The examination of the rivalry teaches about States-ingrained greed, corruption, dishonesty and exploitation- so the real "take->away" is to what extent the Chinese immigrants were crucial to the wisdom and mechanics of the project and absolutely indispensible to it's completion despite being totally taken advantage of and treated unfairly.

since I never knew how the Transcontinental railroad was built, I also didn't realize how this was such an impossible task really was. I thought it was interesting that both the Union Pacific and the Central Pacific was at such a race against time to beet each other they made their tracks and bridges unsafe. What was amazing was that a normal train Engineer named Theodore Judah came up with a huge idea that will soon impact the world.

Read aloud to Emma and Will. Some interesting facts about building the transcontinental railroad. Graphic novels are challenging to read aloud sometimes, and this one more than others because of the length of the speech bubbles. Would have been better read to oneself.
