With the pinnacle of his work as an enchanter and freedom fighter growing ever closer to fruition, he needs to find a solution that won't throw all of Paerús into magical bondage to Faerie King Tailor, preferably while saving himself along the way
If that wasn't enough, he needs to manage this while also making sure he is able to retain his job as a teacher. He's given his oath to nurture the next generation of witches and enchanters, and needs to make sure he's able to give them the best education he can.
And even if he manages to teach his students, save himself, and reveal the truth to the world, there's no way to know how the nobility is going to react...
Really satisfying end to a series that surprised me, pleasantly, from whoa to go. The magic systems stuff continued to be fun, Evan and Osheen a good central couple, and the support characters interesting as well. *Really* interesting politics, too. is not something you often see covered in fantasy, so seeing the start of that here is great (though I'd love to see a spinoff actually showing the work being done!). And really interestingly, the revolutionary politics *isn't* , which is fascinating. If the ending is a little pat and happy, well, there are enough unhappy queers in real life that I struggle to complain about that here.
Great stuff, especially for a debut series. I'll be keeping an eye out for other stuff set in this world.
I don't normally write reviews, but I feel like this series deserves more popularity than it's gotten so far. I binged them all over the past few days in preparation for this one being released. The series was very fun to read, and this one in particular is a great conclusion to the series as a whole. I hope Tobias Begley gets the chance to write some short stories including these characters at some point!
This was another good entry with plenty of enchanting and pleasing twists. I especially liked the teaching classes and it was great to see how far Evander had grown in strength and confidence. While there was the larger plot racing towards a conclusion, it was the small things like Evander helping students in terms of materials and opportunities not easily available for everybody that I enjoyed more. Looking forward to more stories set in this world.
One of the best progression fantasy series I've ever read. A masterwork culmination of Incredible worldbuilding, memorable characters, and one of the best and most fleshed out magic systems ever crafted. If you like gentle queer romance, inventive magic, and breakneck action, you owe it to yourself to read and finish The Journals of Evander Tailor.
I have loved this series and Evan's journey. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is the pacing could have had another edit and some pieces could have had another paragraph of explanation. Otherwise, a wonderful story.
I was so sorry to see this series end. The plot was so creative and interesting. The characters were fascinating. Each one grabbed your attention and you were part of this world. Really enjoyed it and looking forward to my next adventure in Mr Begley’s stories!
Unbelievable final book in this series. Sad to see it end. The book was well thought out and the climax was fantastic. Can't wait to read from Begley. He mentioned another series coming soon set within the same universe
This series was a lot of fun. The characters were interesting. I love when I get to read a new magic system that makes sense. Honestly I think everyone will enjoy this series.
On a side note I can't wait to recommend this series to my ACE college age kid. I get a bonus as a dad connecting with my kid.
Love the series, loved this book but hated some parts of the ending. Great world building and an interesting overarching storyline make this a stand-out series and I'm sad to see it end.
