This was a great read that included mystery, romance, and some laugh-out-loud moments. Poppy and Julian are lovable characters. Julian is a former Delta Force lieutenant who is now the CEO of his family's business. Poppy is new to the city, starting a new job, and at a crossroads in her life. We also get to meet Poppy's best friend Harper as well as Julian's brothers Kent and Theo. I enjoyed these supporting characters and hope to read more of their stories in the future.

The story was compelling that I couldn't put it down! I liked the author's writing style. It was easy to read and touched on your emotions. I liked the humor, banter, and slow build. The author did a great job in blending it so well. Let’s not forget the steamy encounters, there’s a slow buildup and it does not disappoint! 😮‍💨

It does end on a cliffhanger, and I look forward to reading the next installment to see how it all plays out! Do check the trigger warnings supplied by the author at the beginning of the book.

What to expect:
- Next door neighbors
- Workplace romance
- Billionaire romance
- Multiple POV
- Ex-Military
- He falls first
- Slow Burn
- Suspense
- Found Family

If these tropes intrigue you, then definitely add to your TBR!

Thank you for author A.G. Harris for providing an e-ARC. All opinions are my own.

I am so happy I was lucky to get an advance copy of this! Wow it really hooked me, the emotions were palpable, there was spice, instant connection with poppy and Julian, and poppy deserves a true connection. The is a lot to unpack in her life that she has gone through and I am still wanting and dying to know where this will all lead, and I only hope Julian will remain true and by her side. I loved Harper and Kent, they both brought humor and make me laugh literally! Dying for the next book as I must know what happens!

*Arc Review*

Poppy wants a fresh start. She wants to get away from all the loss, sadness and hurt she’s been experiencing and start living her life on her terms.

Julian is a military man through and through. After an incident which leads to him being discharged from Special Forces, he is now coming to grips with being a CEO. Something he never wanted to be.

With new jobs, new scenery, new lives and now new neighbours, both Poppy and Julian never imagined meeting each other. They fall hard and fast but they can’t escape the ghosts of their past.

There are a lot of storylines that build suspense and leave you wanting more. Being part one, the book really sets the scene and gives an insight into the characters, their motivations and behaviours.

The way the relationship between our main characters developed was a little too hard too fast for me but I’m curious to see how it progresses in future books. I particularly enjoyed the banter between Poppy and Harper, her best friend. Some things she said left me chuckling out loud. We all need a Harper in our lives! The book explores some sensitive themes, so do check the trigger warnings but the way the author handled them was well done.

Overall, it was a good read and I really enjoyed it but in some cases it did feel a little rushed. I’m looking forward to seeing how the story develops in book two.

Huge thanks to A.G. Harris for sharing the digital ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

This is the first book by A.G. Harris and to read it as an ARC was very special.
The characters were written very well and some of the the relationships are hilarious. The story is has intrigue and while the writing isn’t the best, no judgement, I still thoroughly enjoyed reading and would recommend a low spice book (hoping for more spice in the next book 👀)

“I repeated yesterday’s pattern for years, hoping that it would differ. Patterns don’t change unless you change them. So I did, or at least I tried to.”
“Tell me you’re not the villain in our story. Tell me you’re the good guy.”

Fast and easy to read, sweet billionaire romance. The plot kept me interested from beginning to end. I can’t wait to read what happens next.

A few times, I would have liked some parts to be a bit longer and not resolve quite as quickly. For example, the beginning of the relationship between Julian and Poppy felt a bit rushed.

Harper was a fun comedic relief, and I would love to see more of her in the future.

I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review. Receiving ARC didn’t affect my opinion of the book.

This was such a nice read! Following Poppy & Julian's story, it had me finishing this in less than 24 hours! Poppy, the good girl with a hidden past wanting a fresh start, with a sassy & protective best friend, meets ex Delta Force hunk turn CEO. I'm a sucker for love at first sight!

I wish some parts were longer, so there would be more drama! Felt like some parts were resolved too quickly and a good few chapters to bring in the action would have sealed the deal for me!

Overall, an easy, & well-paced read! i'm excited for more to see what happens next!

