The lesson had been burned into her brain since she was ten years old. A nineteen year old girl who does not know her name, her birthday or her parents. All she knows is what has been beaten into her. The Omega's Mantra.
An Omega must do as an Omega is told.
One moment changes everything. It sends her life spiralling into chaos and ruin and pushes her closer and closer to death. A simple rejection, a half severed mate bond and the order to tell no one what has happened.
An Omega must do as an Omega is told.
A red ribbon for banishment and a blue eyed man calling for justice as she makes her walk barefoot in the snow. Cold winds tearing at her skin and the howls of the wolves waiting for her beyond the tree line but she still moves her weak body forward at an Alpha's command.
An Omega must do as an Omega is told.
Being saved will always come at a price and the girl Alpha Lawrence affectionately called Mary Mary after her favourite nursery rhyme, has paid the price a hundred times over. Now she must be taught that 'Once an Omega' doesn't always mean 'Always an Omega' because family can be found at the darkest of times and not all Omegas need to do as they are told.
Trying to work through the mess of her mind, she tries to discover who she is under the cloak of Omega. Drowning in her memories and her anxiety, she struggles to find solid ground before her problems pull her under completely, smothering her cries as she fights for normalcy.
Author Bio: I'm just your average sarcastic, introverted author who has a demanding job and no life, who spends all her free time writing stories.
I write because I love doing it and I love creating stories and characters. So I hope you love them just as much
I currently have two series on the go, Forgotten and Twisted Dark. I also have various other projects on the go and if anyone wants to ask me anything go right ahead!
Reader Bio: I love reading and ive been a reader since I first picked up a book. I love to review books and get my thoughts out there. My ratings do make sense once you understand them.
Rating scale:
5 stars- Will read again/have read again
4 stars- a decent read, very enjoyable/may read again 3 stars- average book with decent enough writing/will more than likely not read again
2 stars- did not enjoy but the writing or plot was decent/the book was not for me.
1 star- no, absolutely not/there was little redeemable I found in the book.
I genuinely love this book and this series. The build up of each individual character and their storylines is incredibly masterful and showcases the complexity behind each of their stories. While doing so, the author also does not delve into massive amounts of detail of the side characters beyond the two main characters, Mary and Bennett. You learn just enough to love (or hate) the character, and maybe enough to read a future story about them.
I also really appreciated the world-building. The way the author spun the story almost makes it seem like you can feel each of the sensations and emotions that the characters are, see the environment they’re in, and experience the story through the lens of the main character Mary.
One of the main themes within the book revolves around mental health. Since this is a major plot point, it is imperative that it well researched and written with respect to the field and those affected, which I think was achieved. Typically, when a book includes major traumas and healing from them with mental health professionals, I am always wary because of the lack of awareness to the gravity of the subject and a jumble of information that does not make sense to the issue at hand. However, this author has clearly spent the time and done the work needed to ensure they have a deep understanding of the conditions they are explaining in the book. The authors shows how Mary is able to move and grow and showcase that healing is an ongoing process, never truly completed but can achieve a level of comfortability. There can also be set backs, big and small, that can hinder that process, and how to navigate them while maintaining relationships. Both of these aspects of mental health and healing are very well written.
There were only minor issues I had with the book, all grammar related. Some sentences sounded weird to me or commas could’ve been helpful in some spots.
Beyond that, the story is beautifully created, and clearly has had a lot of thought and effort put into it.
Note: I am not great with reviews; but I am not lying when I say this is one of the best shifter books I have ever read!!
Where do I start from? I loved the book, the character detailing, and development is extremely good.
I first read it in Wattpad, and to be honest have been waiting for the entire series to be published.
The entire book, is very touching; it touches upon various things, heartbreak, abuse, trauma etc., and the way in which the author has dealt with it, is so beautiful and delicate.
Maricella and Bennet, (star eyes) what do I tell about them; I absolutely love them! Maricella seems to be a delicate woman, but she has grit in her, that just keeps her going.
This book has given me a lot, I cried when I finished the book, that’s how connected I was, with all the characters.
The character arc, development, plot line, everything keeps a reader hooked for more.
Can’t wait to re read the other books in the series.
ARC courtesy of author in exchange for an honest review.
I read this book years ago on Wattpad! And it still surprises me how good it is. In fact, the entire series is amazing.
It's a complex fantasy story, but it touches on current topics. It is a totally relatable and realistic story about trauma, prejudice and anxiety. It is a journey through Maricella's healing process. And through the adaptation of the family in learning on how to deal with the ups and downs of this process. It's a book where the characters are humanly imperfect, but the protagonists try every day to be better and do better.
