Aurora and Garrett share a history that stretches back to childhood. Their connection is rooted in the friendship of their mothers. Aurora, was sweet, slightly tomboyish girl, has transformed into a breathtaking beauty. With golden hair that dances like sunlight, eyes that shimmer like sapphires, curves that could stop traffic, and legs that seem to go on for days, she commands attention wherever she goes.
Garrett has harbored a crush on Aurora since they were kids, though he might not have vocalized it back then. To him, she was the one, even in the innocence of childhood. It might sound crazy to fall head over heels in love at such a young age, but Garrett was that exception and only for Aurora.
Their story takes a turn when they end up expecting and married while still practically kids themselves. However, life throws them a curveball, a tragedy that shatters their world just when things seemed to be good. The weight of the tragedy clings to Aurora's heart, an enduring ache that time has failed to erase. It nearly tore Garrett apart, compelling him to walk away from the only girl he loved. Fast-forward five years, and he returns, fueled by a hunger that never truly subsided.
But can their love withstand the mess life has thrown their way? Can they overcome the heartbreak and rediscover their connection? That's the question. Can a second chances at love be enough to beat the odds?
Hey everyone, I'm LS Phoenix, and I live in a small town in New England. I’ve been with my high school sweetheart since I was 16, we married in our mid 20’s and had 3 amazing children who are now the best well rounded adults I know. They keep me on my toes and bring endless joy to my life. I’m not sure where I would be without any of them in my life. Now, here's how I ended up in the world of writing. I’m an avid reader myself and one day as I was reading a book I thought, hmm, I can do this. I used to write when I was in school and I always loved it. I’m a very creative person, sometimes too creative. Is that a thing? Anyway, an idea pops into my head, and it gets stuck and won't go away until I write it all down. then it just spiraled from there and I kept writing. So yeah, I dove headfirst into a sea of words and emotions, all because my brain just wouldn't let it go, and I’m completely okay with that! I love writing! I'm all about soaking in the beauty of the world and finding inspiration around me. Each character I create, every twist I write, is a reflection of the journey we call life. So I hope you’ll join me on this ride. I can't wait to share my stories and characters with you.
Although these main characters have been through a lot, I found I didn’t feel a connection towards them. My felt bad for them, but that was about the extent to it. I also feel like it needed another round or two of editing.
3.5 ⭐ 2 🌶️ Tropes: Second Chance, It’s always been you, trauma/healing, protective MMC, soulmates
Aurora (Rory) and Garrett who had been together since high school eventually separate in the aftermath of a devastating loss. But 5 years later their paths cross again when Garrett returns to town to help his parents sell their house. Their love for each other hasn’t changed, but danger is lurking and their reunion is impeded by Rory’s uncertainty that they can be a couple again.
I had a really hard time getting into this story, and I think it was mainly because of the writing style. I think the story line was really interesting, although the dangerous situation that they face needed more set up/substance, but the execution was lacking. The writing was overly descriptive in some parts, not descriptive enough in others, and weirdly straightforward/direct. The author was using lots of adjectives to guide the reader into what they should be experiencing, where I prefer more of an internal monologue so I can come up with my own impressions.
I think this is more of a me thing than the author. Fans of this author will definitely enjoy the book.
✨ Trigger warnings below, but might be a spoiler ✨
This book deals with some heavy topics such as child death, attempted suicide, stalking and being in the hospital after a serious car accident.
Wow. My heart is being held together with scotch tape right now. Firstly your immediately gutted in the the PROLOG, then your heart held just to have it pounding out of your chest the next, then your given a roll of tape and told it's okay to smile at the end. Wow just wow. It was a fast read and I think their could have been alot of fluff filler that would have been even more impactful, but even as is this book was amazing.
Splintered Hearts by LS Phoenix LS Phoenix is the new-to-me author of Splintered Hearts. This book captured my attention instantly and brought tears to my eyes while reading just the prologue. That alone tethered me to this book.
Aurora (Rory) and Garrett are characters that I wanted to champion. They are friends-to-lovers-to-tragic events happen-to-is there a possibility of a second chance. A gamut of emotions flows thru this story.
Through their mother’s friendship, Rory and Garrett are destined to become friends as well. The summer before the beginning of their senior year in high school they officially become girlfriend and boyfriend. During the first month of school Rory begins to feel sick and she takes a pregnancy test only to confirm what she already knows…she’s pregnant. Garrett is there with her and tells her “We’ll figure this out. You and me, okay?” When they speak to their parents, Garrett confesses his love for her and tells them that if Rory will have him that he wants to get married. He accepts and wants the responsibility of caring for a wife and child. So it happens and their new life begins only to be turned upside down by a tragedy 2 years later. Reeling in her grief, Rory can’t move forward in life. As much as she loves Garrett, she continues to shut him out. He feels that weight and 2 years later leaves their marriage for his own well-being. They are still very much in love but sometimes outside forces worm their way in and aren’t easily overcome.
Garrett returns back to town 5 years later to help his mother sell her home. When Rory and Garrett inevitably run into one another, the embers between them that never extinguished slowly begin to reignite. A brand new chapter in their lives begins to unfold along with new possibilities.
The main characters are relatable, the secondary characters Sutton and Easton are endearing and the storyline is very moving.
