Worth Every Game

Rate this book
He's only looking for fun, but she's playing to win.

Elly Carter

I’ve never been interested in Jack Lansen. Sure, we’ve flirted over the years, and I can’t deny he’s gorgeous, but he’s my best friend’s older brother, and a reputed womanizer.

I’d never go near him.

On top of that, I’m a musician, and he’s a businessman.
We have nothing in common.

But when I overhear him insulting my music, I’m determined to prove him wrong.

He thinks I’m an amateur. I think he’s judgmental.

But the night I let him hear me sing, everything changes.

Is it just the music, or is it something more?

Jack Lansen

I’m a busy man, so I keep my relationships casual. But most of all, I like to have fun.

So when my little sister’s best friend overhears me insulting her music, I ask her to play for me.

As soon as I hear the sound of her voice, I know I need more.

I convince her to play another game with me.

But things soon take a serious turn.

Now, I’m in deeper than I ever thought I could be.

And I’m not letting her go.

Worth Every Game is a standalone, full-length best friend’s brother spicy romance, featuring a billionaire male lead and a feisty younger heroine, perfect for fans of Ana Huang, Lauren Asher and TL Swan.

ARC Review!!
5/5⭐️ 3/5🌶️

Rae Ryder!! You have me addicted to this series!!😆

This book had me giggling HARD! I absolutely love when MCs make it a game to see who will give in to one another first 😏

Elly and Jack are total opposite but fit so well together! I’m not usually a fan of slow burns but LORDYYY this books was so 🔥🔥🔥 The banter and chemistry was *perfection*. In all honesty I started and finished this book within half a day and ended going back to re read parts because I loved it so much!

Side note: I wanted to smack some sense into his mom… JEEZ 🤦🏻‍♀️

If you love…

-Opposite Attract
-Best Friends Brother
-Forced Proximity/ Roommates
-Billionaire
-Slow Burn
-Singer FMC

READ THIS BOOK!!

Thank you Rae for the ARC!!! I can’t wait to see what’s next in the series!! 😍

I’m so over these types of books. They aren’t romantic. You can’t have the MMC lie and tell the FMC he hasn’t even thought about another woman when we the reader know he was considering fucking another woman when the FMC was just upstairs!!

4.5 ⭐️ rounded up!

“and no matter how much i’m pretending i don’t want to play with jack lansen, i absolutely do.”

i was hooked from the start of this book and it did not disappoint! elly and jack have a will-they-won’t-they thing going on full of palpable tension that you can feel coming off of the pages. even though this is a slow burn, it gets /spicy/ (piano scene, i’m looking at you). this was such a fun read, though emotional at times, and i’m really looking forward to book three!

thank you so much to rae ryder for the opportunity to read an e-arc of this book!

ARC review

If you haven’t read book 1 go read it now! If you have and loved it then this is going to blow that one out the water. Rae is an absolute queen! I didn’t think she could beat book 1 but this a masterpiece of writing. I couldn’t put this book down and devoured it in hours. Nico was a hot billionaire god but Jack has you drooling like a puppy lol. He’s hot, fun, cheeky and dangerous and one man anyone would want to play his kind of games with.

We still get glimpses of Kate and Nico but this book focuses on Kate’s brother Jack and her flatmate/best friend Elly. The flirting hits right from the start and once the game begins they both ramp it right up till they can’t keep away. Whilst the spice is fab the storyline is amazing and develops beautifully blending in the spice. Plus we get a villain that will have every woman wanting to claw out the eyes of an absolute b***h who is a red flag from the start.

This is one book you do not want to miss out and I highly recommend it

3.5 (possible spoilers ahead)

The plot was generic. H’s sister is h’s BFF. H and h don’t like each other (but they do)
H has a different woman all the time IF they can get past his mama. (His mama is top notch insane) H’s new flavor of the week is OW (OW is also insane. Think of a bunny in the pot from the movie fatal attractions) ofc, H is also a billionaire.

h is just a waitress trying to make it as a pop singer. She’s broke asf and shares an apartment with H’s sister. The apt has some issues, so she moves into H’s place for a bit.

Supposedly, H has all these hidden feelings for h 🙃 except once when h was upstairs in her room and OW was over- H really considered shagging her while staring at her wearing nothing under her overcoat. It’s hard to believe some ruthless billionaire doesn’t know how to tell a lady to GTFO or why he continues to let his really nasty mama insert herself into his life like she is the OW. (There were many times I kept thinking mama needs some intense therapy because she’s just yuck)

Sooooooo… H and h decide to play a game. They were going to keep sexually teasing each other to see who gave in first.