I'm a sucker for fated mates love stories. I loved the love story between Maricella and Bennett. From the way the romance unfolds to the complementarity they present in each other.
It is an intense story. But it leaves you light and warm when you finish it. All because you take with you a little of Maricella's warmth and kindness and Bennet's strength.
Congratulations to the author! This book is a solid start to an incredible series. 😃
This is one piece of media that will live with me for the rest of my life.
I can remember the first time I read this book, how I was younger and looking for yet another werewolf romance book to binge through, and this stopped me in my tracks.
Red Ribbons is the antithesis of a standard ‘werewolf romance’. It delves into complex character relationships and behaviours. Not the ‘my character has trauma but can overcome it overnight’ kind of story.
Our MC, Maricella, is tangible, layered, and deeply flawed. But despite all that, she is very likeable and this book seems to be able to do that incredibly well - portray this idea that even though a character is ‘good’, not everything they do is ‘good’ and vice versa.
Thank you Anna! I’m looking forward to where you go from here :)
This book kept me on my toes. First of all, this was the first book that I have read, representing the A/B/O that way. It was really interesting for me to see such difference from all the other I have read.
We all love strong independent FMC, but let me tell you, sometimes I just love a soft girlie one as well. We can't always be strong, sometimes we just want to be taken care of! (Or that is just me lol)
The only thing that didn't make this a 5 star read for me is that at the start, I didn't really get how anyone looked like, including her box.
Overall I liked it, so can't wait for the next one as well!
Red Ribbons is a unique story which has earned 5 stars from me. The author does a great job of immersing you in this well-built world. I was drawn in almost immediately and felt a range of emotions while reading. This book contains some triggering events and traumas that Mari endures and has to navigate a path forward from. I enjoyed the realistic journey that Mari takes to heal from these traumas. I look forward to reading the next book in this series.
It's been a while since I've read this book but it's one of those amazing books you can't forget about no matter how much you try to. I honestly love how mental health was taken seriously. It's very rare to see a book in which trauma is dealt with and I love it.
I really love how the healing process for Mary Mary was not rushed and we get to see her discover herself slowly . There was romance as well but it was not the focus of the book.
I don't usually read books with less romance tbh but i loved this!!!!! ( I know I've said this already)
The plot was amazing as well, the author focused on mental health and had a wholesome plot I honestly love this book, no wait i love this whole series and recommend y'all to read it
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Through tragedy something can still come out beautiful. This book offers something relatable. Its deep. Offering a different point of view, I learned something personal from it.
I typically am not very good at writing reviews simply because I often feel as though I can’t find the right words to properly articulate my feeling towards specific things, but with this one I just can’t seem to shut up about it. I read this series on Wattpad first and instantly fell in love with it but this is the one that started it all. The world building, the characters, the storyline, just everything. It has been amazing to fall back into this series once again now that it is published.
Due to her delicateness and overall soft-nature, Maricella is a complex character whose personality goes against a lot of the strong and independent female characters we are seeing an uprise of, but I think that’s what makes me love her so much. She isn’t strong in the formal sense of the word but when it comes to mental strength, she gives a lot of the other characters a run for their money. The growth she shows throughout the book is so, so beautiful and like a breath of fresh air. Not only was her ‘healing” journey realistic, but I also found it incredibly moving.
And *whew* , lets talk Bennett. His character, along with Mari's, had depth and was so much more than your typical love interest. He didn't feel like a cardboard cutout and you are truly able to get a sense of the love he carries for Maricella and who he is as a person which felt so relieving to read about. I personally love a possessive MMC, when written correctly, and Bennett definitely fits that bill to a 'T'.
This book transcended being just a love story for me, though. Truly. But, watching the way Maricella and Bennett love/care/fight for each other was so beautiful and truly one of my favorite parts. However, what truly made it a five-star rating for me was not only the intricately woven storyline(s), the richly crafted, yet somehow simple, world-building, the loveable side characters (Collin🤭) who added layers of charm, but Maricella's transformative journey throughout the book. The way the plot unfolded kept me engaged from start to finish of this book (throughout the WHOLE series, really) and yanked a whole range of emotions out of me which is hard to do.
Overall, if you couldn’t tell from my incessant rambling, I highly, highly enjoyed this book and the characters within. I cannot wait to re-read the rest of the series once they are published!
I love this book! It is so nice to finally read about the process of healing from trauma realistically (slowly), instead of it just magically disappearing. I loved that all of the characters had their flaws and that no one was perfect, because no one is perfect.
