Honestly this book was super surprising I’m not sure if I should’ve rated it 3stars or 5. I went in expecting a lot of pirates and gods/goddesses and mystical creatures. While they all play a key role of influence I wouldn’t say they were exactly a prominent role. It was much more of a psychological thriller and roller coaster. Which I really enjoyed and therefore was not super upset about having felt duped by the synopsis of the book. It did take a bit to really get pulled into the book but once it did I found myself frequently replaying different parts in my head. Would definitely recommend it as a great read.
I listened to the audio book which I felt was fairly well done. I almost always have issues with narrators butchering the voices of opposite gender characters. This one wasn’t that bad though and there are a lot of characters that they tried to give differentiated voices. I would also recommend the audio version.

Fantastic book.
This is a difficult book to summarize because there are so many characters, and each character is not only fully rounded but a part of a world of pirates, depravity, poverty, and human survival.
There's incredible world-building, with an uncaring goddess, sea monsters, pirates, and mythology. There's revenge (as well as the goal for it), formed families, cruelty, moments of kindness, love, and hatred.
This book is long, but you're so lost in it that it doesn't really matter. However, there are lots of sad moments. You should know that going in.
Drowned Sea is for anyone who wants to read a good pirate novel. It's also a good book for someone who's looking for a rich novel that never stops building a world where only the most cutthroat can survive. That is unless they have someone on their side.

Overall the story was good. It did take a while to get into the story taking a couple of chapters to really get drawn in. I listened to the audiobook and the voice acting was great. I love the fact that this book was made by a father and son along with being voiced by them on audio too!

This was a really good read. Lots of twists and turns. Very interesting characters.Strong story, really hope they continue the series. If you’re into dark fantasy, this is for you! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

May 30, 2024I really tried, but the book didn't draw me in. I read the first 5 or 6 chapters and the story was too slow for me.
