The evil of the world was pretty cut and dry. I did my best to do good, be good, and make a positive mark on the world. The emotions that Thatcher stirred inside me couldn’t be labeled good. Now that I knew how exciting, tempting, and addicting the darkness could be, I wasn’t sure I would have the strength to stay away.
Thatcher There wasn’t a moment in my life that I didn’t feel detached. My earliest memory is that of my mother looking at me as if I was something to fear. I’d never had a relationship with her. The ones I did have were forged from loyalty. Love was a concept that was used to explain a broad range of emotions that one felt. I had very few of those, so I didn’t require labels. When a situation presented itself that required a reaction, I thought it out—made my decision. Even if those closest to me believed my actions weren’t something I could control. I let them think it because their misconception gave me power. I was the master of my impulse.
Except once- when wide, terrified gray eyes locked on mine. She’d been in trouble, and my questionable sanity snapped. That day, I realized my twisted soul wasn’t the only thing buried deep inside me. Perhaps it was what my mother had seen in my eyes as a child that kept her from caring for me like she did my brother. The evil that seemed to dwell but not stir had been provoked. The sweet little minister’s daughter had no idea the demons she’d awaken.
Capri Just when I get a chance of a lifetime to ride for Shepherd Ranch and make a mark in the horse racing world, everything else in my life seems to take a downward spiral. I’m terrible with flirting, and I can’t seem to keep a guy interested long enough for any real relationship. I spend most nights alone, and my imagination is starting to get the best of me. I’ve almost convinced myself there is something in the shadows watching me. I shouldn’t have stopped praying. Now, my list of sins has gotten out of hand in God’s tally book. I doubted he had enough saving grace to wipe all I’d done clean.
What to Mafia Romance Revenge He's been watching her Unhinged/Man Obsessed Morally Grey Hero Will burn the world down for her
Abbi Glines is a #1 New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal bestselling author of the Rosemary Beach, Smoke, Sea Breeze, Vincent Boys, Field Party and Existence series. She never cooks unless baking during the Christmas holiday counts. She believes in ghosts and has a habit of asking people if their house is haunted before she goes in it. She drinks afternoon tea because she wants to be British but she now lives in New England and that's as close as it is going to get. When asked how many books she has written she has to stop and count on her fingers. When she’s not locked away writing, she is reading, watching Netflix and all the introverted stuff. You can connect with Abbi online in several different ways. She uses social media to procrastinate.
In typical Abbi Glines fashion, the MMC (Thatcher) is obsessed with the FMC (Capri). This means she leaves everything behind (her promising career, family, friends, and future) for someone who toys with her body and emotions, stalks her, and then sleeps with any woman around. Just like the other books, Capri walks in on Thatcher having rough sex with other women a couple of times, he flaunts his partners in front of Capri, and Capri pretends to be upset, only to get over it when he pays attention to her again. Apparently, this is supposed to make us readers swoon over such a narcissistic character. Nope.
So gross.
He gives her nothing in return for everything she gives up to be with him, and everyone is okay with this?! 5 stars, my ass. Although, I noticed most of the 5 stars are from Arcs, so....
Capri - for someone who fought so hard for her own independence from her minister dad and uptight mom, she sure gave it up so easy once she got a little male attention. Then she says how badly she wants to be the top jockey, all her training and work, just to be kept a prisoner at Thatcher's house, and he won't allow her to race anymore. She thinks keeping him calm is more important than her career that she busted her ass for? So goddamn weak.
Thatcher - the scene at the end where he slapped that woman in the face and knocked her to the ground, making her bleed? All over having an argument with his girlfriend, who was handling it already? Disgusting woman beater. Maybe he shouldn't have been screwing everything with 2 legs and flaunting it in front of Capri, and this could've been avoided. Are we supposed to feel sorry for his lack of emotion and the fact that he is unhinged? No, that doesn't make it better. There was a point where Capri even says that she wants to have kids someday, and he doesn't want kids because he would have to share her. Selfish a-hole. Who the F drugs a woman they care about and ties her up and kidnaps her, making everyone worry sick about her? As a mom in real life, this would kill me. Grown or not, this scene was disturbing.