I loved that Mari was not shown to just shrug off her trauma. Mari is strong, because it takes strength to feel all the hurt and pain and manage to get back up every time you are thrown down. It is so easy to just portray it as having a breakdown and then it's over, the personality changes, she is strong, hard, takes revenge and then all is good. But trauma doesn't quite work like that. And I was so glad to see that her personality remained the same, and she kept her hope up and never gave up.
The werewolf genre has so many unhealthy books passing as okay, and this book is so refreshingly different from that uncontrollable possessiveness that disregards the wishes of the significant other. And it is also not just about romance.
I feel so attached to the book and the characters in it. I loved how realistic everything is, there is logic in the world, it is well build and everything makes sense. And of course I loved the happy ending. I hope all of us heal from our trauma and have a support group and acceptance like Mari did. I feel so moved and happy that Mari managed to find these.
Thank you Anna for sending me the e-book. I hadn't read this book in years and it is still as moving as the first time. I look forward to your next books being published, especially the third one (my favourite) and I hope I have the opportunity to make reviews for the next books as well.
Let the angst begin. Other reviews have stated that this is a realistic type story but in my opinion, it is not. It's very hard for me to wrap my head around how the head omega Ingrid was able to discreetly abuse "Mary Mary." How is it that the head alpha, Alpha Lawrence, was completely oblivious to the abuse , especially after her change? I don't know about you but my dad would notice if I turned into a zombie version of myself. Why did Alpha Lawrence have such a nasty beta? Bad judgement, bad leadership, bad alpha.
It's just not very realistic. It is very unrealistic how World building needs more work. It leaves you with the impression that most of the Lawrence pack consists of males and omega women, with Ingrid as the devil. But where are the other women?
And of course, this is one of those types of books where the FMC doesn't get any for years while the ML gets "innocently" around.
The relationships Mari has with seems a bit childish, the men seem childish. It doesn't seem deep, the character building is not very strong there.
But I'm not going to rate this as if it were a published book. I'm going to rate it as a fanfiction. I almost did not finish because of how wordy it is.
Also, clean as a whistle.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
I'm happy to say I am an ARC reader for Red Ribbons.
This is my first time writing a book review, however when I was given the opportunity to become an ARC reader for this book I just had to take it. There isn’t a better series I would want to start with! The forgotten series is one of my favourite book series that I have stumbled upon during my wattpad years. I am extremely excited that they are being published. Ribbons is the perfect book to introduce a different side of a werewolf universe I haven’t read in any other series.
You join Mary on her long and heartfelt journey of recovery and healing from the abuse and trauma that she has suffered through her years of being an Omega. Though it covers some rather heavy topics the author has such a way with words. She makes you understand what Maricella is feeling and dealing with on a day to day basis and how she is coping. Even though I have read this book multiple times, it still pulls at my heartstrings.
There is a lot of evil in the world, but there is a lot of good too. It only takes a small act of kindness to impact someone else’s future. Watching Maricella and Bennett’s story unfold throughout the pages of Maricella's healing is heartwarming. Bennett is a strong and tough shifter but is nothing but sweet and gentle with Maricella and will protect her from the world.
If you are thinking about reading this book PLEASE do. You won’t regret it and you will have no choice but to fall in love with the characters and story.
Red Ribbons is the First Book in the Forgotten Series and is a definite must read. There are some major triggers, however, the author takes the time to explain and detail the effects of the abuse and triggers as well as how they effect those around the FMC. All that said, bear in mind that there is a supernatural element to this story as well. I didn't love that the Mari's father didn't do more for her and other Omegas in his care and by not stepping in, allowed the abuse to continue, however, he is held to account and deeply regrets his choices. We see how singular decisions and choices can have horrid consequences. Andrew, the young, new, father, trusting his Beta, then not knowing how to help his daughter, and doing nothing. Jace, lashing out, when he was angry at someone else and destroying Mari's trust in an instant.
The fact that Mari still appears child-like is not unusual in that she had her whole childhood stolen and is now just starting to grow up emotionally, but her response to Lace shows that she is very aware of her behaviour. This book is a fascinating look into severe abuse and conditioning and what it might look like to try to break free from that. It's not an easy read, but extremely worth it and I will eagerly wait for the other books to be released in this series!
I have waited SO LONG for the Forgotten series to finally get published!
These books have been with me for years and I mean that in the truest way possible. Every single book in the series is an absolute masterpiece. All of them cut you to pieces, make you feel every emotion right alongside those characters and leave you reeling and thinking about them long after you've finished the last page. These stories would be utterly gloomy and only depressing if not for the author's mind-blowing talent to give back hope, piece by hard earned piece. Every single book in the Forgotten series is tough to read but that's because they are honest, gritty, raw and don't gloss over the hard stuff. And that's their beauty.
