He’s supposed to say “I do,” but will his heart say otherwise?

Tobias
You’d think working as a professional date at Foxy’s Rent-A-Date would be lonely and depressing, but it’s the opposite.
Not only do I get to live it up every night like it’s my last, but the clients are hot and they pay well—especially for my discretion.
So when an attractive and awkward Theo hires me so he can put his desires behind him before he walks down the aisle, I can’t say no.
When business and pleasure mix, I suddenly find myself wanting more. The question is, can I let myself have what I want even if it ruins someone else's life?

Theo
Getting married should be easy, but I need to know that I’m making the right decision. Which is why hiring Tobias from Foxy’s to date me—so I can get my curiosity out of my system—is a win-win. I get to walk away with a clear conscience, and he walks away with a hefty paycheck.
Except Tobias is perfect, and it’s not just an act.
Falling for my fake boyfriend while straddling the line of holy matrimony is a recipe for disaster, but now that I’ve had a taste of him, I’m not sure I can give him up.
Can I follow my heart even if it means destroying everything in my life? Or will I be forced to give up everything to keep the peace?

“No falling in love with me.” Impossible.

Could renting a date help Theo find out what he wants? What he could have?
Well, honestly, fuck Theo.
I’m okay with the cheating trope, I’m okay with him having a fiancée but discovering he likes men with Tobias. BUT, I’m not okay with him lying to Tobias about it, saying he broke off the wedding when he actually didn’t. Bro wanted to have his cake and eat it, too.

Lying to this man all to get laid? Fuck, that’s shitty.

Yeah, it really is.

I’m certain I’m one step away from this all blowing up in my face.

And yet, he did nothing to fix it. He kept feeling like an ass, but still lied to everyone until, surprise, it all blew up in his face.

But I didn’t quit, because I was still hoping for some quality grovel. There was none.

This wasn’t a terrible book per sé, I just really hated that whole set up, hated that the entire plot is about Theo lying and Tobias not knowing. The ending wasn’t satisfying, a rushed happy ever after for everyone.

I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review.

This book is well written but I just couldn’t get into Theo’s character of poor little rich lying boy.

Theo is about to get married to Marianne. Practically an arranged marriage between two rich families. The sex is .. ok but not satisfying. Theo does wonder if maybe …. But then he ignores those feelings.

‘It doesn’t matter what I want, though; it’ll never be accepted. That’s not how the Beaumonts do things. But I need to know…’

His friend Asher suggests Foxy’s rent-a-date , which is where Tobias works.

‘As an employee of Foxy’s Rent-A-Date, I get all kinds of people wanting dates, but there is a strict no-sex policy. However… that sometimes goes out the window.’

Theo really doesn’t want to marry Marianne.

Tobias and Theo meet up for a date in a restaurant . Theo is left speechless with how hot Tobias is.

‘You’re being rude, Theo. So fucking rude. This man was nice enough to grace you with his otherworldly beauty, and here you are just ignoring him.’

Theo confesses his confusion and that he thinks he’s gay. Tobias takes him to a gay bar.

Theo doesn’t know if he can choose his own happiness by not marrying Marianne. He’ll lose his parents and their financial support, they will fire him from his very cozy 10 hour job as COO that he is over paid for , and will write him out of their wills. He’s not sure happiness is worth more than the financial support, or if he could survive without it.

Tobias and Theo have another paid date and decide to be friends for free. Even though there is definitely sexual attraction.

They both have crappy Thanksgiving with their families then meet up to go have fun with Tobias friends at the gay bar. Spin the bottle playing leads to their first kiss.

‘Sex is better when you have chemistry. There’s no denying we do. I thought it before, but if that kiss was any indication, well, it’s pretty damn serious.’

Big life decisions . Theo wants to call off the wedding but keeps holding off.

Oh sheesh. Theo decides little white lies won’t hurt but he’s being so selfish. Tobias has strong feelings about cheating so won’t touch him while he’s engaged to Marianne. So Theo decides to tell Tobias that he ended things.

This is not going to end well.

‘Last night with Tobias was fun, hot, amazing, and a ton of other positive adjectives, but do I really want to ruin my life for a friends-with-benefits situation? I mean, that doesn’t seem right. It’s not really worth it. Destroying everything for a little bit of sex?’

