Catching the Heiress

Paisley Woods

I return home from college to a nightmare, discovering my parents plan to marry me off. Rather than being forced into a loveless marriage, I grab my cat and embark on an adventurous journey to the wild west. I may be trying to find myself, but what I find instead is the handsome Jack Graysen. Or rather, he finds me.

Jackson Graysen

Finding people is what I do. I'm the best in the business at bagging and tagging runaways, missing moguls, and runaway reprobates of the rich and famous. The heiress, Paisley Woods, should be no different. At least that was my initial motive--but then I saw her. Now I don't intend to return her. She's mine for the taking, and mine for the keeping. The only problem is, she has no idea who I really am or that her parents hired me to find her. When she discovers the truth, I'll use every tool in my arsenal to keep her by my side, and I have no problems playing dirty.

Paisley ran away because her parents wanted to marry her off, and Jackson's company was hired to find her. One of his men found her location right away, and when Jackson saw her photo, something snapped inside him, and he realized he needed this woman to be his. It turns out she's been hiding in his hometown, and he used this info to get close to her and finally work his way through their forever.

Insta-love between two strangers, and with forced proximity (because he orchestrated some lies for her to leave the motel she was staying at to stay with him) they fell in love fast and hard for one another.

Jackson's lie of omission came out at the end, and Paisley thought he did that to bring her back to her awful parents. But he cleared things up, and next thing I knew, they were professing love for one another.

Overall, the story was okay, I guess. It wasn't bad; it just didn't hold my interest, and, tbh, I'm more intrigued by June and Luka's book. 😅 Anyway, while this didn't entirely work for me, others might find this more up their alley.

Book info:
- Novella
- Insta-love
- Small town
- Forced proximity
- Attempted assault
- Violence (a bit)
- No cheating, breakup
- No real owd (locals were trying to get Jackson's attention)
- No real omd (she's engaged, arranged by her parents)
- V FMC 🫠, No info on MMC (idk, if he's V or not 😒)
- HEA (5 yrs later, married with kids)

Safe
No cheating
Unwanted OM (Paisley's parents plan to marry her off to an OM and she wants no part of it)
Unwanted OWs (When at the bar, all these women gather around Jackson wanting his attention. Paisley gets a pang of jealousy when she sees him talking to them. All the women there want him but he doesn't want them, so I think he was being polite trying to get away from the horde of women blocking him from being close to Paisley. He has no interest in them at all, never did!)
virgin heroine (she experiences all of her firsts with the hero)
No history on the hero except that his sister thinks that he's gay because he finally showed interest in a girl (Paisley) and he doesn't date ever in his small town, but that doesn't mean he doesn't date in the city where he works or any other place. He is most of the time absent, very rarely visiting his family, so no one knows about his dating life. (I wished he were a virgin too, to stop with the double standards, but I don't think he is by how he fucks. Seems to know what he is doing and is comfortable with sex, so even though I wanted to pretend he was a virgin too, I couldn't when reading the sex scenes and that was a bummer).
No gross condom use
No long separation
No stupid third act break up/push pull game
Bit of drama
HEA