Many thanks to the author for allowing me a digital ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Don’t go in to this book looking for all our smut, it doesn’t happen until two thirds into the story but if you are looking for a romance with a little open door thrown in then this could be the one for you.

The story skirts around some sensitive topics with care, without being explicit or too graphic and the romance that builds between the 2 main characters, although slightly rushed occasionally (imo) is believable and well done. Even the secondary characters in this book and well rounded.

There was nothing ground breaking when it came to the reveals in this book but that didn’t stop them being enjoyable and as well as the romance there were laugh out loud, tender and OMG moments which all led to me looking forward to reading the second book

This was my first ARC read and I don't think it could have been better! I was hooked instantly and can't wait to dive into the second book in this series.
The chemistry between the characters had me laughing out loud at times, crying at other times and just enjoying every bit of this story. The 'voice' in this book is strong and makes it feel like you're right there experiencing everything the characters are.
Definitely recommend this one!

After a devastating loss and getting out of a bad relationship, Poppy wants a fresh start away from all the hurt in her life. She moves to Texas and starts a new job and new life.

Julian was discharged from the military after sustaining an injury and is now thrust into the family business as CEO of the company. He's not happy with this abrupt change in his life status and is starting his new position begrudgingly.

Poppy and Julian are both moving into the same condo complex and when they meet. They hit it off and with some encouragement from her outgoing and no-filter friend Harper and his playboy brother Kent, they decide to go out. This instant attraction happens on both sides and they quickly grow close.

Behind the scenes, there are some people trying to hurt Julian and his family and he doesn't want Poppy to get in the crossfire so they decide to keep their relationship on the down low. Insecurities with her old relationship resurface and Poppy must decide if Julian is truly the good guy and can he handle the dark secrets of her past?

This story had a lot of underlying plots with secrets and kept you wanting to learn more. First, there were some mysterious things happening with her ex boyfriend that you assume you know what happened and it's not exactly clear but I think it will be big once revealed! The plot of someone being after Julian started out good but the conclusion of it and how it wrapped up was very quick and clean and I wish there would have been more drama or confrontation and suspense associated with that.

The underlying love story was sweet, spicy and showcased how much Julian and Poppy really did like each other but it did feel rushed in the beginning. I wanted some more buildup especially with the reveal of them working together.

The cliffhanger ending left me with so many questions! Who is trying to get to Poppy? Is her brother going to come back? Will Julian understand when she finally reveals the truth of her ex to him (and us!) Need that next book ASAP and also more of Harper and Kent!

Huge thanks to A. G. Harris for sharing this book’s digital advanced review copy with me in exchange for an honest review.

⭐️ARC REVIEW⭐️
Poppy is a young woman who has experienced tragic loss after tragic loss. Upon receiving her inheritance, she decides she needs a fresh start away from the tragedy and an abusive ex. Poppy accepts a position in a new state and prepares to begin her life anew.

Julian is honorably discharged from the Special Forces after being injured in the line of duty, and reluctantly accepts the CEO position of his family’s company.
By chance, Julian and Poppy live in the same building. The attraction is almost instant but they both have their own share of trauma.
In a twist of fate, they learn they will be working together, which further complicates things. As the book progresses, Poppy and Julian try to explore their feelings for each other, but secrets from both their pasts continue to follow them and cast a heavy cloud.

The author did a wonderful job reeling me in. My heart really broke for Poppy. Her grief in the beginning is palpable. But I found myself getting irritated at the constant reminder of Poppy’s past. Anytime Poppy would start to experience something nice, here came an intrusive thought, or hints about her past. For almost 30 chapters it was like if something good happened, it was followed by a thought about her past. Like dang, can I enjoy some happiness with this girl for a solid chapter!? We want this girl to experience good things right!? Every other page felt like this give and take between happy moment and a negative thought.

The author continues to drop hints at secrets, but it felt less like “breadcrumbs” and more like dangling a carrot on a stick. You’re led on for most of the book with these hints. Then you get somewhat of a bombshell drop at the end…only to be left on a cliffhanger. So now I feel like I’ve been led around by my nose. All the hints throughout the book, only to get left with no real resolution; in what now feels like a ploy to get me to read book two.