Their game was dumb. I just have a hard time seeing any adult coming up with this bizarre game. Like…..JFC just bang and get it over with.

There’s a bunch of chapters about H helping h become this big famous pop star. He also gets her an orange Lamborghini *eye roll* (that she tries to sell when they break up)

Who else knew as soon as H took those dirty pictures of h and she said “delete them” that it would be the major cause of the 3rd act breakup? 🙋‍♀️🙋‍♀️🙋‍♀️ yep, we could all see that coming. The fact that H didn’t suspect OW right away just proves he is not very smart.

H has to grovel for a month. I was over this whole relationship by then.

Starting off the new year strong! If you’re looking for a spicy, funny romance with witty banter, this is it. I read Rae’s first book as an ARC and loved it. I didn’t have time to sign up for an ARC this time, but now I wish I would’ve, just so I could’ve read this earlier. I loved this one even more than the first. Long live Elly and Jack

⭐️ ARC REVIEW⭐️
Thank you Rae Ryder for the opportunity to have the ARC copy.

I hate having to rate an indie author low but unfortunately this book just wasn’t for me. While Rae continued to be a steady and easy read, despite it being well written - the plot was lacking. The insta love was more like insta lust and it felt as if the characters had no chemistry aside from their physical attraction.

It had a few inconsistencies that I couldn’t look past. It’s a billionaire romance so a couple of ‘over the top’ moments as well, but that’s to be expected so I didn’t roll my eyes too harshly at that. Predictable, but again it’s romance so I don’t judge on that too harshly.

I just wanted both characters to have more oomph and more dialogue, more banter - maybe even an earlier story of when they were “enemies” to set the scene better.

ARC review

4,5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨

If you haven’t read the first book yet, GO READ IT NOW! But if you have and loved it, get ready, because this one blows it out of the water. Rae proves she’s no newbie to writing—her storytelling is so polished it feels like she’s been doing this for years.

Worth Every Game dives into the lives of Jack Lansen (Kate’s brother) and Elly Carter (Kate’s best friend and former roommate).

The tension, the laughs, and the spice 🌶 make this book unputdownable. But what truly stands out is how both characters face their inner demons, overcome self-sabotage, and grow individually and together. Their emotional journey is beautifully woven into the story, leaving you laughing, swooning, and at times ready to throw your book (or ebook) across the room in frustration (please don’t, we love 📚)

We also get glimpses of familiar faces like Kate and Nico, but the focus remains on Jack and Elly. And let’s not forget the villain —a red flag from the start — who will make you want to claw your eyes out.

This book strikes the perfect balance between an engaging plot, lovable (and infuriating) characters, humor, passion, and personal growth.
While it’s a standalone, I highly recommend starting with the first book, Worth Every Penny, to fully immerse yourself in this interconnected series.

Absolutely worth the read, and I can’t wait to see what Rae has in store for us next! 💖

Tropes:

Best Friends Brother
Close Proximity
He falls first
Housemates
Slow Burn

This is my first book by Rae Ryder and it won’t be my last. She knows how to do billionaire romance the right way!

The banter and chemistry between the two main characters is everything. Jack and Elly come from the same circle. Jack being the brother of Elly’s best friend. Jack is a billionaire who owns his own business. Elly is a struggling musician who works as a waitress in an old rundown bar and plays her set at nights. After hearing Elly sing, Jack realizes he HAS to have her. He wants her. Elly knows that being he is her best friend’s brother, Jack is off limits. Circumstances happen that lead Elly to have to house with Jack. A little friendly game of who can make who beg for sex first begins… JUST GO READ IT ALREADY!

Thanks for allowing me to ARC read this one and introducing me to your work. 🫶🏼

Loved the heated tension in this slow burn romance between Jack and Elly as they have to live together.
The flirting hits off from the start and just increases through their banter and games. It has great tropes including forced proximity and opposites attract, and the storyline is fun and fast paced.
There is a lot of insta lust, but you also see the characters develop and grow together, Jack from an arrogant player to caring and considerate, and Elly gaining confidence and relinquishing control.
There is a great balance of plot, drama, romance, and spice, and lots of crazy antics as they rile each other up in their seduction games. This has great hate to love you tension!

“Yeah. It was worth it. You’re worth every game.”

HELLOOOOOO RAE RYDER!!!! This was my first book by Rae Ryder & I absolutely adored it! The tension between Jack & Elly had me literally screaming at my kindle for Elly to just give in. These FMCs are way better & stronger than me, i’ll tell you that much 🤣. I laughed out loud multiple times throughout this story. From Elly & her slippers to Jack & his apron, I was cracking up. I really loved the slow burn build up because HOLY. SMOKES. YALL. the pay off is🥵🥵🥵🥵. Elly = hot & she knows it. Jack = hot & he KNOWS it. So when you get two hot people together….its bound to be electric. The story kept me engaged from start to finish & had me not able to put my kindle down. I will definitely be reading more of Rae Ryder because there is something about these British billionaires that just do it for me 😮‍💨

I devoured this book! Omg what a read!

