Scarlet wakes imprisoned by Kyson who claims she’s his mate. She doesn’t know what he’s talking about but he isn’t letting her go until she accepts her new life and place by his side.
This was short, quick and steamy. Liked it alright but I wish there had been more build up, tension and character development. Alas, this novella just didn’t have the time.

Kyson kinda sweet, impulsive at the beggining, reminds me a bit of Cassian but with an Emmett vibe from Twilight. he is 32, but he is 32 a long time now. (Familiar?)
It is really a short story, there is a missing out feeling inside me as I could read a bit more of the Coven. So, send me Thanatos Coven Book 2 please.

Captive Consort is the first book in the Thanatos Coven series. The story has an easy flow and entertaining characters that make you keep turning the pages. Captive Consort is an easy reading page-turner with drama, steamy romance, a great cast of engaging characters, and some paranormal action.

This book isn't very long but it definitely pulls you in right away. Kyson is the possessive, hot over protective vampire of most women's dreams. Scarlet is no shrinking violet. That woman has some strengths that I admire. And when she finds your chosen family she fights to keep them safe. I can't wait for the next book

I do feel like the book and story was a little rushed.
even though it could have been longer, better developed and had more background info on the FMC, and more spice this could develop into a more complex and deep story.

I wanted to love this book. I think the idea of the book is very achievable. However, the planning was not thoroughly set up.
The story starts fast and ends fast. I love a quick read. However, I feel this was very rushed and very similar to popular works.
There are bits and pieces that personally were very similar to twilight, true blood, and vampire diaries. I wanted more authenticity. I wanted a climb, a plateau, and a dive. I wanted the gritty details, and emotion to push through the pages. I feel that this book can have a lot of potential. There was not a ton of detail in regards to the storyline. A lot was missing that I feel could have been vital to the build-up of not only characters but the plot as well.
It's just not there yet :(
I was kindof disappointed overall in my hopes before I got the ARC. Things I would like to see in the next book/rewrite of the current work:
-more detail. I do not want to be confused halfway through a book due to sudden info drops that were not explained at all previously. Where did the guns come from? There was nothing to lead up to her being a great shooter.
-better world/character building. This book from start to finish seems very rushed and incomplete. There was a lot of scenes that felt incomplete and needed to be better planned. Almost as if the author(s) just wanted to get the scene out of the way and onto the next. Same with the character(s). These are 100+ year old vampires with the emotional capacity of teenages? This did not sit right with me at all while trying to read I a mindset of an ancient being. It was very hard to try and associate the age given with the actions/emotions they were portraying.
- Better planning/visions/hope for a series. I can tell the author(s) want more for this book. It's meant to be a series, and i sincerely hope this takes off. I truly want a better vision for the series as a whole. Planned out, attention to detail, written to its full capacity. However, that does take a lot of planning and forecasting before the pen hits the page (or fingers to the keys?). As it's currently written, I do not have a lot of hope for this to continue as a series. There is not enough detail to fill the pages as it stands, and I don't believe I could hold myself to finished an entire series written the same way. I want more for this book, and I hope we get more in coming works from this author.
*However, if this gets re-written, I would love to give it a 2nd change / reread it to its full potential. I appreciate the chance to read this ARC, and I love that I was able to read before it was released. This review will be on goodreads, but not amazon (until likely 30 - 90 days after release) due to my stars rating. I want to sit at a solid 2-2.5 but also want to give it a chance.

"Captive Consort" really does lay a good foundation for an engrossing read through and through. This is actually a really unique concept: the forced marriage between a powerful sorcerer and a fiery lady who possesses immense potential. Ending leaves the reader wanting more—to know how Scarlet and Thanatos will develop and what perils Scarlet is going to go through within the Thanatos Coven. A good read for dark fantasy lovers who indulge in a healthy dose of romance and mystery.
Final Thoughts:

September 21, 2024Honestly it was an interesting story with enough intrigue to keep things interesting. I do feel like the book and story was a little rushed. One minute the FMC hates that she has been taken against her will, and swears up and down that she feels one way. Then the next minute her mind is completely changed out of nowhere, with no real reason to justify as to why she had a change of heart. I liked that the FMC was feisty and held her own. We always love a strong FMC. I liked having a dual POV, I always enjoy reading things from the MMC side of things. Especially when he is pining and desperately in love, that is the best to read about, when a strong man is completely stripped down because he fell in love. I do feel that the story was underdeveloped and could have used more explanations, especially when it came to the FMC background and family situation. I thought the author could have expanded more on such topics that are sensitive and some people may be able to relate to, but to me it felt like these things were skipped over quickly. I also wish that we could have had more of a front row seat to some of the spicy dreams. I felt that the book talked about spice but never actually wrote out the scenes themselves for us to enjoy. It was a fun quick read that kept me in suspense trying to figure things out, and of course there was some romance which I love. Overall it was a nice read and hopefully people will enjoy it, even though it could have been longer and better developed into a more complex and deep story.

Captive Consort is a great start to a new series by Marshall and Wulf. They help you out right away with a glossary of terms and concepts for their vampire/vampire hunter world. This is a fated-mates romance, as the vampires dream of their consorts for decades. With the help of their Oracle, know when to bring them to their coven. And that’s exactly what happens to Scarlet, who awakens to find herself in Kyros’ coven as he works to convince her to become his mate.
I liked the way Scarlet was able to take charge of her life despite being bought by a vampire, and how she too had dreamed of Kyros. Scarlet had an ability to adapt that was admirable. I also loved how completely devoted to her Kyros was. In this world, vampires are willing to do anything to keep their mates content—it’s a bit of a compromise for having to give up being in the daylight world and more.
The antagonists were interesting in Captive Consort, with hints of deeper levels and animosities among them. I would have liked more time spent on how these hunters were able to compromise coven security relatively easily, and more about what happened with the other coven that didn’t make it.
Captive Consort is a fun and easy read and an engrossing start to this series.

Kyson & Scarlett: Short, Sweet, and Spicy! I Loved it! 5 Stars!
This is my first time reading a Jade Marshall Book and I can see myself reading plenty more of them in the future!
Scarlett wakes up in a mysterious house and is greeted by an attractive man named Kyson, who tells her that she is his consort (mate). This is the same man who has haunted her dreams for most of her life, awakening feelings of desire she thought only existed in her dreams. Should Scarlett accept her role and destiny as his consort, her will be drastically changed. But will her newfound connection to Kyson unlock a new threat to her safety and jeopardize her future with Kyson?
The action and attraction between Kyson and Scarlett happen right away so, you don't have to wait long for the feelings to develop between them. I loved Scarlett's fire and thought her to be a perfect match for Kyson. They were perfect together. Add in a stunning cast of side characters and you have one phenomenal novella.
I look forward to reading more stories from Jade Marshall. This one is definitely worth a read if you like vampires, instalove, and the fated mates trope.

This was a quick and enjoyable read! Definitely for fans of vampire romance with spice. After I finished it I was sad that the next book isn't out yet (or I just couldn't find it). I definitely want to read more in this series and more by these 2 authors!
Scarlet is a very sassy young woman who was plucked from her life against her will by the vampire Kyson. She is locked away and confused and wanting answers. Little did she know she would find love and a whole new family. My favorite thing was her feisty nature and she was basically fearless in the face of several vampires.
Kyson is a vampire that has waited a very long time for his mate, or consort as it is defined as in the book. At first Scarlet's sassy nature frustrates him but he ends up loving it and finds it amusing. I love a man who is on the possessive and protective side and that is Kyson to a T.
If you want a quick spicy paranormal romance this is definitely for you! Bravo to the authors Jade Marshall & Rose Wulf and I hope you keep on collaborating!

Little did she know she would find love and a whole new family. My favorite thing was her feisty nature and she was basically fearless in the face of several vampires.
Kyson is a vampire that has waited a very long time for his mate, or consort as it is defined as in the book. At first Scarlet's sassy nature frustrates him but he ends up loving it and finds it amusing. I love a man who is on the possessive and protective side and that is Kyson to a T.
If you want a quick spicy paranormal romance this is definitely for you! Bravo to the authors Jade Marshall & Rose Wulf and I hope you keep on collaborating!