I am actually starting to really not like Theo.

Marianne even gives him a freaking out and he doesn’t take it!

Tobias tells Theo he was cheated on and why it’s such a hard line for him.

Theo’s dad gives him news which makes him feel like he can’t call off the wedding.

The lies are starting to unravel.

Tobias tells Theo he’s ready to try a relationship, not knowing Theo is still engaged.

So now Theo has a fiancée and a boyfriend. I feel stressed!

“I’m glad I met you,” he whispers so quietly I hardly hear him. “I feel my soul healing when I’m with you.”

Theo you absolute spineless dick, you are going to absolutely wreck my precious Tobias.

Marianne eventually catches them in the act and Tobias finds out he never called off the wedding.

“You get to go back to your perfect little life in the wake of this mess, while I’ll be picking up the shattered pieces of my heart for the rest of my goddamn life.”

Marianne, the absolute sweetheart, offers to help him get Tobias back. Jesus Theo, you don’t deserve either of them!

It’s been a month or so and Tobias hasn’t heard from or seen Theo. It has Tobias spiraling and fucking up his life.

Theo and Marianne tell their families the wedding is off and chaos descends.

After six weeks, Theo tricks Tobias into a paid Valentine’s Date. Tobias walks out.

They miss each other and work it out.

“If ever there were a piece of shit that was the worst piece of shit, I’m worse than that. What the fuck am I doing with my life? Other than weaving a disaster of epic proportions, that is.”

This quote sort of sums up Theo for most of the book. He is the epitome of trying to have your cake and eat it. Blaming Tobias for his cheating annoyed the hell out of me. ‘If he could promise me a relationship, I wouldn’t be doing what I’m doing, blah blah blah’.

In the beginning, you feel empathy for Theo. I’m sure there are a lot of people who are living a lie out there to please other people, so I could understand his need to feel something that was just for himself. But Tobias made himself very clear from the start, and Theo’s actions from that point on can’t be excused. I feel like in the end Tobias was the one who really got the raw end; Theo’s actions ended up helping everyone but him.

It’s a cautionary tale about lying, cheating, and facing the consequences. Although Theo gets his happy ending, he has to pay a price to get there, learn a lot about himself, and face some truths. He’s selfish, a little spoiled, and, knowing what he knew about Tobias, a little cruel.

However, he was also scared; his mistakes were made because he had other people in his thoughts as well as himself. However misguided it was.

There are some very strong opinions in this book and some language that I’m not all that comfortable with, but I guess different words have different meanings depending on where you’re from.

Despite the theme of this book, I really enjoyed it. It was written well. I feel like your emotions are directed well. Lessons are learned, and there’s a moral to the story.

Tobias: An MM Rent-A-Date Novel was a first time read for me by new-to-me author Penny Fox and it didn't disappoint on the cute and slightly angsty front!

This was Tobias and Theo's story and while is does end up in a HEA, there are some big bumps along the way, and a cheating trope to contend with.

What To Expect:

🖤MM romance
🖤Gay awakening
🖤Steamy first times
🖤Fake dating
🖤All the feels
🖤Cheating (not between MCs)
🖤Some mild angst
🖤HEA

Loved it 😍

3.5/5 stars 3.5/5 spice

Man oh man, Theo did not deserve Tobias’ forgiveness that quickly and without any proof of actual change. My man Tobias deserved better. He opened up to Theo and made it clear how much he hated cheating and how it’s affected him, and Theo continued to lie to him about breaking up with his fiancé. It honestly felt like he would have never of come clean to either one of them if he hadn’t gotten caught, which was pretty disappointing.

I did like seeing Tobias gradually warm up to being in a relationship again after how badly hurt he was from his previous one. All of his friends that would hang out at the bar were great but Nathaniel was my favourite with his very affectionate personality. Asher was also a good friend to Theo but I’m still confused about how he figured how Tobias was the one Theo had rented a date with, that was never really explained.

My other surprising favourite character was Marianne. Theo had also betrayed her but she took well and was even his biggest supporter.

Overall, I enjoyed reading this and found it hard to put down just waiting for things to blow up in Theo’s face.

- Rents a date with MMC
- Queer awakening
- Cheating (not between MCs)
- Dog dad
- In their 30’s

Firstly, thank you to the Author for allowing me to adv read Tobias & Theo’s story!

