Biu Jee: Wing Chun Mastery

Rate this book
Biu Jee brings Wing Chun to the street. That is, after perfecting your basic structure through the system's first two empty hand forms, Siu Lim Tao & Chum Kiu, Biu Jee shows us how to apply it. So many of us struggle with this - with good form and application. Well, it’s Biu Jee that brings logic and sense to the idea of "have no way as way." It shows how to use the WIng Chun structure while not being bound by it. Without the previous forms we have no core or foundation; but without Biu Jee we have no freedom of adaptability and our fighting skill gets stuck in the classroom. It's easy to miss this critical point. It's easy to think that Wing Chun is either/or - either very traditional and, therefore, tactically rigid, or wild and "whatever you feel like doing." But in this book Sifu Jason Korol takes you through not only the form itself but also its amazing and brutally logical diversity of application. Don't miss out. We need both. We need unity (structure) and diversity (freedom of application). Biu Jee is the form that gives us that.

Sifu Jason takes you on a personal journey through the form's movements, sequence by sequence, and, not to be missed, he details a variety of Biu Jee's brutal real-world implications too. Elbows for offense and defense; head butts; eye gouges; knees. It's all here. You aren't limited! Packed with photos and ideas on how to truly apply Wing Chun, so that we do indeed "look beyond the pointing finger." Lastly, with his usual dashes of humor and common sense philosophy, in the closing chapters Jason provides the big ideas that we can't miss lest we also miss the great lessons of this enigmatic form.

What others say about Sifu Jason:

"By both pen and pugilism, Jason's skills punch themselves free of the page (and screen) with a mix of good will, bad humor, and a razor sharp understanding of fight-science. You will be positively sucker-punched into a greater understanding of your craft."
Glenn Landers
WSLVT Coach (2nd Generation David Peterson) & Wing Chun Illustrated columnist (Talking Hands)

"Jason is incredibly passionate about Wing Chun Gung-fu, not just when running his coaching sessions, but it also comes across very strongly in the way that he writes about the system. Every aficionado of Wing Chun should add Jason's books to their personal collection. Highly recommended!"
David Peterson - WSL Combat Science Malaysia

"Jason is an exceptionally skilled martial artist and a prolific, talented writer. Since 2015 he's been a valued columnist for Wing Chun Illustrated. His contributions, filled with insight and expertise, demonstrate a profound understanding of Wing Chun and Jeet Kune Do, greatly enriching our publication. Jason's dedication to martial arts and his remarkable ability to clearly and passionately articulate complex concepts make him a true asset to our magazine."

"If I could only study with one instructor, I would recommend Jason Korol. An amazing instructor who breaks down JKD & Wing Chun like no other instructor I've known and I've been in the martial arts for 45 years. All his materials are a wealth of knowledge and would benefit any martial artist at any level. A truly caring instructor who cares about his students. Thanks, Jason, for all you've done for me.

Theologian? Martial Arts warrior? Philosopher? Yes

This was one of my favorite books by the sifu. Jason once again boils down the basics of violence, but never let's the reader forget that this game of life is no game - if you don't acknowledge the truth of it all. Evil exists. This world is fallen. But that doesn't mean we have to walk around defenseless. Gouge evil in the eye; fight dirty if you have to, because the Lord knows evil people certainly will. But don't lose sight of the main thing. You do that, and you're certainly no martial artist. That's the gist of Biu Jee. Be ready for not if butnwhen things don't go all hunky dory. Then at least you have a fighting chance. Oh, and you might as well learn some pretty cool basic moves while you're at it. Once again, the most dangerous man in the room humbly, humorously shares philosophy, wisdom, theology, and violence in one volume that thinking readers and real martial artists (those of us who do a lot of thinking anyway) will appreciate. Thanks for another good one, Sifu!
