main characters are feel like they are being led by the serial killing gang. It leads up nicely to the crescendo of the cliffhanger at the end of the book which sets it up for the final part.
I really enjoyed the book, however as it was a little while since I read the last book, it would have been useful it reread it first to remind myself of the set up as I didn’t realise it was a follow on until I was a few chapters in. My only other gripe is that the next book is not out until next year! As I wanted to go straight to the next book immediately.
Having read the entire Wales based series , I have been hooked on a really exiting and somewhat dark story that has developed with each book. The assorted principal characters around Johansson are original, as is her history. This is I believe the penultimate book in the series and as always ends on a cliff hanger.Serial killers of exceptional talent , guided by Jamie and her team-s nemesis do terrible deeds in Wales to distract and confuse, while her adopted daughter tries to deal with an elite secure boarding school in Switzerland./I have to admit I did guess the big reveal pretty early on but it no way lessened my enjoyment.
Many thanks to Morgan Greene as ever for the advanced reader copy of this book.
I've been impatiently awaiting this new installment in the Jamie Johansson series and it did not disappoint. I was enthralled from the deliciously dark and creepy opening pages until the very last ones and that ending?! Just wow!
I loved the fast pace of this book and just when I thought I had it figured out along came another twist that threw me off guard.
Thoroughly enjoyable and highly recommended from me-bring on the next one!
Wow!!!! I read this novel in one go! Had to, it was so absorbing! I was very happy to meet Jamie, Church and Alina in this action packed thriller. I found it very intriguing to experience a new kind of Jamie, a vulnerable Jamie, in this new adventure full of darkness amidst the first snow of winter..... She really develops into a fascinating and real character, whether or not she wants to be approachable.... Full of tension, the whole novel ends in impatience for the next book!!! I want to know what happens to......
OMG it was so good to read a Jamie book and it was an edge of your seat page turner from start to finish. I absolutely love this entire series, it's a lot, she's a lot but they are so intense and exciting. You definitely have to stay on your toes following Jamie, Anders, Thorsen, Elliot, Church and Alina etc. I highly recommend you start with the first series, first book Bare Skin and keep on reading. Enjoy!!
Having just caught my breath from the previous book The Devil In The Dark, I almost needed oxygen by the time I finished this instalment. Every character has been stretched to their ultimate endurance both mentally and physically. This has been so cleverly written and keeps you turning the pages and not being able to put it down. How is this all going to end? Bring it on. Bravo Mr Greene
I have loved this series and waited "patiently" (not) for this installment. It was so worth it. It is non stop, fast paced and full of action. I always try and figure out who it is, but I was b*>ch slapped by a twist 🤦🏼♀️ Thank you Morgan for the advanced copy, blooming loved it.
All I can say is that waiting until March of next year is going to take forever! The cliff hanger on this book is insane. I think I say this for every Jamie book but Morgan Greene is a genius! My favorite thriller series that just keeps getting better and better!
