The Firm #1

Un abogado irresistible

Rate this book

I really enjoyed these characters but I also felt like things were a bit rushed/underdeveloped. When they finally got together physically it seemed like it came out of nowhere rather than a natural progression. They’re still hilarious and I enjoyed it but it’s a little lacking. The unrealistic orgasms are also getting very old lol. This story is also incredibly short. I think there’s a lot that doesn’t get explained or explored like the fire Damien is so focused on for instance or the baby he saved. The backstory for Elizabeth too is a little all over as well. I don’t know much about the law honestly but I think some of this doesn’t make sense lol she takes the bar but technically never went to law school, her sister did or well she did under her sisters name? And the event that led to her sister going to jail wasn’t entirely clear either. Beyond that the victim had severe brain damage. And how did they get her out of jail???? What was the fbi trying to do? I know it involves the judge and such but I still would like a bit more of an explanation. Over all it was funny and quick/easy to read. It’s just missing a few things.

Favorite lines:

“There’s a grey and white cat looking at me like I’m in the wrong place.”

“For the record, I’m married and not the slightest bit attracted to you.”

“No, I’m busy staring into the distance.”

I needed more

I was soooo excited to read this… Reasonable Doubt is one of my favorites by Whitney G… but this was missing so much, and it’s mostly because it was rushed/ended abruptly 😐.

The book opens up with Damien (no age given) showing the lengths he goes to in order to win cases (by proving a woman isn’t an invalid and can walk… and then 😐).

Fast forward to years later… he’s driving to work when a slow, reckless, barely-put-together driver in a busted Honda ends up crashing into him 😬, and the damages to his luxury vehicle will be about $78,000 😳. The other driver ends up fleeing the scene 😬🫣 right after she claims she’s a lawyer just like Damien 😅.

Elizabeth (no age given) can’t believe her luck. She’s already running late to a job interview with one of the most ruthless and prestigious companies, Hamilton & Associates. It all goes to ish when she crashes into a hot AF man, and then leaves the scene 😬. She makes it to the office and comes face-to-face with none other than the man she crashed into… and he just so happens to be one of the partners at The Firm 😬.

Now. It would seem like she wouldn’t be getting this job, but, somehow, she has a letter of reference from Damien… and he thinks it’s a forgery 😳.

It doesn’t help that Andrew (Reasonable Doubt hero) ends up hiring her without Damien knowing…

Whoops 🤷🏻‍♀️

What I liked: POSSIBLE SPOILERS
—Andrew F’ing Hamilton 👀. Gosh I missed that man 🤣. I need to reread Reasonable Doubt now lol

—the 🔥. By 35% it’s on🥵 and Damien is not a selfless lover, unlike her ex Frank 😐. Damien makes sure to get her to 💦 each and every time 💅

—he loves to eat cereal 😉🔥🥵

—and the diiiiirty talk 😮‍💨. I love me a confident man 💅

—he stalks her using intense and company resources 🤣. I love me a resourceful man 😈

—both have secrets 👀. Both of them aren’t revealing everything, even when the other one asks. I liked that we get foreshadowing to more than meets the eye

—the banter 👏🏻. I love the comebacks 😮‍💨. It made me giggle a few times 😅

—he buys her flowers 😭. Like, all the time 🫶and just because he wanted to 🫶🥹❤️

—he buys her groceries 🥹 and a car ❤️ be still my heart 🫶

—the OMD 😈. Not only is there an ex, but another one appears late in the book 👀. Damien better be good or else Elizabeth’s gonna be taken 🤷🏻‍♀️

—he reunites her with a loved one ❤️

—Olivia Benson 🤣

What I didn’t like/wanted more of: SPOILERS SPOILERS
—lack of ages/timeline 😒. We never find out anyone’s ages or how long anything’s been

—just MORE 😐. Some of the chapters were a page or two long. This book needed to be about 50-100 pages longer to really do it justice. There are so many loose ends/unexplained plot points. What happened in the fire? Who was at fault? What happened to the baby? And for the other part. What’re the details related to the jail time? I reread that page more than once and couldn’t figure out what happened in terms of the jail sentence and the victim that went brain dead 😐. There were so many details needed here

—What about the college/law school plot point? If Ellie is the one that entered college/law school, then why did Elizabeth have a college/law degree? Wouldn’t it be Ellie’s name on it? 🤨

—soooo many boxes/plot points 😕. I really wish we had more development for a lot of them. There’s angst here somewhere, but because it moves too fast and there’s not enough, it kind of fell flat. Normally, I’m a lot more immersed with what’s going on, but it just felt like boxes were being checked 😒

—what happened to Damien’s insomnia?