All of the female characters in this series and any future books need an upgrade ASAP. Quit letting all the male characters walk all over the women and control them! I know it's just a book, but all of these characters are the same people on repeat with different names. We are supposed to fall in love with these abusive, manipulative, and psychotic male characters? Give your head a shake.
Ahhh this one wasn’t for me unfortunately... Which sucks as I LOVE Abbi and I must start off by saying her writing was still SUPERB and if it wasn't for her writing, I probably wouldn't have finished it.
- Dark Romance (Stalker) - Mafia subplot - Instant Love
Thatcher is the dark, moody brother of Shepherd Ranch. He is the one everyone desires to avoid then ever talk too. The small town talks about how he murdered someone & got away with it. But all Capri sees is her savior.
When Capri is hired as the new jockey at Shepherd Ranch, she is not just excited for the advancement in her career, but also the closeness it will bring to her with Thatcher. Capri grew up in a strict religious family, where she was a good girl, got good grades and stayed home most weekends. She had her best friend who was also christian, and was involved with lots of church charities. But really, Capri wanted to be independent. She wanted to find herself away from her parents and their religion. This is where she is given the opportunity to move into an affordable rental and put effort into being a jockey, while forever crushing on Thatcher. However Capri doesn't know that she has had a stalker all these years, and that stalker is her forever crush; Thatcher.
Thatcher is the play boy who does not seem to care for anyone's feelings. He says he cares for no one but Capri - But he does unfortunately make some questionable moves with her including stealing her during the night against her will and stalking her to no end. Fortunately for him - Capri seems to enjoy the stalker attention & even though Thatcher keeps doing some questionable things, she forgives him every time. But along with having Thatcher, it means she also does not have a family. With her religious family wanting nothing to do with Thatcher, Capri must choose what her future is.
2/5 stars with 3/5 steam.
I really wish I enjoyed this, however Thatcher really was a selfish character who had no redemption or character growth. Capri forgave him when he didn't even seek forgiveness - And it was painful to read. I needed more emotion, connection and for Thatcher to show some redemption qualities.
I have read the entire series since the beginning and have loved every single book and this was so disappointing. And then it just bam ended when it felt like it was just starting! I don’t even think there is going to be another one about this character! So much more could have been done with this character!
Thatcher is an unhinged psycho mafia enforcer. He falls for jockey Capri9 years ago and stalks her. Now finally they get together, however he puts her on a pedestal and won’t fck her so he is basically kissing and licking her then going to ow immediately after and having all kinds of BDSM type sex. She walks in on him twice doing the dirty. It was because he didn’t want to have rough sex with her because she was too pure and he didn’t want to Physically hurt her… dude what about the mental torment???

Book 5 in the Georgia Smoke Series and it’s Thatcher!! He was completely… all the way unhinged! I think Capri was perfect for him and he was next level obsessed with her. I can’t wait for Abbi’s next book!!
Finally we get Thatcher! I’ve been waiting for this one. It’s safe to say I like my MMC to be a little crazy when it comes to his partner and Thatcher is completely unhinged when it comes to Capri, and I’m here for it!! I can’t wait for the next one in the series.
I have really enjoyed this series and I was actually looking forward to Thatcher’s story. This book missed the mark for me. It wasn’t bad, just not what I had hoped it would be. Thankful for the opportunity to read the book early, just going to sit with it for a while before I review.
I have been waiting for Thatcher's book and wondered who would steal this dark, unhinged mafia maniac. Thatcher is the closest character to Gage if you've read Abbi's Smoke Series, but he's a little more crazy and unhinged. I knew it was going to take something or someone just as crazy to match him. I just want prepared for it to be Capri.
Tropes: - Southern Mafia Romance - Cowboy - Jocky FMC - Morally Grey - Unhinged - Stalker - Touch Her or Look at Her & Die - Bad Boy/Good Girl - Kidnapped - Virgin FMC - Grumpy/Sunshine - His Family Owns Where She Works - Billionaire - Pierced 🍆
We got a glimpse of Capri and Thatcher in Storm's book, Sizzling. Thatcher lost his cool over how Storm talked to Capri one day. Well, that wasn't even the beginning of their crazy story. This crazy man with demons inside of him became obsessed over the ministers daughter, who worked as a jocky for the Shepherd's Farm.