Red Ribbons is just the start, a first glimpse into a world which can be unbelievably cruel and at the same time overwhelmingly beautiful. Which is so complex, so enthralling that it will grab you and never let go.
Definitely one-click today. Enter the Forgotten series and never be the same.
Forgive me for any rambling or mistakes, this is my first ever book review. I found this book on wattpad a few years ago now and I have returned to read it quite a few times. As this is an intro to quite an extensive series this is an excellent first book into the world. Learning alongside Marcellia about what her world looks like.
Of the book it's self, I think this is one of the more realistic trauma books I have read. None of this mystery suddenly a badass, super powerful, unaffected woman gets the perfect man and goes back to the abuser and wins the mighty fight and life is peachy forevermore. It highlights that recovery is a journey and while there are steps foward there are also steps. This book has reminded me to be patient with myself, and work towards better, not perfect, better.
"My favourite word is 'better'. Things will be better now. You will get better".
Love can cure most but it takes time, and patience. Lots of patience.
I've read this book from Wattpad a few years back and this book is the beginning to the Forgotten Series. The storyline from the series are so amazing that I have to read the book again.
I have a obsession with a tear jerker book and this book really make me cried a bucket. My heart just hurt so much for Mary.
This book shows how important it is to have a mental awareness among community. The moral support that Mary's family shows really touched my heart. Besides, there's a lot of supporting characters which give impact to Mary's life.
I'll absolutely need to read the next book by Anna even though I've read them from Wattpad.
The storyline are interesting and always leave the reader at the edge of their seat. The book makes me feels angst and leave me wailing whenever Mary recalled her trauma.
The forgotten series, a series of books I have read over and over again and just can't seem to get enough of. Therefore I was overjoyed when finding out that the first book of the series had been published and was now available for purchase. The series is truly original in it's perception of the shifter universe and it's traditions. This book specifically highlights the impact of trauma and the ups and downs of the healing process. It sparks sadness, fear, anger, joy and laughter, but most importantly hope inside the reader. I not only shed the occasional tears while reading, but also found myself giggling at certain scenes. It is a perfectly bittersweet combination of heart-wrenching reality and tender romance.
I would definitely recommend this book for anyone interested in the shifter universe. It is truly unique.
Red Ribbons is a book entangled with grief, trauma and abuse, It is is a book that at times feels tough to read because Anna doesn't gloss over the hard- no we experience every nitty gritty detail, and that makes the love, the family, the strength of the characters so much better. I enjoyed reading this book and can't wait to finish the rest of the forgotten series!
This story was pretty decent. I found it on wattpad, and after reading this one, I'm definitely going to read more by this author. There was plenty of angst to go around through the entire tale. The only issue I had with this one was the last half did seem to drag on a bit, and felt very long before it finally came to the actual ending. All in all though, it was an enjoyable story.
This story was deep. I got lost in it, and I really enjoyed following along with Mary Mary's journey. The story really shows just how deeply trauma and abuse can go, and it will always live deep inside somewhere.
I applaud the author for her knowledge and the skill she put into writing this book. It is definitely one of my favorite reads!
Read about a poor omega who is a pawn for revenge . Taking her and forcing mantras onto her leaves permanent scars. See how she survives ,leaves her pack and adapts. Great read
This was a excellent book. The character development was great. I was so impressed I stayed up late trying to finish it. I would definitely recommend this book.
This book is the first book to make me fall in love with this author. I first read this book on Wattpad and instantly fell in love not just with the book but with the author as well. The way the author articulates everything in her writing is so well crafted that it paints a perfect picture.
I love that this author is finally getting recognized for her amazing work. This book is the first in the “Forgotten Series” and it’s a work of art. You can truly feel the angst, the raw pain and the happiness flow through the words. I truly enjoyed the characters Mari & Bennett. The story covers trauma and mental health. I’m grateful the author put in trigger warnings.
I truly enjoyed how the author didn’t just write off Mari’s trauma or make it seem like she overcame it just because a male came into her life. I loved that she thoroughly did the research on how to overcome trauma and it shows in her writing. Mari’s character development is amazing, it may seem like she’s a weakling but in reality she’s the strongest character in the book. I appreciated how thoughtful and understanding Bennett (her mate) is with Mari. He doesn’t push her or think he can “fix” her.
Truly an amazing read, this was the first book I read from Anna Koski and it holds a dear place in my heart. I hope more people get to enjoy her work.
Thank you Anna for sharing the ARC copy with me, cannot wait for the rest of the books to be published as well.