I just loved Kate and Nico’s story in worth every penny and came back for this one and I wasn’t disappointed Ella is a sweet musician working in a bar/restaurant to make ends meet while gigging in the evenings after her shift. Jack is her best friends brother billionaire and playboy who the pair have known for a while but never really acknowledged any feelings until Jack finally hears Elly sing!
This book is full of twists and games and is absolutely believable. Jack is hot bossy and falls first!

Worth Every Game by Rae Ryder - ARC Review
4.5⭐️ | 3🌶️

Worth Every Game by Rae Ryder is a captivating slow-burn billionaire romance and the second book in the Hawkston Billionaires series. The novel follows Elly, a driven yet hesitant woman grappling with career uncertainties and self-doubt, and Jack, a charismatic and flirtatious billionaire who always seems to get his way. Their dynamic is filled with witty banter, undeniable chemistry, and emotional depth as they navigate their growing feelings for each other. Jack's bold personality and charm contrast beautifully with Elly’s vulnerability and resilience, making for an engaging and heartfelt romance. While Worth Every Game can be read as a standalone, it builds upon the world introduced in Worth Every Penny, offering readers a richer experience.

Rae Ryder delivers an engaging and addictive billionaire romance in Worth Every Game, a novel that perfectly blends slow-burn tension, emotional depth, and sizzling chemistry. As the second book in the Hawkston Billionaires series, this book continues to showcase Ryder’s captivating storytelling and compelling character development.

The romance between Jack and Elly is one of the strongest aspects of the book. Their dynamic is filled with sharp-witted banter, undeniable attraction, and emotional vulnerability, creating a beautifully layered relationship. Jack is the quintessential charming billionaire—arrogant, flirtatious, and sometimes frustrating, yet undeniably irresistible. Despite his sometimes harsh demeanor, his genuine care and unwavering support for Elly make him an unforgettable hero.

Elly is a refreshingly relatable protagonist. Her struggles with stepping outside of her comfort zone and her fears about her career path add authenticity to her character. She is vulnerable yet strong, making her a compelling and realistic female lead. Her growth throughout the novel is both inspiring and satisfying to witness.

The slow-burn romance is executed masterfully, keeping readers hooked as the tension builds between the characters. The emotional stakes are high, and when the relationship finally reaches its peak, the payoff is well worth the wait. Additionally, the intimate moments are written with just the right balance of passion and intensity, making them all the more rewarding.

Overall, Worth Every Game is a must-read for fans of slow-burn billionaire romances. With engaging writing, well-developed characters, and a love story that feels both passionate and heartfelt, it is a book that will stay with readers long after the final page. While it can be enjoyed as a standalone, reading Worth Every Penny first will provide even more depth to the characters and their world.

Thank you so much Rae Ryder for the opportunity to read your book before the release. I loved it!

I loved the first one, but I absolutely ADORE this book! Words can not describe how good it is, but here is me trying anyways:

From the start, Worth Every Game promises a good plot, great character development and even better tension. And it delivers. Jack and Elly are amazing together, this book is well-written and had just enough drama to be realistic (don’t you hate it how every FMC has a stalker these days? Or am I just reading too much dark romance?). Where Kate was the unreachable popular girl, Elly feels like the nerd who vibes with everyone. Nico had a bit of the billionaire-syndrome, whereas Jack was rich but not in-your-face-rich. And the plot was just *chef’s kiss*. Seeing Elly grow into her talent and confidence was amazing, and I rooted for her from the start. I want to watch her dreams come true.

Best part about the book? Mama Lansen got what she deserved. I disliked her with a passion and while in the first book I felt slightly disappointed for how we left things with her, this book makes up for that. She learned her lesson, I hope.

Can’t wait for the next book. Rae Ryder is quickly turning into an auto-buy author for me.

This girl Elly, she's a brat. And not the kind of nice brat, the I'm worth everything but I'm also not. She is so bloody confusing and changing her mind every other sentence!
Jack on the other hand is a fucking gentleman and charmer! In my own personal opinion Elly doesn't deserve him, because this man spent millions trying to fix a problem he didn't even instigate, she did!

Like give this guy the boyfriend of the year award!

So if you haven't gathered it so far, the only reason this book is getting 3 stars, is because of Jack FUCKING Lansen!