Thatcher is unlike any other MMC I've ever read. He is crazy obsessed with Capri. In the unhealthy way. Abbi did a fantastic job writing in his POV. He's detached and referred to often as a pyscho. In his POV, we see how he sees and feels about everything. How his POV is different than normal people's. How he thinks and reacts to things differently.
I felt so bad for Thatcher and how he must if felt as a child. Capri and I shared these same POV on little boy Thatcher. How he needed help for his feelings or lack thereof. How as a mother myself wanted to wrap him up and hug him. Tell him I loved him. But Thatcher didn't get that from his mom. His younger brother did, but the book describes his mother as seeing the demons in him early on. As a little boy, she basically left his father to deal with him and gave him no attention. I hated her.
Thatcher becomes obsessed with Capri early on. He saved her life, even if she didn't remember it. She was younger. Then, when she was older her became her stalker. He "protected" her starting at 9 years earlier than this book. He provided for her. He hired her at their family farm and made sure her job was secured. All of this she was unaware of. I use the term "protected" loosely because that's how he described what he was doing. In reality, killing our torturing people for talking to our touching her is not protecting her. It's crazy!
I do wish this would have been discussed in the book with Capri. She got very little answers out of him when she asked questions. I didn't like the ending to this book because so much was left unsaid and was up in the air. Their relationship was not in study grounds when the book ended. There needs to be more to them. I feel like Abbi should write a second book on this couple. I mean, she didn't even find out about the whole mafia thing until the last chapter.
I didn't like the spice between this couple. Abbi writes amazing spicy scenes That's one thing I really enjoy about her books. There was 1 actual doing the deed scene where she lost her cherry. It was in Thatcher's POV, and it wasn't described very well or detailed like her normal work. Plus, I wanted to see just how dark, hard, and dangerous Capri like sexual things. She got turned on by his darkness and filthy words and slapping her you know what, hard. What else would she like that Thatcher enjoyed and did to all these other women.
Thatcher’s mind worked differently, and he thought if he just ate her out all the time, she would be satisfied. He would still keep her virtue but leave them both satisfied. Yet he could still go sleep with other women all the time. More times were spent in spicy scenes with him and other women being caught by Capri than actually doing things with her. I didn't like that. But if Thatcher couldn't have her, then no one else could.
Even when he hurt Capri, he would punish himself or say things to her like she should punish him. Capri is a good girl. She liked dirty things, but still a good girl. Thatcher became off his rocker when it came to her. I just want more. Need more between these two... please Abbi 🙏
Is Thatcher actually crazy or just crazy in love? He definitely has a soft spot for Capri. He tried his best for over 9 years to keep his distance, his “demons”, away from Capri. But what he didn’t realize was Capri wanted Thatcher just as much as Thatcher wanted her. Thatcher may have had a different way of showing it. He definitely made decisions with a more sinful approach, but to him that was because he didn’t know better when it came to protecting her. In the end, it was Capri that showed Thatcher and his family just how much she understood him and accepted his “demons”. I just wish there had been more to their story. The ending felt like it was missing something.
I was also lucky to be chosen to receive an ARC for Demons. As always thank you Abbi for another wonderful book.

I've been a fan of this series and was eagerly anticipating "Demons," which focuses on Thatcher's storyline. Unfortunately, this book didn't quite hit the mark for me. While Abbi's writing remains impressive as ever, the plot didn't align with my expectations. I found it challenging to connect with Thatcher and Capri, especially since Thatcher's character seemed to lack significant growth.
I genuinely wanted to enjoy this book as much as I did the others in the series, but I felt it fell short in terms of emotional depth and connection. Thatcher's character didn't exhibit the redeeming qualities I had hoped for, which made it difficult for me to fully engage with the story. By the end, I was left feeling disappointed, wishing for a more satisfying conclusion.