This book broke my heart at first, and then it slowly healed it piece by piece.
Rory and Garret were each other first and only love. They had love, a family and all they could ask for. Then tragedy happened and we saw them fall appart. Rory couldn't get past her grief and depression and pushed him away. We could feel everything Rory was feeling through all the words the author gives us. She was in a bad place and could not believe he was better with her. They ended and several years passed, but even appart they loved one another. One day, he comes back to his home town and finds her again. All the feelings were alive as before, so slowly he started getting closer to her once again. But things weren't easy. Even if lighter there would always be grief. Could they mend what was broken? Or would all the bad feelings resurface and keep them away again? It was heartwarming seeing all the love they had for each other and how, mainly him, wanted to take care of her in all the ways possible. As they start to reunite some danger happens and what then? Will they be ok?
I really enjoyed both main characters but the side ones played also a huge part in making me love this book. I can't wait for Sutton's turn!
The beginning is one huge roller coaster and my heart broke, instantly. From that moment, I wanted nothing but happiness for Rory. She deserved it. I fell in love with her character and what she went through in this book and I applaud her for how brave she was through every single thing that transpired. Her love for Garrett was so pure, she sometimes believed she didn’t deserve it but she absolutely did.
The way Garrett treats Rory makes my heart melt. He is an absolute gentleman and such a good man. His feelings never changed even after 5 years.
The ending made my heart so full, I was so happy. This book is a definite read, you need this book trust me!!
ARC review——This book was a nice short and cute read. The story line was sweet. It had its moments of devastation and it was hard to read some of them but hanging in there was worth it. Some of it moved a bit fast for me and she could have drug it out but overall not bad. The biggest thing that got me and prevented this from being a 5 star was the author sometimes seemed to forget what she wrote or didn’t care? Garrett called “Jackson” after a significant event and then it was “Easton” that was referenced in the follow up. The ending referenced a “nap”….then mentioned sunset so I inferred bedtime…..then mentioned a “nap” again. Maybe a language barrier in the writing?
• friends to lovers • 2nd chance • small town • traumatic event in beginning & towards the end • HEA
This was a good start to a new series! I usually don't venture from my dark romance reads, but when it comes to books from LS Phoenix, I'll be 1st in line. She always has a mixture or darkness in with the sunshine.
Im never disappointed!! From The heart breaking beginning, the moment they meet eyes thru a bonfire, the truth from the past coming to the surface, then the HEA they both deserve, everything can together beautifully!! And I can't wait to read Suttons story and hope for her Happy ending!
I read this book in one day!! If that doesn’t tell you what my thoughts of it are, I’m not sure what will. This is one of the few second chance romance tropes that I can absolutely get behind. Typically they’re very cliche and unbelievable, but splintered hearts captured me from the beginning! The characters were both mature adults, no treating each other wrong etc. This book also has a twist that makes it different than a typical romance. I absolutely loved both of the main characters as well as their family and friends. This story was such a short quick read, but still had a complete plot. Overall, great book!! Will definitely read more of her work.
I really enjoy reading novels by LS Phoenix, they're realistic and have characters that you can relate to. Splintered Hearts is no exception, though this one pulls on the heart strings straight away. There are trigger warnings listed for this novel before you start, so I advise read them first. I really enjoyed reading about Garret and Aurora their struggles and how they overcome it all. The characters in this book are created so realistically along with the events as a a reader you can't help but form a kind of bond with them. The storyline was hard hitting but like all LS Phoenix books you get a satisfying ending.
This is a short and beautiful book that is about second chances and grief/trauma.
In such a short book, I am surprised how beautifully everything was handled and dealt with. Friends-to-lovers and high school sweethearts who during their young marriage, go through a traumatic event and grief swallows them whole and to heal they put some space between them and 5 years later, they meet again and the love between them has still not changed, and they have bravely been through alot. Towards the end, in the third act, there is another traumatic event again, but this book guarantees an HEA.
The love between Aurora and Garrett is one that spans through heartache, pain, strength and healing. From young love to devastation, isolation to acceptance and finally lust to love this book covers all of the emotions in such a beautiful manner.
I really enjoyed this book as it was so relatable and emotionally gripping. I felt like I was living their story and couldn't put it down. I read this in less than 24 hours!
Aurora and Garrett's story shows that true love can conquer all and you have to do hard things to get to the best part. Pick this book up!
What an adorable Second Chance Romance story. I loved reading and watching Garrett and Aurura overcome their grief and find each other again in the ending. Kind of an emotional read with the talk of Child loss and Divorce, so check your trigger warnings before diving in, but it is a really great story
Heartbreaking story that had tears flowing the first chapter! All the feels. Small town romance between 2 soul mates and the loss of their child. Has grammar errors and certain parts felt very rushed. It could have used more intensity and mystery leading up to the "bad guy" plot twist. It didn't really fit into this story. It was a beautiful story, and I wanted it to last.
If you're looking for a spicy cowboy romance, childhood friends to lovers, heart break, second chances and a strong FMC then you'll probably enjoy this book.... I know I did!!
this book dealt with some very serious topics but i don't think it was done justice or done well at all. i also hated the mmc and i didn't care for him.
