a poignant collection of coming-of-age poems set in 1990s Las Vegas, delving into poverty, puberty, family dynamics, and the loss of innocence, culminating in a powerful exploration of love, loss, and the search for identity.

I love how open and raw Oliver can be with his audience. Poems are very hit and miss for me but I loved this book. It actually made me feel something. The poem “like dad” has stuck with me since I read it. I don’t know what it is about it. Perhaps the innocence of it all? The hope that poem seems to portray?
The line “trauma only allows some overspill” is my favourite damn line.
A very vivid and emotional story told through poems, though maybe sometimes a touch too vivid for me. Also wish the final poem had had a little more closure, but it wasn’t a bad conclusion either.