Despite being frustrated with all the feet dragging and floundering, I will say a major highlight for me was Poppy’s bff, Harper. She was so protective of Poppy, and funny, and you could tell she wanted nothing but the best for Poppy. I hope there is a book coming for Harper because I honestly think I would enjoy that storyline; maybe even better than Poppy’s.

Just finished "Breaking Yesterday" and I've got some thoughts to share. Strap in for a 3.5 review - yes, you heard that right, 3.5 stars! ⭐⭐⭐✨

First off, let me tell you, this book has it all: a mystery that keeps you guessing, romance that makes your heart flutter, and characters that you can't help but love. Poppy and Julian are our main duo, and they're super likeable. Poppy's trying to find her independence out of the shadow of her past and Julian's charm is hard to resist. But, here's the thing - their romance? Total insta-love vibes 🥰. It's cute, but it felt a bit too quick for me.

The story kicks off with a bang and had me hooked right from the start. But then we hit the middle part and, honestly, I found myself drifting. 🤦‍♀️ The pace just slowed down a tad too much. Don't get me wrong, it's still good, but I was hoping for a bit more momentum to keep me glued to the pages.

Now, let's talk about the last 10% of the book. OMG, it was fire! 🔥🔥🔥 Everything came together in such an epic way and it set up the next book perfectly. I was on the edge of my seat and it totally reignited my excitement for the series.

Can we take a moment to appreciate the side characters? Harper and Kent totally stole the show for me. Harper is such a badass - seriously, she's better than the CIA at protecting her bestie. Goals, right? 💪 And the banter and chemistry between Harper and Kent? Top tier. I was shipping them so hard and honestly, I'd read a whole book just about them.

Poppy's journey of realising that she's not quite as free as she thought was pretty emotional. You really feel for her and root for her to break free of her past. It adds a nice layer of depth to her character.

In summary, "Breaking Yesterday" is a solid read with likeable characters and a plot that keeps you interested, despite the bit of a lag in the middle. If you're into mystery, romance, and some kickass side characters, give this one a go! Can't wait to see where Poppy, Julian, Harper and Kent take us next. 📖❤️

Breaking Yesterday
A.G. Harris

‘The hero has the masses for support. The hero isn’t alone in doing it all; they have sidekicks. The villain does it all by themselves; they don’t trust or welcome friends because everyone is seen as a potential enemy.’

This book blew me away with how captivating it was and the banter was insane. I loved the point that it ended on and I will be racing to read the next book because you can’t leave me like that. 😆

Get ready to experience all the spectrum of emotions in this book. It’s a steamy slow burn romance and filled to the brim with banter and innuendoes. Whilst touching on heartfelt and traumatic subjects. Everything is covered. Even the best friend with incredible brains and zero filter. Then there’s a billionaire boss with a war hero past and a woman running scared of her past, afraid to live and love in case tragedy intervenes.

“I’m out of my league with you. I wanted nice and normal.”
“I am nice and normal, but I’m also something else.”

Ok so living in Australia, pumpkin spice everything just isn’t a thing we do, but I’m convinced that come Sept / Oct whenever Starbucks adds them to the seasonal flavour menu I’m giving it a try. Because Poppy is down right obsessed and maybe it deserves the benefit of the doubt from me. 🤷🏻‍♀️

“Give me time to prove myself to you. I might be a CEO now, but my hearts still that of a soldier. I’ve spent my life slaying monsters, not turning into one, Poppy,”

The set up for the next book 😮‍💨 I’m so ready for the dick swinging to commence and justice to be delivered. 🥊 Book two; Claiming Tomorrow is released 23rd July 2024, both are available on KU.

“It’s impossible. Once you find a ten, that’s it; it’s a slow death.”

‘People don’t praise kings; they fear them because no honest king can keep his throne with merely the love of his people. It takes fear and control.’

I'm adding A.G. Harris to my favorite authors list...just sayin'

I read this book in one sitting....I couldn't help myself. I was just so engrossed in the story, right from the beginning and invested in Julian and Poppy, Kent, Harper, Theo...all of them. I had to know what was next, and then I was done... :(

Julian. The man checks all my boxes..... Ex- Military Alpha Protector - check. Billionaire CEO - check. Dirty talker - check. Sweet, patient and gentle - check. Gives Poppy an adorable nickname - check. Seriously, I fell in love with him myself!