Now, I’m not a huge MM reader, I don’t get many opportunities to read MM romances so this one’s one of very few I have been able to read.

I found their story to be emotional, cute & sexy!

Spoilers incoming:
Theo is going through a sexual awakening, after being engaged to his wife-to-be for a couple of years (forced really by family)
So to help him figure things out, he goes to Foxy’s Rent A Date and books a date with Tobias. Sure enough, he starts to feel things he’s never felt with anyone else and the rest is history! But now he’s got to figure out how to tell his loved ones how he feels about everything.

I enjoyed their story, the authors writing style, the spice was spicing and everything fit in perfectly! I enjoyed their book so much, I read around 300 pages in one sit in 🥰
Cant wait to read more of the Foxy’s Rent A Date series!

Another fantastic story from Penny Fox. I loved Tobias and Theo, though I wanted to smack some sense into Theo a bit. I understand where he was coming from and how his family ruled his life but the little lies he shared became too much. Tobias and Theo had great chemistry and their relationship was so good. I loved their friends, Tobias' were so fun and Marianne was so supportive of Theo.
In the end, two broken people learned to love themselves and others.

Holy moly!! 🥵🥵🥵🥵

Theo is in an arranged marriage, except he’s not totally sure he even likes women. When he meets Tobias, he knows he can’t go through with the marriage, but that means he will hurt everyone around him.

This book was so sweet!!! I was totally rooting for Theo and Tobias! 😍😍

2.75/5 stars! I'm giving this book 2.75 stars because the writing was compelling, the spice was spicy, and I liked Tobias. Theo can get f*cked as far as I am concerned. I had to do DNF at 54% in, after trying to keep going 3 times. There is angst and then there are characters that don't deserve a happy ending because they're being scumbags. Theo is apparently totally fine cheating on his fiance and lying to Tobias because "doesn't he deserve to be happy?" Like no one said you didn't; but cheating AND lying to your new partner is not it. I am so turned off right now I want to gag. So... if you don't have issues with cheating, you'll likely enjoy this more than I did.

Utterly beautiful. I am so in love with this book I almost don't know where to start. It isn't simply the characters though Penny Fox has crafted them perfectly, I think it is everything about the book, it is who they are, where they come from and see themselves going in life but also how incredibly real they are. Some readers could find themselves having issues with the suggestions of lying and possibly cheating but for me that did not make any of the characters questionable, well apart from the awful Brandon but he is something else entirely and intended to be the unpleasant one!

Tobias is a professional. He is a date for hire and he really enjoys it, he sees the way that he can make a difference for people, he can really help them find confidence, face situations, such as business dinners, without having to flail around alone, there is a lot to be said for what he does and it makes him a nice amount of money that he can put by too. After all it is his second job. His primary one is as a PT and he loves that one too. He is a man who has a lot to give and these are the ways that he has found to do it. The only problem is that his boss is the unpleasant Brandon, his ex, and that he might be falling for a date, against all his own rules.

Theodore is months away from being married to a family friend, his long time fiance and girlfriend in what is essentially a relationship which has been manufactured by both their families since they were both small. Luckily he and his fiancee are best friends, she is an incredibly understanding person and, because their families are old fashioned they don't live together - not that that stops them from nights spent together! Theodore works for the family business, is expected to marry, have his own family, make Marianne a stay-at-home-mother and continue as his family have always done. But he has doubts especially when his dreams become more and more vivid and always feature men. His best friend Asher suggests a date with a man to see if it is all real or just nerves. The rest, well the rest is the story of Tobias and Theo, it is theirs to tell, not mine, suffice to say that it is heartwarming, at times heart-wrenching but so incredibly beautiful you will find yourself crying happy tears.

I knew I loved Penny Fox as an author from previous books, this one has sealed that irrevocably, I am hooked, the characterisation, the messages, the sheer beauty of the story and writing, this is one of my forever books.

Questioning your sexuality when you're already engaged

Theo is engaged to his best friend and while they love each other they are not really in love. They are pretty much in an arranged marriage. However, when Theo starts to have more and more vivid dreams about being with men he starts to wonder what is wrong with him.

