Angel Ramírez has been searching for five hundred years for an escape from his dark existence. What he didn’t expect was to fall in love with someone who has all the answers to a future he’s desperate for. She just doesn’t know it yet.
Lily Thompson isn’t the type that likes loud parties or going out at the end of a long day, but finals week has her more anxious than normal and her roommate, Anne, insisted a night of drinks and dancing at the nightclub would take her mind off things. What should’ve been a fun night out ended with Lily being attacked in an alley and rescued by a man she swore had wings.
As terrifying as the whole thing was, she is captivated by the mystery man and he in turn can’t stay away. She accepts his reality in the shadows all too easily and then there are those dreams that wake her up at night…
She’s a light in the darkness he’s afraid may be snuffed out by his mere existence, but she has a secret of her own, a secret she’s not even aware of that can make all the difference for him. Just as Lily uncovers the truth about herself, her darkest fears return. She has few options. She must find the strength to face a painful past or be buried by it.
DNF @ 40% - I was ready to DNF earlier than this but tried to continue and give it another chance. Unfortunately this story isn't working for me. My reasons for not finishing will be below, no spoilers beyond what you can find in the synopsis.
Thank you to the author for providing me with an eARC. I wish her all the best with this & future books. . . . . . . - I am not so sure this book should be marketed as a fantasy romance or romantasy. Paranormal romance, sure, but I was not getting fantasy romance vibes in the first 40%. - I really struggled to connect with either of the main characters. Lily is a privileged NYU student whose main personality trait is her anxiety and she cries a lot. - Within the span of a week, Lily gets attacked then saved by Angel twice, sees he has wings, learns he's a vampire and she has....no reaction whatsoever? - It's giving hardcore insta-love. - The spice was awkward. Like it's not quite fade-to-black, but it's also not descriptive enough. So it just feels like things are missing.
This book seriously scratched the Twilight itch. While different than twilight, it was fun to read about Vampires and romance again—and there was even a twilight reference that made my inner middle school self so happy. Angel is a morally grey MC who falls in love with Lily, a normal NYU student who loves music. I love the protectiveness of Angel and that there is no doubt he cares for her, while fighting every bit of his true nature. This was a book that was so easy to get through, it kept you guessing and the connection between Angel and Lily was fun to read. At times, it did feel similar to other vampire novels I have read, but that’s bound to be expected (I have read a lot). I will ABSOLUTELY be reading book 2 when it comes out to try to discover more of Angel’s secrets and Lily’s abilities. Definitely recommend to any Twilight lover or a lover of vampire lore with a lot of fun romance in between.
I just finished this book and woah i love this book so much and i love Angel and Lily so much!🥹 I couldnt put this book down and i finished it within 24 hours of starting it and im a pretty slow reader so that says a lot i think on how good it is in my opinion!
Writing style, absolutely loving it! Detailed but not too detailed! What was needed to know you got to know and not more and i absolutely loved that!
And angel being such a great morally grey character, wanting her but also twisted in thinking of himself as a monster and wanting her to be safe but also not wanting to be too close, still giving in too! Im drooling where is my hot vampire with dark hair and a man bun please?🥹
Twist in this book on point, i honestly knew something was coming but i was not prepared it would be this so that was a pleasant surprise!🥰
Overall, absolutely enjoyed this book and highly recommend it if you want a sweet but also a bit with angsty and still spicy read😌🖤
Amy Prokopis has crafted a narrative that not only captivates the reader's imagination but also intricately develops multi-dimensional characters that resonate long after the final page is turned. From the very first chapter, I was ensnared with the authors vivid prose and compelling storytelling. One of the most engaging aspects of this novel is the character development, particularly that of Angel Ramirez, a centuries-old vampire. Prokopis infuses life into Angel, allowing readers to witness his struggles, desires, and complexities. This depth of characterization transforms him from a mere archetype of the vampire genre into a relatable figure who navigates the challenges of immortality and the weight of his past. Prokopis’s ability to breathe life into each character is a hallmark of her writing, and that made me feel deeply invested in their journey. Equally impressive is the growth of Lily, the female lead, who embodies strength and resilience. Throughout the novel, Lily evolves from a character grappling with her identity into a powerful individual who embraces her potential. Her journey is not just one of external conflict but also of internal discovery. The richly crafted universe enveloped me, and transported me into a realm filled with magic, intrigue, and dark undertones. The intricacies of the setting complement the plot, creating an immersive atmosphere that is hard to escape. The author’s keen attention to detail allowed me to visualize the landscape and feel the tension in the air, making every moment of the story feel immediate and urgent. In conclusion, I can wholeheartedly say that this amazing read has not only hooked me but has also turned me into a devoted fan of Amy Prokopis!

