Do No Harm: Do No Harm Duology, 1

Rate this book
A 24-year-old female surgeon. A kidnapping. And the RMS Titanic.

Get ready to flip every trope you thought you knew about fantasy romance upside down.

Evelyn Waldron knows a surgeon should be saving lives. She also knows she has to do it in a corset and upper-class fashion. What she doesn't know, is why she survived a train crash that killed everyone else onboard.

Enter a new surgical professor and the mysterious owner of a brothel who start whispering morally grey magic into her ears, making her promises of a future she doesn't understand.

But it's not until she wakes up in an unknown place, with people she thought she knew, and sees magic for the first time, that she realizes her life will never be the same.

A sexual awakening, learning to use power, and a decision on the RMS Titanic is starting to convince Evie that she might be the morally grey character in the end.

“do no harm” well i was harmed during the reading of this book. i don’t think ive ever gone from
lukewarm interested to abject disdain so quickly in my life.

I…don’t think I would have ever picked up this book if I wasn’t such a lurid Titanic fan and that historical aspect of it perhaps irritates me the most - I mean don’t say you aimed for historical accuracy and apparently not be aware that the Titanic was never referred to as “unsinkable” until after the disaster. That’s a myth.

Suffice it to say I just didn’t like this. The story is disorganized, the writing is juvenile, it’s crammed with fanfiction tropes haphazardly fitted onto bland and poorly developed characters. It has some truly good concepts in, but the genre mixing doesn’t work and the “spice” is truly cringe, given that it’s somehow an enduring love story for the ages but also…your typical maudlin simpering virginity loss story where the inexperienced girl is toooooo tight and going to be hurrrrrrt but also saying things like “fuck me harder.”

It has vibes of Joss Whedon’s “The Nevers,” but it’s ultimately meandering empty wannabe viral
booktok-worthy slop. The characters are unconvincing and the pedagogy is sophomoric. I’m uninterested in reading book two.

At first the storyline can be a bit confusing because there’s some time jumping and I am not a history buff (you probably wont have this issue if you’re better versed on historical dates/timelines) so I was a little confused at the start and that made me slower to really dive into the book. Once the timeline and character development gets rolling though OH MY GOODNESS.

It’s so hard to find original concepts in this day and age of everyone producing and reading romantasy, but Sarah absolutely nailed it. I did not see the plot twists coming, and the spice was top notch.

If you’re confused in the beginning, keep pushing through, the pieces come together brilliantly.

Eager for book 2!!

I don’t usually write reviews but as an advanced reader, I had to comment. I love historical fiction and didn’t know how much I’d be into the fantasy and romance aspect but it really made this story that much more compelling. I think the main character’s sexual journey is really intriguing because you get to hear her inner thoughts and realize that she’s complex and not perfect. A lot of times, a main character feels fully formed at the beginning of the book but we get to grow along with her which made me really excited for the second book.

This book definitely was not what I expected. I did not see that it was going to be celestial beings controlling the world due to our stupidity. I was getting really irritated about half way through when we still were not on the Titanic and that's what I was expecting but the last 3/4th of the book I ate it up!!! I am excited to see what Dr. Kinsch has next in store for us.

This book had so many different fun elements- historical fiction, romance, fantasy, SPICE. Loved the strong protagonist and the ending. Curious where the author will go with the next book!

This was not a book that I would normally have read. To say it was interesting is a bit misleading. I would definitely read another book by this author
