Under Snake Island

Rate this book
Fallen socialite Elisabeth Wingate only wanted to make up for her life’s debauchery. But making things right for a few families made things bad for everyone else. Thanks to her exploits under Bethel, the world’s spiders have disappeared and the food chain is collapsing.

Elisabeth, driven by guilt, will do anything to fix it . . .

Her quest for redemption leads her on a perilous journey across the globe, searching for a legendary monster—one whose curse comes with a side effect that may restore the food chain.

Joined by her fellow Bethel survivors, she’s led to Snake Island, infamously home to thousands of the world’s most deadly vipers. But the ancient evil that lives there is not what she expects . . .

Elisabeth survived under Bethel, but will she survive Under Snake Island?

If I go strictly by the horror aspect, I liked book one much better than book two. But maybe that’s just because we didn’t know what was going on in ‘Under Bethel’ and I was just too stupid to interpret the cover correctly. (I almost cried when I realised it was spider silk. Don’t judge me.)

Volume two took too long for me to really get going, but of course you need these sequences to tell a story. I understand all that ... but I still sighed in annoyance :‘D
Also, the theme of snakes and the storytelling just didn’t capture me - in terms of the horror factor.

However, if I focus on the overall work and the lore, volume two was AMAZING AND FANTASTIC. I loved Medusa and (insert names if you’ve read the book) and the ending was superb.

If volume three continues the way two ended, then I am thrilled and excited!

Don’t judge me.)

First off...check out that stunning cover.

I really love this series. The way Mullins blended the gods with horror elements was so enjoyable. I personally love Medusa, so this book was an easy win for me! I would love to get more books like this from Mullins.

Elizabeth, Malcolm, and Duncan are back at it. Searching for the Monster that could possibly fix the worlds food problems.  Elisabeth Wingate would do anything to lessen the guilt. But would she be willing to die to save the world?” This is an outstanding sequel to Under Bethel.  I loved how the characters were brought over from the first book and that their friendship was even stronger. I don't have a fear of snakes... but I sure don't want to go anywhere near Snake Island.
The Greek mythology aspect of the story was phenomenal. That ending was chef's kiss, sir....absolutely amazing.  I wish I could give this 10☆.

I received this novel as an ARC. Actually the first ARC I've ever attempted to join. I couldn't wait to read this because of the exceptional trip that Under Bethel, the first in this saga, took me on. I can easily say that this installment didn't disappoint, and almost surpasses the first book. Yet again Mullins takes the reader on a perilous journey with such detail that you can almost feel the snakes slithering around you. The characters you remember from Under Bethel are around again, as well as some new characters that you will either intensely care about or maybe root for the snakes to catch up to them. Mullins has an innate ability to seamlessly blend present events, historical places/events, and mythology all into an intensely captivating story that will have you by the throat from the first page. Clear your calendar, do all your chores, and settle in because once you start you won't be able to stop until you reach that last page. Oh and maybe check around the furniture and stuff first just to reassure yourself that your house isn't full of snakes!

I love any books that use Greek mythology as a basis for the story. This book was all Medusa. Wow what a character she is. She has such a beautiful description even if she is a creature of nightmares. The description of the island was so detailed that I could feel the wind blowing by the trees. I could almost smell the rot and decay of the island. Whenever the rattle sound appeared on the page, I was well aware that snakes were coming. I have a deep phobia of snakes so this book really had me deep in my head. I know this is a fiction book but the author had me anxious the entire read. Knowing the snakes were different sizes, types and all over under the island and could be controlled by Medusa brought a whole new level of terror for me. I quickly read this book as I had to know if Elizabeth was able to solve the problem she was involved in. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.

Under Snake Island by Hubert L. Mullins picks up where Under Bethel left off. The spiders are gone, the crops are failing and no one but Elisabeth and her friends knows why. Now they have to find a way to save the ecosystem and humanity by going underground again: this time Under Snake Island.

I love Medusa. Not in a “I love to hate her” kind of way, I think she is the epitome of wronged woman and I only want good things for her. So any story that features her is coming on to my radar. I love Hubert’s writing style, he deals with history and myth with tact, humour and a lot of suspense. I’ve read a few things by Mullins at this point and I have yet to be disappointed. The imagery is phenomenal, it is claustrophobic and expansive all at the same time, and Medusa…*chef’s kiss*

In the sequel to Under Bethel, we find Elisabeth facing her mortality as the world’s food chain collapses. Feeling as if she were to blame she sets off alone to follow a lead that could possibly solve the problem. That lead takes her to “snake island”. An island covered in mystery and cold blooded, legless creatures that slither their way into your nightmares. The author has retained his speciality in making your skin crawl as you look in shadows, low and high, to maintain your safety from your own imagination. Long ago creatures will grab and not let you go until the air has long been squeezed from your lungs. Or feel the liquid heat of venom run through your veins.

