Returning home after three years in recovery, Sloane Andrews struggles to make a fresh start. She desperately wants to cling to hope but is reminded of the loss of her brother. And there, waiting for her, is the one person she blames for it Cole Delgado.

Sloane wants nothing more than to guard herself from Cole. But fate has other plans. His presence slowly unravels her defenses, and she finds herself thinking about him more.

Cole spent three years writing letters he never sent to Sloane. He, too, carries scars from their shared past and wants to hold onto someone who understands exactly what it means to feel everything and nothing at all. Struggling with his mental health, he’s still determined to see her thrive again and yearns to rekindle the friendship and love they once had.

As they navigate life through sober eyes, they may just discover that love and hope can mend even the deepest wounds, and together, they may find a future with meaning.

Jessica enjoys dancing around her house to songs you wouldn’t think one could dance to, strumming her ukelele and writing bad poetry. She loves drinking an ungodly amount of coffee and watching the birds in the sky. Introverted, and quiet but when she talks, she doesn’t stop. You can always find her behind a book reading, or her laptop writing. “The Kind of Love” is her debut novel.

First off, I’d like to say you may need to have the tissues ready! Jessica does an amazing job of unraveling the characters Sloane and Cole and finding a way to make it feel like you’re inside of their lives. With writing that mixes poetic descriptions while also feeling like you’re listening to the thoughts of a close friend, this book sucked me in and I sat and read it entirely within two days. It unlocked so many emotions for me and while not struggling personally with any addictions, I was still able to relate to all the feelings they were going through and I loved the way their stories intertwined and came together. I couldn’t recommend this more!

I would like to second the review from
Sarah that mentioned the grabbing of tissues. You will need them at certain points in the book. Jessica really knows how to grab you and pull you into her books from not only the story itself but how she describes it all. I felt like I was there with them throughout the book watching them and listening to them as they told me their stories. From the get go I was transported into Sloane and Cole’s stories clearly visualizing every bit of it as I read. My heart both broke for them but also felt joy for them. I hated to put this book down and wanted to read it in its entirety the first day. I highly recommend this book!

I absolutely loved this book! Jessica does an amazing job at making you love her characters whilst still giving them character flaws but making you love them even more for it! This story is gripping and keeps you interested the whole way through just dying to see how it ends! It's got all the themes you love in a book.. love, grief, sadness, hope and so much more! Jessica has an amazing way of making you feel like no matter what has happened you can always change it around!

A Heart Full of Blues is an excellent read. Jessica has a great way with words that draws you in from beginning to end. The book is about a young lady named Sloane and her life after returning home from rehab. She has to figure her future out while still being somewhat haunted by her past. Jessica does a great job of keeping us in the present but also giving us glimpses into the past at the perfect times to help us understand Sloane better. The characters in the story are very well developed. As you read, you really gain a good understanding of them. I also like that reading this book gives you perspective from someone in recovery. This story touches on some serious subject matters in such a beautiful way. I’d love to say more but I also don’t like to give reviews with spoilers. Please give this book a read! You won’t regret it! I highly recommend it!!

I can't get past the pity party she has about being an addict. I have no sympathy for that attitude.
With that being said, the author writes the character perfectly. That's exactly how it feels to know a drug addict.

It's a good story if you can look past the "addict's attitude".

And a beautiful cover.

This is a beautiful and sad story of Sloane, a recovering addict, who returns home after spending time in rehab and a halfway house. After her return, she must learn to navigate her new life and rebuild relationships with those she hurt with her addiction..and those who hurt her.

A Heart Full of Blues gives the reader a glimpse into the impact her addiction had on her and those around her. Sloane is stubborn, loving and a bit of a free spirit. She is very self aware and knows her faults, but has trouble seeing her value.

We also get to see the story through the eyes of Cole who experienced a second loss when Sloane went to rehab ignoring his calls for the last four years. Cole faces his own struggles along with his recovery.

A Heart Full of Blues is an inspiring story about love, loss and the ability to find joy even during the darkest moments. To keep persevering regardless of what life throws at you.
