My human Starlight Lottery bride was supposed to be a pawn, not become my most precious prize…
As the eldest prince of an ancient and regal orc bloodline, I should be focused on my lands and people. Instead, I’m constantly thwarting my family’s attempts to ensure that I produce an heir.
Having no interest in the wealthy, well-bred women my family keeps foisting upon me, I lose my patience and take things into my own hands.
I will marry. But it will be a woman from one of the weakest and most detestable races in the universe. I will marry a human.
But what begins as a malicious jab at my meddling family turns into something else entirely when Luna actually arrives. She’s lovely, tiny, and soft in a way that makes me feral with the need to protect her.
She looks at me with trusting eyes and sees a worthy husband. She thinks I truly wanted a bride. That I truly wanted her.
And the great, misguided joke of it all is… It turns out she is right.
Welcome to the Starlight Brides – where luck is optional, but the hot alien is guaranteed!
This is a sweet snack of a book that’s funny, steamy, and a delight. The H is a prince who’s inherited the throne after the death of his father and he’s being overwhelmed. His people’s crops are suddenly experiencing an unknown blight and his mother and sisters are trying to divert his attention from his duties to what they see as his other major duty - getting married. The H decides to join the mail order bride program as a snub to them and thinking he’ll be able to ignore his human bride. Well, that’s not quite how it goes.
The h entered the program because the existence she was eking out on a spaceship wasn’t working so hot. She arrives hopeful but is surprised when her groom marries her via proxy, isn’t there to greet her, and appears to be a ginormous grump. The H gets his own surprise because as soon as he sets eyes on his new wife, his whole attitude and priorities shift. It’s now imperative that she be happy and he wants to know things about her and spend time with her. Oh and she emits smells that trigger him to respond lol. His whole inner voice was just the best thing about this book, I was cracking up at it but also smiling goofily at some of the utterly adorable things he’d think too.
Their romance is very insta-love, still with some cute bonding moments. Both are also ready to get physically intimate right away so no waiting on the alien anatomy to make an appearance. I really enjoy how Ursa Dax writes these alien novellas where even though they’re not super deep, they have just enough to sink into where you can quickly become invested in the characters and root for them. Plus, she knows how to write some alien smut and this is no exception.
Plot-wise, the focus is on the relationship and the mystery of the blight, which is kind of obvious but still gets resolved. The h also gets a moment to shine as a problem-solver before then and contribute to her new people. The H’s earlier attitude does come back to bite him later in the book and some newlywed strife occurs. A grand gesture and heartfelt conversation leave the couple happy and in love. An adorable epilogue with a final touch of steam wraps it all up with a bow. I’d recommend this as a quick sci-fi read or as a palette cleanser.
Written in first person, dual POV. No ow drama, tiny blip of om drama from H’s cousin who says inappropriate things to h, and both characters are experienced but barely any info given, just enough to know they have been with others (though H has never been with a human before).
I desperately wanted to start the year with a good read to set the tone for 2026, you know? So obviously I had to read something by my queen, Ursa Dax. Luckily, she never disappoints.
This was such a fun read. Short, no third act breakup, and an engaging plot. I’ll never understand how she can keep her books so short without cutting back on any important plot elements. This was also much spicier than her Alien Cowboy series, which was a fun lil surprise 👀
4☆ Another sweet alien treat from Ursa Dax (thanks RL💚)
➳❦ I’d dream of her saying my name just that way forever. I’d never forget it. Not for as long as I lived. And even in the afterlife, I’d remember it, and I’d hold onto it until she one day came to join me there. 💕
These two. So cute and funny. A flippantly arranged intergalactic marriage leads to a true mate connection between a stressed out orc prince and a desperate human. I really liked Luna; she’s a genuinely kind, optimistic heroine who proactively works to find solutions for her new people, even though she’s never had much of anything before arriving in Orhalla. And I might not imagine my dream guy with green skin very often, but this huge besotted grump won me over. Despite the knot. *sigh*
➳❦ “Stop trying to stop holding my hand.” Ah. An eloquent and elegant sentence. Songs would be written of the great poet King Gal, who’d once ordered his new wife to stop trying to stop holding his hand. Right after he’d compared her face to cheese. 😂
The side characters were wonderful, especially Galbrath’s advisor and his rambunctious twin sisters. The villainous cousin sucked, but it was all pretty light. All in all, a short, fun ride through this universe that gets you invested quickly and leaves you a little warmer. 🥰
Bring back men yearning 2024!! Y’all he smells every change in her emotions and the way it tears him up inside when she’s even mildly distressed is the type of yearning I always subscribe to. I just wish this was longer I could’ve read at least a hundred more pages of them together.