Enter Tobias and Foxy's rent a date. Theo figures if he just goes on a date with a man he can see how wrong it would be and get back on track with his life as planned by his parents.

Tobias is happy just going on dates where he never has to risk his heart. After his last boyfriend cheated on him he has a genuine mistrust and refuses to date for himself.

When Theo shows up for his date with Tobias tings are so painfully awkward. It's enduring and funny and a date they will never forget. Theo is honest about why he is there and that he is engaged but questioning everything.

The connect these two make is pretty immediate though unexpected. Tobias finds he actually wants to hand out with Theo and offers a friendship.

Will Theo tell his fiancee what's going on so they can move forward? Yeah we already know that isn't how it goes. Will Theo's fearsband lies lead to him losing absolutely everything he had as well as what he thought he could have?

This book was beautifully written. The progression of the relationship was done really well with the underlying fear of it all crashing down. I absolutely hated Theo and his lies but at the same time I understood that he was terrified. He grew up a spoiled rich kid who worked for the family company and if he choose himself he would lose everything.

I absolutely love the fiancee and the way their friendship worked so well. When she catches Theo and Tobias together her reactions are perfect for what is going on.

There are so many sweet moments in this story and while it was cheating and I don't condone what Theo did and wish he had gone about it a different way the relationship was undeniably beautiful.

I can't wait to see what's next in this shared world.

Colour me surprised—and mildly emotionally bamboozled. I opened Tobias expecting the usual Penny Fox-brand anarchy: razor-sharp wit, dark edges, and characters who teeter on the brink of delightful madness. What I got instead was…a heartfelt detour through small-town emotional purgatory. And you know what? I didn’t hate it.

Our dear Tobias is not quite the feral gremlin I’ve come to expect from Fox’s chaotic brainchildren. He’s softer. Bruised. Dare I say—relatable.

And then there’s Theo. Theodore-silver-spoon-in-his-mouth-the-third, practically. The golden boy firstborn of a very wealthy and influential family, who’s had everything in life handed to him—except, apparently, a working emotional compass. Watching him flail through his feelings was like watching a thoroughbred try to read poetry: elegant, impressive, and absolutely not what it was bred for. He’s used to getting what he wants, but when it comes to Tobias… the poor little rich boy finds himself completely out of his depth.

Both of them spend a considerable portion of the book marinating in their own angst, more committed to miscommunication than emotional growth. But credit where it’s due: Ms. Fox doesn’t write cardboard. These men are maddeningly real—flawed, frustrating, and full of feelings neither they (nor we) asked for.

Still, it’s the supporting cast that absolutely slaps. Tobias’s coven of ride-or-die banshees? Iconic. Theo’s almost-wife Marianne? Give that woman a spinoff, a cocktail, and a crown. They steal every scene like magpies in designer heels.

So, is this Fox at her darkest and most delicious? No. It’s a different flavour—more tender, a bit more wine-on-the-porch than whiskey-in-the-alley. But even when she softens, Penny (or Quell, or whoever she decides to be before breakfast) still delivers layered characters, snappy dialogue, and the kind of emotional mess that feels weirdly cathartic.

I loved Tobias—but here’s hoping the next one brings back the barely-contained chaos, unfiltered snark, and deliciously damaged demons we know and adore. I miss the madness, darling.

This book was so sweet and full of emotion—I absolutely adored Tobias and Theo’s story. Their chemistry? Instant. Their connection? Deep. Their journey? Complicated but completely worth it.

Theo is stuck in an arranged engagement, trying to live up to his family’s expectations even while quietly questioning his own identity. When he meets Tobias—confident, caring, a literal date-for-hire with a heart of gold—everything starts to unravel in the most beautiful, messy way.

I wanted to shake Theo a few times, but I also understood him. The pressure he’s under, the lies he tells himself and others—they’re all rooted in fear and duty. And that made his growth, and the way he eventually starts choosing himself, so satisfying.

Tobias is such a standout. Between his two jobs (PT by day, companion-for-hire by night), his awful boss/ex Brandon, and his own emotional boundaries, he’s not exactly looking for love—but he finds it anyway. And the way he shows up for Theo, even when it hurts? Loved him.

There is some lying and secrecy that might frustrate certain readers, but for me, it didn’t take away from the story. The characters were flawed but trying, and that made their happy ending all the more earned.