Lily Thompson is a rich girl in college who has everything she could ever ask for. The problem is, she doesn’t want it. It isn’t until she stumbles upon Angel Ramirez that she has the courage to push the boundaries and be who she wants to be.
She no longer wants to be the mouse, she wants to be the lion!
This is book one in a series. I really enjoyed this book, I kept turning the pages wondering where we were going next. The strength the MMC provided the FMC was beautiful and honestly the FMC provided the same strength to the MMC but in a different way. Their love story and growth in this book flowed so nicely and I can’t wait to see how they progress even further. There is still so much more development to both of these characters that I feel like book two is going to help tie off any loose ends.
Thank you Amy Prokopis for allowing me to read your book! ♥️
Romantasy readers who love stories that base mostly on romance rather than fantasy - this one’s for you! I was sold the moment I saw that this book was about vampires, and, as you may already know, I’m a huge fan of the whole concept. I will be honest, I personally prefer romantasy to be focused more on the fantasy part, but I ended up enjoying it anyways. The first half felt a bit like fan fiction, as if it didn’t have a plot, but I’m glad to say that it changed closer to the second half of the book. Other than that, it was an easy and fast read, with nice characters, dark romance, LGBT representation, and lots of vampire drama.
I've seen the overall vibe of this book be described as twilight for adults and I totally agree. The beginning starts off a little slow but the second half of the book gets pretty exciting! If you like vampires, romance, spice, and some intense action scenes, you'll love this book. The 2nd one is already in the works! The cover was just revealed! I'm so curious to see where this story goes and how Angel and Lily fare in this next book.

Review: I've been dying to read this arc and I am bouncing off the walls with how much I'm addicted to this story and this couple!
Lily is a young musician in her final year of college who's always been more of a homebody , not one for the night life. When she decides to join her friend for a rare night out, she's attacked and saved by something she can't explain, someone she could swear had wings! She gets pulled into mystery man and savior Angel's world of vampires but also sees so much more than the monster he thinks he is. As they explore one another's feelings, a different kind of threat breaks into their respite and threatens to rip them apart just as they're starting to fan the flames of their love.
The glorious angst and beauty of Angel just shook me to the core. He emotes such strength and awareness of his capabilities yet the vulnerability that creeps in for the intimate scenes just tightens my chest to the core. The visuals of his vampirism, how his powers have grown, how he manages them, is fascinating! It all feels very tangible and plausible. His primal nature, how and when he could lose control, it created such wonderful tension with him and Lily.
Lily is so fully human, down to her bouts of anxiety, past trauma, insecurities from family pressures etc. Yet despite this, she has her own dreams she wants to live through her music and Angel coaxes and encourages this spark in her, empowering her.
I love the turmoil Angel feels within himself, how he sees himself as a monster but trying so desperately hard to manage his primal needs and hating Lily to see that side of himself. Taming the Beast, as it were. She is very accepting of all of him and this is achingly beautiful to watch develop.
The evolution of this couple and the devoted focus to their inner complexities has transformed them to be deeply relatable and compelling. I am transfixed by the drama and the angst but relished the detailed elements of vampirism, complete with elements of gore and violence but not without its own brutal beauty.
With deepened focus on character development, this first book is a solid foundation for what no doubt will be a more action packed and higher stakes (forgive the pun) installment. This wait is gonna be torture lol.
