To Live Among Wolves

Rate this book
She's aching to belong.
He's desperate to keep his kingdom a secret.

Torn between reality and make-belief, Eden Thomas has never really fit in. Fifteen years of believing in werewolves will do that to a person. But when she encounters a wolf in the forest and gets taken into a secret kingdom, she finds there's more to the forest than she expected. Ancient languages, a looming threat from an age-old shapeshifter, and a growing relationship with the three royal siblings, Eden will find belonging in a place beyond her wildest dreams.

Silas--that is King Silas--assumed the throne of Arcadia after his father's untimely death. Now with the responsibility for an ancient and powerful group of shapeshifters and dealing with the return of his prodigal brother, not to mention the pesky Seer with ominous warnings, Silas must decide if it's more important to keep his kingdom safe or follow tradition. And it's much more difficult with a human in tow and his growing feelings for her.

Join Eden and Silas in an atmospheric tale set in the mountains of Appalachia, deep in the forests in the magical kingdom of Arcadia.

A dear author friend of mine often talks about not apologizing for reading a book sooner—instead the book finds you at just the right time.

To Live Among Wolves was that book for me. Dealing with an upending world, grief, and an aching to belong, I found myself seen in the pages and more than a little cheered.

Morgan pens stories with so much atmosphere I could feel myself in the woods of the Appalachian Mountains, and her allegorical elements sparkle with truth.

Truly, my soul was in need of this—thank you, Morgan! 💛😭

*And, yes, I was privileged to receive a complimentary copy of this book. No positive review was required. These are my honest thoughts of how much I loved it.

If you were the kid who wandered into the forest looking for magic you’re still half-convinced is right around the corner, you’ll love this story of family, legend, and forgiveness.

I was absolutely that kid. I loved nothing more than wandering in the woods and making up fairytales, and Hubbard has written a story that takes me right back to that childhood excitement. With wolves and prophecies and sacrifices galore, To Live Among Wolves presents a captivating introduction to the world of Arcadia.

Honestly, though, besides the fun magic and the beautiful setting (I need to see fanart for the Glade!!), this story’s themes of belonging and acceptance, second chances and prodigal’s sons, resonated with me in a beautiful way. At its heart, this is a tale about being human, no matter how wild or broken the path might be before us.

To Live Among Wolves will open your eyes to the magic around you. Sucking you into a book steeped in rich history and folk lore and magic.
Eden grew up in the human realm always feeling like there was more out there. She studied the woods and animals searching for what she once saw as a child.
Silas has lost much and now gets thrown into a role he isn't sure he is ready for with the weight of the world in his shoulders he is about to be the change Arcadia needs and the protection they crave.
To live Among Wolves gives you incredible imagery, nuggets of wisdom and hope in the darkness this was like reading a healthier better version of Twilight but with wolves instead of vampires.
I recommend this series. I'm totally ready for book two.

ENDORSEMENT :

"Hubbard weaves nature and beauty into the world of humans while allowing readers to see a grittier side but never wavering away from hope and good. Readers won't want to miss the land of Arcadia or the beasts, creatures, and one human that lives therin."

A good fantasy adventure book with a romance subplot.

Eden first met the werewolves of the Smoky Mountains when they rescued her as a young girl, and she has been searching for them again ever since. Silas has recently inherited leadership of his pack of werewolves, and they are facing threat from Nyx, an old enemy. This book follows Eden's journey as she learns about living with the wolves, the development of Silas and Eden's relationship, and everyone's involvement as they deal with Nyx.

I especially enjoyed the descriptions of the setting, both the landscape in general and Arcadia in particular. The plot focuses quite a bit on Eden learning about the wolf culture, and Silas and Eden's relationship flows naturally from that. I also liked the sibling relationships in the book, they were supportive and loving but also challenged each other and tormented each other just a little bit. That's what siblings are for.

The one thing I wished for was a bit more time just with the characters. We have very little time with Eden before she meets the wolves, so it's hard to get a good understanding of her character because she quickly becomes part of an entirely new society.

Overall, very enjoyable

There’s nothing quite as thrilling as finding a new story world to dive into.
I struggle with picturing settings and characters, but I could feel Arcadia through Morgan’s descriptions.
Far from your typical “werewolf” story, To Live Among Wolves brings the feel of generations of legend, family history, and the supernatural all together. Incredibly atmospheric.
Silas and Eden are unexpectedly betrothed and soon realize their parts to play in the future of Arcadia are greater than ever imagined before.
I think Eden’s experience is my inner dream world lived out: an “other than” Appalachian world to connect with, an adventure to be pursued, and a community to dwell with and belong to.
I have no clue how I’ll make it until December to read more of Silas and Eden’s story (and Nash)!

I was totally immersed in this book right from the start. It was magical on a subtle and believable way, making you wonder what could really exist out there in the world, just beyond our reach.

It was full of love, family and forgiveness, with enough tension and adventure that it kept me on the edge of my seat. I wanted to read through it quickly, but I also wanted to savor it and make it last- always a sign of a good book for me!

Can't wait for the next installment!