Demons by Abbi Glines is an electrifying dive into the tangled web of good and evil, love and detachment, and the dark allure of forbidden emotions. This novel expertly weaves the stories of Thatcher and Capri, drawing readers into their worlds with masterful character development and a plot that refuses to let go.
Thatcher's cold detachment and calculated decisions present a chilling contrast to Capri's struggle with her faith and her desire to make a mark in the horse racing world. Their paths collide in a whirlwind of tension, passion, and the ever-looming presence of darkness.
Glines' writing captures the intensity of their inner battles and the magnetic pull between them. Thatcher's realization of the demons within him, provoked by Capri's innocence, is a powerful narrative that explores the depth of human complexity. Capri's journey, filled with self-doubt and the haunting sense of being watched, adds a layer of suspense that keeps the reader on edge.
If you're looking for a gripping read that explores the darker facets of human nature while delivering a compelling romance, "Demons" is a must-read. Glines has created a hauntingly beautiful story that stays with you long after the last page is turned.
I’m all for unhinged obsessed mmc’s, this had some things I liked. I felt like it was a quick read and I didn’t want to put it down. But most of it was in hopes it would get a little better. I enjoyed the other books in this series more, Thatcher disappointed me - I was most looking forward to him. There’s a few things he did that I believe ruined his character.
• • • • SPOILERS about 2 things I didn’t like about him that were hard to get past:
• even after the fmc and mmc hooked up he was still sleeping with other women. He only stopped because they went bare and didn’t want to risk giving her STD. Not because he didn’t want to stop sleeping with others. • he hit a woman. One of his exes was speaking badly to the fmc, so he hit the ex in the face. Nothing was physical before that, he just didn’t like what she was saying. He would have continued if fmc didn’t stop him.
I loved this book. Yes, it's part of an interconnected series but you can read this as a standalone with little spoilers of other books. Thatcher has come possessed over Capri. He is her shadow and her saver. When Capri gets her dream job as a jockey at the Shephard Ranch it has them together every day. This book was amazing I couldn't put it down. It makes what to go back to read the rest of the Georgia Smoke series.
I LOVED this series! I LOVVVVVVED thatchers book!! The only thing that would have made it better would have been if we got just a little more of their continued story! I would have loved for another book for these two. Maybe Capri finding out everything thatch has done and leaving, then having thatch try to get her back? But then would he be thatcher if he let her go in the first place? I just love his crazy and would love more of it!

Another one that felt like it ended way too early. Like it was building up to something and then abruptly ends. Not in a good way. What is in the water in Atlanta that makes these boys stalkers? It’s not hot. This is better than Storm’s book but that’s not saying much.
To say that Thatcher’s book was highly anticipated is an understatement- there was never a doubt he would be one of the most intense characters this author has written and she didn’t disappoint. What I wasn’t expecting was how deep and how long Thatcher’s feelings went. We time jumped a few times in the beginning chapters and it was intense from their first encounter.
In typical southern Mafia fashion (at least according to Abbi Glines) the definition of love is not black and white - sometimes it’s a little sprinkle of demon added in! 💕
It feels like a half written book. The book is well written, if not full of a convoluted but great for fiction relationship, but it feels like I was handed the first half or 2/3 of a book but told it was the full thing. I really enjoyed it, but the abruptness at the end and the lack of a denouement has me giving it a three. If it felt finished, it would be a five, but it almost feels like there’s a few missing sections at the end.
I would’ve given this book at least 4.5 stars, but it got 3.0. It was a slow boil, intense, steamy read that turned fiery; but it felt like the author didn’t have time to finish the book, so just ended it and left you hanging way up on a cliff without a real conclusion or the possibility of one with a sequel. She didn’t even give an epilogue. Wow…just wow. I feel robbed.
I enjoyed this book. This author has a lovely style of writing. ±±±±±±±There are spoilers in this review ±±±±±±±± The story was good, but I do have some niggles, hence the three stars. I feel the heroine was too accepting of the Heroes actions with the other women, considering his obsession with her, it did not feel right to me. The ending was a bit of a damp squib and expected more of them as a couple, how they navigated their relationship around other people/family. A rushed story, not enough substance. So, it’s worth a read but not entirely sure it was worth the money.