Edit: this is the only one of this series I have liked so far. I attribute it to Ursa Dax being a fantastic writer fr
Galbrath was such a grumpy asshole and I loved him for it. He was dedicated to his people, but rather dismissive of feelings and love in general. Luna came in like the sunshiny wrecking ball she was and made him reprioritize some things. I loved that she flicked him to get him to stop scowling.
Spice: 4/5
Triggers: poverty, blood, mentions of famine, hunger, violence, imprisonment (off page, not of MCs), grief, mentions of risk of drowning, sexual harassment
This book got me out of one of the longest book slumps I've been in in quite a while. Cute as funny arranged marriage between an alien orc and a human. He was absolutely gone for her from the first look and THANKFULLY she wasn't like most humans in alien romances, she actually had sense so no nonsense fighting etc etc Really enjoyed this one
Erm, idk what to feel about this tbh. I think I've probably gotten used to the charming and swoonworthy cowboys from this author. So, jumping from them to this arrogant orc made my head spin a little.
Galbrath is the orc king, and his mother and sisters have been presenting potential brides to him to secure an heir. He wasn't interested in any of the women they suggested, so he decided to mock them by marrying a human (widely regarded to be one of the most pathetic and distasteful races).
So when he was informed that a wife had been found for him (like a mail-order bride thing), he sent his second-in-command to marry Luna by proxy. After that, she was sent to a private chamber far away from him so she would be out of his way.
Like I said, he wasn't interested in her at all, only in her purpose of giving him an heir. They met for the first time at the 23% mark, and this is where insta-something kicked in for him when he finally saw her. Then, after that dinner, he moved her to his chamber and still was a jerk to her (at times), but I guess he just can't help it.
There was some sort of separation in the sense that Luna slept in a different room after she found out why Galbrath married her. She was a romantic at heart and was hurt by his reason for agreeing to the marriage. So, she asked him for some space, which he gave her for two and a half days, even though he didn’t really want to. And in those short days, he made up for his mistake by planning their wedding and inviting her sister. After all, Luna wanted to have her own wedding, and he knew he failed to give that in the beginning.
Overall, I didn't enjoy this like I hoped to. This is way too insta, which I usually don't mind in novellas, but for some reason, it doesn't work for me here. Also, the chemistry between them wasn't even palpable. 🫣
Anyway, I guess we can never win it all, but I'm still going to check out her other books.
Book info: - Novella - Human x Orc - Insta-something - No cheating, OW - No V - OM (not really, his cousin tried to cause some drama by seducing Luna but it didn't work) - Separation (2 or 3 days, when she asked for space after finding out the reason why he married her) - HEA (married and pregnant)

DNF at 38% I'm sorry, this was just too silly for me. The humour was too 'Abbot and Costello', but without the good sense of timing. Another alien meets regular plump sized mediocre human woman and falls under her spell, story. With a token effort at cultural differences, but nothing paticularly clever or imaginative. And I can get behind that kinda thing at times. But what could have been entertaining is drawn out to the blah blah blah stage of bordom. I mean, it took ten pages for her to comically climb onto his lap at dinner. It was supposed to be farcical, but ended up just taking me out of the story. It felt like a stage set with less than ten actors going through the motions.