Also, a shoutout to the side characters—Tobias’s friends were hilarious, and Marianne? Honestly, a gem. The kind of fiancée you wish every closeted queer character had—supportive, selfless, and fully her own person.

Expect:

- Forbidden romance
- Date-for-hire falls for his client
- Queer awakening
- Family pressure + identity struggles
- Found family & loyal friends
- Slow-burn love that heals

By the end, you’ve got two people who are a little broken, learning to love themselves and each other—and it’s beautiful. Bittersweet in moments, but full of warmth and hope. Cried happy tears and would do it again.

Ok.. I've got feelings on this one. First of all, I'll come right out and say the trigger warnings for this involve cheating (not between mcs) and lying. This is not everyone's cup of tea, and it hasn't always been mine unless it is done well. I've recently read other books involving similar tropes and was throughly unhappy, but while this story provoked A LOT of angry yelling at my book 🤬, aggressive name calling toward one of the mcs 🖕and a good amount of passive aggressive eye rolls at him 🙄, I never hated him. Honestly, Theo is a guy who grew up rich and spoiled and is incredibly afraid of losing that to go after what he wants. He's a coward for a good portion of the book, no doubt about it, but he never denies that. He owns all of his worst qualities, and, if I'm honest, a lot of his crappy qualities are qualities I probably possess as well. Things happen, characters react (sorry i dont want to actually spoil things 😘), and by the end of things, even after spending so much time being angry with him, I really didn't hate Theo by the end. If for no other reason than I wanted him to prove himself to be worthy of the love of Tobias. Oh, Tobias.. how could anyone not fall in love with you?! You are sweet, funny, caring, wonderful, and an all-around class act 😍.
As for the spice? This book comes from Penny Fox, so you know it be spicing 🥵🌶🔥! Watching Tobias and Theo navigate from hired date to friendship to more was not only entertaining and steamy, but beautiful. Sure, you have, honestly, one super imperfect man 🤣🤷‍♀️, but both characters grow throughout this book and end up where they need to be.

Oh, I don't even know how to start this... It's hard since I really liked some things, but disliked with a passion others.

I will start by saying that this book is not for everyone. The cheating trope ( not between MCs but between MCs, it's a mess ) is going strong in this one, so if it's not your cup of tea, then don't...

Theo is a mess of epic proportions, and while I felt his struggles, from one point onwards, it was hard to root for him. He was lost, a people pleaser through and through, but he was also spoiled and selfish. I understood his fears. it's hard to get rid of all that when you live in a lie, but don't drag others with you. Tobias did not deserve that.

Tobias is an absolute sweetheart. I love him so much it's not even funny. Unlike Theo, he knows his limits, and while he works in the field of paid dating and stuff, he has some principles he doesn't want to break. Good for you.

I loved reading about the way Theo and Tobias fell in love with each other, how they went from one paid date to friends to lovers, but sometimes it was hard not to throw my Kindle out the window when Theo kept making stupid decisions.

In the end, it all worked out, but I feel like Tobias deserved more. Not necessarily more as in someone better than Theo ( which, let's be honest, we all thought that at some point in the book ), but more from Theo... if it makes sense.

Overall, I enjoyed this book, I get why things happened a certain way, but it still made me furious during my read. Because of this, I'd say 3.75-4✨️ is the max I can give it. I still recommend it, but remember what I said? Cheating is a big part of this book, so keep that in mind.

Tobias is the first book in the Rent A Date shared world series. It is a MM Romance with a few possible triggers and a small amount of spice.
From the moment I heard about this shared world series, I was excited. It takes place in Seattle, somewhere that I have been. If a book is set in a real life place, I really like when it is somewhere I have experience in. The familiarity helps me connect with the storyline. I adore a good professional dating/spicy worker trope, Rent A Date promises to give us many different scenarios of this. Knowing all this, I was shocked to how long it took me to get pulled into Tobias. The writing is well done with a lot of details. The plot is interesting with a smooth flow. I enjoyed the way the characters back stories were weaved into the current story, seamlessly without a ton of flashbacks. Tobias and Theodore, the main characters, are likeable and even somewhat relatable. I loved their chemistry from the very beginning. There were several side characters that I hope get their own stories. The one thing I was not a fan of was how slow the progression of the story felt. Several times I thought we had reached the climax of the plot, only to get yet another step in the lead up. It made the story seem a little long and repetitive at times, but it did eventually reach the turning point and then the story took off and quickly wrapped up.
Overall I found this to be a sweet and angsty MM Romance with a little spice. It was well written and enjoyable.