I found it to be a gripping paranormal romance that kept me hooked from start to finish. The story revolves around Scarlet, who finds herself trapped and furious, locked in a cage by Kyson, a man she has dreamed of all her life. The tension between them is palpable, and the chemistry is undeniable.
Scarlet’s journey from anger and confusion to understanding and acceptance is well-crafted. Her fiery spirit and Kyson’s determination to win her over create a dynamic and engaging narrative. The authors do a fantastic job of building the world of the Thanatos Coven, making it both intriguing and immersive.
Kyson’s character is equally compelling. His need to consume and be consumed by Scarlet adds a layer of intensity to the story that keeps you turning the pages.
While the story felt a little rushed at times, it was still a lovely and engaging read.

What a lovely read. Not too long and yet still enough to enjoy the story, the characters, some humour, banter and learn a little of the world it is set in and background to create an interest to discover more of what this series can reveal.
I do enjoy books that give dual storytelling from the two main characters and there is a few background characters that will be interesting to get to know a little more of their stories.
I just finished a series of fantasy that were intense, detailed and long and although I loved them it is nice to still be able to enjoy my favourite genre of fantasy and supernatural in more compact size books that still give you a nice mix and taster to enjoy just as much, especially with strong feisty females a great bonus.

I did struggle at the start of this book, I love vampire books so was a bit taken aback that I wasn’t hooked from the start. But I persevered and I did like this book.
When Kyson locked up scarlet and wasn’t very open about everything just angry I got angry too and wanted her to escape. But once he realised he wasn’t going to get where he needs to be by keeping her locked up progress was made and she started to warm up to him as did I.
I realised he only had eyes for her and would protect her at all costs.
There was some funny parts in which made me laugh. I absolutely loved the idea that they can both feel each other emotions.
Tough times come along and Kyson realises Scarlet isn’t as fragile as he was lead to believe.
I love a good happy ending.

“Captive Consort” is the first in the 'Thanatos Coven' series.
A vampire, Kyson, has waited over 100 years to find his one true mate.
Aha, there she is - time for a good old-fashioned kidnap.
He insists Scarlett is not a prisoner - she points out that she is locked in a single room.
It's only a matter of time before she comes to realise that he is her dream man (for that is the way these books work).
Of course there will be obstacles - in this case superhuman Jagters who exist to kill vampires (and they are in the vicinity).
It didn't make much of an impression on me - it is too short to have much depth - though the battle at the end was well done.
I'll have forgotten it tomorrow.

The way that Scarlet was acquired is very sad, but once she realizes the opportunity in front of her and the possibility for happiness if she accepts Kyson she doesn’t hold back. The way that Kyson speaks to Scarlett, and the fact that he doesn’t give up shows Scarlett his inner strength. Once they come together, they both have something to fight for and prove to be a ruthless pair that love each other.

Quick read, light plot. I just felt that I needed more backstory on Scarlett. The way she tasted was too unrealistic. Even having the background she has in a certain task, it's not enough to explain her lack of fear and her confidence. She had no idea vampires existed so how is she so calm during an attack? Story has potential to be great.

This is a short but romantic vampire/human fated mates book. I really liked the fated mates part of the story. The part I didn't really enjoy was the fighting, but I do understand that it is part of the genre.
This book does start out with a kidnapping and there is some mentions of family negligence. If you are sensitive to these things, please be advised.
If you are a fan of vampire/human fated mates, you will enjoy this book.

This is a very quick read. There isn’t much character build up but if you are looking for something quick that involves a little sex, then it’s perfect for you. The relationship between characters was a little off putting. One minute she hates him and doesn’t understand the situation, the next shes all over him and can’t get enough. That said, it was not a bad read. I read it in one sitting and would recommend if you are looking for a quick vampire read.

This book was such a fun ride! I really liked how the world was set up and used mates in a different setup. I can’t believe how quickly I fell in love with Kyson and Scarlet, they just kind of become easy to love characters very quickly. My honest complaint in this book is it needs to be longer. I think there was too much to unpack in a novella and I would’ve been here for the stretched out storyline. Have definitely fallen in love with the world and can’t wait to see what’s next!

This is NOVELLA! I am happy and sad it is this format. It seems that the intro to the read with the definitions was longer than the book. This entrance was unexpected. but glad it explained the way of the vampire world through their eyes. Steam is good. Hoping to see these two characters in cameos through the series. Would like to see them evolve cause couldn't tell if the story was just about them or different members of they would encounter.