Poppy. My heart is aching for her. She's trying to live some semblance of a life after dealing with so much tragedy and pain, and at the same time she is carrying a painful, deep secret that she can't let out. The emotional tole it takes on her, oh, it just broke my heart. I want her to let it out, scream it out and let it go and be happy!

This book has such great side characters too... Harper! Oh I want a Harper in my life...I love her and Kent. Theo....there is a story there. I can't wait to find out more about him...I find him so intriguing.

The writing was fantastic. It flowed so well that it kept me engaged page after page.

This is a slow burn (another box checked) that is paced just right and the connection between Julian & Poppy - **chef's kiss** I also loved that this story had more serious elements to it, as well as some intrigue....I have an inkling of what's going on but I can't wait for the next book to see if I'm right. That's right...this one ends on a CLIFFHANGER! Normally, I hate books with cliffhangers, but this one, I embraced it. I am so excited for the next book! I cannot wait!

Thank you A. G. for letting me read your fabulous story. Definitely one of my favorites!

Breaking Yesterday is a brand new series from AG Harris and is a little bit of a departure from her previous works. I was lucky enough to be a BETA reader for this manuscript and I have been privileged to see behind the scenes of editing and publishing a novel. I fell in love with these characters straight away and I am sure you will too!

Plot- Breaking Yesterday centres on the relationship between Poppy and Julian as they become neighbours and get to know each other whilst Julian is also finding himself after forced retirement from the armed services. Poppy is settling into a new city, new job and is somewhat at a similar cross roads in her life to Julian. We also get introduced to Poppy’s best friend Harper and Julian’s brothers Kent and Theo. The way Harris reveals clues about these other characters as we go along adds great detail to the plot. This is definitely my favourite book I have read by AG Harris and I highly recommend it! (However, I warn you that the book ends on a terrible cliff hanger and you will be desperate for book two to hear the ending).

Characters- Harris’ previous novels have explored villains and how they can be redeemable or at least understandable. Breaking Yesterday however is all about the worthy hero Julian. He is endlessly patient, kind, resilient and fights for Poppy to give a relationship with him a chance. There is still this thread of evil we know from Harris’ style as Poppy honestly views herself as a villain. She blames herself for something that happens at the start of the book but I don’t see her like that at all. I think both Poppy and Julian are the heroes of this story and if this is how Harris writes heroes, she NEEDS to give us more.

Trigger warnings:

Death of a sibling

I knew I would like this book but I didn’t know that I would LOVE it.
This book deals with some serious topics but it’s an incredible story about moving on and overcoming fears and obstacles that might be in your way. Trying to break those cycles that you might be repeating over and over again.
Poppy is my absolute favorite. I loved her resilience. Watching her realize that hanging on to her past and those who were detrimental to her and taking those steps to move on with life was something I think many can relate to and also learn from .Her love of pumpkin spice is NEXT LEVEL and the situation with the body wash it created was just pure gold. I could not stop laughing.
Speaking of laughing Harper had me full on cackling. I am obsessed with her and her character and can relate. I am that friend. I will embarrass the 💩 out of you and not even break a sweat doing it. 🤗 Harper and Kent, I NEED more and am so excited to get more in Claiming Tomorrow. (Available now on KU)
Julian, dude is just a walking green flag. I didn’t love the secrecy bit at first, that sort of thing always gives me the ick but having his POV and knowing how genuine he was about having feelings for Poppy made that a lot easier to stomach. The way that man was so reassuring to her, and SAW her was just perfection. The things he says 🫠🫠
Seriously this book is all the things. It’s emotional, hilarious, romantic and even has some suspense in there. I would highly recommend!

“That’s how love should be. Unforced. Gentle yet passionate, confusing yet so simple.”

This book was everything you could want in a romance novel. Poppy and Julian are the most lovable characters and I was instantly engaged in their story and did not want to put it down.

