Gwen Moffat’s main interests are wilderness areas and the genesis of murder, and all her books have featured one or the other. Moffat has writtenboth travel books and novels.
Really wasn't sure about this when I started the first story. Wasn't sure how this character was going to morph into a detective. But I pushed on and could see the workings of a sharp, analytical mind. Certainly drew my attention. THEN, she is traipsing around USA. In search of a short acquaintance she met in England, who, due to her mixed parentage and love of climbing and life in general, suggested Miss Pink would enjoy the country. Due to a bad attack of arthritis, Miss Pink was looking for a dry heat where English was spoken and off she went. Jaunting across the countryside, doing safe climbing and camping, landed her in strange places, with even stranger mysteries. Gwen brings her characters to life, without long protracted descriptions. You can see them through her colourful descriptions. Completely took me by surprise and I, joyfully continued to follow Miss Pink and her myriad of acquaintances from story to story. Will, happily, continue to follow this author and her delightfully astounding stories.
Similar in ways to the tv show Murder She Wrote with the actress Angela Lansbury. A English climber woman who writes Gothic novels always seems to find herself locating the dead body and ends up helping solve the murders. Each story was unique, with new exciting locations and devious villains. I wonder where our lead character Miss Melinda Pink will travel to next? The first books were situated in Wales area and the last two of these eight books was in the Rockies and desert of America's West.
Not your typical "little old lady," Miss Melinda Pink is a rock climber, Justice of the Peace and discerning amateur sleuth. Her adventures are addictive! Enjoy!
I enjoyed this series as it was different, featuring a mature age but astute and active woman, set in different geographical areas that I’m unfamiliar with. A bit convoluted in parts, re whodunit, but enjoyable.