"It's okay to give him another chance, you know."

I enjoyed reading this book. I was excited when it hit my email this morning and I didn't put it down. I absolutely love Tobias. Theo, for me, was hit and miss. He irked me in moments and I loved him in others.

The biggest reason this wasn't a 5⭐️ read for me was because of how Theo was portrayed especially in the beginning sland throughout the middle of the book. I completely understand his hesitency with coming out to his family, and wondering how his decision would affect everyone else. BUT he is a silent COO for his families company and earns a salary. You mean to tell me he couldn't take that money and rent him a place to live. He was so worried about being cut off but he's an adult, not a young guy. It was just very aggravating.

I would have loved to see more of a resolution when Tobias and Theo finally get together in the end, instead of just Theo promising that everything had been resolved and Tobias taking him at his word. Idk.. some things just kind of seemed unfinished in ways for me. And it took having to wait till 78% into the book before everything comes out. So, Theo was cheating and trying to 'figure out his life's for more than half the book. I will be reading the rest of the books though in this shared world.

Brandon needs a junk 🤛, Marianne was a godsend, and I hope Nathanial finds love 💕

Theo and Tobias . . .

Theo Beaumont is engaged to his best friend Marianne. They are close friends, but he has doubts about what he is getting into as his repeated dreams suggest he needs to confirm this marriage is the right choice for him. The marriage has been arranged by the families for business purposes, and he just wants to be sure about what he is committing to. So he decides to use a Rent-a-Date to make sure of his decision. Theo figures that by dating a man, he will get it out of his head, will discover if he is making a mistake marrying Marianne, or just having crazy dreams that will go away.

Theo’s date, Tobias, is comfortable just meeting strangers and being there for them. He was cheated on in the past and is no longer willing to risk his heart by falling for someone. He instead enjoys meeting new people, sitting down to dinner with them, and listening to their story. It’s sort of like being a therapist for them. Sometimes they are just lonely and want companionship. He gets paid for dating and that is all he needs for himself. But when he meets Theo, the two of them get along well and actually like each other, enough to become real friends. Would things progress further between them? Would Theo give up the wealth his family offers him and choose love instead? And how will his fiancee Marianne react to the situation?

I have mixed opinions about this book.

On the one hand, I liked it. It's well-written, it has the necessary ingredients: some fun, hot, spicy moments, some angst and drama, etc. I also like how it exposes one of the MCs' doubts about his sexuality, although I'm not sure I like the methods he chose to prove it. But I understand the family pressure, the expectations, and why he felt cornered and not knowing what to do.

And here's the part I don't like.

Warning, there may be SPOILERS!

It's understandable that he would lie to his fiancee; it's not the best thing to do, but it's understandable. Now, to also lie to the person you're cheating with, knowing how much they suffered and how against the cheating they are? Tobias didn't deserve that treatment (by the way, neither did Marianne).

I didn't like the ending much either. I would understand if Tobias chose to continue his escort work and that's why he keeps going on dates, but doing it just for fun? Okay, it's just dates, no sex involved, but... isn't dating just with your partner enough fun?

Anyway... Good book. And as I always say, this is just my opinion. Just because it didn't work out great for me doesn't mean it won't work well for others, so please read it!

I was given an advanced copy and voluntarily wrote a review.

OMG! I fucking loved tobias and Theo!! They stole my heart right out the gate. Yes there was definitely moments where I wanted to slap Theo fucking silly, like how could you, just how? Our poor tobias doing him dirty like that, even with him bearing his soul to you. Dirty little fucker, but I still love him! It's such a beautiful journey they go on but it's not without a few heavy bumps in the road.

I couldn't put it down once I started, there was no putting it down for me at all. I was captivated from the start to the end. It's such a rollercoaster of emotions that had me on the edge of my seat. It's action packed with never a dull moment.

The characters, storyline, plot and side characters where wonderfully written and penny's writing is just amazing the way she sucks you in and never lets go, she makes you feel everything they feel and more.