Poppy has a very emotional and traumatic backstory. She has been holding on to secrets, guilt and has experienced multiple losses. When she tries to start fresh and get away, she meets her perfect, new next door neighbor, Julian. Their connection was almost instant, there was definitely
no slow burn in their scenario, but it worked perfectly for their story.

We also meet Harper (Poppy’s best friend) and Kent (Julian’s brother) and I absolutely hope to see more of them in the future. They are the parts of story that will have you laughing out loud. While they may provide comedic relief, they are also fierce protectors of those they love.

I will say, I was on the EDGE of my seat when I was around 92% through the book. I kept waiting and waiting for the other shoe to drop concerning Poppy’s past. What happened was the absolute perfect set up for book two which I immediately started because I had to know what happened next.

I would absolutely recommend this book, even to someone who is not a romance reader because I feel like there is so much more to this story than romance. The spice was not overdone, it was actually much lighter than I anticipated.

I am thankful to have received an advanced reader’s copy of this book in exchange for my honest review!

This is book 1 ! So realize you get left on a cliffhanger, and as we all know I hate cliffhangers but of course I’m drawn to them like a moth to a flame. I can’t explain how on the end of my seat I was for the last 5 chapters of this book- knowing I NEEDED the info coming but also knowing it was enough left to give me the ending I so desperately need!

This story is about Julian and Poppy. Two people who have just the cutest meet cute! Sexy new neighbors moving in and just had to make nice, Incase you ever need to borrow a cup of sugar 😉

Poppy has a dark past, that she struggles to leave behind even though part of her is desperate to do as such. You start the book with Poppy attending her older brothers funeral. Her past is so sad and riddled with destruction, that she feels she is the cause of it all. But what she fails to see is the parasite that has locked onto her and is sucking her bone dry.

Julian is a retired special forces op and damn is he sexy and cute enough to eat! He has come back to his families business and is trying to navigate his ‘new life’. Being CEO of a multi billion dollar company comes with its perks and fair share of targets on your back. Julian has to navigate this new level of war fare on a mew battleground.

The side character of Harper and Kent too are just the perfect addition to this book!! I really really hope them two get their own story because I NEED to have more of them twos fire and spark! 🧨

Breaking Yesterday surpassed all my expectations. I'll admit that a romance novel wouldn't be my first choice when looking for a new read, but when I caught one of the author's Instagram videos, her wholesomeness and sincerity shone out, so I decided to check out her work.

Poppy's emotive story immediately drew me in, and once I'd started reading, I found it impossible to put Breaking Yesterday down. There's a perfect balance of humour to lighten the darker moments, and the romance was portrayed without a suggestion of cringiness; not once did I roll my eyes! The spiciness was not overdone, and the attention to detail in every aspect of the author's writing was fantastic.

There is so much emotion in this book, and you can't help but be pulled along for the ride. You'll laugh along with the jokes and banter, your heart will melt at the romance, and there'll also be anger, shock and upset. Some things I predicted, but that isn't important, as there were still some surprises. What does matter is that I didn't want the book to end. When I reached the last page, I felt bereft, and I'm desperate to know what happens next. Luckily, the next book in the series is being released very soon!

If you enjoy romance novels, or even if you don't, I highly recommend enjoy Breaking Yesterday; I think you'd love it.

I received an ARC of this book, my first from AG Harris, and I loved it. I didn’t want to put it down! While there is intense sadness and trauma that is faced by our FMC Poppy, once’s that are so hard to face individually but several? Man. She definitely has been through it but is lucky to have a friend, albeit a crazy and wild one, like Harper! Harper herself is such a fun mix of wild girl and crazy intelligent woman, and her hacking skills definitely come to good use! Then we have our hot Texas men, starting with the hilarious playboy with a hidden serious side (and heart?) Kent—can’t wait to see more of the antics between Harper and Kent, that’s for sure! But Julian, oh sweet mother of Mary, Julian—he’s had his share of trauma and he’s also has the heart and the military ops training to boot! I love the dynamics and insta chemistry Poppy and Julian have, but also the relationship that grows at their own pace—yes, one filled with that steamy tension that’s so yummy to read, but also one filled with understanding and healing. We get so many good things too—forced proximity, boss/subordinate, secret relationship, and more and I love it! There is also the twists and turns, past and hidden dangers, major power players and threats, compounded by a psycho ex—this one packed a punch and I am hooked! Definitely can’t wait for the next book!