This is the story of Paisley, a wealthy heiress, neglected by her parents. Once she came back from boarding school her parents wants to marry her off to some guy (not a good one and we don't know much about him). She escapes to a small town so her parents hire Jackson's company to track her and bring her back. One of his employees finds her easily and shows Jackson her file, and once he sees her picture he is enamored right there on the spot and takes on the case himself.
She so happens to be found and lives in his home town Cottonwood Creek. Could it be fate? Paisley works at a bar called Backwoods Brew and lives in the motel across the street with her cat Tigger (gave me MINK vibes), and she is friends with Jackson's sister June. Jackson sees her in person at the bar and finds her more beautiful than the picture, and is now fully determined to make her his forever, so he finds a way to whisk away Paisley to his place. It takes a few lies, but he is determine to keep her. The crux of the story is to make her fall in love with him, and to figure out how to break it to Paisley that even though he was hired by her parents to find her, one look at her picture and he was all in to making her his. It was important for her to know, that she was never a job to him, not for a second, so of course that is the little bit of angst in the story that is thankfully quickly remedied.
Paisley is a klutz, but it really bothers her since her parents shame her in everything she does, so her life of freedom seems to be like a young bird trying to fly on her own and struggling, fumbling and tripping at first. She is a sweetheart and it breaks my heart at how lost she is in the world. I am glad for Jackson being her rock, and I did like him. He is a worthy hero, always encouraging, never wavering in his feelings for Paisley. He is attentive, devoted, sweet, caring, passionate, and I love that about him. Lucy Darling does write worthy heroines you root for and heroes you swoon over, and I did enjoy them and their story, but I have to say, June and Tigger made me smile, and when she met Luka, I perked up! Tigger made me smile (I love animals especially cats), and June was a delight! Luka is mysterious.
I did enjoy it and I recommend it for a one time read. I have to admit that the double standards bummed me out, but I was at least thankful that there was no OW past, or any mention of his sexual history, so that is a plus I guess. I am excited for June and Luka's story! Luka is Paisley's brother, and he and June have so much chemistry in the little argument they had towards the end of the book. I hope that Lucy Darling will make them dual virgins, I really do! He reminds me of the hero in "Only Sunshine" by Lucy Darling, a fantastic DV I reread often! Very debonair, nose up in the air, no nonsense kind of gentleman, and June is the spicy, feisty, hissing kitten that holds her ground, but is such a delight as well and her loyalty toward Paisley is a quality that I treasure and admire in her. I am invested in them and cannot wait for their story! Lucy Daring will release their story next, but again, I am crossing fingers and toes that she makes it a Dual V card story! If the heroine gifts the hero with all her firsts, it is only fair, that he gifts her with all of his firsts. That is what is so romantic about dual v cards and what makes it so special. Please please with double cherries on top! *fingers on temples, psychically sending my wish to Lucy Darling* I am hoping really hard over here like a crazy person!!
Happy reading!

ALL THE STARS for this one!!

gahhhhhhh, this was sooo good!!!

A possessive, obsessed hero who goes after the heroine and does whatever it takes to protect and care for her? A sweet, innocent, sheltered heroine on the run who just wants to be loved and belong?? YASSSS, please!!

Loved the writing, loved the characters, loved the chemistry these two had!

Safe. Hero’s past isn’t mentioned at all except to imply he’s celibate/doesn’t date. Heroine is a virgin and belongs only to her hero, gives him the gift of claiming all of her firsts. Very minor OM (unwanted fiancé) and very minor OW (hero gets a lot of attention from other women, doesn’t reciprocate their interest). No cheating or sharing. HEA with epilogue.

Enjoyed the book but was too short. It felt rushed at the end. I’m hoping June’s story is a bit longer, I really liked her character. 🩷

Overall a good book. 🥰

My reviews always contain spoilers, I write them so I can remember the story.

Paisley is an heiress, but a neglected one, her parents have had her sequestered away at boarding school and at an all women’s college practically her whole life. When she returns home after graduation she’s told she will marry an equally wealthy man. He’s someone that Paisley does not like, he gives her the creeps. So she runs away.
Jackson a former Navy Seal owns a premier security firm, her family asks Jackson to find her. When his employee and fellow Seal Blue finds her he tells Jackson that she has run to his hometown. Jackson looks at her file for the first time and his whole world shifts. He knows that this princess is his and he’s going to go claim her.
Paisley has been working at a local bar in town, she’s shy and a bit clumsy but the owner likes her and because she’s beautiful, she’s good for business. She has made friends with a girl named June, who happens to be Jackson’s little sister. When Jackson comes back to town June, who’s super observant and smart, figures out it’s for Paisley and she worries Paisley is in trouble but Jackson reassures her he’s here to protect her.
Paisley is equally attacked to Jackson when she sees him at the bar the first time. June introduces then and after her shift Jackson insists on walking Paisly to her hotel where he has set it up so she has to leave her room due to a leaky pipe. Jackson takes her home to his place. Paisley has diabetes and Jackson takes such good care of her, making sure she fed and gets her her medication when she needs it.
Lots of fun sexy times without full on sex because Jackson wants to make sure she knows everything before he has sex with her.
When her parents become desperate to find her they hire additional people and her supposed fiancé comes looking for her. But so does her brother, Luka who is a tech wizard who also works for the US government. When Luka shows up to get her Jane thinks he’s going to hand her back to her parents and intervenes. Luka is intrigued by Jane and says she’s coming with them since she won’t leave Paisley’s side. Jackson arrives and these two alphas face off but the ladies defuse and hostility and Jackson confesses his love and tells Paisley she’s his. She was hurt thinking Jackson was only with her because of her parents.
He tells her everything and she forgives him, they finally have their first time together. I love yous and a proposal. Epilogue five years later with two little boys and Paisley pregnant with their third little boy.
The fiancé was shady and Jackson with his team discover dirt on him and her family and he uses it to throw ex fiancé in jail and keep her parents away from her.
Looking forward to Jane and Luka’s story.
Was a cute instalove story, one small error, in the first description of Paisley she has long black hair later her hair is described as gold touched with platinum glints.