Little doll Damn, I was soo looking forward to Thatcher’s story, I had high hopes but was disappointed. My heart broke for him. Capri - his little doll, his saving grace, his love IDK the book just ended it was weird.
Was I ecstatic to get this ARC? Yes. Was I a little scared to dive into Thatcher? Also yes. Was it worth it? 100%
Could not put this one done- finished it in one day.
Thatcher is definitely the darkest of all Abbi’s mafia boys, we knew that as soon as we met the Georgia boys, and he definitely lives up to his reputation in Demons. The only soft spot in his life is Capri and he will not let anyone stand in the way of her safety.
The tension was palpable between these two. There were plenty of times I hated Thatcher as much as I loved him. I cannot wait for their next book to finish out their story!
A huge thank you for this ARC in exchange for my review.
Demons is the fifth book in the Georgia Smoke Series by Abbi Glines. Let it be known, Thatcher is as dark as dark can be. This man has no moral compass and he'll do anything and kill anyone that dare threatens the only person in this world he cares about. Therefore, you can expect some overly possessive vibes and sinfully delicious sexy time scenes! I'm telling you, Thatcher makes Storm look like a saint, and that's saying something!
Capri lived her life toeing the line of morality. Having grown up with a preacher as a father, and a controlling mother definitely had her wanting to see a world that was hidden to her. Now, Capri is a grown woman with dreams of being the best Jockey in the racing industry. And those dreams have just escalated by being signed to one of the best horse racing families in the business, the Shepherds. But what comes along with those dreams, is a nightmare disguised in a sinfully delicious but deadly looking man. Her mother would faint if she knew who her daughter was lusting after. But you know what they say, the heart wants what the heart wants. Even if that want is dark, dangerous, and will kill anyone who brings her harm.
Thatcher has lived his life holding his demons back. But now that the woman who makes his heart tick is closer than she's ever been before, Thatcher is about to step into the fight of his life. His inner demons are ready to fight, anyone who dares wipe the smile and the joy from his little doll's face. And if she should try to run, he'll enlist his demons to hunt her down.
My Thoughts:
Abbi Glines brought the intensity up a notch with Thatcher and Capri's story. Let it be a warning, if you like your romances clean and wholesome, this is not the book for you. But, if you like your romantic tales a bit on the darker side with strong erotic vibes and danger lurking around every page turn then buckle up. You're about to jump on the ride of your life! OHHH! I loved this one so much.
Let's start with Thatcher. Going into this novel, I wasn't sure if I was going to like Thatcher's portion of this story. When I say this man is DARK, I mean it wholeheartedly. With the level of dark vibes that he showed in the previous four books of this series, I was scared there would be some detailed trauma depicting why he is the way he is. But nope, Thatcher was born without a conscience or a moral code. Not a traumatic moment detailed, thank god! Crisis was averted!! One thing I loved about Thatcher was witnessing him slowly develop a conscience when it concerned Capri. This man is a womanizer, he uses women to scratch an itch and then he's done with them. No cuddling or snuggling included in this transaction, but when it came to Capri, things were different. And I loved seeing this gentler side that was so unlike him to have. It was great seeing him start to grow and develop his emotions.
And then we have Capri. Capri is the sunshine to Thatcher's stormy skies. In this novel, I felt the flawless balancing act that her character brought to this story. I do have to say, I loved how the more she got to know Thatcher, the more her timidness wore away. I loved the backbone she developed in the second half of this novel! She's the light to his dark, and I can't say enough how much I love novels that capture this light/dark trope effortlessly!
And now the reasoning behind why I dropped a ½ star off my rating. It all stems from a moment in time that was brought up a couple of times and never talked about again. Aside from the town being scared of Thatcher due to a murder-esque situation. If you've read this novel and know what I'm talking about, I wanted more from this moment in the present tense. I wanted the realization that Thatcher was the man who saved her. I think this detailed moment would have made their connection stronger, but it seemed like that topic was dropped off the face of the earth, or rather this novel.