1. 🌶️

Taking another detour outside of my fantasy safe zone. This book has a ton of tropes I'm interested in, so I decided to give it go!

Poppy is our FMC who has an epicly tragic past, that she is trying to escape by moving to a new state, getting a new job, and meeting someone new.

Julian is our MMC who also has some bumps in his past, but his job in the military is up and it's his time to become a civilian and work with his family.

How these two meet I thought was pretty cute. For me the side characters really made this book. Kent and Harper's humor kept making me giggle in what is actually a very deep and potentially dark, for some, story. The topics discussed and hinted at in this book can get pretty heavy and can also be TWs for some. Please pay attention to the TWs for your mental health. Some TWs that occur but are not limited to:

- Death of a family member (s)
- Hints at SA
- PA and MA, gaslighting
- Stalking
- Günshöts wound

Most of the POVs are from poppy, but I found myself wanting Julian's view way more 😂 there were also one or two chapters from Harper's POV. I enjoy books that really give you the all the views!! It's mainly a Dual POV though.

I dove straight into Claiming Tomorrow, so expect that review soon.

For those of you that like Pumpkin Spiced things, our girl poppy is the PS queen!!

🌶️.5 (it was a slow burn but the chemistry was 🔥 and I have a feeling the second book will have more spice)

I was so pleasantly surprised by this book!! My favorite part of Instagram is finding new to me authors that I may have never heard of just a few months ago. I went into this book not knowing this author and honestly kind of forgetting the plot.

Within the first chapter I knew I was in for a great read. I really enjoyed this book! The plot was amazing and kept you enthralled the entire time. I was laughing out loud at the characters and so invested in them.

The book starts introducing you to the FMC, Poppy. She has had a devastating few years with multiple deaths in her family and a bad relationship that has made her scared and ready for new beginnings. She moves to Texas for a new beginning and a new job and stumbles upon Julian. Julian is the MMC whose military career ended due to an injury. He also happens to be a Billionaire. He also is kind, loyal and just everything you want in a MMC.

I don’t want to give too much of the plot away but just urge you to give this one a try!! I can’t flipping wait for the next one!!

Poppy had the best older brothers. Two men who took the rolls of parents after theirs suddenly died. Peter took that roll very seriously, looking out for Poppy in everything she did... including who she dated.
But one night changes everything and haunts both Poppy and Henry for years. Guilt, fear, and loneliness is hard on one's heart.

Years after abuse from her "boyfriend" Poppy finally takes her life back into her own hands and runs. She leaves the front desk at her family's company, where she wouldn't have to be tortured but her brother's silence anymore. Texas is her new start... it's also where she meets Julian.

This series touches on a lot of emotional topics- death, r@pe, stalking, and physical and mental abuse.

I really enjoyed the first book- the characters were well built while still holding the suspense of what exactly happened in Poppy's past. And while I enjoyed book two - it gave answers and had a bit of that on the edge thrill - I felt like it did have a little too much fluff and repetition.

Besides how much I adored Poppy and Julian's relationship, I freaking loved Harper and Kent's. These two are explosive, and I do wish we had more of them.

4.5 stars! What a great story. I already can't wait for book two! I thought the characters were really nicely written, and the dialogue and interactions felt natural. I was unsure of Harper at first, but by the end of the book, I was a huge fan, and I'd love to see her find her own slice of happiness.

The books deals with some difficult subjects such as sexual assault, abuse, grief and loss, and I thought these were handled really well by the author.

The romance was quickly developed, but the spice was a slow burn, and I liked this. I am not a fan of books where the characters go all around the houses before getting together. I liked that Poppy and Julian could admit their mutual attraction from the outset.

I thought it was a nicely paced story, and I enjoyed the plot. The book ends on a cliffhanger, so it will be interesting to see where book two takes us. I will definitely be keeping up with the series as I feel invested in the characters.