I can't wait to read more from her. Highly recommend!!!!

FAV QUOTES ⬇️⬇️

“I’m glad I met you,” he whispers so quietly I hardly hear him. “I feel my soul healing when I’m with you.”

“If ever there were a piece of shit that was the worst piece of shit, I’m worse than that. What the fuck am I doing with my life? Other than weaving a disaster of epic proportions, that is.”

Where to start. I have kind of mixed feelings about this book. I loved Tobias, he is straight forward knows what he wants and acts in accordance to that. Then there is Theo, who absolutely messes up everything. The ending was good, I love a HEA, but it was a long winding painful road to get there.
Theo is unsure of his sexuality so he rents a date, Tobias, before he's getting married. Their relationship goes from client-friend-lover- happily ever after. Theo has no spine and it seems like he can't make a single desition on his own. Tobias don't want to get involved until Theo is single. He hates cheating and it's a hard limit for him, but Theo make up a lot of "white" lies to keep both his new boyfriend and his fiance, Marianne. Then everything is crumbling down and Theo has to take responsibility for his actions. Luckily he has good friends to help him out.
This book was actually really good, I just wasn't on the same page as Theo for most of the book. I do understand his insecurities and difficulties. In the end everyone was forgiven and I guess he learned his lesson coming out a better person in the end. The book was well written, the language was good and it absolutely was a nerve-wracking read from beginning to the end.

ARC Review

I was thrilled to join the ARC team for Tobias, the first book in Foxy's Rent A Date Series, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint! With 24 books lined up in this series, I can already predict a year filled with joy and excitement.

From the very start, Tobias grabbed my attention—it was almost nonstop action! I loved how the story unfolded, especially with Theo trying to figure out his life before getting married. The dynamic between him and Marianne was refreshingly unique; their ability to navigate challenges while maintaining a sense of happiness was captivating.

The writing style of Penny Fox is engaging and immersive, making it easy to become invested in the characters. The themes of bi-awakening, FWB to lovers, and found family resonate beautifully throughout the narrative.

As for the blurb, it perfectly encapsulates the tension between wanting to explore one's desires and the weight of commitment. The chemistry between Tobias and Theo is electric, and the question of whether Theo can follow his heart adds an intriguing layer to the story.

In short, Tobias is a fantastic start to this series, and I am absolutely hooked! I can't wait to dive into the next installment. If you're a fan of contemporary romance with a twist, this book is a must read!

At first, I felt empathy for Theo. It’s easy to imagine how many people out there are living a lie just to meet others' expectations, and I could understand his desire to experience something real—something that belonged only to him.

However, once Tobias made his boundaries and intentions crystal clear, Theo’s continued actions became inexcusable. While Theo’s choices ended up benefiting nearly everyone involved, it felt like Tobias was the one who paid the highest price for it all. He got the raw end of the deal, and that didn’t sit well with me.

This story works as a cautionary tale about deception, infidelity, and the consequences of one’s choices. Yes, Theo ultimately gets his happy ending, but not without a cost. He’s forced to confront painful truths, learn about himself, and pay a personal price. Still, he came across as selfish, somewhat entitled, and—considering what he knew about Tobias—a bit cruel.

In my opinion, Theo didn’t earn Tobias’ forgiveness so easily, especially without demonstrating meaningful change. Tobias deserved better.

The secondary characters were a bright spot, adding depth and personality to the story. But overall, I struggled to connect with Theo, which made it hard to fully enjoy the book.

What a wonderful book. Tobias and Theo are perfect for each other although their journey isn't an easy one. The writing is fast paced, the relationship develops organically, and the plot moves well. The physical scenes are incredibly sensual and well written. There is sensitivity as Tobias introduces Theo to making love to a man. It's not clinical, it occurs well into their relationship transitioning from business, to friendship, to love. This author can really create HOT scenes that are not gratuitous but rather a natural reflection of the characters physical and emotional attraction.

The supporting characters are the kind you want to hang out with at the bar. They have depth and are not just fillers. I can't wait to read their stories in the coming months.

This book looks at making choices and taking risks. And about how having the right person beside you makes all the difference.

Great start to a series with a relatively unique concept. Strong recommendation from this reader!.