Such an amazing 2nd book! I was lucky to be an ARC reader and it had me feeling all the emotions. I was swooning and then I was ready to throw the phone through the wall from reading hahaha.

Elly is Jack's sister's best friend, and well he is also her landlord lol. They're in each other's circles but it's never been anymore than moments of flirting or being silly. Until he hears her perform, and gets to know her. Kate is moving in with Nico and well the apartment is a dump so she winds up moving in with him. So ensues the games, the banter, the tension and angst. A game of who will cross the line first and the tension is oh so fun for us too.

Natually it happens they fall for each other, but well actions and individuals come into play to cause some grief. They're both heartbroken, dealing with their demons. There book has a focus on self-sabotage and well sabotage from others, and overcoming those issues. One thing for sure though they're both in deeeep, and this relationship has changed their lives for the better. Don't worry though things all work out and they all live HEA.

Tropes include
*Billionaire
*Best Friends Brother
*Housemates
*Opposites Attract
*Slow-Burn (trust me the tension and the action once it happens worth the delay)
*Grand Gestures

Elly is Kate's best friend, and she ends up lving wth Jack, Kate's brother who is also her landlord. They've known each other for ages, but it's never been more than that, her best friend's brother. Once they move in together though, it's game on. Jack realises he's always been attracted to her, so has Elly, but can they be somethng more?

Nico from book 1 was good, but Jack is really something else. He's fun, cheeky, a player. He gets you in three seconds flat. And boy did he play. You end up wanting to play alongside him regardless
of the consequences.

Elly did end up playing with him and let's just say it wasn't all perfect. She's self sabotaged throughout her life and she's doing it now, with Jack, her career. She needs to be in control of every little thng that can happen to her, so that she can react on time and not being blindsided. Can I say that even though he did what he did, Jack is incredibly caring and supportive of Elly that had my heart melt everytime he tried to make her feel she was worth it, in spite of everything people has said to her in her entire life?

The plot is fantastic, Jack's mum is still a pain, and was so happy for Jack to finally say something to her and rebel a bit.

4.25⭐️ Thank you Rae Ryder for this arc, in exchange for an honest review.

oooo this was fabulous!

I loved the tension between Elly and Jack. How he doesn't trust her, thinks her 'useless' and perhaps unreliable as a tenant / sister's roommate.

While there is a lot of sexual tension and chemistry, it does take a while to get to the spice.

Elly was an amazing character. I admired her bravery to go out on her own with no familial support to achieve her dream of being her singer. But she's human, she's comfortable singing at a pub where she works. She's comfortable being who she is. Chasing dreams can be scary.

Jack, however... took a while for me to get used to. Even though he was sweet and romantic towards Elly, I thought him quite harsh and cruel in place. Classic Rake. Thinks that money will solve everything.

T R O P E S
-sister's best friend
-forced proximity (roommates)
-BASED IN THE UK!
-Secret Relationship
-angst
-slow burn
-reformed playboy
-dislike to love

I laugh because this is the second book I've read that mentions Tesco (for US friends, that's the go to super store :D)

Why is it 4.25 stars? Remember what happened in Consider Me... near the end.. something got out... yeah. That was a little predictable.

Worth Every Game is the second book in the Hawkston Billionaires series. I read book one right before diving into this, and I have to say, I love the author’s writing style.

Elly is Kate’s best friend and flatmate, but she’s also a really talented singer. With Kate moving in with Nico and Jack planning to renovate the apartment Elly and Kate share, Elly ends up staying with Jack — and that’s when the fun begins.

Jack, while occasionally a bit harsh, ultimately proves to be caring and exactly what Elly needs. I loved how playful he was outside of work. I literally giggled every time he told Elly to wear her bunny slippers. And whew, this man knows how to flirt — even I felt giddy from it!

I really enjoyed these two a lot. Their banter was fantastic, and I could feel their chemistry as early as book one. I loved that this was a bit of a slow burn. We knew it was coming, but the wait made it all the more satisfying. Elly’s journey of self-sabotage and eventual self-realization was especially endearing.

I don’t think I even need to mention how wild Lydia was — I think we can all agree on that. But speaking of wild, Mama Lansen is at the top of that list. You’d think after everything that happened to her in book one, she’d have softened a bit, but nope!

I’m so excited for Matt and Seb’s stories!

This book is the 2nd book in a series and can be read as a stand alone too but I highly recommend you read each book in order!!

Rae, the author is very talented, making us laugh, fall in love with the charcters, feel giddy and angst all in the same book.

Jack fcking Lansen!!!!! He’s not only hot ❤️‍🔥 but funny and is obsessed ✨ with Elly.