With thanks to the author for being kind enough to send me an ARC of the book. This is my honest opinion, which I'm leaving voluntarily.

This slow burn romance has some dark trauma and twists that leave you breathless but also A.G has intertwined this incredible story with humour, chemistry and feeling that will pull every emotion from you without even trying.

Poppy has delt with alot of grief and trauma she bottles, living in fear her past will catch her for years until she begins trying to get a fresh start and start living again. She takes her best friends suggestions and makes Big changes, which is how she meets her new neighbour Julian.

Julian is ex delta force due to an injury that forces him to take his role within the family business. Hes sworn of love and relationships because of his dangerous life, his own trauma and heartbreaking past until he see's Poppy.

They both are keeping secrets, but how long will that last?

This ends on the edge and makes you tap to the next page that sadly does not exist.

I can not wait for book 2!!!
Also praying for a spin off with kent and harper because that chemistry!!

ARC Review ✨

This was my first book from A G Harris and I’m so annoyed I haven’t read her work before!! I absolutely devoured this book in less than 24 hours, I was completely drawn in by her style of writing. It’s so easy to follow and I honestly just fell in love with all the of the characters and was well and truly rooting for them.

This follows the main story of Poppy and Julian and their slow burn romance whilst also following Harper and Kent; Poppy’s best friend and Julian’s brother. I thought it was really refreshing to have the elements of a second side plot running through and enjoyed having some of Harper’s POV too!

This is the epitome of a slow burn romance and was just done so perfectly. The chemistry and tension between all of the characters was palpable and honestly the humour had me giggling throughout. With that being said this does follow some harder topics and sad elements but the balance was done beautifully.

I’m just so annoyed I have to wait even 3ish weeks for the next book! 💕

Slow Burn

Protective MMC
Ex-Military
Suspense

This book has it all and I was hooked in the first chapter. Harris takes you on an emotional journey where the FMC Poppy and the MMC Julian have to heal their past trauma. Because of her trauma Poppy has become very insecure, fearful and distrusts everyone. Julian is the protective, possessive in a good way, ex-military neighbor that wants to make her forget all that broker her. Poppy's best friend Harper is her ride or die through it all. I fell in love with the character Harper, she is a strong, confident, crazy smart, beautiful female that we all need as a best friend. Another side character is Julian's brother Kent which is the male version of Harper. I loved the banter between all the characters but especially Harper and Kents relationship. I look forward to seeing how the characters develop in the next book. Be warned this book does end on a cliffhanger!

Thank you, A.G. Harris, for the advanced copy!

🌶️I really enjoyed this book. And I really enjoyed that it was left on such a cliffhanger because I was not ready for Julian and Poppy's story to be over. I was also really excited when the author added in Harper and Kent more towards the end to open up their stories as well. Poppy has suffered a lot of death and heartbreak in her past and she just needs a fresh start. She holds on to so much guilt and I am hoping in the next book, she is able to make amends or really heal from the past. However, when you know her ex could return at any moment...as the reader you are sitting in suspense the entire time wondering when he is going to make his debut.

The author was NOT kidding in her trigger warnings that the book may ruin pumpkin spice for you with the nicknames that come along through the story. It had a lot of humor in it as well as suspense, thick/heavy topics of abuse, etc. I giggled and I cringed throughout the book. Also, if you have any triggers with abusive relationships and toxic relationships, you may want to go in knowing that prior.

This story is easily a 5 star with a cliffhanger that had me craving the second book!

The author opens up with Poppy and explanations of her past hurts and trauma. Loosing her parents and then losing her big brother and navigating a abusive relationship is enough to make anyone break. Enter Harper, her bestfriend, her soul sister, the queen of banter and witty outlandish comments. She is her rock, but she too has secrets. She helps Poppy make some large life changes including moving to Texas. She had a brand new job as a secretary for a large company, and a sexy new neighbor that seems safe.

Julian is in the Navy well ex-navy, hes been shot and now will fall into the CEO position at his families company Sterling Defense. But there's a surprise waiting for Julian his new neighbor is beautiful, shy, and happens to faint into his arms quite literally.

But something from Poppy's past has come back to haunt her or has it always been there...