Curse of Wings and Darkness is a captivating vampire romance that swept me off my feet! The story follows Angel Ramírez, a morally gray vampire haunted by his dark existence, who has been searching for an escape for five hundred years. Enter Lily Thompson, a rich college student whose life takes a thrilling turn after a fateful night at a nightclub. When Lily is attacked and rescued by the mysterious Angel—who may or may not have wings—their undeniable chemistry ignites a tale filled with suspense and intrigue.
Prokopis's writing style strikes the perfect balance between detailed and engaging, making it easy to immerse yourself in the world without feeling overwhelmed. Angel's character development is particularly impressive, as readers witness his internal struggles and fierce protectiveness over Lily, who also evolves beautifully throughout the story. From a girl who fits into everyone’s expectations to a brave young woman embracing her powers, Lily’s journey is inspiring and relatable.
The connection between Angel and Lily is not only fun to read, but it’s also laced with tension, creating a compelling push-pull dynamic. Their relationship is both sweet and angsty, with enough spice to keep things exciting. I loved how their interactions highlighted both the dangers of Angel’s true nature and the depth of his feelings for Lily.
With the promise of more secrets to uncover and Lily's new seer abilities, I cannot wait for book two! If you enjoy a mix of romance, suspense, and a touch of the supernatural, Curse of Wings and Darkness is a must-read!
Angel and Lily… He rescues her, but she is far from the damsel in distress she might believe herself to be. I loved the complexity of the MMC and the FMC in Curse of Wings and Darkness.
Lily is an accomplished cellist studying music at NYU. She and her bestie roommate, Anne, hit the club one night. Anne finds herself in instant attraction with a woman and Lily finds herslf in a dangerous situation with a guy she met on campus.
Angel is Lily’s knight in shining… wings, fangs, and all kinds of sexy dangerous mystery.
I was hooked on this centuries old man from the moment he said, “I’m yours, Lily. I swear it. I will never hurt you and anyone who tries will find themselves in pieces.”
If you’re new to the world of dark romantasy/paranormal romance, this is your book. There are author trigger warnings, but nothing that made me need to take a break for being overly dark and twisted. The contemporary setting made this an easy-to-follow story line. The twists and turns of the characters had me guessing, questioning, and through nervous at times. I flew through the pages on my Kindle.
I appreciated the real life issues that many of us non magical readers face, that were woven through the story line of this book. Angel and Lily are healing for each other and I can’t wait to see what happens next and where this story takes us.
I just ordered my physical copy for my shelf trophy and can’t wait for book 2.
Lily, a college student, encounters Angel - a 500-year-old vampire on a night out. While first a little annoyed by this meddlesome stranger, he soon saves her from a terrible fate.
Lily, our FMC, has a passion for music. She's a cellist and has a pretty toned-down existence, largely in part due to her anxiety, but she yearns to find success in her art. She isn't your typical feisty FMC, but she is quietly curious and perceptive.
Angel, our MMC and resident vampire, is trying to rid himself of his "curse" (the vampire thing). He's morally grey and a bit of a vigilante vampire. Very broody, with a huge soft spot for Lily. I love how he cares for our FMC and always takes her feelings into account.
While a lot of the story focuses on the romance, there are some bigger factors at play as well, which come to light as our story progresses. I loved the build-up, and I couldn't put it down through the suspense.
The conflict resolution at the end was perfect, and I'm anticipating the next book!