A cute little story about a runaway heiress and the tough man who's been hired to find her but what he really finds is forever love in his small town.

I liked the contrast between his possessiveness and her innocence à la damsel in distress. Even better, he's really protective of her since the beginning. She's got a condition and he makes sure she is cared for and safe and healthy. Swoony.

There's time for town life, family relationships, trust issues, sweetness and hotness. Also, a little peak of drama to highlight the secrets that have pushed them together as fate works its romantic magic. I enjoyed it all. And it's got the kind of epilogue I crave :-)

I can’t rate this author enough, it’s like she’s crawled into my mind, her stories are always fantastic. She writes a beautiful read that is pure romance without all the over top drama that seems to be a given with other authors.

The way she writes her leads is flawless. The male leads are awesome. They are men, strong, protective, and act like a man.

Her female leads are relatable and likeable. I swear there is nothing she hasn’t written that I have not fallen in love with. What she manages to put into her books is a credit to her. Quick reads, but you’re never let down.

It’s a yes from me.

Potentially offensive items: sexism, nudity, adult situations, premarital sex, sexually explicit, attempted rape, offensive language/ profuse swearing, drug/alcohol, violence, mature themes, lying, dysfunctional family

My pet peeve is when erotica is marketed as romance. Sex doesn't really sell, but plotless books with long, detailed descriptions of sex are far easier to put out than real books. I, personally, find Jackson's possessiveness and stalker mentality to be creepy. He sees her picture and uses all his resources to have her in his bed within a couple days--the same day she meets him. That his family and friends see nothing wrong with this creepy behavior is mind-boggling--not to mention this supposedly innocent girl is willing to let him do anything he wants, like some dumb blonde. 3/4 of this short book is one extended sex scene with a few breaks for her to go to work, and it ends The little bit of story that appears between all the sex scenes doesn't always make sense. You never find out what happened to her parents, brother, or Bentley.

This was a sugary sweet story about a heiress on the run from a family trying to marry her off to a bad man. I think it might have been nice to get to see a bit more on the man Paisley was being married off to as we really don't get an idea of how bad he actually is, just hints. Paisley was adorably innocent and clumsy, you can't help but love her. Jackson meanwhile was everything you want in a hero. Alpha male, strong and take charge. See's a picture of Paisley and falls right away. I loved his sister who steals the show right when we meet her. Based off the fireworks we get when Paisley's brother comes to town, I can't wait to see how June and him interact in their book.

This was quick and sweet. Just what I wanted. Not everything was resolved though, like the issue with her hotel room was never owed up by the MMC. Small error of changing the colour of the FMCs hair and if it was because she dyed it trying to hide herself it was never mentioned.

POV: Dual, 1st person.
SERIES or STANDALONE: 1st in series, can be read as a standalone.
TROPES: M/F adult, age gap?, small town, roommates romance.
SIZE: 144 (last page) Kindle pages.