There’s just enough spice, which also adds to the storyline. The characters are human-like, struggling, loving, feeling deeply - we get to see character development, understanding one another and still choosing to love each other deeply.

In my opinion there is a perfect balance between love, passion, humor, personal growth threaded into this lovely story line.❤️

Tropes:
- best friend’s brother
- forced proximity (housemates)
- opposites attract
- billionaire (spoiling with grand gestures)
- slow burn (teasing with games)

I feel so lucky to have had to opportunity to read this early. I Absolutely loved Raes first book and this was just as good.

It is a slow burn billionaire romance but with a twist.
He is her childhood best friend Kates brother, who she has always flirted with but always made out she didn't like.

He is also their landlord so when there are issues in the building she lives in, he offers her a place to stay...with him. Of course she refuses at first but due to having no other option she moves in with him. This is where the games begin...
There are so many twists and turns which keep you hooked.

I absolutely loved seeing their relationship develop and having duel point of view definately helped with this. I also loved that Kate and Nico from book one where still around. I don't want to say too much and ruin it but I definately recommend this book.

I genuinely don't think I could have enjoyed this anymore I did - I loved it from start to finish, and although this author is fairly new, she is well up there with my favourite author, and feel I don't need to bother with the blurb as I know I will enjoy it.
The authors style of writing is very easy to read and you get drawn in very quickly.
Although the main male in this book was a billionaire, it didn't really feel as if it was the typical billionaire romance - felt a bit deeper than that to be honest.
Likeable characters, with a great storyline with a short look into the characters lives from the first book In this series too, although could easily be read as a standalone too.
Great read, would highly recommend.

First off, I’d like to thank Rae for allowing me to be a part of her ARC team for this release! Alright… After the first book in this series, I really wasn’t the biggest fan of Jack - his arrogance was turning me off and that continued through the beginning of this book. I think I started to like him when his attitude towards Elly changed - when he wasn’t so harsh and judgmental. I enjoyed Elly, I liked her sassy, playful demeanor and I also found her relatable. I really started liking this book after Jack and Elly’s relationship evolved, when he was helpful with her career and so sweet and loving towards her. I really got sucked in throughout the third act breakup and definitely enjoyed the ending. I also am a big fan of Rae’s writing style, she really knows how to bring characters and a story to life. If you’re a billionaire romance fan, give this book a shot when it releases on December 16th!

Length: 399 pages

Elly is a talented but eccentric musician, battling insecurities that hold her back from chasing her dreams. Jack, her best friend’s older brother, is a cocky playboy who has always enjoyed playful banter with her—never thinking it would lead to anything more. But when Jack’s harsh words about Elly’s abilities push her to prove herself by performing at a high-profile event, everything changes.

Jack sees Elly in a new light when she sings for him—her presence captivates him, and for the first time, he can’t stop thinking about her.

Soon after, they find themselves living together, and Jack proposes a tantalizing game: who will give in first to their intense chemistry? The result? A steamy, slow-burn romance filled with banter, tension, and undeniable passion.

Their newfound connection is put to the test with Jack's mother disapproving, harsh words
and an internet scandal.

This story shines a spotlight on the struggles of being an artist—the self-doubt, criticism, and courage required to keep going. It’s a beautiful exploration of love, ambition, and the barriers we place on ourselves.

Jack and Elly’s chemistry is electric, and their journey is as inspiring as it is heartwarming.

Definitely worth the game

I loved every second of this book.
Jack and Elly are absolutely made for each other. I ate this book up.

This book was so fun, Elly and Jack brought all of the banter and all the spice.

Elly broke my heart, though. She doubted herself so much, and I just wanted to give her a big cuddle.

Who knew Jack would be such a sweetheart, but my god, did that man fall hard for Elly.

This book is HOT. They literally could not keep their hands off each other, and I am here for every second of it!.

These books are absolutely incredible, and I can't wait to dive back into more books from this series.

Thank you to Rae Ryder for an eARC copy of this book!

Worth Every Game is the second book in the Hawkston Billionaires series, and it has a little bit of everything:

Billionaire romance✅
Best friend’s brother✅
Slow burn romance✅
Third act breakup✅

4🌟
2🌶️

This book was extremely well written, and I feel like you get a lot of depth with the characters. This isn’t an insta love situation, more like a slow burn attraction that had been building for years. It really takes off when our FMC has no other choice but to temporarily move in with our MMC due to her apartment being uninhabitable. The pacing was just right, and in this case, the third act breakup actually made sense (the miscommunication trope was not at play here). Overall, I really enjoyed reading this book and will be looking forward to book 3. As for this, readers can look for it to be released mid December 2024.