Overall, I loved Demons by Abbi Glines. I think this may actually be my favorite book from the Georgia Smoke Series! Everything from the danger to the few swoony scenes was a love for me. I just needed a bit more from that one moment to lift this novel up to a five star rating. If you decide to jump into this novel, I hope you love it as much as I did!!
My fucked-up, twisted soul was hers. Demons and all.
Rating this book physically hurts because I absolutely love both Abbi and both her Smoke and Georgia. Smoke series. Thatcher was one of my most anticipated characters because I became obsessed with him as a secondary character. He was like Gage from Straight Fire on crack. And considering Gage was a phycho on a good day, that's saying something. But what can I say? I like my fictional men walking red flags with a splash of crazy.
So when I tell you I was seriously anticipating this book, it's an understatement. I was damn near feral for it. But where I loved the first 35% of it, Thatcher's unhinged behavior suddenly took a turn for me. Now before I go there, keep in mind that I am a reader that loves unhinged anti heroes, manwhores and alphaholes. And Thatcher was all of those things and more. But there is one scene in particular where it just managed to kill any positive feelings I had towards the man. I can handle in books, provided that it's done well. And I don't even know if I would call it that because Thatcher and Capri aren't really together at the time. But man, the way that it all unraveled just left such a sour taste in my mouth that I simply couldn't see past it.
In addition to that, the characters also felt felt and very two dimensional. I wanted to understand Thatcher beyond his unhinged behavior, but it's like his unhinged ways was his entire personality. I felt like his character could have been so fascinating if he had just a touch more development to him. But even then I could have dealt with it. Where the book ultimately lost me was with Capri. Now look, I've read this series and the Smoke series so I can confirm that most of the FMCs are similar in a way that they easily succumb to their man, and I'm ok with that. But for some reason Capri just felt like too much of a pushover. She lets Thatcher get away with so much and gives in so quick to forgive him where I wanted the man to grovel or work for it, that it also just fell flat for me.
I wanted to love this book so much. I have loved the series and I love Abbi's brand of uber alphas. But sadly, this book just didn't deliver for me. I'm bummed but you can't love them all. I'm still a huge fan of the series and greatly recommend. I also will definitely read the next installment. But don't let my review deter you because it just may be a hit for you. Give it a shot and see what you think.
Find me on: ["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

3.5⭐️ rounded to 4⭐️ on Goodreads and retail websites. Demons is the next addition to the Southern Mafia series by Abbi Glines. This book is about Thatcher’s obsession with Capri, a preacher’s daughter who works as a jockey. Thatcher had always felt detached and emotionless until he saw someone trying to hurt Capri. After that experience, he kept tabs on her, compelled to make sure she was safe and happy, and feeling more grounded in her presence. His actions on her behalf included removing any threat to her or anyone who dated her and leaving gifts of her favorite cookies. This continued for nine years until he arranged for her to ride one the Southern Mafia’s racehorses. Now he was seeing her at the stables where interaction was needed, and she was also aware of him. He always meant to watch her from the sidelines, but Capri had other ideas. The question was whether Capri could handle Thatcher’s version of love. Having now read several of the books in this series, I have seen a pattern of obsessive/stalker romances in this series that is really interesting. I suspect that men who were raised within a family that expected violence when needed might experience a psychological break from what we consider normal, healthy relationships. When one’s own life is not safe, the need to keep someone he loved safe could be a strong compulsion. It is important to note, while it can be hot to read about an anti-hero with a strong obsession for a woman, that I would never endorse this type of relationship in real life. I loved the way Capri accepted Thatcher, despite his differences, and that she was able to see him when everyone around him, even his own family did not. She took almost everything in stride, and even when she struggled, her concerns focused primarily on the consequences for Thatcher. Thatcher was definitely an interesting character. His thought processes seemed completely logical to him, despite being foreign to almost everyone else. I enjoyed seeing inside his mind and getting a look at his inner demons. The way this couple fits together definitely stresses the theme that there is someone out there for everyone. The way this bookI did enjoy this dark, spicy, contemporary mafia romance with stalker, obsessive, touch her and die vibes. I would recommend this book for readers who enjoy similar books with morally grey anti-heroes.