My rating: 4.6 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨This one was so captivating to read! If you’ve picked up anything by Lucy Darling you know she does romance so well, and we always get the most obsessed men which is always a plus. Paisley ran away from an arranged marriage, but she ends up in a small town that just so happens to be a Jackson, the private investigators, town. I mean, can you say a match made in fate. Their chemistry was off the charts the first time they came face to face, and the rest was all sweet and steamy.

It was a cute read but a couple things bugged me: In the beginning when he the MMC sees her the MFC picture she has long black hair and green eyes. Later she has dark blue eyes and her hair is gold. That inconsistent description was a pretty big slip up. The writing itself was good it did feel like the story was cut off as opposed to be being a shorter story. He told his secretary he was off for a few days but we never saw him follow up that he was going to be longer or touching base on other clients. It would have been cool to see the conflict and more grovelling.

-No no no. Just so uncomfortable vibe. Too simple and crass even for a quick read novella.
Lots of “telling” no actual “showing”, just a rambling mess of info-dumps.
Lots of horn-dog comments by the MMC and lust-to-love-to-forever feels towards the TSTL FMC, who’s playing pretend as a waitress in a small town. Living at a seedy motel with Tigger, her prize breed cat and 3 pairs of jeans.
Oh, and she’s a diabetic with weight-issues and an unfortunate talent for saying less than intelligent things… To quote the FMC “Like, whAAAt?!”

Paisley is on the run so she doesn't get stuck in a loveless arranged marriage. But her family has a long reach so she can't slip up. But lucky for her Jackson, the one her parents hired to track her down, took one look and knew she was his. He would do everything in his power to protect her from anything. He just needed her to fall in love with him so she wouldn't leave when she found out who he was working for.

Absolutely perfect

I love all Lucy Darlings stories and this one was no different. Runaway heiress lands in the hometown of the security expert hired by her parents to find her. Once he sees her pic in the file all bets are off because he knows when fate has brought him his princess. Full of instalove, steamy scenes, family reconnections, and an HEA. Looking forward to her brother's story that was teased in this one.

Paisley and Jackson

I think this is the first book I've read by this author and it won't be my last. Paisley and Jackson have such a good connection you just want to find out more. I knew the fallout wasn't going to be that bad, I just knew it was going to hurt her. Other than that, their relationship is quite cute and mildly steamy. They do some naughty stuff before going all in.

kudos for the ty1d rep

the best thing about this book was realistically representing a fmc with a ty1d diagnosis.
it's respecting and correctly treated

other than that, the fmc is a caricature of little girl and the mmc a dominating cowboy.
At one point I found myself wondering how that would work and really dismissed it.
this book is pure escapism, and barely spicy. get your kicks from the masterful bossing I guess.

**This is an ARC review for my honest opinion.**

I was so happy that I received this and it's not a short read. You will love all of the chapters. Jackson and Paisley were absolutely ment for each other. I liked the fact that Jackson waited to be truthful with her before crossing into a more intimate relationship. Can't wait for his sister's story and Paisley's brother.

He’s Her Protector

Jackson has taken the assignment of finding someone’s missing daughter. He doesn’t give her a second thought until he sees her picture and it’s love at first sight. Then he sees her in person and she’s even better then her picture showed her.
Can he convince Paisley to forgive him for meeting her under false pretenses???
Great insta-love story!!!

So good

This was good from beginning to end. I loved the characters and their chemistry and connections. He was hired to find her and bring her to her family to be married to a bad man but once Jackson saw his Paisley or princess as he calls her he fell in love and decided to keep her for himself for ever. Fast paced

Jackson and Paisley are adorable. Jackson is hired to find Paisley after she ran away. One look at her picture and Jackson knew Paisley was his and he would do anything to keep her safe. Will Paisley forgive Jackson when she finds she was a job for him or will Jackson convince Paisley that she is his entire world.

Paisley is on the run, in hiding so to speak, from her over-bearing, controlling, rich parents. Jackson is hired by those over-bearing, controlling, rich parents to find her and bring her home. One look at her picture and it’s all over for Jackson. Instant possessiveness. And she’s just so cutesy! I loved it! Can’t wait for the next one