—miscommunication 😐. I needed more groveling to be done 😅🤣

—grammar/typos/missing words 😐. Bryan or Brian? Audio or Audi?

—we needed more about their pasts. I get it. We’re getting info revealed, but we are definitely missing stuff. Elizabeth was in the foster system that has foster parents. What happened to them? How did all of that happen?

—the gratuitous prologue 🙄

—Frank stealing her phone/clothes etc etc. So… how did she not hear Frank get into her place and steal all of this? We’re never told how deep of a sleeper she is 🤷🏻‍♀️. This causes her to wake up late. And then, all of a sudden, she has a phone again After time has pass. When does she get it? We needed more here as well.

—the separation… were they actually celibate? Elizabeth starts dating another man, but what about Damien? Is she intimate with him 😬. It’s never brought up. We see them kiss and her picture Damien 😅. I’m really more worried about what Damien is doing versus Elizabeth 🤣

—no epilogue 😐. You have to sign up for the author’s newsletter to get one. The book ends so abruptly 😒

—twin sibling 😳. We needed more about this 🤷🏻‍♀️

—something that I notice with Whitney G’s heroines is that they might not be v’s, but they might as well be 😒. In this case, Elizabeth lost her v to her boyfriend, but never experienced an O before Damien 😒

Overall, I liked some things but other things bothered me

⚠️safety squad⚠️
-no cheating/sharing/owd*
-flashback: deaths of loved ones
-parental abandonment/uncaring foster parents
-the epilogue shows the H with ow 😐 I don’t know why this scene was needed 🤷🏻‍♀️. It’s implied he gets around and will end up sleeping with the ow, but nothing’s on page
-OMD: the h has an on and off boyfriend when the books begins. She lost her v to him. They break up. After the h and H end their relationship, the h starts talking/dating OM. We see them kiss.
-dirty talk/voyeurism
-condoms/she’s only been with her ex/it’s been a while for the H but we don’t known how long/after the separation, no condom is mentioned
-HEA/No epilogue 😐/sign up for newsletter to get a one year later epilogue/months later

a rushed wannabe of Reasonable Doubt

Right off the bat, for an author who has a quirk of creating her Hs to be the grammar police, this author had several typos in her writing. Not just this book but the one before it too.

Reasonable doubt was angsty and had plot. Turbulence was probably her best book to date but now all her writing has turned into a weird satire of her own work. It’s like the Neighbor from Hell series where things are too OTT and ridiculous. It would’ve been okay if she branded herself as a romcom author instead of the angst-ridden, spicy novelist she purports herself to be.

Her books have gotten shorter and less detailed while following the same formula more or less. We don’t actually get to know the characters but rather see them in vignettes almost.

I was genuinely so excited to return to this world but it kinda sucked. Sorry. And Andrew Hamilton being the third main character with no appearance from his wife or daughter was odd. Plus the part about Michelle never being revisited or shared with the h…again very odd.

I read Reasonable Doubt a few years ago and enjoyed it so I don’t know what happened with this one. It read like the outline of a story, it jumped around from scene to scene with chapters that were only two or three pages long and the characters had no depth and did things that made no sense. Loads of plot holes and things that happened that were not explained or that just disappeared. Very strange book. Also, it really needed proofreading, she was driven in an Audio? Really? Glad it was included in my KU subscription, I’d be annoyed if I’d bought this tosh.

This book was everything that I love in a romance. I was completely taken with Damien and Elizabeth. Their interactions were full of fun banter, sharp wit, and intense chemistry. I loved that Elizabeth held her own against Damien’s dominating presence. She came in like a wrecking ball and he didn’t know what had hit him. It was hilarious, heartwarming, and completely intoxicating.

Um.
I waited so long for this, pulled an all nighter for.... what.
I'm guessing this author really is a hit and miss with me. I hated that prologue. Like what? What for? Just to get the title of the book?! No. Find another way that actually makes sense. And it was absolutely mind boggling at how fast their relationship went. And when it went... where in the world did these two fall in love? In the middle of his desk? His car?? Because let me tell you, I definitely did not see ANY communication- but at least he wasn't a cheater 🤷🏻‍♀️

And what's the plot?! I'm... so done.

*UPDATE*
I received the epilogue a few days ago, and honestly, can not remember a thing except it was so quick and basically the judge in the next book is. Not. My. Type.
...and I am very open about my type.

This was such an overdramatic and stupid story with a juvenile and overtly dumb plot. The heroine was such a moron. I can’t even say the ending was a happy-for-now (HFN), as they just got back together after the third-act breakup, but it seemed hasty and very abrupt.