Galbrath, Prince of Orhalla, is sick of being told by his sisters and mother that it’s time for him to marry. He’s dismissed all orc noblewoman they’ve chosen and is tired of their meddling, opting instead to utilize the Starlight Bride Lottery program to show them how seriously he’s taking their request for his marriage. What he didn’t count on was a beautiful, intelligent human woman to be delivered as his bride, Luna.
Ooooh this was a good one! I loved our grumpy orc Galbrath and his love Luna! The orc characters were a fun change of pace, the relationship development was fun and that spice was spicin’!! I love this Starlight Brides series… this might be my favorite one so far! And I haven’t read it… but I think Ursa did a little Easter egg of her other book, Married to the Alien Cowboy. So good and hot!
Tropes in this story: ✨ Orc x human pairing ✨ Arranged marriage ✨ Reluctant groom ✨ Grumpy / sunshine
I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book via the author, but my review is all my own.
He was a total dick at first, but it was still cute ☺️

Seeking a better life, the characters sign up for new jobs. However, what they receive and what they expected are two different things.
This sci-fi paranormal tale follows Earth women as they discover their fated mates in the most unexpected places. It features humor and a longing for love that we can all relate to.
The series is written by different authors, each contributing their own unique spin on the concept of fated mates with unusual alien creatures.
Super cute! Very enjoyable. Wish it could have been longer, but i always wish these books were longer.
Enjoyed the constant mention of how she smells. I also like that he tried her seaweed dishes and that she was actively trying to find a solution to the wheat problem.
Loved that after his fuck up, he put in the absolute most work to make it up to her.
It was almost a 4 star but the ending really boosted it for me! Galbrath is a great hero! And i loved Luna the heroine!

Thank you to the author for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
What's not to love about a grump who's actually a big softie for his lady? Of course he's going to take her pins of out her hair but he's going to grumble about it the whole time.
Very cute story, loved the communication between the two MCs, and the very satisfying conclusion. Story felt quick, but is too be expected with the novel length. Great cozy read and Ursa Dax always delivers!
Galbrath is an orc prince concerned with a crop famine hitting his country. His family is trying to pick a wife for him so he decides to use a mail order bride system to shut them up and find a human wife he can basically ignore.
It was cute how instantly he was smitten with Luna. He’s attuned to her every smell and wants to fix every negative emotion in her life.
Since it’s a novella, it’s very instalove and not too big on the plot. I would’ve appreciated seeing them learning a bit more about each other, but it’s expected in a shorter story.
The Alien Orc’s Prize follows Luna, human, and Galbrath, alien orc (and Prince!) When Galbrath reaches his limit with his meddling family trying to secure a bride for him, he decides to order one instead. Enter Luna, completely unaware of how much Prince Gal doesn’t want a bride.
This was just delightful. Luna was the best, so relatable and honestly so easy going. She was enchanted by bread which was so endearing to me. Gal was a giant grumpy dude but it worked because I loved seeing him fall head over heels for Luna.
Overall, very cute and I wanted it to be a little longer so I could spend more time in the world!
I've liked the books in this brides series so far and I love Ursa Dax's Sea Sand Warriors series, but I just couldn't get on board with the MMC in this one.
He was tired of his family trying to set him up with orc women so he decides to join the brides program to spite his family, especially since humans are gross and pathetic. Of course things change once he meets our FMC but he's already too far into the jerkwad category in my opinion to forgive him. There really isn't any groveling even though there is a grand gesture at the end of the book and she doesn't hold a grudge like I do so she forgave him.
She should have dumped him and gone for his twin sisters in my opinion.
This book was a SOLID five star read! It was so well rounded and had everything you can expect from Ursa Dax's writing and more! While there were some aspects to this story that vaguely reminded me of her book Alien God (with the old fashioned setting), this story was completely fresh and unique from every other book she's written.
I seriously have so much love for this story! Galbrath was such a growly, grumbly MMC that you couldn't help but love! Luna on the other hand, was such a kind and tenderhearted woman who just wanted a chance at a better life. I loved how they came together and were starstruck at first sight. It was truly magical and heartwarming to witness!