There was more substance to this book than the first one in the series with an interesting twist at the end. I love the Greek mythology, the setting was more interesting. My only niggle was the use of Medusa when she was supposed to have been killed by Perseus in the myth. The author could have used one of the other gorgon sisters, Euryale or Stheno, instead to keep the story a little more true to the original myth. This didn’t detract from the story though. The audiobook narration was much better than book one.

What a wonderful ride! The second book in this action packed, found family, historical horror brings back some of your favorite thrill seekers to stop another historical baddie, this time featuring sneaky snakes and more claustrophobia!
I cannot express how excited I am that Mr. Mullins decided to make this a series! His signature easy going writing style makes this book supremely easy to follow along with.
Another perfect story!

After devouring Under Bethel, I was grateful that I was able to jump right into this one.

Before reading this book, I liked snakes. I’ve even owned a few ball pythons. But after reading this book? I’m rethinking that stance. The thought of all snakes on earth being controlled by an Ancient Greek terror such as Medusa?! That’s terrifying. And throw in the way this author writes and brings his characters to life? Yeah imma pass on ever owning a snake again.

This takes place a little bit after Bethel. With the spiders gone, everything is falling apart. The world is going to die, unless something happens. Enter, Medusa. Somehow, finding her may heals things. The ending on the island, Lizzy and the "curator", and the ending, make me excited for what happens next. For if the monsters are real, what about the being who made them?

Once again Mr. Mullins has made me a captive audience to his books!!! If you like an assortment of eras then you will love this series!! It had enough Greek mythology as well as a little bit of horror thrown in to keep you captivated!!!!! I couldn’t put this book down. In three days I have read two parts of the series!!! Can’t wait to start the third book now!!!

I am loving this series so much! Claustrophobic caves, greek mythology, critters, monsters, paralyzing darkness,...it's got everything! There was a lot more buildup in this 2nd book, which I really enjoyed, but once the action starts - it doesn't let up. Hard to put down and I'm so ready to read the next one.

Very quick start but good

I thought it had a kind of ridiculous quick start but she did have some clues so I’ll forgive it. She was also very unprepared when going into the caves. After that last adventure you’d think she’d bring more than a cell phone. I was curious how she’s save the world and that seemed to work. I like how it involved a goddess and more monsters

Spiders and Snakes

I loved Under Bethel so finding out therebwas a sequel made life a fair bit better. My only regret was waiting to read it. Definitely worth the days of list sleep trying to figure out what was going to happen.

The world building in this series is incredible! Along with the mixture of mythology, horror, and fantasy is just perfect.

I’m emotionally invested in Elizabeth at this point and can only imagine what comes next for her.

Under Snake Island is a great followup to Under Bethel. It maintains the creepy atmosphere of the first story and elevates the adventure and suspense as Elisabeth tries to navigate the newest challenges without losing everything! I swear I kept seeing tails slither into the shadows out of the corner of my eyes after reading this one! Maybe even more creepy and scary than the first one! 🔥🔥🔥🐍

Under Snake Island is the second book in his Under a Shattered Olympus Saga, and it is just as fantastic as the first one! I don’t want to say too much to spoil the end of the first book, but in this one Lizzie and friends return to try to repair the damage done in Under Bethel. They head back into the caves, this time on Snake Island, and it’s just as creepy and claustrophobic as the first book. I’m sure you can imagine what they find on an island full of snakes in a novel based on Greek Mythology 😉 Highly recommend this series!

A must read for Greek Mythology Enthusiasts and an indie author to watch!
This book was SO GOOD! I Think this was even better than under Bethel! This series has me hooked
I think this author is so clever. He’s just a really great storyteller... If you’re not typically a horror reader, you’ll still LOVE this series I promise you. I’ve been wanting to read more horror and the way he adds the mythology into it just really thrills me. It’s scary, but also intellectually stimulating. The end of this one in particular was just so GOOD. The twists! Chef’s kiss I’m telling ya. The preview of the next one- I cannot WAIT for this one and if you know, you know. This is an auto read author me. Five stars! I hope someone picks this up for traditional publishing! It truly deserves it!

I love, love, love the Greek mythology in this series and Under Snake Island does not fail to deliver! This is a tale of ancient dieties threatening to destroy the world we know! Hubert Mullins has really done his research and presents old stories with a fresh lens! He truly makes us see these old myths and characters in a brand new way!
The character development is solid, although I would like to know more about Malcoln and Duncan! I felt I know people like Elizabeth , Nadia, and even Marcella and really became invested in what they were going through- couldn't help but cheer them on!
The thing I am most afraid of in the world is snakes and the many creepy creatures had me literally squirming in my seat!
So much to love about this story! It was quite reminiscent of an Indiana Jones story! Lots of breath-taking adventures!
I highly recommend this book, even if you haven't read Under Bethel!