Tobias is book one of the Foxy's Rent A Date Series.

I really liked Tobias. He had such great morals that he was very strict with. He has been hurt in the past and didn't want to jump into a relationship with someone else who could hurt him. He also holds a family secret and takes the berating of his sister, who doesn't know the truth. He was that kind of a person that he let his mother seem like a good person when she had done something very wrong.

Theo was slightly different. I get he was questioning about his sexuality. But he really went about it the wrong way. He just needed to man up a bit and put things on the right trajectory before he caused so many people so much pain. He does grow up a bit and take accountability for his actions by the end of the book, but it is a rocky road for a bit.

Love, love, love all of the side characters. The friends each character had were kind and caring and were just solid supports for them. Tobias was a great character and I loved seeing him get some happiness in his life.

I love a good series, and Tobias by Penny Fox kicks things off with an absolute stunner. My whole heart belongs to Tobias—I was right there with him as he tried to navigate the mess of complicated, frustrating, utterly relatable Theo. My feelings for Theo tread that razor-thin line between love and hate—but honestly, that’s exactly what makes him feel so real.

Tobias is surrounded by success—two dream jobs, an exciting dating life—but none of it fills the ache left by heartbreak… or the sting of constantly running into his vindictive ex.

Theo, on the other hand, is fighting a daily battle within himself. Engaged to his longtime best friend through an arranged marriage, he’s desperate to figure out whether the fire he feels with Tobias is real—or just cold feet.

Neither of them planned for this. Neither of them wanted this. But the chemistry between them? It’s electric—burns hot and melts straight into your soul.

Penny Fox absolutely nailed this start to the series, and I cannot wait to see where it goes next.

Tobias A Foxy's Rent-A-Date Novel by Penny Fox
⭐⭐⭐⭐

💙 MM
💙 Standalone
💙 Opposite sides of the tracks
💙 Eggplant Count 2
💙 Micro trope he C.u.M.s in his pants
Triggers for lying, cheating, not between the guys, but it's a big plot point

To be honest, if cheating in any way turns you off, this book isn't your cup of Tea. This is roughly 60ish percent of the book's time frame. I had a hard time with it, and normally, I let anything slide, but this almost made the book a three-star read for me. But if you can overlook it being the plot, the world and the characters are really great, and it's used as a learning curve for the couple, and shows relationships aren't always perfect. So I'm giving it a pass. Theo and Tobias were electric if you're wanting some good spice, and you'll need your bestie BOB! I fell in love with Nathaniel and some of the side characters, so I will be hunting through the author's backlog in the future for the cameos she mentions in the author's note. I also plan on reading all the other Foxy's Rent-A-Date books as well.

This book is part of the Foxy’s Rent-A-Date series. This series will contain a total of 23 books. Each book is written by a different and amazing author. This is my second time reading a book by Penny Fox. The first book I read was “Sweet Shots” which is part of the Behind the Lens series. This series is also another collaboration where each book is written by different but amazing authors.
OMG! This story just tugs at your heartstrings! I felt Tobias’s pain due to his past relationship. I was Tobias before realizing I needed to end that relationship just like he did. Theo is such a people pleaser that he truly doesn’t know what he wants from life. The MMs are sexy and sweet. One trying to please everyone and one trying to just live his life. The story was sweet and spicy!
Thank you, Penny Fox for such a spicy introduction to this series. If this book is any indication, I know I will love all of the books in this series! I also need to check out the rest of your books for my TBR list!

Foxy's Rent A Date Series caught my interest because I'd been reading a lot of novella's and desperately needed a story where I got to sit with the characters a bit longer. While the titular character is Tobias we actually meet the other main character, Theodore, first. Theo is terrified of the life he's allowed to form around him without exploring what he really wants. Unsure of every aspect of his life from where he lives, to his career and his orientation. One of his friends recommends Foxy's Rent A Date he meets Tobias and his world cracks open; romantic chaos ensues. If you love mildly graphic intimacy scenes and miscommunication this story is one you need to read. It is very similar to Red White and Royal Blue, one protagonist knows exactly who he is but has built high walls around himself to protect his heart. The other protagonist has no idea who he is but knows without the other main character life isn't worth living. Fun but dirty definitely worth your time. Excited to meet all of Foxy's employees.