What happened to the book? It’s been over THREE years and still nothing from the author. Is the book cancelled or is there still a chance? It was supposed to come out in 2021, then nothing. A few months ago it said it will be released on the 23rd of February and JUST a few days before the 23rd, it was changed to the 15th of March. What’s happening?! What kind of author does that? At least have the decency to give a us a reason! She isn’t even giving specific release dates in her E-Mail updates.
It took the author nearly FOUR years to finish and release this book and it’s still a piece of shit. Again, you had nearly four years and there are still so many mistakes in this book. Everything is rushed just everything. They have sex while still wearing their clothes? (they didn’t take off ANYTHING) in the balcony?! Just what the FUCK?? Again FOUR YEARS!!!! And still a pice if shit that does not deserve to be read

I like Whitney G books but unfortunately this one didn’t work for me 😞
I felt that the connection between the characters and even the storyline itself was choppy and rushed. This was the first time I didn’t feel anything between them. I also felt that there were loose ends left unanswered.
I enjoyed seeing Andrew Hamilton and there were definitely some good quotes but this was not my favorite of hers.

What the hell is going on with Whitney G?? I cannot believe I waited five years for this unedited, slopped together, my tween could flesh out a better plot, excuse for a story. I'm so annoyed with this crap I wish I could scrub it from my brain and wish it never happened. But it did, so heres the good and the bad.

Good: Andrew Hamilton

Bad: Every other part of the book.

I mean, come on! I can there there was a story in there waiting to be told, but where is it?? It barely made sense at times. Gah! I am so pissed off. The last two books WG gave us will be the last two I read from her. I respect my time way more than she respects her storylines.

This book's narrative feels disjointed, with the story jumping abruptly between scenes. The lack of chemistry between characters, especially the heroine and her colleagues, is glaring. It strains credibility when the protagonist, a newly appointed attorney, repeatedly flouts professional standards.

And top it off she ruined Andrew Hamilton bc the Andrew as we know and love isn’t the same Andrew, ugh what huge monstrous mistake.

THIS BOOK SHOULD HAVE NOT BEEN PUBLISHED. ITS RUBBISH AND POORLY EXECUTED.

After I really enjoyed Reasonable Doubt I was thoroughly disappointed by this book. It seemed as though it wasn’t even written by the same author. The flimsiest of plot lines, and that’s generous, absolutely zero character development, disjointed writing with absolutely no cohesion from one paragraph to the next. Typos and grammar errors galore. Two stars only because I managed to finish it.

Needs editing

The story is rushed. The characters are not developed. There are a lot of mistakes that makes following the storyline really difficult. The plot is an interesting idea but the author wasn’t able to deliver. Glad I was able to read for free through my Kindle subscription.

Uh...

This was a "miss" for me. I just couldn't get into the story. It felt like pieces of the story were missing and read more like a Suits episode than anything else. At least with Suits you can make conclusions based on what you're seeing this... was not that. I think the premise was good however the execution...not so much.

Actual Rating: 3.5 stars.

I Liked this book, it has an enjoyable story and characters and I had fun reading it. However, it does feel a bit off. Some scenes and parts of the story needed more development, as if the book hasn’t been fully completed. The ideas are all there, but some things are still missing and some others are in need of depth. Also, the writing needed editing.

Engaging, dynamic, sarcastic to a fault and oh so steamy :-D

An enemies-to-lovers romance filled with sarcastic dialogues delivered in a staccato style. It's got hot scenes that blast out of exciting banter and two lawyers clashing head to head who hide burning secrets.

I devoured this novel in a day. It's short, apparently uncomplicated, and I loved it.

This filthy lawyer is mean, cold-hearted, yet he finds his new partner annoyingly alluring. I like this new firm the author has crafted and the dynamics there. And I suffered when Elizabeth did. I wasn't expecting the final plot twist, so it really thrilled me. I was expecting something more from Damien's secret. Don't get me wrong. It's tragic and intense, but perhaps I wanted more of a release or revenge out of it. Anyway, I enjoyed this world of law, courtrooms and lethal men in suits. I want more books in this style!

The h is a loser. Its just all about she being humiliated and embarrassed in front of the H.
I mean first of all she rams her car into H’s luxury car. And she just flees the scene, as if it’s nothing. She doesn’t even pay the taxi driver who drops her to her interview.
Then the audacity of her expecting to get a job in H’s firm, which she gets ofcourse.
But everything is fine because she is BEAUTIFUL.