4⭐️ 🌶️ “Curse of Wings and Darkness “ is a dark and gritty 🩸Vampire/ Human love story. The story was good … it had some “Twilight “ / Dracula vibes. It was pretty tame compared to some of the other vampire books I read. But it was still good and I loved vampire “Angel “ and his undying love for MFC Lily. MFC Lily is a musician and has bouts of anxiety, MMC”Angel “ saves her from a brutal attack and she soon starts falling for him . He becomes very protective of her and helps her overcome the doubts about herself . She also has some type of supernatural gift but I won’t spoil it. This story was very steamy 🥵 but you kinda have to use your imagination 🧐😅which was a little bit of a 🙁bummer, but it didn’t hinder me from enjoying this story. ❤️ Overall I did enjoy this book and it did end on a cliffhanger so I’m curious to read more about “Angel & Lily” ❤️❤️ Thank you to the author for letting read your ARC❤️
Curse of Wings and Darkness was a mixed read for me. The romance really stood out; Angel is the kind of supportive, caring vampire MMC who only wants the best for Lily, and his devotion felt genuine and steady throughout. Lily, on the other hand, is a heroine battling her own mental health, and I appreciated how Angel’s presence balanced her struggles in a heartfelt way.
The pacing, though, was a challenge. The beginning felt choppy and lacked direction, though it did start to pick up around the halfway mark. I also wanted more from the villains and the challenges they posed—they were resolved too easily, which lessened the impact of the stakes. As for the ending, it was fine, but it didn’t feel like a natural close to a first book in a series. It was clearly setting up the sequel, but a little out of place here.
Overall, good vibes for the romance, but the story left me wishing for more intensity and sharper execution.
If you tell me there’s vampires in a book, I’m reading it. 🤷🏼♀️😂
Short Synopsis: Lily is a cello student at NYU. She struggles with letting loose, but at her roommate’s insistence, the two celebrate the end of finals week. But their celebration takes a dark turn and Lily swears her savior had … wings?
My Thoughts: I’m a sucker for vampire books (pun intended.) This book is so fast-paced I was able to binge it in less than 24 hours. (I do appreciate a fantasy book that’s under 400 pages! 🙌)
If you like twilight, but want a more adult version, then this is for you!
Can’t wait to find see where Lily’s and Angel’s story takes them next.

ARC Review This book was a fast read for me! I’m a huge fan of vampire books and this happens to be one. The beginning felt a little rushed with the storyline, but I enjoyed the rest of the book. The main character Lily struggles with anxiety and the book depicts her struggles with this. This book was well done and shows her trying to live her life normally despite the struggles she faces. Lily is in college and is in the midst of finals week when her friend drags her out on a night out. These nights out are a not normal occurrence for her, but this time she decides to go. She meets a mysterious man named Angel that ends up being her savior when her friend leaves her and she runs into trouble. This books comes out October 1, 2024! 🌹🦇 I cannot wait to read more of this series!
I absolutely loved getting the chance to read this as an ARC reviewer. It was fast paced and just left you wanting more and more. I’m making this as spoiler free as possible so bear with me. I loved Lily and Angel and just getting to see the character development with the two of them. I loved that as morally grey as he was he still had vulnerabilities that we were allowed to see to better help us understand him. What first got me interested into this book was the vampires tho as I absolutely just love vampire books and what kept me reading was the imagery and the fact that it wasn’t your stereotypical vampire story. I cannot wait to read book 2. No seriously tho I read it in under 24 hours and now I really need book 2😩🖤
Angel and Lily. I am committed to knowing what happens to you both next. This quick read grabs you from the start and leaves you wondering what's next. There are parts of the story that requires using your imagination to fill in the blanks, but nothing monumental to the level of ruining the story. You'll definitely enjoy this read. I am hoping for the biggest plot twist in the second book. Although Lily's parents are not the worst, I sort of kind of what something to happen to them or have them go thru some supernatural events so they can finally get off their high horse and embrace Angel.
Curse of Wing and Darkness was a fun surprise!!! I loved this adventure! It was the Twilight I wish we had! Angel and his mouse are so much fun and spice!!!! The banter back and forth is so fun and watching Lily come into her own was so amazing. I suffer from severe anxiety and grew up having issues standing and speaking up for myself when I was younger. Watching how Angel made her stronger and healthier, while healing all her scars was so refreshing. The surprising twists and turns of this story kept me guessing and wanting more. I can't wait to see what happens in the next chapter of their journey!!!