From a magical yet somehow familiar place in the heart of Appalachia, Hubbard crafts a beautiful story full of adventure and exploration. Her characters feel like friends, and readers can look forward to resonating with them through times of loss and love and everything in between. To Live Among Wolves tugs on the heartstrings of readers in all the best ways and feels like coming home.

This is the first book I've read by Morgan Hubbard and I absolutely loved it! I've never read a fantasy book set in Appalachia but I want more! To Live Among Wolves felt like coming home in so many ways since I live in the area and have always wanted magic to be real. Silas and Eden's growth as people and a couple, the magic and rituals, history and ancient beliefs made this story. It's full of comfort, facing fear, belonging, and good vs. evil. This story felt fluid and totally believable. Morgan is a master weaver of stories and I can't wait to read the next book.

Was not expecting a shapeshifter/werewolf book to be this GOOD, and be packed with beautiful biblical references/themes! Nor was I thinking I’d finish in under 24 hours.

Recommend to anyone who enjoys magical worlds, werewolves, found family, and lovable characters with doubts and flaws.

I found that everything happens so quickly in this book I almost got whiplash. There was no personal growth the same issues for each character continued to be an issue. I will say that there was a lot of detail that I appreciated and found quite lovely. I loved the small intricacies that made the world that exists within our own feel more unique. I loved the ancient tongue concept as well as the stone balancing. Those little things really made my little heart happy.

I normally prefer books that have a character driven plot rather than a scene based plot. I find them more enjoyable and to me this book was a scene based plot.

If you’re looking for a quick read this is a good one, however if you’re looking for something with more to do with the characters this isn’t it.

Do not let the “low spice” keep you away from this fantasy- I loved the story telling, the take on the secretness that is the Appalachias, and overall excellent immersion into a hidden world. Cannot wait for the next installment here

This a book I cannot reccomend enough. To give you the brief overview, I may have set this book down after finishing, but it lived in my head for days. Did I have to write a love letter to the forest after reading this book? Yes, yes I did. The world that Morgan has built in TLAW is one that is lush, grounded, magical, and so well put together. It was so easy to sink into the world and it made me want to go frolick in a forest myself. The imagery, depth, and metaphor in this book are written so beautifully that it really pulls you in. You forget you are sitting in a chair in your house, and instead feel like you too are running with the wolves.

When you read this book, you enter into this beautiful middle ground between what you know of the world and reality, and what magic layers can be hidden in the folds. Eden and Silas’s story sweeps you right up in my opinion. Legend becomes reality for Eden and I loved watching her both wrestle and delight in that. She a dreamer and a wanderer that speaks directly to my own dreaming and wandering heart. And I loved following along with all the conflicting emotions in Silas’s story. The heartbreak, the pressure, the responsibility, and the falling in deep with Eden. The complexity of all he holds is so real. I found myself unable to put this story down.

You get love, and siblings, and family in this book. You get heartache and deep emotion. You get a deep appreciation for nature and a connection to the natrual places of this world. You get themes of light and truth. You get characters getting free of burdens, of characters meeting each other where they are at. And I’ll say it again, the WORLDBUILDING.

I don’t know what words to use to describe this book really. But just know, it is well worth it. I felt my own heart set alight for the joy of nature and creating again after reading this. I wanted to find a Silas, and run with the wolves, and walk barefoot in the forest, and learn of all the ancient and hidden things. And I definitely cried at some points in this book, which is a high mark in my opinion.

So go read it. And I hope you get swept up as well.

I wasn’t totally sure what to expect when I began this book. But I was quickly captivated by the folklore, the ancient language, and the details that made this story so rich and beautiful.

I loved the Biblical themes woven through the storyline and characters and the messages of belonging and acceptance.

It is a great, scene-driven story.

The one thing I wish I could have seen more of was Eden’s story before she arrives in Arcadia. As I got to know the characters, I found that I consistently felt I was missing a large piece of who she is. It made me wish for a prequel or something that focuses on her life growing up, her story, and the things that brought her into the mountains that day.

I’m looking forward to reading book two and getting to know this world and the characters a little better!

A fast paced YA fantasy adventure with a romance subplot.

Whilst there was detail into the world building of Arcadia, small details that made this unique little world fit into our own, such as stone stacking and ancient language of the werewolves, the book was to fast paced for me, so if that’s what you’re looking for it would be perfect for you. Though I won’t let that take away from the story telling. Morgan knows how to tell a story and set a scene.

I would have loved for it to be more character based than scene based but that’s just personal preference.

A precious gem of a story—To Live Among Wolves swept me into a modern day fairytale! Hubbard has crafted a world teeming with magic and spiritualism, full of heart and wisdom. Readers will love getting lost in the wilds of Arcadia, and (if they’re anything like me) may find themselves fighting the urge to seek it out among the forests of Appalachia...

This book was absolutely beautiful. It was so touching and the ambiance is so relaxing. Silas, Nash and Caroline are portrayed as true siblings. Loving each other, fighting each other and comforting each other. I stumbled across this book by accident and I am so glad I did. It is beautifully written and a quick read.

PG-13 this was a great read! It was clean, including the language. I only wish we got to see the wedding in this book instead of having to wait until the next, and based on the description of the next the wedding probably won’t be until the end 😭