Galbrath literally had me swooning and melting into a puddle sooo much throughout this book. He's like the MMC dreams are made of! His actions and words towards the end of the story literally caused tears to stream down my cheeks along with Luna's. He pulled at every single heartstring with how genuine he was in wanting to make things right with Luna. It was so freaking sweet!🥹
Beyond this, I really enjoyed the light humor in this book and how well thought out all of the side characters were. Seriously, everything about this book was just absolute perfection!! I highly recommend this one!
Thank you Ursa Dax for the opportunity to read this amazing addition to the Starlight Brides series. My thoughts and opinions are my own in this review.
"Songs would be written of the great poet King Gal, who’d once ordered his new wife to stop trying to stop holding his hand. Right after he’d compared her face to cheese." * "God, I could have kicked myself for falling asleep partway through. Hard. In the shin. Both shins." * "I was pretty sure it was when I got to the, “You’re the scones we want to eat! You are awesome, who needs wheat?!” bit that Galbrath settled himself behind me, stance wide, brawny bare arms crossed over his chest." * “When I first saw you, I already began to love you. When you dared to flick me on the forehead, it deepened. And then, when I saw how much work you went to in the kitchens, trying so hard to help my people, I knew that I could never be without you. I respect you.” The declaration was like a sword through my chest, left me breathless. “I admire you more than you could ever know.” * “He bent his head. His mouth was so close to mine I felt his words on my lips, making me shiver. “Luna, love. Will you marry me?” * "Finally, I patted his hands, smiled at him, and said, “Come on. Let’s get you bandaged up and go start the rest of our lives.” Then I flicked him on the forehead."
Broke and desperate for something better than mere existence, Luna applies for and is accepted as an alien bride. When her groom sends a proxy rather than show up himself to marry and escort her to his home planet, Luna is discouraged but determined to see it through.
Still mourning the loss of his father the king while feeling woefully inadequate for the task of succeeding him, Galbrath has rejected all the eligible females with which his mother has attempted to pair him.
What begins as a defiant show in choosing a human mate quickly becomes something much more precious than an ornamental vessel for his future heir as Galbraith finds himself enjoying his wife’s company.
This was a steamy, short read in this wonderful series that’s exactly what one would want in an alien-human instalove novella.
I was lucky to have received an advance reader copy from the author and bookfunnel, and I’m pleased to share my honest thoughts.
"How dare she come into my hall and freeze me to the spot this way?"
This book is the perfect Orctober read if you are in search of grumpy sunshine mixed with cute violence and a hero who is so head over heels for his woman. Gal is the Alphahole you will not hate trust me. It has big bad wolf vibes but I know my girlies out here asking me already CAN I PET THAT DAWG! Yes you can, and falling in love like Luna is already in the cards for you too. This Orc delivers and Luna is soooo adorable and the perfect fit for him. The suspense is a page-turner and I forgot the world for a while. Their passion is sizzling at you, tempting you to rethink your single life (this requires to be Single) for a moment so yeah, you are in for some fun. All my Alien Orc Romance Lovers this book is for you and should be your TBR because your TBR WANTS IT. IT BEGS FOR IT.
This was such a fun read! A perfect novella that was just good vibes, low angst and the insta-love I adore with alien romances - Gal and Luna were a pair of cuties and I loved their story. 🥰
My only wish was that it was longer - hopefully we can get some more stories from this world. 💜
Luna and Galbrath's love story is fun, quick read with a solid storyline and humour. I love Galbrath's grumpiness, suits perfectly with Lunas playful side. Ursa D weaved a perfect amount of pain to appreciate the well-deserved happy-ever-after. What I enjoyed the most was that even if the story was short, it never felt rushed. Well-paced, and Galbrath's grand gesture was *chefskiss*
I couldn’t put this book down! Ursa Dax is incredible at creating complex but endearing characters that just pull at your heartstrings and make you laugh and feel like you’re cozied up to a warm fireplace. So good!!
Loved this quick grumpy/sunshine, marriage of convenience orc/human romance. Spicy, great story with easy world setup and good character development that felt very organic.