🦇This was a fun read! Lily is naïve and prone to panic/anxiety attacks. The mental health representation was a main point of the book. Angel is a vampire, mysterious, and UBER protective ( #touchheranddie ). It was nice to see him not treat Lily like she was crazy whenever she panicked/froze. And who doesn’t love a nickname?! Mouse. 😍
🦇I want to know more about Angel and the other supernatural creatures (and how Lily plays into that as well)! I'm excited to see where the next story goes because of the craziness that happened at the end!
This was my first Amy Prokopis book and it will not be the last. I enjoyed every bit of this story. There's mental health rep, the FMC Lily's roommate is hilarious, the MMC Angel is sexy as hell, and the Lily's struggles are believable, relatable, and kept me invested throughout. The steamy scenes were great and the progression of Lily and Angel in their relationship flowed naturally. There are nods to Amy's previous books and the lore she's built in this rich magical world and the twists were so satisfying. This book had me read while walking, bumping into things, so it's safe to say I can't wait for book 2!!
In Curse of Wings and Darkness, the FMC is a cellist who meets a vampire. The similarity to Geneva Lee’s Filthy Rich Vampire ends there, however, as the author creates a world with much grittier undertones.
Lily is at a nightclub when Angel swoops to her rescue, and even though he gives her every reason to run away, she can’t resist the temptation to discover what drives this dangerous, dark winged man. He’s haunted by his ancient past and she’s trying to escape secrets of her own…
Spicy vampire fun with a promise of future intrigue. I give this 3.5/5!
I was hoping this would be more of a dark romance but it felt closer to a contemporary, "door left slightly ajar" romance that just happened to feature supernatural creatures.
I never really felt the suspense in dangerous situations after the first one. It all just felt like it was over way too quickly. If there was more detail spent on the sprinkles of a storyline and less put into the fluffy parts, I think I would've liked it more.
Overall, I think the story and writing was fine but it wasn't my favorite thing I've read.
Angel and Lily have the chemistry you want to see. It's cute and steamy in all the right places. It's low spice, but the spice is also placed well for being able to still learn the world building easily and understand the plot. Amy does a great job of fleshing out her characters, giving them backstorey that suits them, and giving them flaws that work to both their advantage and disadvantage. The mental health representation in this book is also a huge plus. Love to see it! Can wait to read the next one!
I was very captivated by this book. I didn't want to put it down. I love how Angel was there for Lily through everything and didn't want to leave her side at all. I need to know what happens next with his search to find a cure for being a vampire. I hate that he hates himself for being one. I wish he could come around to accepting it and just learn how to feed safely. I need to know more about Lily being a seer. It's like they were made for each other. I need to know more about these characters.

I absolutely love it! Such a hood story and I can’t wait to read more in book 2! The only reason I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because there were a few areas that I felt left me wondering about some characters and their well being or there were times that I just wanted a little bit more explanation. But other than that I did in fact love the story. It gave twilight vibes but darker and with more than just Vampires and wolves!! Definitely recommend this book!
I ended getting hooked with this story! I received an ARC and found myself reading it so fast. The plot was good and left on a “cliffhanger” that didn’t make me frustrated like most jam packed books in a series do😂 I don’t read a lot of vampire books really but liked hearing this book’s perspective on their tortured feelings about it.
I only made it to page 90 before I had to stop. Everything happens way too fast, and I never really connected with the characters. Because of that, some of the romantic moments felt super cringey to me — like the story was rushing into “deeply in love” territory without showing enough development first. Maybe I’m just not the target audience for this book, but it definitely wasn’t for me.
This book was nothing like I expected and I enjoyed reading it. I loved the mental health representation and how the MMC was so considerate when the FMC had panic attacks. It ended on a bit of a cliffhanger but I would call it more an unfinished storyline that continues in the next book.
Lily is a college student studying music who struggles with anxiety, Angel is a centuries old vampire. She should be afraid of him, he is a monster after all, but she sees good in him and quickly falls in love.
This story was amazing and leaves you wanting more. Angel is so protective over Lily. Encouraging her to stand up for herself and what she wants in life.
