When the bony orbs fall from the sky like hail in a winter storm onto the tilled ground of his cursed south field, Carl Cressel has no idea what they are, or what to do with them.
When the farmer acts upon his compulsion to bury them like spectral seeds in that malignant dirt, an unholy crop of cartilage creatures soon sprouts, and a deadly harvest awaits the midnight hour.
SKULLS is an all new tale of terror from J.D. Allen, author of THEY'RE COMING TO GET YOU, BARBARA!
During the winter of 1992, a freak storm hit the Cressel farm. In the aftermath, owners Carl and Alice discover something unusual amongst their sixty-six acres of crops. Not the tennis ball sized hail as was thought, but tiny skulls were found everywhere. With careful consideration, Carl decides to plant the skulls in the ground as if they were seeds, to see what grows…
Author J.D. Allen is one of the most inventive and creative writers I have had the pleasure of reading. His latest, Skulls, takes place within a bizarre cursed farm land, in which the reader reaps the horrors of a slant eyed, needle-toothed, misshapen creature. Allen wraps his devilish tale of terror around things that are not of this earth. Rich with sci-fi intrusive horror, Skulls explores an otherworldly metamorphosis of the subterranean kind.
Shock. Disbelief. Terror. These unearthly elements of science-fiction and horrifying creatures are a successful blend of two genres that disturb, frighten and scare. Buried within J.D. Allen’s mysterious soil are the contents of strange nightmares. His books are like stamps, coins and baseball cards, you’ll wanna collect them all!
K.F.J.A.’s news top story has gained international attention and tabloid notoriety as pertaining to the Cressel property. This is one of the strangest stories ever reported, and you too can experience the ultimate in bizarre invasion. A five star ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Horror Bookworm Recommendation.
A rain storm beats down on the Cressel farm that brings a different kind of hail to the fields and yard of Carl Cressel. When Carl and his son go out to investigate what they think is hail lying out in the fields they are both shocked to see that it is not hail at all, but skulls! Hundreds of skulls dot his land, but what he does with them takes him and his family on a twisted ride into the bone zone!
That is about all I can hand out on a small backstory without giving away spoilers, so if you are intrigued then go read this book!
Thoughts:
I have read a few books by this author and he always seems to come up with some twisted and crazy stories that keeps me running back for more! This short story is no different and when I started reading the book, I had a hard time putting it down!
Twists, turns, and downright craziness romps through this book! Another great book by this author! Giving this short story five "Scary Skull" stars!
This was a quick read that I enjoyed after reading an epic-sized book. It has a classic farm horror feel to it. The ending is actually kind of dark, you have been warned.
Let's just say the legend of 'little green men' proves deadly in this short read. And I gotta say these little green men are scary as heck!
If you're looking for a short quick read, here you go.
Every farmer wishes a good harvest. When Carl revealed unusual skulls in his south field, he wanted benefit and profit. But, monstrous skulls are not what he thought. The battle for his survival starts. Another masterpiece of this author, keeping readers on the edge of fear.
Skulls was a wild ride of skeletal proportions. This story, like all of Allen’s tales, takes you to a desolation, and Twilight-zone-esque reality. A failing farm, a meteor shower that pelts the old place and an unexpected horror crop. The dark moments, the tension, and the skeletal visitors from a world beyond, will haunt you forever after reading this telling tale.
"Skulls" is a very fast-paced, utterly weird, and quite funny tale of a bickering couple on a farm, their son living with them and helping them take care of the fields, when suddenly something unexpected is doscovered after a brief hail storm. It's ironic how the "hail" that fell from the sky turned out to flourish when planted in the soil, and actually went underground. Similar contradictions populate the story, especially towards the middle, after the planted "hail" rises and starts a takeover. This is an accomplished short tale with very strong zombie vibes, likeable characters, and a pinch of dark humor.
This story is intense from the first page. It's a fast-paced action pack. Exploding chickens and a scary rooster are among some of the comedical relief to help break the tension.
A freak storm sweeps over the farm valley, especially on one specific family farm in the valley. The farmer of this farm has tried everything to get his southern field to grow. During the storm, hail begins to fall. What is so unusual about this hail? Can this type of hail be planted? Will this loving farm couple survive the night?
Jd Allen has knocked this one out of the park. It's a high 5 💀💀💀💀💀.

A rapidly paced story about an invasion from the sky that ends up subterranean, this one had me thrilled much like the old black and white Sci-Fi movies that I grew up watching. Major props to Allen for the nod to Ray Harryhausen, also amongst the first time I ever seen monsters on screen. This was a fun one and I couldn't help but crack a satisfied grin at the ending. J.D. is a terrific author and does a great job at helping out his peers for the sake of it, support him today before the imminent takeover!
